Advantan for infants: how to apply the ointment correctly, side effects and reviews from mothers

A rash is a modified area of skin that differs from healthy dermis in appearance, texture and shade. It may appear as blisters, papules, localized spots or blisters. Only a pediatrician or dermatologist can make the correct diagnosis.

Pharmacies are overflowing with specialized medications that promise to quickly relieve the baby from an unpleasant illness. When choosing medications for newborns, it is important to be guided by 2 criteria - effectiveness and safety. And in this context, the drug Advantan for infants, recommended by many dermatologists and pediatricians, deserves special attention.

Instructions for use

Strict adherence to the instructions for use of Advantan ensures a quick positive therapeutic result.
If it is significantly violated, the treatment process goes wrong: negative side effects may occur due to an overdose, or the drug will be ineffective if it is used in insufficient quantities. Advantan fatty ointment, like other forms of medication, is approved for use in children from 4 months of age. Typically, the ointment is applied to the skin once a day for children and 2 times a day for adults in a thin layer directly to the affected area. Until the age of 18 years, the maximum continuous course of therapy is 4 weeks. For adults, therapy is allowed for 3 months. Treatment with the emulsion is possible for no more than 14 days in a row without a break.

Once the ointment or cream is applied in a thin layer, there is no need to rub it in, as it is effectively absorbed by itself. Pressure on the inflamed tissue will only worsen the patient’s condition. If a child does not improve in condition within 5 days, and an adult does not have 10, then a visit to a doctor is required, since the absence of positive changes indicates the need to choose another medicine to get rid of the problem.

Use of Advantan during pregnancy is allowed only for medical indications. When breastfeeding, if a drug is prescribed, the child is transferred to an artificial composition for the entire period of therapy. Do not rub the drug into the area of the mammary glands.

Children are allowed to apply the ointment from the age of 4 months. The dosage and duration of treatment should be determined by a doctor. Using the ointment on your own is allowed only as a last resort and for no more than 5 days in a row. It is recommended to treat areas of skin problems at night.

There are certain general recommendations that must be strictly followed when using Advantan in any form for therapy:

  • For half an hour after treating the skin with the composition, you should not go out into the sun unless the area is covered with clothing. This is due to the fact that until the composition is completely absorbed, the skin becomes more sensitive to the effects of ultraviolet radiation.
  • Simultaneous application of dermatological drugs similar to the main one is not allowed due to the risk of overdose.
  • Perioral dermatitis cannot be treated with Advantan.
  • When treating allergic reactions, a combination of ointment and oral antihistamines helps to significantly increase the speed of recovery.
  • It is possible to use the ointment simultaneously with antibiotic and antifungal compounds.
  • The occurrence of side effects requires urgent refusal of drug treatment and seeking help from a doctor.
  • It is allowed to apply the product under a bandage, as this does not affect the intensity of its absorption.

You should stop using Advantan gradually. To do this, a small amount of ointment is added to a cream with a moisturizing effect, reducing the concentration over the course of a week. If skin problems reappear without medication, it is recommended to immediately seek medical help to avoid worsening the condition.

special instructions

Glucocorticoids are recommended to be used in the smallest dosage possible to achieve and maintain a therapeutic effect. If the patient has bacterial dermatosis or dermatomycosis, then a specific antimycotic or antibacterial effect is recommended.

If the patient simultaneously uses topical glucocorticoids for DOV, this may lead to an increase in local skin infections. It is recommended to use the medication as carefully as possible so that it does not come into contact with mucous membranes and eyes.

The use of the emulsion under an occlusive dressing is not recommended. When using the drug to treat newborns, it must be taken into account that diapers have an occlusive effect. If topical corticosteroids are applied in excessive amounts over large areas, especially under occlusive dressings, this may increase undesirable effects.

If large surfaces of the skin are being treated, especially in pregnant women and the fairer sex who are breastfeeding, then the course should be minimal. This will eliminate absorption and systemic effects. If there is a need to treat children less than 4 months old, the benefits and expected risks are first assessed.

Contraindications and side effects

A side effect of using Advanatan may be an increase in the symptoms of an existing skin disease or the occurrence of an additional allergic reaction. If such signs are present, it is necessary to stop using the drug and be sure to conduct a re-examination at a medical facility.

Alarming signs indicating a negative reaction of the child’s body are stretch marks, acne-like rash and damage to capillaries.

The following factors are contraindications for the use of Advantan:

  • children up to four months of age;
  • period of exacerbation of a viral disease;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • shingles;
  • skin reactions to vaccination;
  • skin lesions due to syphilis;
  • perioral dermatitis;
  • chicken pox;
  • skin tuberculosis of any form and stage.

With long-term use of Advantan, a side effect may occur in the form of increased hair growth.
The risk of such a reaction increases if ointments, creams and emulsions are used for other purposes. At the site of skin treatment with the drug, a blistering rash or inflammation of the hair follicles may occur. In medical practice, the consequences of an overdose or side effects with the correct use of the drug occur in isolated cases.

Side effects

They appear either due to individual intolerance, or due to violation of instructions - exceeding the concentration, prolonging the duration of therapy.

An allergic reaction is observed on the skin - itching, redness, burning, swelling. Striae, darkening of areas of the epidermis at the site of application of the product, acne, and atrophy of the skin occur. In severe cases, the consequences of improper use of the drug are expressed in the occurrence of perioral dermatitis. It is much more difficult to get rid of it.

Storage conditions

The best temperature for storing drugs is considered to be a cool environment, no more than 25 C. Fatty ointments are also recommended to be stored in a cool environment, but a warmer environment of up to 30 degrees is also allowed. Such medications must be kept in closed places away from children.

Shelf life - can be stored - 3 years, no more, and fatty liniment - no more than 5 years. The use of the medication after its expiration date is prohibited.

A special feature of Advantan is that it has the property of instantly removing its main substance and not accumulating it in the body. For a faster effect and faster results, when treating dermatoses, a specific antimycotic or antibacterial medication may be prescribed as an addition. Use the product carefully in the area near the eyes to prevent it from flowing there. When using external therapy with glucocorticosteroids in the eye area, there may be a risk of developing glaucoma. If pathology is noticed, long-term treatment is expected. Use the product under occlusive dressings to treat the skin near the eyes.

