  • Prostate inflammation

Prostatitis is a fairly widespread disease among men (women are not affected by this disease, since the prostate gland is an organ exclusively of the male genitourinary system). Only one out of five representatives of the stronger sex never encounters such a problem in their lives.

Prostatitis is a disease of the male genitourinary system, the obligatory attribute of which is an inflammatory process localized in the prostate gland.

Prostatitis today is so widespread that with almost one hundred percent certainty every man who has crossed the threshold of 45 years can be considered sick to one degree or another.

Why do problems with men's health become more active at this age?

In fact, it all starts much earlier, the modern rhythm of life, oversaturated with stress, an inactive lifestyle, working in an office in front of a computer, poor nutrition, systematic alcohol consumption and sexual intercourse with frequently changing partners without the use of contraception - all these are the very factors , the presence of which gradually leads to inflammation of the prostate.

The symptoms of prostatitis that a man first notices are usually the following:

  • At the beginning of the disease, when the prostate has just begun to increase in volume, it only slightly squeezes the ureter, which surrounds it like a ring on a finger. Thus, one of the first symptoms of prostatitis will be considered a slight narrowing of the ureter, and, consequently, some obstruction of the passage of urine - difficulty urinating.
  • The resulting problem is frequent urination. At first, this manifestation does not cause concern; a man who has never woken up at night before may get up to empty his bladder once or twice at night and chalk it up to an extra cup of tea at dinner. But, over time, the intervals between the urge to urinate will be significantly reduced.
  • The presence of pain in the lower abdomen is also one of the first symptoms of prostatitis. They can have different sensations: pulling, pressing, bursting, they usually bother you at the end of the day or after any strength loads.
  • Minor erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, of course, cause both the man and his partner some anxiety, but this is also often attributed to fatigue and stress.

note

Such, seemingly insignificant, disorders of the male genitourinary system, without proper attention, both from the patient and the doctor, will certainly result in big problems, whose name is chronic prostatitis.

Inflammation of the prostate gland can occur either in an acute, bacterial form, or, in the case of an advanced disease, in its complicated, chronic form.

Symptoms of prostatitis in the acute phase of the bacterial form:

  • High body temperature, staying around 39 degrees for a long time.
  • Chills.
  • General weakness, body aches, painful condition.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, in particularly difficult cases, leading to frequent vomiting.
  • Severe pain in the perineum, lower abdomen, and also periodically in the lower back and testicles. Often the pain intensifies at the time of bowel movement, and mucous discharge from the urethra may also appear during defecation.
  • During a rectal digital examination, the doctor may detect an increase in the volume of the prostate gland, a change in its structure - various formations and scars are often palpable.
  • Frequent, difficult, painful urination. Due to the fact that the inflamed prostate pinches the urethra too much, a man has to strain to start urinating; for the same reason, in some cases the bladder does not empty completely, which does not bring proper relief after visiting the toilet.
  • Sharp pain during ejaculation.

If prostatitis is not treated at this stage, it is guaranteed to develop into a chronic stage.

Chronic prostatitis is divided into three main types:

  • Chronic infectious prostatitis.
  • Chronic non-infectious prostatitis.
  • Chronic asymptomatic prostatitis.

There are no symptoms of prostatitis in its asymptomatic form, as is already clear from the name, the patient does not complain about anything, and leads absolutely the same lifestyle as usual.
It is discovered in most cases by chance, when taking blood tests and finding an increased number of leukocytes or bacteria in it, or when taking biopsy material from the prostate.

In some cases, inflammation of the prostate is detected during open surgical interventions in the prostate gland, or during surgery on the prostate gland itself.

Symptoms of prostatitis in its chronic non-bacterial form:

  • Abacterial prostatitis has another name, namely “chronic pelvic pain syndrome.” The soreness is constant, monotonous, but varies both up and down. The localization of pain is variable, it can be the prostate itself, the perineum, pain in the tailbone, testicles, or male genital organ. During bowel movements, pain is concentrated in the anus and rectum. An increase in pain intensity occurs even with minor exertion.
  • Sexual desire disorders , decreased libido, unstable erection that periodically disappears during the process of copulation, as well as early ejaculation. In order to prevent the situation from worsening, it is recommended to immediately consult a doctor, since with timely treatment there is a high probability of complete restoration of the man’s sexual viability.
  • Urinary dysfunction . The urge to empty the bladder is quite frequent, but it is not always possible to completely empty it - you have to make an effort. The stream of urine becomes much thinner, this is due to the presence of initial sclerosing changes in the ureter in the area of the prostate gland.
  • Depression, mild or severe depression , apathy, insomnia, or, conversely, drowsiness, as well as attacks of anger are possible manifestations of psychological disorders in men suffering from prostatitis.

Symptoms of prostatitis in its chronic infectious form:

  • The pain syndrome in this case depends entirely on the degree of exacerbation of the disease at a particular moment. At the peak concentration of bacteria, the pain is dull, drawing, continuous, localized in the groin area, scrotum, lower abdomen, intensified in a sitting position (especially when standing on a hard surface), during urination, defecation and ejaculation.
  • During remission, during the period of weakening or complete disappearance of other symptoms of prostatitis in its chronic bacterial form, impaired urination , or rather tension when trying to empty the bladder and the inability to do this completely, is the only symptom that remains with a man with this disease. At the moment of exacerbation, a man is often completely deprived of the ability to urinate, since the inflamed prostate simply blocks the passage of urine through the urethra, or urine flows out literally drop by drop.
  • Distension and pain in the bladder also often accompany this disease in the acute phase. Stagnation of urine favors the development of infections and the formation of salt microcrystals that injure the mucous wall of the bladder. When urinating, white threads and flakes are observed in the urine.
  • Often there is a prolonged erection during sleep , but at the time of intercourse it often weakens so much that it is not possible to complete sexual intercourse. If this does happen, then sharp pain may be observed during or immediately after the onset of orgasm, and blood impurities may be noticed in the ejaculate.
  • Against the background of all these symptoms, especially during an exacerbation, men are often susceptible to psycho-emotional disorders of varying degrees of severity . In most cases, they are depressed, apathetic, unsure of themselves, their thoughts are occupied with the complexity of treatment and fatigue from constant pain. At the same time, increased excitability and even aggressiveness are noted when discussing topics related to the patient’s health condition.
  • Patients experience a complete picture of general intoxication : increased fatigue, weakness, headaches, decreased immunity, patients often refuse to eat and constantly want to sit down or lie down.

With clinical exacerbation of prostatitis, there may be cases of an acute reaction to the inflammatory process in the prostate gland, without an accurate diagnosis, as well as proper, adequate and timely treatment, leading to complications such as blood poisoning and even local areas of suppuration in the body of the prostate.

That is why, at the first signs of illness, it is recommended to immediately contact a urologist, and not to independently prescribe all kinds of traditional medicine, suppositories, tablets and other drugs, after reading reviews on the Internet. Treatment at home is possible only after consultation with a specialist, because the cost is your health.

Causes of the disease

The development of prostatitis is caused by infection. Inflammation of the prostate gland can be caused by Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli and other microorganisms that are always present in the human body. However, as long as the immune system is functioning properly, they do not pose a danger. But as soon as the body’s defenses decrease, their number begins to increase greatly, which leads to the development of inflammation.

The main causes of prostatitis in men.

Other factors can also provoke the development of the disease:

  1. Urogenital infections, including those that are sexually transmitted (chlamydia, trichomoniasis, etc.). This is due to the fact that the prostate gland interacts with other organs of the genitourinary system.
  2. Stagnation of blood. In men whose lifestyle can be called sedentary, stagnation may occur in the pelvic area, which is a provoking factor for the development of pathogens. Subsequently, they can penetrate the man’s prostate and lead to its inflammation.
  1. Frequent constipation. The prostate comes close to the intestines. If stagnant processes occur, vascular permeability and general blood flow are disrupted. With constipation, feces remain in the rectum for a long time, so all the released toxins and breakdown products can enter the blood. This often provokes an inflammatory process.
  1. Stagnation of seminal fluid. Lack of sex can lead to stagnation of blood in the pelvic area. This leads to the death of sperm and a chronic inflammatory process.
  2. The presence of any chronic diseases in a man, because even caries can provoke inflammation in the prostate.

