Erespal - instructions for use, analogs, reviews and release forms syrup, tablets 80 mg of the drug for the treatment of cough, hoarseness and sore throat in adults, children and pregnancy

Erespal is a drug with expectorant properties. It is available in the form of tablets and syrup. There are many reviews about Erespal (including from Dr. Komarovsky), but not all of them are positive. That is why it is worth understanding this issue in more detail.

Please note that the Erespal medication has been proven to be harmful and the editors of the Vospitul website under no circumstances recommend taking it. Information about the medicine is presented for informational purposes.

Erespal for children - what does Komarovsky say?

A well-known pediatrician is skeptical about the drug, as well as other mucolytic drugs. He categorically does not recommend giving it to children under one year old, and especially to infants. Evgeny Komarovsky claims that to date, the effectiveness of expectorant medications has not been scientifically proven. They are needed, rather, for the psychological comfort of the parents than for the health of the baby.

You can also achieve phlegm discharge by rinsing the nose, providing moist air in the room, frequent walks in the fresh air, and drinking plenty of fluids. You can also read other recommendations if your child has a stuffy nose - see here. The drug contains several types of additives that can cause an allergic reaction. If your baby develops a cough, it is better to immediately contact a competent specialist and not prescribe him medications yourself.

Erespal is produced by a French pharmaceutical company. This is a proven and reliable supplier, as in many other imported medicines. The price of the drug seems high, which is why it is possible to search for analogues of the drug containing fenspiride. Similar drugs include: Fenspiride, Erispirus, Codestim, Fosidal and others. When selecting an effective drug, it is recommended not to focus on prices, since drugs of lower cost may be inferior in quality. Other antitussive drugs can hardly replace Erespal, since they do not have an antihistamine and antispasmodic effect.

The drug is sold in pharmacies with a prescription. Erespal is stored at room temperature. The shelf life of the tablets is 3 years. The syrup retains its properties for 2 years.

Contraindications

Erespal in the form of syrup should not be given to children under 2 years of age, in the form of tablets - up to 18 years of age. Before use, you must carefully read the composition. If the baby is allergic to one of the components, the drug cannot be used. The syrup contains sucrose; it should not be drunk if you are intolerant to fructose or have a deficiency of sucrose. This is exactly what Komarovsky emphasizes in his reviews and videos about Erespal.

special instructions

Often patients have a question about whether Erespal is an antibiotic or not.
In fact, treatment with Erespal cannot replace antibiotic therapy. Therefore, if necessary, an additional antibiotic is prescribed. People with diabetes are prescribed the drug in tablets, since the syrup contains sucrose.

Due to the presence of sunset yellow in syrup, people with intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid, as well as other NSAIDs, may develop bronchospasm.

No studies have been conducted that would allow conclusions to be drawn about the effect of Erespal on the ability to drive vehicles and work with precision mechanisms. However, drowsiness may occur when using it, especially if the drug is combined with sedatives or alcohol. It should be noted that such a combination may lead to a reaction disorder.

The drug is not able to replace antibiotic therapy.

Therefore, your doctor may prescribe additional antibiotics.

For diabetes mellitus, Erespal is prescribed in tablet form, since the syrup contains sucrose.

It also includes Sunset Yellow. If a person suffers from intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid, then after taking it there is a possibility of developing bronchospasm.

It is not known for certain whether, after taking Erespal, it is allowed to work with important mechanisms or drive a vehicle, since such studies have not been conducted.

Erespal is not an antibiotic, so for bacterial diseases this remedy cannot replace them. That is why, if necessary, the doctor should prescribe additional treatment.

Is Erespal or Askoril better?

Ascoril is a combined Indian medicine that is available in syrup and tablets. The medicine is used for coughs with sputum that is difficult to separate. Syrup is allowed from birth, tablets from 6 years. The active components dilute mucus, promote its evacuation from the respiratory tract, and dilate the bronchi. The mucolytic is contraindicated in cases of allergies to its components, ulcers, glaucoma, problems with the thyroid gland, kidneys, liver and heart, diabetes mellitus that cannot be controlled with medications. Ascoril can cause urine staining, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions, seizures, tremors, and dyspepsia.

