How to treat hemorrhoids - all methods of fighting at home

Treatment of hemorrhoids at home is possible in the early stages of the disease; in advanced forms, it can temporarily alleviate the patient’s condition. This therapy is recommended when there is no need for surgical intervention and constant monitoring, in the absence of signs of inflammation, prolapse and thrombosis of the cones.

You can treat hemorrhoids at home using sitz baths with the addition of a solution of potassium permanganate; it has antiseptic properties.

Symptoms

The following symptoms are typical for external hemorrhoids:

  • the presence of round-shaped bumps in the anal area;
  • an increase in dilated hemorrhoidal veins during bowel movements and physical activity;
  • pain in the rectum;
  • bleeding;
  • itching and burning of the skin of the anal area;
  • swelling and discoloration of surrounding tissues.

Internal hemorrhoids have nodes that cannot be detected at home. They are hidden under the mucous membrane, their expansion is not accompanied by pain. The only sign is slight bleeding after bowel movements.

External hemorrhoids are characterized by pain in the rectum.

Causes

Is it possible to cure hemorrhoids at home? Of course it is possible, especially if therapy is carried out in a timely manner, at the initial stage of the formation of cones. Hemorrhoid nodes are formed due to venous stagnation in the lower intestinal sections.

This pathology is considered an occupational disease of people who spend most of their time sitting:

  • behind the wheel;
  • at the computer;
  • in the office;
  • front of the TV.

Hemorrhoidal pathology also occurs due to:

Physical overexertion

  • chronic constipation;
  • during the period of bearing a child;
  • when pushing during childbirth;
  • in people with heavy physical activity;
  • strength sports athletes.

Another reason for the formation of hemorrhoids is excess weight (increased intra-abdominal pressure of body weight on the pelvic organs and anorectal veins). Quick treatment of established hemorrhoids is possible at home only at the beginning of the development of the pathology.

Drug therapy

The following medications are used to treat hemorrhoids at home:

  1. Ointments Aurobin and Ultraproct. Contains anti-inflammatory and analgesic components. Relieve pain and swelling of tissues, accelerate healing processes.

Baths for hemorrhoids

Taking sitz baths with medicinal decoctions is indicated for hemorrhoids without bleeding, acute inflammation, or large nodes. The purpose of the baths is to relieve pain, speed up healing, and disinfect the anal area. Take baths after defecation and hygienic washing.

Based on temperature they are distinguished:

  • hot baths with a temperature of 45-50°C are indicated for the initial stages of hemorrhoids, they heal, relax, and relieve pain. Sit in a hot bath for 5 minutes;
  • warm baths correspond to a temperature of 35-40°C, are effective at stage 2 of hemorrhoids, exposure in the bath is 10 minutes;
  • cool baths are taken at a temperature of 25-30°C for stage 3 hemorrhoids. Cool washing dulls pain and reduces inflammation. The duration of the bath is 5 minutes. You should not sit longer in cold water to avoid inflammation.

For baths, brew celandine, oak bark, sweet clover, tansy, and cinquefoil erecta. Five tablespoons of dry raw materials are brewed in 3 liters of boiling water. After an hour, the broth is filtered, cooled to the desired temperature and poured into a basin. The procedure is done at night. After the bath, dry the anus and lubricate it with sea buckthorn oil. Baths are contraindicated for pregnant women and women in labor.

Baths with steam and smoke

In addition to classic baths with herbal infusions, the arsenal of folk remedies for hemorrhoids includes smoke and steam baths. Their use requires some experience and skill. The material for such baths is birch tar. This anti-inflammatory, disinfecting and healing folk remedy does not dissolve in water, is difficult to wash off the skin, and irritates the mucous membranes upon direct contact. For the procedure you will need: a 10 liter heat-resistant bucket, a brick, a wooden lid for the bucket with a hole for steam. The lid must support the weight of a person; you will have to sit on it.

Steam bath

Pour a liter of boiling water into the bottom of the bucket, add a tablespoon of tar, stir as much as possible. Close the bucket with a lid, sit on the lid so that the steam gets to the sore spot. If the steam is too hot, wait for a comfortable temperature. Sit on the lid until the steam runs out.

Smoke bath

Now they place a hot brick at the bottom of the bucket, drip tar onto the brick, cover it with a lid, and sit on the lid over the steam. To enhance the effect, you can cover the lower part of the body with a blanket. You can use such folk remedies, being confident in their safety and the absence of contraindications.

Much in this clinical picture depends on the usual food. For example, if a person eats fatty and spicy foods, it will be very difficult for him to cure hemorrhoids forever. Compresses and lotions

Traditional methods for eliminating hemorrhoids recommend compresses and lotions for itching of the anus, swelling of the perineum, and painful swelling. Compresses are made from cool herbal infusions. Lotions are prepared from fresh mashed grass wrapped in gauze.

Compresses for hemorrhoids

The decoction for the compress is prepared according to the following scheme: a teaspoon of dry raw materials per glass of boiling water. The cooled, strained broth is soaked in a gauze swab and placed on the hemorrhoids. You can cover the top with cellophane film.