Dermatovenerologist Ekaterina Makarova tells more about the reasons:

Main signs and symptoms

Prostatitis is a disease that is easier to prevent than to cure. There are several options for its classification, but among them it is worth highlighting three main forms of the disease: acute, chronic and congestive. Based on the symptoms of the types of disease described below, the doctor diagnoses the patient with one of the existing forms of the disease.

For acute prostatitis

The disease often develops suddenly, as an acute inflammation with symptoms characteristic of this disease. In the presence of this form of prostatitis, a man’s temperature rises to 38-39 degrees, cutting pain appears in the groin, in the anal area, behind the pubis. The processes of defecation and urination are invariably accompanied by acute pain.

In chronic form

Symptoms of chronic prostatitis and its treatment in men are diagnosed more often than the acute form of the disease. At first, the disease practically does not bother the person. The symptoms, although similar to those of acute prostatitis, appear to a minimal extent. Body temperature can only occasionally rise to 37 degrees, and sometimes there is discomfort in the groin area and during urination. One of the characteristic symptoms of the chronic form is characteristic discharge from the urethra.

Prostatitis often develops as a complication of any infectious disease that is sexually transmitted, for example, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, ureaplamoz. During the illness, only minor symptoms appear: discomfort during urination becomes more pronounced, pain in the perineum occurs more often, and fluid is released from the urethra during defecation. Often the signs are so mild that the man does not even notice them.

After a certain time, the patient experiences problems with erectile function. Doctors attribute this to the transition of inflammation to the nerves passing through the prostate gland, which are responsible for erection. Chronic disease negatively affects a man’s general well-being and mood. Uncharacteristic irritability and dissatisfaction often appear.

When stagnant

This form of the disease is characteristic of men who lead a passive lifestyle and do not have regular sexual intercourse. Congestive prostatitis, as a rule, affects mature representatives of the stronger sex, but it also occurs in young people. The problem may occur against the background of chronic prostatitis, but its occurrence is due to other reasons. The main symptom of congestive disease is dysfunction of the genitourinary system.

The onset of prostatitis is characterized by inflammation of the excretory tract and detachment of the epithelium, which causes pain during urination. However, even minor complications when going to the toilet for a man should be a reason to visit a urologist. Severe cases of congestive prostatitis are fraught with complete cessation of the functioning of the urethra.

The second characteristic symptom of the disease is gradual erectile dysfunction. In men, with the development of congestive prostatitis, erectile function decreases and orgasm dulls. Over time, sexual dysfunction begins to develop very quickly. In addition, congestive prostatitis is often characterized by a characteristic burning sensation in the perineum or in the urethra of men. Symptoms also include itching in the groin area, increased body temperature, and signs of intoxication.

Types of prostatitis

Inflammation of the prostate gland is usually divided into 4 categories:

  • Spicy.
  • Chronic.
  • Asymptomatic chronic.
  • Chronic prostatitis of bacterial origin.

The acute form is diagnosed quite rarely and is associated with a bacterial infection, which is always severe. The patient experiences acute pain, body temperature rises, and general weakness of the body occurs. Visual examination shows an increase in the size of the prostate. This type of disease requires urgent treatment, as it can cause various complications.

The chronic type of the disease is associated with constant pain that bothers a person for more than 3 months in a row. A urine test in this case will show the presence of pathogens.

The asymptomatic type of prostatitis has practically no characteristic signs and symptoms. It can be detected during a regular medical examination or when visiting a doctor about another disease.

Chronic prostatitis of a bacterial nature is most often associated with the active development of Escherichia coli. This can be facilitated by a decrease in the body’s defenses, operations of the pelvic organs, and the presence of a source of infection. This type of disease is characterized by a sluggish course, and its symptoms are similar to the manifestation of an acute form of inflammation.

A tasty cure for prostatitis is honey sbiten.
Judging by the reviews, honey whipping is a very convenient and pleasant remedy for consumption, in addition to its effectiveness in treating prostatitis and strengthening the immune system.

General symptoms of the disease

The first signs of prostatitis in men may be as follows:

  1. Decreased libido can be called the first symptom indicating the presence of inflammation in the prostate gland. A healthy man should have an erection every morning. Prostatitis may manifest itself in that it occurs irregularly or is completely absent. In this case, a man may notice that the penis is not able to become hard enough for sexual intercourse. The seminal fluid becomes thin and cloudy.
  2. Urge to urinate at night. A healthy man will not wake up at night to go to the toilet. The patient may be bothered by a feeling of incomplete emptying. This is how the disease can manifest itself at the initial stage.
  3. Pain experienced by approximately half of all patients with prostatitis. They are aching in nature and concentrated in the pelvic area. Pain may occur during urination or ejaculation. Any discomfort that a man experiences in this area is a reason to visit a doctor.

These are only the first symptoms of prostatitis, which are characteristic of each type of disease.

Other symptoms include:

  • Unpleasant sensations during bowel movements.
  • A burning sensation in the perineum and urethra.
  • Fast fatiguability.
  • Psychological depression and depression.
  • Mucus threads can be seen in the urine.

These symptoms are secondary and depend on the type and degree of prostatitis, which can have a variable clinical picture.

Treatment of prostatitis with oils

Various essential oils can be used to treat prostatitis. Methods of their use are external rubbing, oral administration and microenemas.

You can treat prostatitis with essential oils

  • Essential oils, which have antibacterial, antispasmodic, soothing and stimulating effects, penetrate the human circulatory system and have an effect on internal organs, including the prostate
  • For example, grapefruit seed oil has antibacterial and antiviral effects. It can be used by diluting 3 – 5 drops of extract in a glass of warm water. You need to drink it twice a day before meals
  • Tea tree oil will also have a bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effect, and will also have an anti-allergic effect. It is taken 1 drop per tablespoon of milk or bread crumb after meals. Course of treatment – 3 weeks

IMPORTANT: Tea tree oil may be characterized by individual intolerance

Juniper extract will help relieve inflammation and swelling of the organ. Take a teaspoon three times a day for 3 weeks. The same juniper oil, or tea tree oil, as well as eucalyptus and thyme oils, are also used externally. For example, you can organize sitz baths.

RECIPE: Dilute 5 drops of oil in water at a temperature of 37 - 38 degrees for a bath. You can also add sea salt to the water. Time spent in the bath is 10 – 15 minutes. Number of procedures – 10 – 12. Special creams are prepared based on essential oils, which can be rubbed into the pelvic area or used as an additive to massage.

Signs of acute prostatitis

Acute inflammation of the prostate gland has characteristic signs of intoxication:

  1. Heat.
  2. Feeling chilly.
  3. Headache and joint pain.
  4. Lack of appetite.
  5. Sleep disturbance.
  6. Increased sweating.
  7. Fever.

The development of acute inflammation can be triggered by viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms. Such pathogens can be present in every organism. With proper functioning of the immune system, all pathogens are suppressed by the immune system. But in cases where this protection is reduced, the infection begins to actively develop, which ultimately leads to inflammation.

The danger of an acute form of the disease often lies in the development of infertility, impotence and can over time develop into a chronic form of prostatitis, leading to inflammation of the testicles and prostate abscess.

Any prostatitis in men can cause the formation of a benign tumor (adenoma) and a malignant prostate tumor (carcinoma). Therefore, it is so important to see a doctor for help if you notice at least one of the symptoms of prostatitis.

Read a detailed article about the signs of prostate adenoma.

Doctor of the highest category, urologist-andrologist Alexey Kornienko tells more about the acute form of the disease:

Every urologist knows how to determine prostatitis. To do this, he will conduct a rectal examination, send the patient for an ultrasound, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, and take blood and urine tests.

To make a diagnosis, the doctor will only need a rectal examination. Tests and other examinations are needed to determine what caused prostatitis in a man. Subsequently, this will help determine how to treat prostate inflammation in a particular patient. Each type of disease requires specific therapy. For example, in the case of an acute process, some physiotherapy procedures are prohibited.