Reviews from moms

Alena, 34 years old, Khimki
We have been seeing a private allergist for 3 months. The child’s entire body is covered with scabs: the cheeks look simply terrible, there are few “growths” on the arms and legs. We regularly use Advantan cream, despite the fact that it is hormonal. The drug certainly copes with the problem, but the effect is temporary. The doctor recommended excluding the child from contact with allergens. Now we are on the diet for the 2nd week. At the same time, problem areas of the skin are treated with Advantan. The porridges had to be selected very carefully: those containing sugar, gluten, and milk-based were not suitable.

Faina, 27 years old, Voskresensk

I'm very afraid of hormonal ointments. My son had dermatitis, but he managed to cope with it only with Naftaderm. In addition, we had to reconsider our diet and pay closer attention to the cleanliness and freshness of food. As they explained to me, the main idea is to eliminate the root cause, but simply getting rid of the symptoms is an ineffective and thankless task.

Use of Advantan for psoriasis

In the fight against this disease, various local drugs are used, both containing hormones and without them. Advantan is prescribed for psoriasis mainly in case of emergency, when the pathology is rapidly progressing. But the positive external effect of its use can be called fleeting, since in the absence of a complex effect it is unlikely that it will be possible to bring the pathological process to remission.

All types of psoriasis can be treated with Advantan. It can be used on any part of the body, including the face and scalp. The drug is applied externally to the affected areas of the skin once a day during the day. For vulgar psoriasis, accompanied by severe peeling, it is recommended to use a fatty ointment.

Advantan is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. It can also be used with virtually no restrictions in childhood, which makes the treatment of psoriasis safer.

The drug Advantan

According to the classification accepted in medicine, the drug Advantan belongs to glucocorticosteroids (GCS) for external use. These drugs reduce the severity of erythema, itching, swelling, and pain. This effect is achieved due to the active substance methylprednisolone aceponate. It acts in the outer layers of the skin and penetrates little into the systemic bloodstream.

Composition and release form

Advantan is available in four forms: ointment, fatty ointment, cream, emulsion. Their differences are shown in the table:

Cream Ointment Fatty ointment Emulsion
Description White opaque homogeneous substance Yellowish homogeneous opaque Translucent white or yellowish color White opaque
Concentration of methylprednisolone aceponate, mg per 1 g 1
Compound Decyloleate, water, glyceryl monostearate, butylated hydroxytoluene, cetostearyl and benzyl alcohols, softisan, tallow, disodium edetate, glycerol, macrogol stearate Water, white soft and liquid paraffins, beeswax, emulsifier Liquid and white soft paraffins, hydrogenated castor oil, microcrystalline wax Water, medium chain triglycerides, benzyl alcohol, glycerol, softisan, disodium edetate, polyoxyethylene-2 and -21 steryl alcohols
Package Aluminum tubes of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 50 g Aluminum tubes of 20 or 50 g

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The synthetic steroid is intended for external use. It suppresses inflammatory and allergic skin diseases, effects associated with increased proliferation. The hormonal drug leads to a reduction in the symptoms of inflammation: erythema, swelling, weeping. After repeated application of the product to 40-60% of the skin area or under an occlusive dressing, no dysfunction of the adrenal cortex is observed. In these cases, the level of the hormone cortisol in the blood plasma remains within normal limits, the circadian rhythm does not change, and the level of cortisol in daily urine does not decrease.

According to doctors, when using the medication for three months in adults and a month in children, no skin atrophy or the appearance of stretch marks or acne were detected. The mechanism of action of methylprednisolone aceponate is associated with its combination with intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. The resulting complex binds to sections of the DNA of immune cells, causing the induction of macrocortin synthesis. This substance inhibits the release of arachidonic acid and the formation of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and vasoconstriction by adrenaline leads to a vasoconstrictor effect (decreased blood flow). The degree of penetration of the drug through the skin depends on its condition, form and method of application, but even when applied to the entire body (for sunburn), the systemic dose is minimal and eliminates side effects. Hydrolysis of the active substance occurs in the dermis and areas of the epidermis, elimination (withdrawal) is carried out by the kidneys in 32 hours. Metabolites of the drug:

  • do not accumulate in the body;
  • do not affect the level of production of their own hormones.

Indications for use

Depending on the form of release of Advantan, its indications for use differ. For both types of ointment and cream, the main factors for use, according to the instructions, are:

  • atopic dermatitis, childhood eczema, neurodermatitis;
  • true, microbial, occupational, dyshidrotic eczema;
  • simple contact or allergic dermatitis, psoriasis;
  • for emulsion: inflammatory diseases sensitive to therapy with topical corticosteroids - all of the above plus seborrheic dermatitis and eczema, microbial eczema, solar dermatitis.

What does the drug help with?

Indications for the use of the drug are quite extensive. It is advisable to use cream or ointment for:

  • dermatitis (especially atopic), allergic dermatosis;
  • eczema (degenerative, dyshidrotic) from the first months of a child’s life.

The emulsion is an opaque liquid. Used for acute inflammatory skin processes:

  • atopic dermatitis (see also: good cream for atopic dermatitis in children);
  • eczema in a child - seborrheic, true, microbial.

The emulsion is easier to apply and more convenient for use in cases of severe pain, wet spots on the skin, etc. However, this form is less often used in children.

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of the drug Advantan, methylprednisolone aceponate, is a non-halogenated steroid. When used externally, Advantan suppresses inflammatory and allergic skin reactions, as well as reactions associated with increased proliferation, which leads to a reduction in objective symptoms of inflammation (including erythema, swelling, weeping) and subjective sensations (including itching , irritation, pain).

When methylprednisolone aceponate is used topically at the recommended dose, systemic exposure is minimal in both humans and animals. After repeated application of the drug Advantan to large surfaces (40–60% of the skin surface), as well as use under an occlusive dressing, no dysfunction of the adrenal glands is observed: the level of cortisol in plasma and its circadian rhythm remain within normal limits, and there is no decrease in the level of cortisol in daily urine .