Despite all the shortcomings, Askoril looks much better than Erespal.

Contraindications to the use of Erespal syrup

The medicine Erespal is considered a rather powerful and aggressive composition, but it has very few contraindications. First of all, it is not recommended to carry out treatment if you have an individual intolerance to some components. If an unpredictable reaction occurs in the body, it is better to stop using the composition in advance.

Another prohibition is age. Children who have not yet turned 2 years old should definitely use other means against cough - the effect of active ingredients on a small organism can cause unpleasant consequences. The medicine is not recommended for use by patients suffering from diabetes mellitus, since it contains sucrose, which is contraindicated for this disease.

Treatment with certain medications from the pharmacy can also be considered contraindications. Erespal does not communicate well with everyone, and if treated incorrectly, chemical reactions can occur that cause considerable harm to health or cause dangerous side effects.

If the use of the composition goes without errors, contraindications have been carefully studied, side effects occur extremely rarely. The most common among them are:

  1. allergic reactions (redness of the skin, profuse rashes, itching, burning);
  2. stomach and intestinal disorders;
  3. the appearance of diarrhea, prolonged constipation;
  4. severe drowsiness, lethargy, apathy;
  5. swelling.

The first warning sign should be the reason for immediate cessation of treatment and contacting a doctor.

What advantages does the drug Erespal have, for which cough, dry or wet, is it used most effectively, and how does it differ from similar formulations? Before starting treatment, you definitely need to understand these features - this will help you quickly get rid of painful coughing attacks.

Fluditek or Erespal which is better for a child?

Fluditec is a French drug that contains carbocisteine as its main component. The medicine is a mucolytic and expectorant. It promotes the removal of mucus from the respiratory tract and secretion from the paranasal sinuses. In a suitable form of release, the drug can be used in patients over 2 years of age with diseases of the respiratory system, middle ear, to prepare the bronchopulmonary system for bronchoscopy and x-ray examination. The medication should not be taken if you have a peptic ulcer or hypersensitivity to its ingredients. Taking a mucolytic may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, bloating, internal bleeding, allergies, dizziness, and impotence.

This drug has too long a list of adverse reactions, but compared to Erespal, it looks quite safe. We don't recommend any of them.

Price and analogues

Since Erespal is an imported drug, its price is quite high. A 150 ml bottle of syrup can be purchased for 250-300 rubles.

Rengalin cough syrup

The cost depends on the pricing policy of the seller. It is most profitable to buy Erespal in an online pharmacy (apteka.ru). Here you can buy syrup for 225-250 rubles. Analogues of Erespal are shown in the table below.

Is it better to give Prospan or Erespal to a child?

Prospan is a German herbal preparation, the therapeutic effect of which is explained by ivy extract. It is available in syrup, solution for oral administration and inhalation. The herbal medicine has a mucolytic and expectorant effect, eliminates bronchospasm. In syrup, the medicine can be given from birth for diseases of the bronchopulmonary system, which are accompanied by a cough with viscous, thick, poorly separated sputum. Oral drops can be taken from the age of one, but inhalations due to the risk of laryngospasm are allowed only from 2 years. The herbal medicine can cause allergies. If you choose between Prospan or Erespal, we would recommend Prospan, but it is better to consult a doctor.

Application of Erespal

Erespal is an anti-inflammatory drug that has an antitussive and mucolytic effect at the same time. It seems that these concepts are incompatible. In order to figure out who and for what type of cough this drug is suitable, you should know the mechanism of its action.

Mechanism of action of Erespal

Erespal appeared on the Russian pharmaceutical market in 1998. The active ingredient of the drug is fenspiride. This drug is intended for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract of any etiology.