Causes of prostatitis

The most common cause of prostate pathologies are bacterial infections that penetrate the prostate through ascending and descending routes. Ascending infection is more common in young men. In this case, virulent bacteria rise to the prostate gland from the external opening of the urethra. Infection through a descending route (microbes enter the gland through urine) occurs mainly in people with weakened immune systems and those suffering from chronic diseases.

Hypothermia, a weakened immune system, impaired blood supply, irregular sexual activity, and chronic injuries to the prostate gland can also be a catalyst.

Weakening of the immune system

A weakened immune system can be caused by frequent stress, poor or insufficient nutrition, alcohol abuse, smoking, overwork, etc. With a weakened immune system, the body is very sensitive to infections, leading to prostatitis.

Circulatory disorders

Poor blood supply occurs as a result of a sedentary lifestyle. Constant disruption of motor activity provokes disruption of blood circulation in the pelvic organs. As a result, oxygen starvation of the prostate gland occurs.

Irregular sexual activity

Excessive sexual activity, as well as prolonged sexual abstinence, contribute to the appearance of prostatitis. In men who have an overly active sex life, there is an imbalance of hormones, nervous exhaustion, disruption of the endocrine glands and a gradual decline in potency.

Chronic prostate injuries

Frequent injury to the soft tissue of the prostate can lead to the development of chronic prostatitis. This is more often observed among vehicle drivers. In this case, the cause of the development of the disease is constant vibration, shaking and excessive stress on the muscles of the genitourinary diaphragm.

Symptoms of bacterial prostatitis

The cause of the development of this type of prostate inflammation is pathogenic bacteria. The symptoms of the disease in this case will be identical to those that a man notes in the case of acute prostatitis. This is due to the fact that the bacterial type of inflammation is often the cause of the disease becoming chronic, which has periods of exacerbation.

Treatment in this case should be comprehensive. It will consist of prescribing antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs, prostate massage, physiotherapy and the use of traditional medicine.

Due to the fact that against the background of any previous infection (tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, osteomyelitis, etc.) the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate is possible, the patient after recovery is recommended to visit a urologist and undergo the necessary examination, which will make it possible to determine the disease at the initial stage. stage.

For prostatitis caused by bacteria, the main treatment is antibiotic therapy. This treatment makes it possible not only to quickly get rid of the pathogen, but also to prevent the development of complications. At the same time, the most important thing is to consult a doctor in a timely manner, because neglect of one’s health is the main reason for the development of a chronic disease.

It is very important to continue treatment even after the symptoms of prostate inflammation disappear. Indeed, in 90% of cases of chronic prostatitis, the cause lies precisely in an untreated disease.

Herbs for prostatitis are the most effective

Medicinal herbs are an effective, inexpensive, affordable means of treating many diseases. For prostatitis, the goal of treatment is to relieve the inflammatory process and prevent its recurrence.

It is also necessary to reduce pain and other discomfort, improve the secretory function of the prostate, and normalize blood circulation. It is also important to strengthen a man’s nervous system and his psychological state. The following medicinal herbs help with this purpose to one degree or another:

  • calamus (rhizomes)
  • St. John's wort
  • ginseng
  • peony
  • nettle
  • plantain
  • burdock (roots)
  • licorice
  • wintergreen
  • aspen
  • celandine

Herbs for prostatitis are very effective.
You can prepare one of these elements according to the instructions on the pharmacy package. RECIPE: You can prepare a herbal mixture that will include: cornflower flowers, cinquefoil root, hazel leaf. 100 g of each raw material are mixed together. Then pour 3 tablespoons of the mixture into a thermos with 3 cups of boiling water overnight and let it brew until the morning. Strain the infusion and drink 1 glass before meals 3 times a day.

Symptoms of chronic prostatitis

Chronic or abacterial prostatitis, as it is also called, is not associated with bacteria. Its main causes are stagnant processes in the pelvis (stagnation of blood, seminal fluid) or a deficiency of zinc in the male body. This element, important for men's health, normalizes the production of sex hormones, improves potency and reproductive function, and protects the prostate from diseases.

In addition to the general symptoms of prostatitis, its abacterial form has aching pain in the lower abdomen, groin or perineum. Often such sensations spread to the back and tailbone. The pain may bother the patient for a long time.

Therapy prescribed by the attending physician will consist of the use of anti-inflammatory and hormonal agents, alpha-blockers and herbal medicines. Additionally, prostate massage and various physiotherapeutic procedures are prescribed.

How to cure prostatitis at home: tips and reviews

IMPORTANT: You should not rely on the treatment of prostatitis only with folk remedies

  • It is imperative to undergo a medicinal and physiotherapeutic course, which includes treatment with antibiotics, antispasmodics, hormones, darsonvalization, ultrasound treatment, electrophoresis, massage
  • It is good to undergo sanatorium-resort treatment. Folk remedies will be good and effective in the process of consolidating recovery and for preventing the disease and its relapses
  • In addition to the recommended mandatory treatment, patients with prostatitis should be more active in sports, make a balanced diet, work and rest, give up smoking and alcohol excesses

Symptoms of asymptomatic prostatitis

In this case, the man has no symptoms of prostatitis. Therefore, it is usually diagnosed in the later stages, when the disease has led to an increase in the size of the organ and significant impairment of urination. Clinical and bacterial urine tests help identify it, where the doctor can see a large number of leukocytes and the presence of bacteria. Due to the fact that this type of disease does not manifest itself in any way, it very often leads to the occurrence of a chronic form.

Knowing how prostatitis manifests itself in the initial stages, it is important for a man to pay attention to the urge to urinate at night and impaired morning erection.

Types of prostatitis

Symptoms of prostatitis directly depend on its type. Doctors distinguish a number of varieties of the disease, each of which is characterized by certain characteristics.

Bacterial

This type of prostatitis can be acute or chronic. The provoking factor of the disease is the addition of harmful microorganisms or viral infections against the background of a weakened immune system or under the influence of other factors.

This form of the disease is usually diagnosed between 21 and 43 years of age. In this case, the main signs of inflammation of the prostate include a significant increase in temperature - it can rise to 40 degrees. People also experience general weakness, chills, and difficulty urinating.

Patients often suffer from erectile dysfunction, pain in the perineum, and purulent and bloody impurities in the urine. The chronic form of the disease has milder manifestations. However, when the disease recurs, the signs of prostatitis intensify.

Calculous

This form of pathology is accompanied by inflammatory damage to the gland due to the formation of stones. In 70% of cases, the disease develops in men over 60 years of age. It is associated with the lack of treatment for chronic prostatitis. Untreated urolithiasis may also be the cause.

The main manifestations of the disease include pain in the pelvis, sacrum and perineum. Discomfort increases with physical activity of the body. The disease is also characterized by impaired urination, bloody impurities in the urine, increased irritability, and weakened erections.

Stagnant

This form of the disease is characterized by a chronic course. The disease develops when blood flow in the pelvic organs is disrupted. The cause may also be stagnation of secretions in the prostate. It is usually observed in the absence of sexual intercourse.

This form of the disease is characterized by problems with urination. The person also experiences discomfort in the testicles and groin. His temperature may increase, erection may be impaired, and depression may develop.

Purulent

This term refers to one of the types of acute bacterial forms of the disease. Purulent prostatitis is characterized by a significant increase in temperature up to 40 degrees. The person also experiences purulent impurities in the urine, urination is impaired, and severe pain occurs in the perineum and groin area.

Without adequate therapy, approximately one third of patients develop an abscess or lymphadenitis. There is also a risk of blood poisoning.

In urology, it is customary to distinguish two main forms of prostate inflammation: acute and chronic. In the first case, the symptoms begin abruptly, develop rapidly and cause a lot of anxiety to the man.

Common causes of acute inflammation of the prostate are hypothermia, trauma and errors in sexual life. The disease can be detected in men aged 20-45 years; in other periods of life, acute prostatitis is extremely rare.

Chronic prostatitis is often a complication of acute form or benign prostatic hyperplasia. This form is characterized by mild symptoms, periods of attenuation and exacerbations. Chronic prostatitis most often occurs in older men, but it is possible that this form can also be identified in middle-aged and young people.