During clinical studies using the drug Advantan for up to 12 weeks in adults and up to 4 weeks in children (including young children), the development of skin atrophy, telangiectasia, stretch marks and acne-like rashes was not detected.

Methylprednisolone aceponate (especially its main metabolite, 6α-methylprednisolone-17-propionate) binds to intracellular GCS receptors. The steroid receptor complex interacts with specific regions of the DNA of immune response cells, thereby causing a series of biological effects. For example, binding of the steroid receptor complex to DNA cells of the immune response leads to the induction of macrocortin synthesis. Macrocortin inhibits the release of arachidonic acid and thereby the formation of inflammatory mediators such as PG and LT.

GCS inhibition of the synthesis of vasodilating PGs and potentiation of the vasoconstrictor effect of adrenaline lead to a vasoconstrictor effect.

Contraindications

  • Diabetes;
  • mental illness;
  • epilepsy;
  • allergy to components;
  • viral skin diseases (chickenpox, shingles);
  • age up to 4 months;
  • skin manifestations of tuberculosis and syphilis;
  • perioral dermatitis in the area of application;
  • severe heart failure.

In emergency situations, glucocorticoids are administered without taking into account contraindications.

Release form and composition

The main active ingredient in the ointment is the glucocorticoid hormone methylprednisolone aceponate. This component has powerful anti-inflammatory and regenerating effects. They are noticeable after the first application of the drug to the affected areas of the skin. When Advantan comes into contact with healthy tissues, there is no negative effect on them.

Excipients vary depending on the form of release of the drug. Additional components of Advantan may be:

  • liquid paraffin;
  • soft paraffin;
  • white petroleum jelly;
  • microcrystalline wax;
  • castor oil, hydronized;
  • purified water;
  • E emulsifier.

The medicine is available in 4 forms. Each of them is prescribed for certain skin problems.

  1. Advantan ointment is fatty. This remedy is used if the skin is very dry and prone to cracking. The product not only treats the underlying disease, but also nourishes the problem area and promotes pronounced hydration and softening of the skin.
  2. Ointment. A classic remedy that is prescribed for dry skin if it is not prone to cracking. It is not as greasy as the previous one and has a lighter consistency.
  3. Cream. It is prescribed for weeping eczema and oily skin, as it has some drying effect. Also, the cream does not leave greasy marks on the body and does not stain clothes. The difference between ointment and cream is the different volume of fat and water bases, which is why they are used for different skin types.
  4. Emulsion. Indicated for the treatment of acute skin diseases in which severe inflammation is noted. The drug is often used in the treatment of sunburn. The maximum duration of use of the emulsion is 2 weeks, after which it must be replaced with ointment or cream depending on the skin type. If the problem is completely resolved, then there is no need to continue therapy with another form of the drug.

The drug must be prescribed by a doctor. You should not use a hormonal drug without permission, even if it is considered safe.

It is especially important to consult a doctor first when using the product in the treatment of children.

Compound

The main substance in the cream is methylprednisolone acetate in a ratio of 1 mg per 1 g of product. Additional substances: decyl oleate, glyceryl monostearate, cetostearyl alcohol (cetyl alcohol 60%, stearyl alcohol 40%), solid fat, softisan, macrogol stearate, glycerol 85%, disodium edetate, benzyl alcohol, butylated hydroxytoluene, purified water. The ointment also contains methylprednisolone acetate 0.1%.

Additional substances: white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, white beeswax, emulsifier Dehimuls E, purified water.

The oil-based ointment contains 0.1% methylprednisolone acetate. To create the dosage form, the following excipients are used: white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, microcrystalline wax, hydrogenated castor oil.

For 1 g of emulsion, 1 mg of methylprednisolone acetate is used as the active substance. Additional substances: medium chain triglycerides, softizan, polyoxyethylene-2-steryl alcohol, polyoxyethylene-21-steryl alcohol, glycerol 85%, disodium edetate, benzyl alcohol, purified water.

Indications for use

Advantan is produced on the basis of powerful substances, the use of which makes it possible to cope with dermatological pathologies. The drug is prescribed in case of fungal, infectious, allergic skin lesions of the initial, acute and chronic stages.

For adults

Adults are prescribed the medicine for inflammatory skin diseases, due to its wide range of effects.

What does the remedy help with:

  • eczema, dermatitis of any nature;
  • skin burns caused by ultraviolet radiation;
  • psoriasis;
  • peeling and drying of the skin;
  • acne;

This is not a complete list of conditions for which Advantan helps. The product effectively fights itching and rashes of any nature.

The emulsion is used for burns from ultraviolet radiation and photodermatitis.

For children (infants)

The list of indications for the use of the medication by children differs little from the adult list. Doctors prescribe Advantan for them if they have the following diseases:

  • neurodermatitis;
  • atopic, solar, allergic dermatitis;
  • microbial eczema.

The medicine is not dangerous for infants; you can safely smear the affected areas with the medicinal substance. Side effects are rare.

For children after one year

Babies over 1 year of age are prescribed Advantan if they have the same conditions as infants. The doctor only adjusts the dosage, and sometimes the schedule of use.

For pregnant women and during lactation

In the perinatal period, Advantan should be used with extreme caution, only after consulting a doctor. The annotation provides information on the use of the product by pregnant women

Usually the medicine is well tolerated by expectant mothers and does not have a toxic effect on the fetus.

Indications

Advantan ointment, according to the instructions for use, is used for children in cases of skin diseases of an allergic or inflammatory nature:

  • simple/allergic contact dermatitis;
  • atopic dermatitis;
  • neurodermatitis;
  • childhood eczema;
  • occupational eczema;
  • microbial eczema;
  • dyshidrotic eczema;
  • true eczema.

Advantan cream, according to the instructions for use, is used for children in the same cases, but with a lesser depth of damage.

In the form of an emulsion, Advantan is also used for seborrheic dermatitis/eczema, photodermatitis and sunburn.

How to use the cream

The duration of treatment depends on the degree of damage and the general course of the corresponding disease.

Doctors do not recommend long-term use

hormonal drug, since over time it is possible to develop side effects and not obtain the desired therapeutic effect.

The shelf life is 2 years from the date of production. After this period, use is strictly prohibited.