Erespal affects the following parts of inflammation:

  • reduces the production of all inflammatory mediators;
  • reduces the release of histamine and cytokines;
  • reduces the permeability of the vascular wall of the bronchus;
  • has an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the bronchi;
  • increases the rate of mucus removal from the respiratory tract.

The result is:

  • reducing swelling of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract;
  • normalization of sputum production;
  • improvement of its discharge;
  • reduction of cough;
  • preventing the development of bronchial hypersensitivity;
  • inhibition of irreversible changes in the respiratory tract.

Erespal is an α-adrenergic receptor antagonist and reduces the severity of bronchospasm. This effect is especially useful for cough variants of bronchial asthma.

Fenspiride does not belong to either steroidal or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, therefore it does not have the side effects characteristic of these groups.

Who can be prescribed fenspiride?

Erespal is indicated for almost all diseases of the respiratory tract associated with the inflammatory process (septic and aseptic). It is prescribed for the following diagnoses:

  • pharyngitis, laryngitis;
  • tracheitis;
  • bronchitis (acute, chronic);
  • bronchial asthma;
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;
  • flu;
  • whooping cough, measles;
  • any diseases of the respiratory system accompanied by cough.

Erespal is available in the form of tablets and syrup. Due to the minimal side effects, fenspiride can be used in newborns.

It is known that ARVI practically does not require the use of antibiotics, so folk remedies are often used to relieve symptoms. But they act for a short time, and they are not recommended for children at all. Cough causes a lot of discomfort to the patient. This is why prescribing an anti-inflammatory drug would be very appropriate. Erespal's studies have shown not only its effectiveness, but also the safety of use in all age categories.

For what type of cough should Erespal be used?

There are two types of cough - dry and wet. Their treatment differs in the choice of group of drugs. For dry cough, antitussive drugs are mainly prescribed (Falimint, codeine-based drugs, Tusuprex, etc.).

A wet cough is treated by liquefying and removing sputum, so mucolytic and expectorant agents are used (ambroxol, bromhexine, marshmallow, acetylcysteine, carbocysteine, pectusin, licorice, etc.).

Hypersensitivity and irritation of cough receptors with a dry cough, viscous, difficult to separate sputum with a wet one - all this is the result of an inflammatory process in the respiratory tract. That is, the drugs are symptomatic, and Erespal can be classified as pathogenetic. It can be used for both dry and wet coughs.

For dry cough, Erespal reduces the sensitivity of cough receptors to irritation, reduces swelling of the mucous membrane, thereby preventing the onset of symptoms.

With a wet cough, it normalizes sputum production. Its quantity decreases and the viscosity decreases. In addition, by activating the work of the cilia of the respiratory tract epithelium, Erespal promotes faster excretion of secretions.

Conclusion

The drug Erespal entered the Russian pharmaceutical market quite a long time ago. During this time, he managed to undergo many clinical trials that proved its effectiveness and safety. Erespal can be used for any type of cough, since it affects not the symptom itself, but its cause. The drug has an anti-inflammatory effect on the respiratory tract due to its combined versatile action. It is suitable for adults and children (from the first days of life) with acute respiratory infections, ARVI, bronchial asthma, obstructive pulmonary disease, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, bronchiolitis and other diseases.

Erespal or ACC, which is preferable for a child?

ACC is a mucolytic; the drug contains acetylcysteine as its main component. The medication can be given in the form of syrup and 100 mg tablets to patients over 2 years of age for diseases that are accompanied by a wet cough. The drug helps to liquefy mucus and clear the respiratory tract from it. ACC can also be used for inflammation of the paranasal sinuses and ears, and also as an antidote for paracetamol poisoning. In addition to dosage forms for oral administration, the mucolytic is available in an injection solution for injection into a vein and muscle, which is allowed from birth. ACC is prohibited for patients with hypersensitivity to its substances, gastrointestinal ulcers, or bleeding from the lung. Due to treatment, they may experience allergies, bronchospasm, shortness of breath, fever, weakness, dyspepsia, ringing in the ears, and bleeding.