It is advisable to use the following herbs for compresses against hemorrhoids:

  • wild rosemary;
  • Linden blossom;
  • blueberry and strawberry leaves;
  • common chicory;
  • hazel leaves.

A compress for hemorrhoids is applied for 10 minutes. Before the procedure, do a cold wash and dry the anus with a napkin. After the compress, dry again and lubricate with baby cream or rosehip oil.

Tip 2. Pay attention to hygiene

Toilet paper can be so hard that it simply scratches the delicate skin around the anus. This can serve as a factor that increases the symptoms of hemorrhoids: pain, bleeding (11).

Therefore, instead of paper, it is better to use warm water, and then dry the area around the anus, blotting with a napkin. It will be useful to acquire napkins soaked in some antihemorrhoidal agent (aloe, witch hazel, myrtle extract).

You need to pay attention that the napkins are free of alcohol, synthetic impregnation and fragrances. These substances can have both an irritating and allergic effect. The patient will feel this as an exacerbation of the problem.

Treatment

As the disease progresses, hemorrhoids increase in size. They swell and begin to protrude outward. This is called external hemorrhoids. With such symptoms, the disease cannot be ignored. At an early stage, the disease is treated with conservative therapy using local and systemic drugs. The goal of treatment is to normalize blood flow and increase the tone of the veins. The following drugs contribute to this:

  • hemostatic – Relief, Relief Advance;
  • hepatrombin - Heparin ointment, Heparoid Zentiva;
  • venotonics – Troxevasin, Procto-Glivenol;
  • corticosteroid anti-inflammatory – Proctosan, Aurobin;
  • immunomodulatory - Bezornil, Esculus, Fleming ointment.

If the condition is more advanced or dangerous consequences develop, patients are prescribed surgery. Today there are several types of it: hemorrhoidectomy, laser removal, infrared coagulation, sclerotherapy, cryodestruction. To avoid having to undergo surgery, hemorrhoids should be treated at an early stage. In addition to using medications and traditional recipes, the patient must adhere to the following rules:

  • when working sedentarily, regularly give the body physical activity;
  • avoid hypothermia of the lower back;
  • after defecation, wash with cool water;
  • do not wear too tight underwear.

A little about the effects of different herbs

Folk remedies for hemorrhoids are aimed at combating various problems. Some of them help remove painful symptoms, others fight the cause of the disease. Therefore, several recipes are often used to treat hemorrhoids with folk remedies.

The effectiveness of the drug depends on the effectiveness of the herbs and products that are included in its composition. Therefore, you need to know what properties a particular plant has.

There are many recipes for folk remedies for hemorrhoids in women and men. Most of them are time-tested. At the same time, each recipe is based on its own products.

Given the wide variety of herbs used to prepare folk remedies for the treatment of hemorrhoids, there is no point in describing the properties of each of them. For example, let's get acquainted with some plants that have different healing properties.

Tip 4. Avoid constipation

One of the factors that provokes the appearance and progression of hemorrhoids is straining (13). As a rule, you have to push when you have constipation. Plus, compacted feces injure the mucous membrane of the rectum. There are several ways to “soften” the stool.

Triphala powder or tablets, consisting of three herbal ingredients. If used regularly, they normalize the movement of food through the intestines, stabilize and soften stools (14, 15).

Well-known and accessible to everyone, castor oil is a good remedy for treating hemorrhoids by eliminating constipation. In addition, natural castor oil is rich in antioxidants and has an anti-inflammatory effect. It can be taken orally 3 ml at night to prevent constipation. And in case of pain, to quickly treat an exacerbation, castor oil is applied externally to the inflamed nodes.

A light dinner also helps prevent constipation. Avoid fried foods and foods rich in insoluble fiber (bran, fruits and vegetables) at night. Since insoluble fiber has been proven to provoke constipation (16), and therefore an exacerbation of hemorrhoidal symptoms. In general, if you have hemorrhoids, it is very important to watch your diet.

To soften stool, you can use psyllium husks, psyllium seeds, and plum fruits. And in general, foods enriched with soluble fiber have a beneficial effect on digestion, preventing constipation (17).

Provided normal tolerance, you need to diversify the menu with foods rich in vitamins and antioxidants. These can be carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes.

Treatment during pregnancy

The occurrence of this delicate problem during pregnancy has a high risk. The peculiarity of treatment during this period is that many medications are prohibited. For this reason, traditional methods are more often used, but you need to choose the product with caution, because not all ingredients and recipes are useful for pregnant women. They should not take cold or hot baths. They increase the risk of inflammation of the genital organs and increase blood flow to the pelvis.

Taking medicinal decoctions and infusions internally is also not recommended. Many herbs help increase uterine tone, which can lead to miscarriage or premature birth. Safe folk remedies during pregnancy are ointments and lotions made from natural ingredients, such as:

  1. Sea buckthorn ointment. Mix 5 g of sea buckthorn oil and 95 g of a fatty base, such as pork fat. Mix the ingredients and store in a dark place between procedures. Lubricate hemorrhoids twice a day.
  2. Compress with potatoes. Grate 1 tuber, place the raw material in a gauze bandage. Apply the compress to the anus for 1-1.5 hours.