The drug should be stored at a temperature of 15–25 degrees in a dry, dark place out of reach of children. Confirmed data on overdose and interactions with other drugs have not been established.

The use of Advantan during pregnancy is not recommended. The drug can be prescribed only if the woman’s health is at risk and requires immediate treatment. During lactation, when using the cream, there is a risk of the substance entering the child’s body, so use is also not recommended

If necessary, it is important to exclude application sites in the mammary glands

The decision to use a medicine during pregnancy can only be made by the attending physician, who has studied in detail the characteristics of the course of the disease that has arisen and weighed the possible risks of developing negative consequences.

Advantan instructions for use recommend applying a thin layer to the affected area no more than 2-3 times throughout the day. Doctors most often prescribe a local drug, since it is less absorbed into the general bloodstream.

The use of cream for infants is prescribed for the development of atopic dermatitis

with a pronounced exacerbation of an allergic reaction to a number of environmental factors. The average duration of treatment is about 4 weeks. If there is no positive effect, the pediatrician should change the drug and try to identify the real cause of the disease and prescribe a more suitable medicine with a similar spectrum of action.

Overdose

Clinical trials at all levels of evidence did not reveal high toxicity of the drug, as well as cases of overdose. If the drug is used excessively often or for a long time, only pronounced side effects are observed. In such a situation, discontinuation of the drug is necessary.

If accidentally ingested, nausea may occur, which is largely due to the excipients.

Clinical trials on interactions with other drugs have not been conducted.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

SuctionThe intensity of absorption through the skin depends on the condition of the skin, the dosage form and the method of application (on an open area of skin or under an occlusive dressing).
When using an ointment, cream or fatty ointment, percutaneous absorption in adolescents and adults suffering from neurodermatitis and psoriasis was less than 2.5%, which was only slightly different from absorption through intact skin in healthy adult volunteers (0.5-1.5%). When using the drug in the form of an emulsion, absorption through skin with artificial inflammation was very low (0.27%) and slightly exceeded absorption through healthy skin (0.17%). Absorption through skin with the stratum corneum removed was significantly higher (15% of the dose). In case of treatment of the whole body (for example, for sunburn), the systemic dose is about 4 mcg/kg body weight/(which excludes systemic effects).
Metabolism and excretionMethylprednisolone aceponate is hydrolyzed in the epidermis and dermis.
The main and most active metabolite is 6 alpha-methylprednisolone-17-propionate, which has a significantly higher affinity for corticoid receptors in the skin, which indicates the presence of its bioactivation in the skin. After entering the systemic circulation, 6 alpha-methylprednisolone-17-propionate quickly conjugates with glucuronic acid and is thus inactivated. Metabolites of methylprednisolone aceponate (the main of which is 6 alpha-methylprednisolone-17-propionate-21-glucuronide) are excreted mainly by the kidneys, the half-life is about 16 hours. Methylprednisolone aceponate and its metabolites do not accumulate in the body.

Features of Advantan

The product is a non-halogenated synthetic steroid of the glucocorticosteroid group. Active components suppress inflammatory processes and block allergic reactions. Thanks to this, swelling, redness, peeling, itching, burning, irritation, and pain disappear. The drug eliminates objective symptoms and subjective sensations.

A special feature of the drug is the ability of the active component to concentrate at the site of inflammation, without having a systemic effect on the functioning of internal organs and systems. The components of the drug affect the functioning of cells. Block the release of histamines, eliminate allergic reactions, and relieve inflammation. They slow down the synthesis of leukotrienes and prostaglandins, which cause pain, burning, itching, and other unpleasant sensations.

Advantan can be applied to large areas of skin, about 60%. In this case, the concentration of active components in the blood is minimal. The drug does not affect the functioning of the adrenal glands, does not cause withdrawal syndrome, and can be used on different parts of the body. Clinical studies have shown the absence of skin atrophy, stretch marks, acne-like rashes, darkening of the epidermis with long-term use - in children up to 4 weeks, in adults up to 12.

Another feature of the modern product is its ability to hydrolyze in the cells of the epidermis. After entering the systemic circulation, the active component combines with hyaluronic acid, disintegrates, and is excreted by the kidneys. The liver is not involved in metabolism.

Analogs

If the patient has contraindications to Advantan, or the drug does not have the desired effect, the doctor selects drugs with a similar mechanism of action.
They differ in composition, price, and form of release. Effective analogues of Advantan.

Comfoderm. This is a domestically produced product, produced by the Akrikhin company. The medication is considered an absolute copy of Advantan. The only difference is in the additional components. The shelf life is 2 years, the cost ranges from 470-520 rubles. Triderm. The combined action agent, in addition to GCS, includes an antibiotic and an antimycotic. Presented in the form of an ointment and cream, it is indicated for dermatoses complicated by a secondary infection in persons over 2 years of age. It is prescribed to pregnant women. Price – from 650 to 720 rubles. Beloderm. The drug is considered a substitute for Advantan. The analogue has the active component betamethasone dipropionate. Due to it, it has an antipruritic, anti-inflammatory effect. The medication is approved for use in children from 6 months of age

It is prescribed with caution during the perinatal period and lactation. The average cost is 350 rubles.

Each of the analogues has similar contraindications and side effects with Advantan.

Reviews

Elena, 33 years old

Advantan is produced in the form of ointment and cream, we bought the cream. It gave a very good effect: allergic spots disappear quickly. But you should not abuse the drug, because it contains hormones.

The rash disappears quickly, but not for long. This is absolutely normal, because the ointment neutralizes only external manifestations, and the cause is hidden much deeper. Most often, this allergy comes from within, and until you find out what exactly causes it, no ointments will help for a long time. My child was allergic to an antibiotic, and only after stopping taking this medicine in addition to Advantan, everything went away completely.

I diluted the cream with Bepanten; if taken for a long time, it is also better to dilute the ointment. The remedy is good, but you still need to fight the cause, not the manifestations.

Vlada, 31 years old

One day I was very frightened by the appearance of a strange rash on a child. I thought it was a reaction to something in the food, but the spots got bigger and we ran to the doctor. A diagnosis of contact dermatitis was made and Advantan was prescribed.