Based on recent events, ACC is clearly winning, but it must be taken carefully and only with the permission of a doctor!

Indications

Due to its special mechanism of action, Erespal has a wide range of indications. Traditional cough medications are used for dry coughs. Expectorants - when wet. And the active ingredient Erespal (fenspiride) treats any type of cough, regardless of its origin and type. Erespal is able to reduce the production of thick mucus and reduce the severity of inflammation. This ability is widely used by ENT doctors; they prescribe Erespal for pathology of the nasopharynx.

Indications for the use of erespal tablets are diseases of both the upper and lower respiratory tract, among them:

  • bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (as one of the drugs in a complex treatment regimen);
  • rhinopharyngitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose and pharynx);
  • inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, including sinusitis, sinusitis and others;
  • laryngitis (inflammatory process in the vocal cords);
  • inflammation of the trachea and bronchi (tracheobronchitis);
  • inflammation of the bronchi (bronchitis);
  • cough, tickling or hoarseness due to various infectious diseases, including whooping cough,
  • influenza and measles;
  • otitis media, regardless of its origin.

Additionally, Erespal, together with other drugs, is actively used as part of combined treatment regimens for a large number of infectious diseases accompanied by cough. Often, tablets are prescribed by a doctor for pneumonia, pleurisy and other respiratory tract pathologies.

At the same time, the use of erespal definitely helps speed up recovery and alleviate the course of the disease.

Is it better to give Erespal or Rengalin to a child?

Rengalin is a Russian homeopathic drug that is commercially available in lozenges and oral solution. The product can be taken from 3 years of age for diseases accompanied by bronchospasm, dry and wet cough. Rengalin should not be taken if you are intolerant to its components, as this can cause allergies. You can read more about Rengalin here.

Due to the fact that the benefits of homeopathic medicines have not been proven, and Erespal is harmful to the child’s body, we cannot recommend either one or another cough remedy.

Release forms and composition (active ingredient)

Erespal is produced in the form of a clear syrup, which contains 2 mg/ml fenspiride hydrochloride (0.2 g per 100 ml of product). The auxiliary role in the composition is played by natural honey, water, alcohol, licorice root extract, vanillin tincture, glycerol, sucrose and water.

There is also a solid dosage form of the drug, which is produced by a joint French-Russian company. The content of fenspiride in Erespal tablets is 80 mg, the auxiliary components are povidone, calcium hydrogen phosphate, anhydrous colloidal silica, magnesium stearate.

The active substance reduces the influence of conditions under which bronchial obstruction develops, while simultaneously exhibiting anti-inflammatory activity.

Fenspiride reduces the production of cytokines and other factors in the body associated with the development of inflammation in the respiratory tract and bronchospasm. The medicine has an H1-antihistamine effect. The drug has the ability to reduce the active secretion of secretions in the bronchi by blocking alpha-adrenergic receptors.

What is better Ambrobene or Erespal for children?

Ambrobene is a mucolytic and expectorant that is produced in Germany. The therapeutic effect of the drug is explained by ambroxol, which can be used for wet cough from the first days of life. It is contraindicated in cases of intolerance to its components and gastrointestinal ulcers. Taking a mucolytic may cause allergies, dyspepsia, headache, rhinitis, and problems with urination. Ambrobene may cause dry mouth. Therefore, we do not recommend either medicine.

Interactions with other drugs and contraindications

Erespal and ACC

Quite often, doctors prescribe simultaneous use of ACC and Erespal. But can these drugs be taken together?

If you look at the instructions, you can see that these cough remedies have almost the same indications for use.