Treatment

Symptoms and treatment of prostatitis will always depend on its type. The basic principles of therapy are as follows:

  • There is no single drug, as well as treatment tactics. Therapy for each patient will be individual.
  • The effectiveness of treatment will depend on the stage at which treatment is started.

We will talk about what medications are used in modern medicine to treat prostatitis in men.

Doctors from the program “Live Healthy!” discuss symptoms and approaches to treatment:

  • Treatment must be comprehensive and take into account the condition of the patient’s body. At the same time, it is important to correctly determine the factor that became the root cause of the development of prostatitis.
  • Self-medication is under no circumstances allowed. This way a man can cause irreparable harm to his body, which will lead to the development of serious complications.

Treatment of the acute phase of bacterial prostatitis

In this case, the doctor’s prescription will depend on what symptoms bother the patient and how severe they are.

The bacterial type of inflammation is characterized by fever, chills, headache and pain in the pelvic area. Nausea and vomiting often occur. The danger of this condition lies in possible complications (development of an abscess, septicopyemia, etc.). Often complications arise against the background of other chronic diseases or diabetes.

In the acute course of the disease, the patient requires hospitalization. The treatment regimen for acute prostatitis is as follows:

  1. Bed rest is mandatory for the patient.
  2. Taking antibacterial drugs.
  3. Due to the risk of sepsis, prostate massage is not performed in this case.
  4. Taking medications should be aimed at normalizing blood circulation. For this purpose, the following may be prescribed: “Detralex”, “Cavinton”, etc. These medications promote the outflow of blood and lymph from the inflamed area, remove decay products and reduce toxic manifestations.

You can buy Detralex in pharmacies at a price of 650 rubles for 30 tablets of 500 mg.

  1. The use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: Ibuprofen, Indomethacin, etc. Such drugs relieve pain and relieve inflammation.
  2. In some cases, it is indicated to take analgesics that eliminate pain: “Ketanov”, “Nimesil”, etc. To enhance the effect, a doctor for prostatitis may recommend using these drugs in the form of suppositories.
  3. In case of severe intoxication of the body, the patient is administered rheological solutions “Neocompensan” or “Hemodez” and electrolytes “Trisol”, Ringer’s solution, etc.

If an abscess occurs or the patient has incomplete emptying of the bladder, the doctor will prescribe surgery.

Antibacterial therapy is mandatory. Most often prescribed: Ofloxacin, Levofloxacin, Sumamed, Doxycycline, Cefotaxime, etc.

If there is no improvement in the condition 10-14 days after the start of therapy, the doctor will reconsider the prescription.

Treatment of chronic prostatitis

In this case, the treatment regimen will largely depend on the stage of the disease. If an exacerbation occurs, the therapy will be similar to that prescribed in the case of bacterial prostatitis.

Remission is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • Regular but short-term pain, most often of a pulling nature.
  • Urinary disorders (cramping, frequent urge, etc.).
  • Development of depression, disturbance of psycho-emotional state.

There is no consensus regarding the treatment of the chronic stage of prostatitis. Therefore, the doctor will focus on the existing symptoms and prescribe medications that will help normalize the patient’s condition.

Doctor of Medical Sciences Vladimir Viktorovich Borisov answers questions about treatment:

Approximate treatment plan for chronic prostatitis:

  1. Prescription of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
  2. The use of drugs that ensure the outflow of blood and lymph from the inflamed area.
  3. Taking immunomodulators (Thymosin, T-activin, etc.). "Vitaprost" and "Prostatilen" help relieve swelling, reduce the likelihood of blood clots, and improve blood circulation.
  4. Sedatives and antidepressants help cope with sexual dysfunction.
  5. To improve blood circulation and strengthen the pelvic muscles, the patient is prescribed physical therapy and physiotherapy (electrophoresis, UHF, microwave hyperthermia, etc.).

Is it possible to cure prostatitis? Is prostatitis treated in men?

IMPORTANT: Timely and correct treatment of prostatitis makes its prognosis favorable

When active treatment with medications is completed, effective folk remedies will help support the body and consolidate the healing process. These include treatment of prostatitis:

  • oils
  • medicinal herbs
  • juices
  • pumpkin seeds
  • with a bow
  • using honey whip
  • using celandine

Prevention of prostatitis

To prevent exacerbation of the disease, men diagnosed with prostatitis should engage in prevention. The main preventive measures are:

  • Quitting bad habits (smoking, alcohol abuse). If it is impossible to give up alcohol, then you need to at least limit the amount. You are allowed to drink no more than 1 glass of quality red wine per day. If we talk about smoking, this bad habit leads to poor circulation due to temporary spasm of blood vessels. Thus, the prostate may experience oxygen starvation or not receive enough nutrients it needs. Also, heavy smokers often have high blood pressure, which can also cause inflammation of the prostate gland.
  • It is necessary to lead an active lifestyle.
  • Eliminate the possibility of stress. To do this, you can do auto-training or consult with a psychologist. It is equally important to correctly alternate work and rest. Spend your weekends active with your family or friends. This will be an excellent prevention of depression.
  • Avoid hypothermia and treat any colds promptly.
  • It is important to note that excessive physical activity can be no less dangerous than physical inactivity.

For general strengthening of the male body, it is necessary:

  1. Do morning exercises every day. This could be a light jog or just light exercise. This rule is especially relevant for those whose work involves sitting in one position all day (office work).
  2. A contrast shower helps improve your well-being. This procedure affects both the entire body and the prostate in particular.
  3. A visit to the bathhouse is beneficial. But it is important to remember that after leaving the steam room you should not douse yourself with cold water.
  4. It is necessary to enrich the diet with fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, honey, and herbs. At the same time, you need to limit or completely abandon pickled dishes and sauces.
  5. It is important to improve your sex life and avoid unprotected sex or delayed ejaculation.

To avoid the development of prostatitis and associated complications, every man over 35 years of age is required to undergo regular medical examinations, and if any symptoms of the disease are detected, seek medical help.

Treatment of prostatitis with pumpkin seeds

The chemical composition of pumpkin seeds contains balanced elements that have a beneficial effect on the secretion of the prostate gland, so they are considered one of the first traditional medicines for treating the disease. You can eat pumpkin seeds for prostatitis using several methods.

Pumpkin seeds help improve prostate function.

METHOD #1: You can simply eat 20 – 25 pumpkin seeds (raw) before each meal for three months.

METHOD No. 2: You need to take a certain amount of pre-dried pumpkin seeds and grind them with a coffee grinder along with the peel. The resulting crushed mass can be sifted through a sieve to obtain a powder. This powder should be taken two tablespoons three times a day, washed down with warm water with honey diluted in it. Take the powder before meals also for three months.

METHOD No. 3: Raw pumpkin seed powder (see above) can be mixed directly with honey. For half a kilogram of pumpkin seeds you will need a glass of honey. Roll the resulting mass into balls and refrigerate until thickened. Take a ball of seeds and honey 3 times a day before meals for three months. Based on pumpkin seed extract, a special dietary supplement “Pumpkin” has been developed for the treatment of prostatitis. Its instructions can be found at places where dietary supplements are sold.

Surgery

Before surgically treating prostatitis, urologists use all methods of conservative therapy. Surgical intervention is indicated when alpha-blockers and broad-spectrum antibiotics are unsuccessful in the development of the following complications of prostatitis:

  • the urethra is greatly narrowed as a result of inflammation and swelling of the tissues. In this situation, the man is unable to empty his bladder. The pathology is often complicated by phimosis, in which it becomes impossible to open the head of the penis;
  • A large amount of pus has accumulated in the prostate gland. Surgeons use a special device to pump out secretions from the cavity and then wash it with antiseptic solutions;
  • when the seminal vesicles lose their functional activity due to a severe inflammatory process in the prostate. Surgery is performed to facilitate the removal of prostate secretions;
  • sclerotic changes in the prostate require its partial or complete removal. Surgical intervention is carried out only for health reasons, when all drugs and treatment methods have proven ineffective.