I was shocked, because my relatives began to dissuade me, saying hormones, think about the child. However, there was no choice; they used this medicine. My daughter recovered quickly, and the hormones did not cause her any harm.

Suzanne, 29 years old

Recently my husband decided to surprise me - he gave me Revlon cream. To celebrate, I smeared myself with it at night, and in the morning... Fathers! There's a red dot all over my face. I went to a dermatologist, she prescribed me some drug, but it only made it worse.

I was already completely desperate, but a friend advised me to go to an allergist. I made an appointment with an allergist, so she prescribed Advantan for me and told me to apply a thin layer to my face every day. The ointment has a greasy texture, thanks to which it evenly covers the skin of the face. It is better to apply it at night, as oily shine spoils the appearance. After three days, the skin returned to normal color and the rash went away.

Tatyana, 23 years old

When my son developed red, rough spots on his cheeks at 3.5 months, the pediatric allergist prescribed him Advantan emulsion. After reading the instructions on the Internet, I decided not to use the drug for my child due to the presence of hormones in it. We tried Fenistil and other remedies, but they did not help. A week later there were no changes.

My son is bottle-fed and suggested that the formula could have caused the allergy. We tried replacing the diet, tried everything from Nstozhen to hypoallergenic highly adapted mixtures, but the rash only got worse. I could no longer watch the child suffer and decided to use Advantan.

I applied the emulsion at night before going to bed, and the improvement was noticeable already in the morning. The next day, the cheeks were smooth; only a few elements of the rash remained, which disappeared on the third day. Since then, rashes have not bothered us.

Polina, 26 years old

My daughter was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. When I noticed the first redness, I decided to cope with the “allergies” on my own. What we didn’t use: various creams, ointments, folk remedies. Nothing helped. We went to the clinic to see the local pediatrician, the doctor prescribed Advantan for us.

I anointed the baby’s butt and back at night before bed, and in the morning there was no more redness. To consolidate the result, I applied the ointment for two more days. The effectiveness of this ointment is undeniable, but the presence of hormones in its composition makes frequent and repeated use impossible, as it is addictive.

In other words, when you apply it, then it works. It is better to use this ointment rarely and for a short time, and in combination with some other means, then you will get a lasting and good result.

Expiration dates

  • 0.1% cream retains its therapeutic properties for three years from the date of release;
  • 0.1% ointment - three years, and oily - 5 years;
  • 0.1% emulsion – three years.

The instructions do not indicate how long the medication can be used after opening the tube. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on general standards:

  • After opening, the cream retains its therapeutic effect for one month;
  • Ointments in aluminum tubes (like Advantan) can be used for 6 months after initial opening;
  • The emulsion must be used within three months.

After the expiration date, the drug must be disposed of.

Is Advantan a hormonal drug?

Many people are interested in whether this drug contains ingredients identical to hormones. The main active ingredient in this external remedy is methylprednisolone aceponate. Application of the composition to the surface of the skin leads to the fact that this component reacts with certain receptors that are located in the lower layers of the epithelium.

This chemical reaction leads to a decrease in the severity of inflammatory processes and allergic reactions. Despite the fact that one gram of medicinal ointment contains only 0.1 percent methylprednisolone, this medication belongs to the group of hormonal drugs.

Price, conditions and shelf life

In accordance with the instructions, Advantan is stored in a dark, dry place. It is necessary to ensure that the medicine is not accessible to children. Storage temperature for ointments, creams and emulsions is room temperature, no higher than 25 degrees, for fatty ointments – no higher than 30 degrees. The shelf life for fatty ointment is 5 years, for other forms – 3 years.

Prices for the drug depend on the region and the pricing policy of the pharmaceutical chain. On average, Russian pharmacists sell a package of ointment (15 g) for 300-350 rubles. Emulsion and cream cost 500-550 rubles. If desired, you can replace Advantan with good analogues that are cheaper.

Advantan – hormonal or not?

This is a hormonal drug, since its active ingredient is a synthetic steroid hormone.

It is impossible to use such means uncontrollably, especially when it comes to treating children.

Having analyzed the benefits and harms of the drug for the body, the presence or absence of contraindications, the doctor, if necessary, will try to find a non-hormonal analogue of the drug for the young patient.

A list of glucocorticosteroid drugs is presented for review in this article.

Reviews of use for various dermatitis in adults

Dermatitis often occurs not only in children, but also in adults. Most often this is due to poor diet and consumption of excessive amounts of fatty foods, alcoholic beverages and sweets. This is a direct indication for the use of the drug, as confirmed by the instructions.

Reviews about Advantan ointment are positive. Almost all patients achieved perfectly smooth skin without signs of dermatitis or eczema.

A small proportion of dissatisfied patients express their dissatisfaction primarily with the fact that when the drug is discontinued, the rashes begin with the same intensity. This is easily explained: if you do not change your eating habits, dermatitis will never go away. To understand exactly what reason served as the trigger for the development of dermatitis, sometimes you have to undergo a full examination of the body. And if you simply use hormonal drugs and do not change your lifestyle, there is a high possibility that the manifestations of the skin disease will return with greater intensity after the end of the course of treatment.

Additional Information

The drug in question is used as part of the complex treatment of infectious diseases of bacterial and fungal etiology. When applying the composition to the face area, you should avoid getting the drug on the surface of the mucous membranes of the organs of vision. If such a situation develops, you should immediately rinse your eyes with warm running water.

A long course of treatment and uncontrolled use of the drug can lead to the development of glaucoma. When using Advantan, it is not recommended to distribute the ointment over a large area of skin. In this case, the risk of developing adrenal gland disorders increases significantly.

The shelf life of the drug is five years from the date of manufacture, subject to proper storage. It is recommended to store this drug at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.

The emergence of drug dependence on Advantan

Many patients are concerned about this point. The concept of “drug dependence” implies the fact that if the internal causes of skin problems have not been corrected, then after stopping the cream, dermatitis, eczema and neurodermatitis return again, and often even to an even larger area of the skin.

To prevent the disease from returning after a course of Advantana, you should adjust your diet, increase the tone of the immune system if necessary, and get rid of the source of stress.