Prostatitis can be easily cured using modern minimally invasive techniques: urethral stenting, ultrasound exposure of the prostate gland, and removal of damage at low temperatures. When choosing surgical operations, preference is given to methods in which the integrity of the skin and soft tissues is only slightly compromised.

Nutrition

Another important element of effective home treatment for prostatitis is nutrition. A balanced diet leads to relief of symptoms of the disease and has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. It is necessary to exclude from the diet such foods as:

  • strong coffee and tea;
  • chocolate;
  • sweet desserts;
  • fatty meats and fish;
  • meat by-products;
  • smoked, pickled, pickled and pickled snacks;
  • alcohol;
  • spicy vegetables like garlic, even a couple of cloves;
  • carbonated drinks;
  • canned food;
  • semi-finished products;
  • fatty meat and vegetable broths;
  • food with flavorings, dyes and preservatives.

For prostatitis, you need food with a lot of zinc. It promotes normal sperm production and improved erection. Zinc can be obtained from legumes, seafood, chicken liver, and nuts. Juice therapy is considered effective for inflammation of the prostate gland. Other useful products for this disease include:

  • fresh fruits and vegetables;
  • lean meats and fish;
  • fermented milk drinks;
  • soy products;
  • cheese;
  • cottage cheese;
  • buckwheat, wheat, oatmeal;
  • weak tea;
  • compotes, fruit drinks.

How to treat your prostate at home

To quickly treat prostatitis at home, a wide variety of remedies are used. Complex therapy involves the use of medications, as well as traditional medicine, including herbs and apitherapy, juices and lotions, baths, etc. In addition to folk remedies, do not forget about therapeutic exercises, which, with the correct technique, helps to quickly eliminate inflammation of the prostate gland.

The form of the pathology directly affects the approach to treating prostatitis in men at home. If prostatitis is non-bacterial, then it occurs in a chronic form, and inflammation of bacterial origin can also have an acute course. Only after a urological consultation together with a doctor can you choose the most suitable treatment at home. Many experts admit that there are quite effective folk remedies and methods for home treatment of prostatitis, but it is better to use them as additional help. They help fight prostatitis and speed up the patient’s recovery.

Medicines

For prostatitis of an infectious, bacterial nature, patients are prescribed antibiotics. These drugs are quite diverse, so you can choose a medicine for prostatitis for each patient. Drugs are also prescribed to eliminate swelling and spasms, painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as medications that accelerate healing.

Drug treatment for prostatitis usually includes not only drugs for internal use, but also topical agents such as suppositories and microenemas. Suppositories are artificially synthesized or herbal; they may have antibacterial or anti-inflammatory activity. It is very convenient to use rectal suppositories for prostatitis. They are inserted directly into the anus, bypassing the digestive system, so they will not negatively affect the stomach and liver structures. This way the patient will be able to avoid toxic effects. The most popular and effective suppositories are Rifampicin and Voltaren, Natalsid and propolis suppositories.

Treatment of prostatitis at home using microenemas is no less effective. You can use special pharmaceutical solutions or prepare an enema mixture yourself. Also used are drugs in capsules or tablets like Prostonorm, Vitaprost, Civilin or Cernilton, Afala, etc. Also, treatment of prostatitis at home involves the use of hormonal medications and immunomodulators (Polyoxidonium), muscle relaxants (Mydocalm) and α-blockers (Prazosin or Doxazosin). Each drug has its own contraindications, so they must be taken strictly as prescribed by the urologist.

Medicinal infusions

Infusions of medicinal plants are excellent for curing prostatitis at home. There are a lot of useful recipes.

  1. Hazel foliage and bark. The raw materials need to be brewed and left under the lid for an hour. It is better to use the bark and foliage of young trees. A glass of boiling water is enough for a large spoonful of crushed raw materials. The infusion is filtered and taken four times a day, ¼ cup. There is an opinion that after taking this remedy for a week, inflammation of the prostate gland can be cured at home.
  2. Aspen bark. To prepare this medicine, you need to collect the bark from young aspen trees in early spring and dry it in the oven. Then 100 g of crushed bark is poured into 200 ml of vodka and kept for 2 weeks in a dark cabinet, shaking every day. Then the product is filtered and taken 20 drops per 100 ml of water three times a day. The duration of treatment may take several months.
  3. Blooming Sally. It is necessary to pour a large spoon of chopped herbs with a glass of boiled water and leave under a tightly closed lid for 40 minutes. The infusion is filtered and drunk three times a day, using a large spoon.
  4. Aloe and honey. You need to grind half a kilo of aloe leaves older than 3-4 years and mix the mass with half a kilogram of honey, mix thoroughly. Then add half a liter of dry red wine to the resulting mixture and leave for 5 days in a dark cabinet. Take a large spoonful several times a day for an inflamed prostate at home for a month.
  5. Another way to get rid of prostatitis at home is to take ginseng tincture. The root is poured with 50% alcohol and kept for at least two weeks. The finished tincture is taken every day, 20 drops. The drug is contraindicated for sleep disorders and hypertension.

It is recommended to include these drugs in the course of treatment of inflammatory pathology of the prostate at home as an additional therapeutic effect.

Decoctions for prostatitis

Treatment of prostatitis with means such as decoctions is effective. You can prepare medicine from hazel branches. You need to take thin young branches, pour boiling water over them and boil for half an hour. A properly prepared drug will have a reddish-brown tint. The resulting liquid should be taken orally or used for a sitz bath.

Decoctions of herbs and other plant materials, such as chestnuts, are also useful. You need to grind fresh chestnut shells and brew it with boiling water, heat the container with the drink in a bathhouse for half an hour, then cool it and take the decoction instead of tea every day. Prostatitis can also be treated with ripe chestnuts. You need to grind the peel, pour three large spoons of the crushed raw material with a glass of boiling water, and then simmer over low heat for 15-20 minutes. You should drink this remedy in a large spoon before meals.

Many are successfully treated with herbal remedies. For example, a decoction of a mixture of bearberry, birch leaves and yarrow. Pour boiling water over a large spoon of the mixture and heat it in a bathhouse for a quarter of an hour, then filter and drink 2 large spoons before meals. How to cure prostatitis if the disease cannot be controlled with medications? You need to help the body with decoctions of burdock root, horsetail or hawthorn, chamomile flowers, etc.

Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are considered one of the best remedies to relieve inflammation in prostatic tissues. This product is incredibly rich in zinc, which is what makes it so effective in antiprostatic therapy. Every day, men need to eat at least 30 seeds before meals. This amount of pumpkin seeds contains the daily requirement of the zinc element, which perfectly fights prostatic pathologies.

It is useful to prepare dessert from pumpkin. To do this, you need to peel half a kilo of seeds and grind them in a blender to a porridge. Then you need to add 200 g of honey to the seed pulp. Roll the resulting mixture into nut-sized balls and place them in the refrigerator. Every morning you need to eat two of these homemade candies, but you don’t need to swallow them right away; experts recommend dissolving them slowly. This treatment is excellent in preventing prostatic diseases; it is recommended to take it once a year for a month to prevent prostatitis and other gland pathologies.

Juice therapy

When the prostate becomes inflamed, specific juice therapy perfectly relieves pathological symptoms. To prepare juices, you need to use tools such as a juicer and vegetables. When consuming freshly squeezed and natural juices, patients actively eliminate uric acid deposits, which helps relieve the inflammatory process, as well as remove pathogenic microorganisms. The most healing and beneficial for the male prostate are:

  • Carrot and pumpkin juice mixed in equal proportions;
  • A drink made from elderberries, it is recommended to drink 100 ml on an empty stomach for 10 days;
  • Asparagus juice, which should be drunk every day, 0.5 liters;
  • Vegetable juices from cucumbers, carrots or beets, which should be drunk every day, 0.6 liters;
  • Juice from horseradish or fresh radish not only alleviates symptoms, but also prevents the development of prostatic inflammation; you need to take 2 tablespoons of any of the juices per day.

As a result of consuming natural and freshly prepared juices, short-term hyperthermic reactions may occur, but after a couple of days everything will return to normal.