How to use Advantan correctly? Standard mode

The drug is used exclusively externally. The standard regimen is to apply ointment, cream or emulsion once a day.

It is recommended to use a small amount of the drug. However, it should be enough to distribute over the entire affected surface. In this case, areas of healthy skin are not affected. Advantan can also be applied to the face.

The drug is also suitable for applying occlusive dressings. To do this, a small amount of ointment, greasy ointment, cream or emulsion should be applied to part of a sterile bandage or a piece of cotton wool. Then all this can be fixed with an adhesive plaster or bandage. This method of application allows you to create suitable temperature conditions for the wound.

Although the drug begins to act immediately, and improvements are already visible after the first days of use, it still needs to be used until the problem areas no longer exist. The maximum course duration for cream, fatty cream and ointment is 12 weeks. This applies to adults. For a child, the maximum course of treatment with Advantan is 4 weeks. The emulsion should not be used by patients for more than 14 days.

General information

Is Advantan a hormonal cream or not? The active substance of the drug in question is methylprednisolone aceponate, which is a local glucocorticosteroid. It binds to cellular receptors and suppresses the immune system's response to histamines in the blood, thereby eliminating allergic symptoms. Thus, Advantan allergy cream is a hormonal drug, so before using it, consultation with a dermatologist is required. This medicine has a predominantly local effect, such a minimal amount penetrates into the blood that with short-term use of the drug "Advantan" it can be ignored.

Spectrum of action

The medication in question is used in the treatment of dermatological diseases of various etiologies. Advantan is often prescribed as part of complex therapy for allergic diseases accompanied by the appearance of swelling. Indications for use of Advantan cream are as follows:

  • dermatitis having a contact, allergic or atopic form;
  • eczema having seborrheic, true, childhood or microbial form;
  • lichen, which has a pink form;
  • psoriasis and neurodermatitis;
  • sunburn.

The active ingredient of the ointment is the synthetic glucocorticosteroid methylprednisolone

Active ingredient: Advantan. Mechanism of action

The reason for the effectiveness and safety of the drug lies in its composition.
The only active ingredient in Advantan is methylprednisolone aceponate. This is a synthetic hormone belonging to the group of glucocorticosteroids. The mechanism of action of the drug lies in the ability of methylprednisolone aceponate and the substance into which it subsequently turns to bind to receptors inside cells corresponding to the nature of the active component. The resulting complex interacts with certain parts of the deoxyribonucleic acid of immune response cells.

All these processes trigger a series of biological reactions. For example, they promote the production of macrocortin. This substance prevents the formation of compounds that cause inflammation by suppressing the release of arachidonic acid, the progenitor of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

Thanks to the complex of the active component of the drug and receptors sensitive to it, the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for vasodilation, is also inhibited. Plus, methylprednisolone aceponate enhances the natural effect of endogenous adrenaline on humans. This also leads to vasoconstriction, that is, narrowing of blood vessels.

Advantan blocks cyclooxygenase, especially COX-2. By the way, many modern non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, for example, Movalis and Nise, have the same effect.

All this and a number of others explain the following effects of Advantan:

  • anti-inflammatory;
  • decongestant;
  • antiallergic;
  • immunosuppressive.

The complex of effects of the drug helps accelerate the healing process of wounds caused by illness or exposure to high temperatures. Advantan also prevents scars on the skin.

Advent calendar design

On the Internet you can find a huge number of different ideas for decorating a calendar with your own hands. Basically, advent calendars are designed so that for each day of waiting there is a small container in which you can put a small surprise for the child. The container can be pockets, drawers, socks, jars, cardboard houses, etc. If the gift does not fit in the box, you can put a note “Look for the gift under the pillow” or include a photo of the place where the gift is hidden. All containers are marked with numbers that correspond to the number of days remaining until the holiday.

Option 1

This year our advent calendar features a small town made of cardboard houses. These are mostly small one-story houses, but there are also two-story and even three-story buildings. To make small houses, I used templates found on the Internet, for variety I used different ones, here are the ones that I liked the most: template 1, template 2, template 3 I deliberately cut off the bottoms on all the templates, otherwise how would I get the gifts out of the houses if they were sealed? (Just in case, here are the same templates with bottoms). The layouts are printed on colored cardboard in A3 or A4 format, cut out, glued with PVA glue and you're done!

I made two- and three-story buildings according to the logic of template 2, only I changed the dimensions of the roof and walls. Also inside the two-story houses there are transverse cardboard partitions so that a gift from the 1st floor does not interfere with a gift from the 2nd floor

Option 2

Last year our advent calendar consisted of 10 gnomes based on cylinders. Generally speaking, Santa Clauses were originally intended, but my daughter considered them more similar to gnomes, and I agree with her.

I will briefly tell you about the process of making such gnomes (Santa Clauses). The cylinder is made of A4 colored cardboard, secured at the back with tape and a stapler. The bottom bottom is also made of cardboard and secured with a stapler. It’s not difficult to make a gnome’s face – all you need is colored paper, cotton wool and PVA glue. Well, on top, instead of a hat, there is an ordinary sock of an adult. Preferably bright, colorful and not too narrow, because... From sheet A4, cylinders are obtained with a fairly large diameter. On the side we sign a number indicating the number of days remaining until the New Year.

Option 3

And here is our 2019 waiting calendar. This is a town again but with significant changes. You can read more about it here.