Parsley

How to relieve an attack of prostatitis? There are many recommendations regarding the benefits of parsley for men's health, and numerous reviews confirm this fact. Regular consumption of parsley will help a man maintain normal sexual functions and also prevent the development of prostatic inflammatory process. Such a high therapeutic and prophylactic effect is due to the presence of a large number of mineral and vitamin components in the composition of the spicy plant. Already in one hundred grams of greens there are two daily doses of ascorbic acid and retinol.

How to treat prostatitis with parsley at home? You can freely include it in your diet by adding it to fresh vegetable salads. And some herbalists recommend making juice from it. For a one-time dose, it is enough to squeeze a large spoonful of juice from the greens; you should take the drink three times a day before meals, half an hour. Also in anti-prostatic treatment, you can use the seeds of the plant, grinding them into a powder. You need to take 4 spoons of seeds, grind them, pour boiling water (250 ml), boil over low heat for 15 minutes. The finished broth must be cooled, filtered, and taken 5 times a day in a large spoon.

Parsley rhizome can be used as first aid for exacerbation of prostatitis. You need to take two spoons of raw material and grind it, then pour a glass (0.2 l) of boiling water. Cover the mixture with a lid, boil for 10 minutes, cool and filter. You need to take 100 ml of the decoction.

Garlic for prostatitis

Garlic has antioxidant properties; thanks to the presence of allicin and phytoncides, garlic effectively destroys bacterial microorganisms, which makes treating prostatitis with garlic at home quite productive and effective. The presence of sulfur compounds in the vegetable provides an antibiotic effect on inflammatory processes. Garlic also activates immune processes at the cellular level, strengthening the body’s resistance to prostatic inflammation. The vegetable is also a natural antiviral agent, so it prevents infection from entering the male body and at the same time strengthens the immune system.

Vegetable culture helps improve vascular activity, prevents pelvic congestion, preventing the development of prostatitis. The garlic course usually takes a month and is based on the destruction of the infectious process. Thanks to the presence of phytoncides, the product effectively copes with pathogenic microbes. We treat the disease with infusion, which is prepared from 400 ml of boiling water and 5 cloves of garlic. You need to chop the cloves, pour boiled water over them and keep them covered for 12 hours. You should take the infusion a quarter glass before meals.

Propolis

It is incredibly useful to use propolis in the treatment of prostatitis. How can you take it?

  • Rectal suppositories are made from bee glue.
  • It is necessary to pour 10 g of propolis with 30 ml of alcohol and leave for 10 days, shaking it periodically.
  • When the infusion period is over, you need to evaporate the propolis-alcohol mixture over fire until a brown liquid mass without alcohol remains in the container.
  • Then you need to add 20 g of butter and bring the mixture to a homogeneous mass in a bathhouse.
  • Now all that remains is to form candles (10 pieces), which are wrapped in foil and stored in the refrigerator.

Therapy with suppositories is carried out for 20 days. You need to insert one suppository into the anus at night. Then they take a 10-day break, and then repeat the course of therapy again. Prostatitis treated with propolis suppositories usually goes away quite quickly, and with proper prevention it never returns.

Prevention

To consolidate the results of therapy, you need to use prevention. Preventive actions can begin to be used during the chronic course of the disease. When inflammation is acute, most of them are contraindicated.

Prevention is aimed at eliminating stagnant processes, maintaining immunity, and eliminating concomitant diseases. It is extremely important to eliminate the root cause of the disease (stagnation, transfer of infection from another area).

After prostatitis is cured, some actions will need to be performed constantly. They are quite simple and general in nature:

  • you will need to give up bad habits;
  • lose excess weight (if any) and start eating right;
  • Visit doctors regularly for examination.

Regular testing is a vital part of prevention. Every man should visit a urologist at least once a year. Examinations will help avoid re-infection. Examination and diagnosis are also effective for primary prevention, as they help to identify the preconditions for the disease and quickly get rid of them.

A little about how to avoid prostatitis

It is important for men to remember that their lifestyle directly determines the diseases that they later suffer from. Prevention of prostatitis in men consists of the following rules:

  • do not overcool, do not overheat;
  • exercise;
  • avoid constipation;
  • treat diseases preceding prostatitis in a timely manner;
  • visit your doctor periodically for examination;
  • complete rest;
  • full sex life with one partner.

Baths

Treatment of prostatitis with folk remedies involves the use of water procedures. These are baths that improve blood supply to the pelvic organs. They must be taken for at least 15-20 minutes. The baths are sedentary, you can only immerse to the level of the lower back, and not the whole body. The best effect will be by simply sitting in the bath and simultaneously rubbing the pelvic area and perineum. Other recommendations for carrying out water procedures:

  • doctors advise adding decoctions of medicinal herbs to the bath, such as chamomile, sage, cucumber, linden;
  • It is better to carry out the procedure in the evening before bedtime;
  • Hypothermia should not be allowed after the bath is over;
  • To ensure a massaging effect, direct a stream of warm water of moderate pressure from bottom to top onto the perineum.

Doctors' recommendations

Any urologist will warn the patient that before using any folk or home remedy, you must consult with him. This measure is necessary to understand exactly what form of prostatitis the patient has developed, which drugs and home remedies are most effective.

Doctors do not deny that many plants are useful for prostatitis, because they have a healing effect on the male genitourinary system. Doctors for prostatic inflammation recommend birch and St. John's wort, horsetail and lingonberry, licorice and string. These plants, as confirmed by reviews, have anti-inflammatory and diuretic effects. And for restoring sexual functions, parsley and lemon balm, tansy and chamomile, cornflower and cinquefoil are useful.

Physiotherapeutic treatment

The course of physiotherapy is selected individually in combination with drug treatment. Hardware physiotherapy may include the following procedures:

  1. Galvanization . Prostatitis is treated using direct current.
  2. Electrophoresis as a variant of galvanization with the use of drugs.
  3. Ultrasound . A rectal emitter is used.
  4. Magnetotherapy . It is prescribed to many people as it has no contraindications.

Physiotherapy methods are compatible with all medications. For the most part, these methods do not carry any side effects, with the exception of cases of individual intolerance.

Physiotherapeutic procedures for prostatitis

How to treat prostatitis with massage? This method also applies to physiotherapy. The purpose of the massage is to remove stagnant secretions from the organ. In addition, prostate stimulation improves blood circulation in the area.

All actions are carried out through the anus. Massaging is carried out through the wall of the rectum. At the same time, the doctor observes the secretion. If the fluid does not appear, this indicates complications of the disease.

To achieve a therapeutic effect, you will need an average of 10 massage sessions. You can massage yourself, but first you should learn how to do it, since spontaneous actions can only cause harm and cause injury to the rectum.

During illness, physical activity is also important. Therefore, the doctor is developing a series of exercises that will help get rid of prostatitis in a comprehensive manner. The effect of therapeutic exercises is aimed at improving the blood supply to the organ, as well as normalizing metabolic processes.

Intimate life during the course of the disease

With acute prostatitis, one cannot talk about a rich and vibrant intimate life. After all, a man feels pain in the groin area, and sex can only aggravate the condition. Much less discomfort occurs with a chronic disease, but you should not reassure yourself with this, since subsequently the functions of the reproductive system may be reduced to zero. During sexual intercourse, the main thing is ejaculation, since it eliminates the possibility of stagnation of secretions in the gland and stimulates its functioning. In order not to worry later about how to treat prostatitis in men, it is important to adhere to a certain way of life.

Causes and classification

All causes of inflammation in the prostate gland are classified into two groups - infectious and non-infectious.

Prostatitis

Table. Groups of causes of prostatitis - comparison.

InfectiousNon-infectious
1. Sexually transmitted infections 2. Chronic infectious foci in the body: sinusitis, renal pathology, chronic stage of tonsillitis, etc. 3. Infection can form in the prostate after surgery on the genitourinary and pelvic organs.The reasons for the occurrence of non-infectious prostatitis can be grouped under a general section - incorrect lifestyle. The disease is caused by: · reduced physical activity; · sedentary activity or simply prolonged inactivity; hypothermia; · insufficiently strong immunity; · sexual inactivity (abstinence); · sexual hyperactivity; · alcohol and other harmful addictions in excessive quantities.