Cheap analogues and substitutes and which one is better

There are no direct analogues of Advantan. Based on the characteristics of the development of the disease and the age of the patient, the doctor can recommend to the patient the remedy that will solve his problem faster and more effectively. It can be:

  • Akriderm (ointment, cream), Belogent – prescribed for children after one year of age (we wrote about the use of Belogent here);
  • Beloderm, Cutivate, Lokoid, Afloderm - suitable for six-month-old infants and older children; You will find indications and instructions for using Lokoid ointment and cream here.
  • Elidel - for babies from three months, when hormonal drugs are contraindicated;
  • Elokom (cream, lotion, ointment), Momat - used for patients at least two years old;
  • Pimafukort, Triderm - are most effective for fungal and bacterial dermatitis, as they contain antimicrobial components;
  • Sinaflan - copes well with itching due to psoriasis, from insect bites, allergies, for which Sinaflan ointment is also used, you will find out in this article;
  • Celestoderm - has a strong anti-inflammatory effect due to the presence of antibiotics in the ointment;
  • Fenistil - used for urticaria, reduces external manifestations of allergies, has analgesic properties;
  • Clotrimazole - helps against pathogenic fungi of various types, for example, with thrush;
  • Candida – relieves itching, effective in treating fungal infections;
  • Hydrocortisone (ointment) – treats itching, relieves inflammation, is often prescribed to patients diagnosed with contact dermatitis; You can find out what else Hydrocortisone ointment is used for in this article;
  • Flucinar - used against various types of dermatitis, age restriction - a ban on the use of the medicine for children under 2 years of age; We wrote more about the indications for use of Flucinar ointment here;
  • Fluorocort is a drug with a wide spectrum of effects, prescribed (under the supervision of a doctor) to expectant mothers;
  • Comfoderm - for eczema and dermatitis, for patients over 18 years of age.

Many people are usually concerned about the cost of the medicine recommended to them. If there is an opportunity for an adequate replacement, the doctor, of course, will suggest purchasing cheaper analogues of Advantan (its cost is from 330 to 500 rubles from different suppliers and sellers).

However, if the “understudy” is not able to solve the problem as effectively as Advantan, the cost of the drug should fade into the background; health is still more expensive.

Here's how much some relatively inexpensive ointments and creams cost

(for 15 gram tubes):

  • Akriderm -119 rub.,
  • Beloderm – 195 rub.,
  • Cutivate – 268 rub.,
  • Momat – 242 rub.,
  • Flucinar – 182 rub.,
  • Celestoderm – 208 rub.

Reviews on the use of ointment and cream in infants

Many infants suffer not only from atopic dermatitis, but also from allergies. Modern food products for babies - mixtures, juices, purees and cereals often contain preservatives, flavors and other substances that are intolerable to the child's body. What to do in such a situation? Young parents often give up because not a single remedy helps, and the rash spreads to larger areas of the face and body.

Advantan comes to the rescue. Reviews about the cream for babies are almost all positive. Already on the third or fourth day, the skin clears up and looks healthy. If there is any negativity in reviews of Advantan cream, it is associated, first of all, with the return of symptoms after discontinuation. To prevent this from happening, you should adjust the child’s diet, increase the tone of the immune system if necessary, get rid of the source of stress, and provide a calm and cozy atmosphere of love and warmth. Atopic dermatitis often occurs under stressful conditions and poor nutrition.

Reviews on the use of emulsion for sunburn and hypothermia

Advantan emulsion, which has significantly fewer reviews than cream and ointment, can be used to treat sunburn.

This question is especially relevant in the summer and during travel to hot countries for white-skinned people. If you apply the emulsion to the site of a sunburn, the pain goes away, and a pleasant moisture sensation is felt at the site of the pathology. Reviews report that people also use Advantan emulsion for the treatment of household burns and skin damage due to hypothermia. In both the first and second cases, the effect is excellent: the pain goes away, the epidermis is quickly restored. If the burn was second degree (with a blister and accumulation of ichor inside), then the emulsion allows for faster tissue healing.

The principle of action of the drug

After the composition of this medicine enters the inner layers of the skin, the active component begins to send a signal to steroid hormones. The adrenal cortex is responsible for the synthesis of these elements. The reaction of steroid hormones to an incoming signal is expressed in changes in certain sections of DNA, which leads to the activation of biological processes. These processes are expressed in reducing swelling, eliminating itching and other symptoms characteristic of allergies.

The instructions for using Advantan cream indicate that different dosage forms of this drug are used at different stages of the development of diseases of a dermatological nature. Cream and non-greasy ointment are used in the initial stages of the development of the disease, when the pathology does not yet have acute forms of manifestation.

Advantan fatty ointment is used in the treatment of chronic diseases. The main characteristic difference of this dosage form is its mild effect on the lesions. Many experts recommend using this form of the drug to eliminate flaking. Applying the medicine to the skin helps create a protective film that protects the affected dermis from external irritants. In addition, such a film prevents the addition of a secondary infection and an increase in lesions. Thanks to these properties, Advantan is classified as a drug with an anti-inflammatory effect.

When choosing a dosage form, it is necessary to take into account factors such as the degree of damage to the skin and the stage of development of the disease. Only on the basis of the above factors is the selection of the required form of Advantan made.

Reviews of use for atopic dermatitis in infants

Most parents use Advantan to treat atopic dermatitis in babies from four to twelve months according to the following scheme:

  • Apply a thin layer of cream to the skin previously cleansed with a damp cotton pad;
  • even if there are wounds with ichor, the cream will not cause pain when applied, so you should try to massage it lightly;
  • repeating the procedure two to three times a day is quite enough.

If you apply the product too often, the therapeutic effect will not increase. In some cases, even one application is sufficient (if the symptoms of atopic dermatitis in the baby are not too pronounced).

Reviews of Advantan for children from four months to two years are enthusiastic. Often this is the only remedy that allowed parents to get the effect of clear facial skin. Before this, not a single folk remedy, not a single pharmaceutical cream, gave such an effect. This can be achieved by a hormonal component in the cream, ointment and emulsion - a glucocorticoid, which has the ability to stop the inflammatory process in the epidermis and suppress allergic reactions and those associated with increased proliferation.

DIY Advent calendars - ideas for inspiration + my 2 cents ;)

There are only a few days left until December 1st, but you still have time to make an advent calendar for your children! There are a great many of them, but I have collected here cute, beautiful and very easy to implement ideas!

As you know, the advent calendar offers a little surprise every day until the New Year (i.e. in the Russian version, gifts are given until December 30 inclusive, and 31 are given for New Year's gifts, in the foreign version there are 24).

Of course, most often they make a classic advent calendar in the form of pockets with numbers sewn onto the base fabric. In the same form, calendars can be found on sale.

I have collected here options for calendars that can be made from scrap materials with minimal time, money and effort, but not at the expense of quality and, most importantly, beauty! And how happy the children will be!

Gifts in packaging

The simplest thing is to wrap pre-purchased gifts in beautiful wrapping paper, tie them with strings and hang them somewhere. The child should cut off a gift for himself every morning. Of course, such a calendar is suitable for older children who will be able to restrain themselves from looking at all the gifts at once! ;)

Gifts can be wrapped not only in paper, but also in bags specially sewn for this purpose. In this case, the bags can be used for more than one year

Or you can buy socks in New Year's colors and stuff gifts in them!

Recycling

Other great ideas for upcycling items are to place gifts in disposable cups, toilet paper rolls, tin cans…. All these containers can and should be decorated with stickers, paper, multi-colored tape, etc. You can also use them to lay out some kind of structure - a tower, for example, or a Christmas tree

In my opinion, the temptation to open all the gifts at once is very great, at least for preschoolers!;) I wanted to give Ulyana notes that would say where to get a gift and some other task, for example, or just a task (“kiss mom,” “decorate the Christmas tree”). When I was a child, my mother hid gifts and left notes, and I loved to use them to find things! It was so sweet to find her. In search of ideas, I chose some simple options that I post below. The main idea is that gifts are not hidden in such a calendar, but only notes with instructions are left!

You can hang or put beautiful envelopes-bags. There are a lot of design options

By the way, making an envelope is very simple:

Or like this

I really like this idea with matchboxes!

You can not bother with envelopes, but make mini-cards from multi-colored paper or even use stationery leaves

You can also cut out New Year's motifs from bright paper - bells, Christmas trees, stars, socks

Here's another cool idea! Every day you need to cut off a strip with a number from Santa Claus’s beard, and on the reverse side read the task and the location of the gift.

And I think the coolest idea is the printed house templates!!! This is such room for creativity! You can build an entire New Year's diorama, as is customary in Europe and America. In general, enjoy! According to the rules of the site, I cannot give direct links, but I have diagrams or templates for all these houses. you can find them yourself using Google Images (download a picture and then upload it in the Google Images search) or write me the house number and your email - I will send you the links!

1. This is the town:

2. These are the houses with opening windows that contain surprises. You can put a tiny note in such windows or write the desired text directly on the printout. There are only 4 houses, one house for each week.

3. 25 houses like this. Nothing opens for them, but the text can be written on the bottom of the house

And now my “gag”: maybe someone will find my ideas useful

This is our version of the calendar.;) The envelopes are made from colored and plain paper, which I buy for Ulyana for drawing. I also bought a set of three rolls of wrapping paper at IKEA, very, very inexpensive! I cut out blanks for envelopes using a self-polishing template and glued the envelopes with double-sided tape. The envelopes contain notes indicating where to find the next gift.

I made stickers using a shaped hole punch and self-adhesive paper and wrote numbers on them

I already wrote about letters in the interior of a children’s room, where I told you that I built a gallery of Ulyana’s drawings by gluing clothespins to the wall

So I took off all the drawings and hung a thread there with envelopes strung on it

Now, starting December 1, we will open the envelope and see what is in the note. I bought self-adhesive paper in the children's craft department; it is not wildly sticky, so the stickers peel off easily without tearing the envelope. The gifts are all simple and inexpensive. The only large toy is a star for the Christmas tree; it costs no more than 200 rubles in Children’s World. In addition to just gifts that you can go and play right away, there will be task gifts. For example, in one of the envelopes I put the task: “Dress up the Christmas tree. To do this, look in the closet” - Ulyana will find this star and a box with a Christmas tree there. Naturally, on this day we will decorate the Christmas tree.

Another envelope contains an assignment to write a letter to Santa Claus. To do this, I made a writing set: I drew out plain paper and covered it with stickers, and made an envelope similar to small envelopes. Ulyana will dictate the text to me, and I will write. Then we will send this letter together at Children’s World - they put a large colorful box there with the inscription “Mail from Santa Claus.”

There will also be 2 designer gifts that you will need to assemble yourself. I made them from the remains of Fimo Soft self-hardening clay. This snowman will need to be completely assembled, put on a hat and scarf, give him a broom in his hands and draw a face (all the details are mounted on a toothpick coated with glue, the broom is made from a skewer and twigs from a broom, the hat and scarf are sewn from Ulyana’s sock. Then the details painted with acrylic paint and covered with glossy varnish)

And the gingerbread man will need to glue the details of the face, buttons and thread the ribbon into the loop - you will get a toy for the Christmas tree

Another task is to decorate the windows with stained glass. I made them from volumetric outlines for fabric (you can take stained glass paints from children's sets or any volumetric outline). I don’t have a printer, so I found the pictures I needed on the Internet, attached them to the laptop screen and drew an outline using a file. Left it to dry overnight

And in the morning...))

I also made a small gingerbread house. The “glaze” on the roof is made of a white three-dimensional contour. A small battery-powered light bulb or flashlight is inserted inside the house and you get a lamp

I also sculpted something from a homemade self-hardening modeling compound (I already wrote about it). These are the hedgehogs I saw on the Internet once, they seemed to be ceramic. I painted them with children's watercolors and varnished them

Mushrooms (same technology)

Strawberries

And I made these miniature vegetables from children's self-hardening modeling mass, it is so light and airy after drying

All! )

For small children or if you don’t have time, you can make an advent calendar not for 31 days, but, for example, for 15, 10 or even 5. In any case, the child will be very pleased to receive little surprises every day. In addition, he will clearly see when the New Year comes - the fewer envelopes, the fewer days left, or the New Year will come on the day when the last envelope is opened!

Reviews from dermatologists about the action of Advantan and its analogues

Doctors, who daily have to prescribe treatment to dozens of people with skin diseases, recognize Advantan as the number one remedy for dermatitis. The versatility of the drug makes it possible to prescribe it not only to adults, but also to children and adolescents.

Reviews of Advantan analogues are positive. But in some cases, substitutes are more expensive. "Advantan" is the optimal product in terms of price-quality ratio.

List of analogues and substitutes for the drug:

  • "Sinoderm";
  • "Akriderm";
  • "Kutivate";
  • "Beloderm".

An almost complete structural analogue of Advantan is Elokom. It has a fairly high concentration of hormonal components. Indicated for the treatment of children over two years of age. It has more side effects due to the concentration of the active substance.