By the way. The formation of prostatitis does not always precede isolated penetration of the pathogen into the organ. Various injuries, hormonal pathologies, impaired lymph circulation or blood stagnation can contribute to the onset of the disease.

The causes of prostatitis can be different

  1. The most common pathogen is Escherichia coli. In 86% of cases, prostate inflammation is caused by E. coli.
  2. This is followed by klebsiella bacteria.
  3. Bacteria of the genus proteus.
  4. Gram-positive bacteria enterococcus.
  5. Gram-negative pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pseudomonas aeruginosa).

Escherichia coli

Such specific pathogens, such as Koch's bacillus or Treponema pallidum, cause prostatitis in very rare cases.

NIH USA Classifier

Inflammation of the prostate is a disease accompanied by an inflammatory process that is localized in it. The duration of the process depends on the form of the disease - acute or chronic. The second is diagnosed if the process lasts more than three months.

Types of prostatitis

The whole world uses the classifier, which was approved in 1995 by the National Institute of Health of America. It contains four categories and two subcategories.

Table. Categories of prostatitis and description.

CategoryDesignationDescription
IAcute formAcute inflammation of the prostate of an infectious nature is diagnosed. It has the following signs: · bacteria are present in the urine; body temperature rises; · increased leukocyte level; · there is intoxication.
IIChronic form (bacterial)There are signs of inflammation. Leukocytes and the number of bacteria in the ejaculate and prostate secretions exceed the norm. A urine test shows a high leukocyte count and the presence of pathogenic bacteria.
IIIThe chronic form (abacterial) is also referred to as pelvic pain syndrome. This includes two subcategories: IIIa and IIIb The main clinical symptom is the presence of pain for more than three months. At the same time, pathogenic microbes are not detected in secretions, urine and ejaculate.
IIIaChronic form with signs of inflammationProlonged pain syndrome, accompanied by an excess of the leukocyte count. Standard general tests do not detect the presence of pathogens.
IIIbChronic form without signs of inflammationPain syndrome is present, but the leukocyte norm is not exceeded, and pathogenic organisms are not detected by standard methods.
IVAsymptomatic form of chronic prostatitisAs follows from the designation, the disease occurs in the absence of symptoms. It can be detected randomly by performing diagnostic histology.

By the way. This classification does not include granulomatous prostatitis, which is rare and is considered one of the chronic subforms.

Granulomatous prostatitis

Diagnostics

The diagnostic examination scheme is directly dependent on the complaints and signs with which the patient turns to a urologist or andrologist.

Diagnosis of prostatitis in men can be performed both at home and in a medical facility.

The initial diagnostic stage is collecting data for anamnesis. The doctor performs an external examination of the genital organs and listens to the patient’s complaints.

Based on the initial data, a scheme for further diagnostic examination of the sick man is developed.

During the collection of anamnesis, the doctor determines the duration of the symptoms that appeared, the presence of previous prostatitis, a list of past diseases by the patient, risk factors for the development of the disease, a possible list of past sexually transmitted diseases, the development of signs of the disease, the presence of sexual partners and sexual relations.

At the present stage of development of medicine, a list of questions is placed in a questionnaire that the patient fills out before visiting the doctor’s office. This saves patient and doctor time.

The first mandatory stage of examining a patient with signs of prostatitis is an examination of the prostate gland from the rectum.

The doctor determines the degree of enlargement of the inflamed organ, its density, uniformity of consistency or the presence of nodes or compactions, and the degree of pain during palpation.

Before palpation, an enema of the intestinal cavity is performed.

In the absence of an inflammatory process in the prostate, there is no pain, but with prostatitis, the intensity of the pain can be different, and its localization is felt in the groin, rectum, perineum, and sacrum. In this case, a number of procedures, for example, cystography, are contraindicated.

For microscopic examination of prostate secretions, the patient undergoes a prostate massage through the rectum.

If there is a desire to urinate before the end of the prostate massage, this cannot be done until a drop of prostate secretion from the urethral opening is taken for analysis.

The procedure ends with passing a microscope slide over the opening of the urethra, after which the smear is stained and microscopically analyzed for the following parameters:

  • presence of leukocytes and counting their number;
  • lecithin amount;
  • activity of pathogenic microorganisms and their presence.

The detection of bacteria in the field of view of the smear indicates an infectious type of prostatitis.

The number of leukocytes in the field of view of more than 2 indicates an inflammatory process in the prostate.

For a reliable result of a microscopic examination, it is necessary to correctly take the sample for analysis and correctly stain the preparation.

The above tests are mandatory, additional examinations are prescribed by the doctor selectively, depending on the doctor’s suspicions about the nature of the inflammation.

Analysis of urethral secretions is performed with an instrument similar to a catheter. Cotton wool is wound over the metal coating.

Before taking the test, avoid urinating for 2-3 hours. Otherwise, the microflora is washed out into the external environment.

The doctor inserts a cotton swab approximately 4 cm into the opening of the penis and makes rotational movements. A swab from the urethra is examined for the presence of DNA residues and bacteria.

Urinalysis is a means of detecting blood cells: red and white blood cells, protein (normally absent or present in trace amounts).

If errors are made in the analysis of the urethral smear and symptoms of prostatitis, urine culture is prescribed for bacteriological analysis.

The disadvantage of this method is the long wait for the growth of a colony of pathogenic microorganisms (up to 1 week).

Sowing is carried out using a comparative method after collecting three portions of urine (beginning, middle and end of bladder emptying).

A larger number of pathogenic microorganisms in one of the samples gives rise to the assumption of a localized focus of infection.

The detection of bacteria in the first part of urine does not provide grounds for confirmation of inflammation.

The second and third parts of urine with an excess of the number of detected microorganisms provide grounds for determining the localization of inflammation (in the urethra and bladder, respectively).

The degree of deviation of sexual function from the norm is checked by analyzing sperm for viscosity and other physical and chemical indicators of the environment, for the activity and viability of male gametes; a spermogram is rarely prescribed.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Spermogram interpretation, norms.

The uroflowmetric method is used infrequently. If possible and to complement the picture of the changes occurring, a urodynamic examination of the urinary tract is performed.

Ultrasound examination clarifies the density of the diseased organ and other parameters obtained after a digital examination of the prostate through the rectum.

The prostate gland is viewed in two ways: transrectal ultrasound and ultrasound through the abdominal cavity.

If adenoma or prostate cancer is suspected, the doctor may prescribe an additional cytoscopic blood examination, the so-called PSA test.

A blood sample is taken from a vein, and a blood test establishes (rules out) the presence of the PCA protein, which appears in malignant tumors.

At home, a patient may suspect prostatitis based on the color and turbidity of the urine and the symptoms of the disease.

What to do if prostatitis appears?

Prostatitis is a disease that occurs when inflammation develops in the pancreas. Symptoms and methods of treatment have already been discussed above. When the first signs of prostatitis appear, you should immediately consult a doctor. At home, if the pain is severe, you can use NSAIDs or antispasmodics.

Self-medication during the formation of prostatitis is not recommended. It is for this reason that many men suffer from chronic forms of problems with urination and erectile function. Often, the lack of adequate therapy becomes the cause of infertility. Therefore, when seeking help, after relieving inflammation and alleviating the condition, it is recommended to engage in prevention. This is the only way to reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease and its occurrence in general.

Exercises

Physical exercise helps eliminate lymph stagnation in the pelvic area. Activity is important, since a sedentary lifestyle is a prostatitis-provoking factor. A man is recommended to regularly take walks or jogs if his health allows. Morning exercises must be included in your daily routine. After it you need to massage the perineum for a couple of minutes. Among the exercises (gymnastics) the following are especially effective:

  1. Squats . About 3 times a week, perform 3 sets of 50 squats. There should be a break of 3 minutes between approaches.
  2. Pelvic rotations . You need to stand up straight, put your feet shoulder-width apart, and place your hands on your belt. Next, in this position, you need to make circular movements with your pelvis 10 times in one direction or the other.
  3. Walking on your buttocks . You need to sit on the floor, straighten your legs. Next, you need to move your buttocks, taking several “steps” forward and backward.

Such a shameful disease - prostatitis

Not everyone knows what prostatitis is.
But those men who once had to treat this disease experienced all the pain and psychological and physiological discomfort. From Greek this word is translated as “standing in front.” Drawing an analogy with the frequency of urological diseases in men, we can affirmatively say that this disease really ranks first, compared to others. The whole complex of problems that appears with the onset of this disease causes serious difficulties in the patient’s life. We can safely say that the disease is not dangerous, but it poses a threat to a man’s sex life. What kind of disease is this, and how to treat prostatitis in men? The prostate - the prostate gland of the strong half of humanity - is a muscular-glandular organ. Everything here is arranged very complexly and precisely, so that the reproductive function of a man is fully performed. The glandular part of the prostate produces a very important and specific secretion, in turn, the muscular component of this organ, through its contractions, helps to connect sperm and secretion during ejaculation. Prostate secretion is a liquid, otherwise called juice, which is very complex in composition. It contains various microelements, amino acids, proteolytic enzymes. This complex content is due to the special purpose of the secretion - liquefying sperm and promoting sperm in the female genital organs. There is scientific evidence that 95% of seminal fluid is the secretion of the prostate gland. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to your health as soon as the first symptoms of prostatitis appear in men.

Treatment with leeches

Hirudotherapy is an effective technique aimed at combating prostatitis. This is due to the fact that during such sessions there is stimulation of blood supply. To do this, the leeches must be placed on the anus in an X-shaped pattern, where the center of the letter is the anus, and the edges are the leeches. The course of treatment includes 5 sessions, between which there is a break of 4-5 days. The benefits of leech therapy for inflammation of the prostate gland are threefold:

  1. Improved blood supply.
  2. Increasing the volume of blood that circulates in the area of inflammation.
  3. Saturation of the human body and prostate gland with useful substances and elements that enter there together with leech saliva.

Folk recipes

Treatment of prostatitis, which is carried out at home, is usually based on the use of folk recipes. Thanks to this, you can relieve pain, relieve inflammation of the prostate, and also restore the normal process of urination. In addition, some herbs that treat prostatitis can increase the overall tone of the human body, as well as its resistance to various infections. Let's look at the most effective recipes that can relieve inflammation of the prostate gland in men.

Use of medications

To reduce swelling and pain, antispasmodics are prescribed. The most widespread in this group is No-shpa. Platiphylline is prescribed to patients to make the walls of the gland smooth and elastic. This also contributes to accelerated recovery of the organ. Painkillers are used for acute pain. Novocaine blockade is very effective. In some cases, with its help it is possible to get rid of pain for up to six months.

Rectal suppositories are a common dosage form for the treatment of prostatitis. Usually experts give preference to Diclofenac. These candles are easy to store and quite effective. The above antibiotics are prescribed not only in tablet form, but also in injection form. They have an anti-inflammatory effect and destroy pathogenic flora.

The main groups of these drugs are:

  • penicillins;
  • fluoroquinolones;
  • cephalosporins;
  • macrolides;
  • tetracyclines.

Microenemas are widely used. In this case, a medicinal solution is used, which is injected directly into the rectum. It reaches the prostate gland and has a beneficial effect on it.

Massage

Professional urologists advise all men with prostatitis to massage the prostate gland. This procedure improves local blood circulation, provides stimulation of organ function, good muscle tone and secretion outflow, and increases sexual performance. Massage is carried out in different ways: rectally or through the perineal tissue. The first method is considered more effective. Instructions for performing a massage using the rectal method:

  • wear medical gloves;
  • Lubricate your index finger with Vaseline or cream;
  • carefully insert it into the anus to a depth of 5 cm;
  • for 1.5 minutes, carefully massage the prostate with light stroking movements, pressing so that there is no feeling of pain.

Development of pathology

The pathology of the prostate gland, which develops as a result of inflammatory processes in it, is called the disease - prostatitis.

More often than others, an infectious form of prostatitis occurs. An infection that can affect the prostate through penetration from the urethral opening or other organs and glands of the genitourinary system.

The high probability of infection of the organ is due to the adjacent location of the anus and urethral canal.

With this probability, statistics reveal infrequent inflammation of the prostate in men, which is associated with the organ’s adaptability to infected neighbors.

Even the presence of an infection in the prostate does not ensure the development of inflammation.

Inflammation of the prostate occurs due to the combined action of pathogenic microorganisms and provoking factors.

Possible complications

Complications after prostatitis occur in the absence of medical intervention in the course of the disease or in the absence of an incorrect treatment regimen.

Medical practice shows the most common spread after prostatitis:

  • lack of erection and ejaculation;
  • spread of the inflammatory process to nearby organs of the genitourinary system;
  • cytological disorders leading to the inability of sperm to fertilize eggs;
  • decreased libido;
  • psychoneurotic conditions that reduce the quality of life and health status of men in general.

The penis after prostatitis sharply reduces its ability to harden and fill with blood. Possible sexual contacts end quickly compared to the recent full sexual life. Not every sexual contact ends in ejaculation.

If such deviations are detected, a comprehensive diagnostic test is required.

When the inflammatory process spreads to the urethra and bladder, cystitis and urethritis develop.

With the development of the latter, pain of a sharp nature appears, the process of disruption of the outflow of urine (retention or incontinence) threatens to become chronic. The performance of a man in such a state is questionable.

Erectile dysfunction leaves behind a number of psychological and therapeutic problems that require competent medical correction.

The inability of the corpora cavernosa to fill with blood is explained by the edematous state of the prostate and associated genitourinary organs.

The blood supply to the penis, necessary for an erect state, becomes problematic.

Psychologically, a third of men who have developed consequences after prostatitis suffer in severe form.

The man’s condition can only normalize during long-term psychological work with the patient against the background of drug therapy. Failures in sexual life prevent further desire to continue sexual life.

Prostatitis can provoke a violation of the acid-base composition of sperm, which affects the fertilizing ability of sperm.

The result of the pathology is first-degree infertility in men. In this condition, it is important to promptly eliminate the cause of infertility due to the inability to cure second-degree infertility with medication. An andrologist or urologist can prescribe competent treatment. This is why men should not ignore the signs of prostatitis.

Abacterial prostatitis in chronic form

If there is a possibility of inflammation of the prostate of a non-bacterial nature, when the pathogen is not detected in the initial studies, the diagnosis of abacterial prostatitis is confirmed. If it is not diagnosed and treated in time, a late stage will develop, which will be accompanied by constant pain, and all help to the patient will be limited to temporary drug suppression of symptoms.

Symptoms

Characteristic symptoms of non-bacterial prostatitis.

  1. Pain in the pelvic region, soreness of the perineum, pain in the lower back.
  2. Discomfortable urination.
  3. Unpleasant sexual intercourse, accompanied by nagging painful sensations.
  4. Gastrointestinal disorders of various types.
  5. Weakness, lethargy.
  6. Insomnia.
  7. Depressive states at a later stage.

Depressive states of a person

Pelvic pain syndrome appears mainly due to changes in the neuromuscular processes of the prostate organ. The main reasons include stress and a sedentary lifestyle.

Diagnostics

After the asymptomatic form, diagnosis of this disease is the most difficult. The specificity of making a diagnosis is that doctors have to work by exclusion, in which all other forms of the disease and third-party diagnoses are rejected.

  1. First, when a patient comes in, the doctor examines his medical history.
  2. Then the existing complaints are listened to.
  3. This is followed by a referral for a detailed blood test.
  4. A culture is performed to check for the presence of microorganisms in the urine.
  5. A bacterial smear is made;
  6. Prostate secretions should be cultured for infections.
  7. If the leukocyte level is exceeded in the blood test, but no pathogens are detected in the urine and secretions, the patient is sent for an ultrasound or MRI.

Summary of data on microorganisms that can cause chronic nonbacterial prostatitis

An ultrasound can detect an enlarged prostate, and in the absence of a noticeable enlargement of the gland, changes in the walls of the organ. MRI provides a three-dimensional picture of changes in nerve endings, which can be used to identify the location and degree of their pinching.