Acetylcysteine is a substance obtained from the amino acid L-cysteine, which takes an active part in the main processes of tissue and cell formation. Let's consider the main properties of this substance:

  • has an anti-inflammatory effect;
  • creates the body's defense against toxic substances;
  • strengthens the immune system;
  • participates in the synthesis of glutathione, which helps remove harmful substances from the body.

ACC can only be used for wet coughs! The drug cannot be combined with cough suppressants!

Studies conducted on the drugs Erespal and ACC have shown that both drugs are safe and have a minimal number of side effects. Therefore, the simultaneous use of these drugs, which will enhance the effect of each other, is allowed. It has been proven that the use of ACC and Erespal almost doubles the speed of recovery.

Erespal and Mucoltin

Is it possible to take Erespal and Mucaltin at the same time? To answer this question, let’s consider what properties Mucaltin has.

Mucaltin has an expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect. The drug helps to liquefy mucus and remove it from the inflamed area.

The medication is indicated for use against dry as well as wet coughs with mucus. If the cough is dry, the drug thins the mucus, and if it is wet, it helps to quickly remove mucus.

Mucaltin is prescribed for bronchitis, pneumonia, tracheitis, asthma, tuberculosis. But since its action is aimed at sputum, the drug cannot defeat these diseases on its own. Therefore, it is recommended to take it with Erespal, as well as with antibiotics.

Compliance with certain rules will make it possible to enhance the effect of the compatibility of Erespal and Mucaltin. Before using these drugs, it is recommended to conduct a general blood test, as well as fluorography. If the presence of a pathology in the lungs or bronchi, in which mucus accumulates in them, is confirmed, the simultaneous use of Erespal and Mucaltin is prescribed.

According to doctors, the effectiveness of therapy directly depends on how soon these drugs were used. It is better if they begin to be used from the very beginning of the disease.

Contraindications

Erespal is considered a safe drug. However, there are contraindications to its use. There are only two of them: individual intolerance to the active substance and other components of the drug, as well as the age of young patients under 2 years.

As you can see, the drug Erespal can be used for different types of cough in both adults and children. But only the doctor decides whether the medicine can be taken with other drugs. Remember that self-medication is dangerous to health and even life!

Sinekod or Erespal, which is better for a child?

Sinekod is an antitussive drug that is available in syrup and drops. As the main component, the medication contains butamirate, which suppresses the cough center located in the medulla oblongata. Sinekod in drops can be used by patients older than 2 months, syrup - from 3 years with a dry cough that does not produce sputum. The medication is recommended for cough suppression during surgery and examination of the respiratory system with a bronchoscope. Read more about Sinekod here.

Sinekod is not dangerous to the health of children, so it is better to choose this particular medicine.

Description of Erespal

Erespal is a medicine available in the form of tablets for adults and syrup for children starting from the age of two.

Erespal is based on the active substance - fenspiride. One tablet contains 80 mg, and 1 ml of syrup contains 2 mg of fenspiride. Erespal syrup also includes licorice root extract. Pleasant taste and bright color are provided by vanilla-honey flavors and dyes. Such an attractive composition has a downside - an allergic reaction to its components often occurs, which limits the use of Erespal.

According to the instructions for the drug Erespal, it can help with a wide range of problems:

  • inflammation of the throat (laryngitis, rhinopharyngitis);
  • bronchitis;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • cough and sore throat during respiratory infectious diseases, whooping cough, influenza, measles;
  • otitis media;
  • sinusitis.

Erespal has a complex effect: it expands the lumen of the bronchi, suppresses the inflammatory process, accelerates the restoration of mucous membranes, and relieves swelling. Erespal reduces the production of pathogenic sputum. Under the influence of the medicine, existing mucus is more easily removed from the bronchi and lungs.

It is advisable to prescribe Erespal for both wet and dry cough. For example, giving Erespal to a child with a dry cough is good because of a noticeable decrease in the cough reflex already on the first day of treatment. Erespal quickly transforms a non-productive cough into a wet one and promotes rapid recovery. On the other hand, Erespal, when a child has a wet cough, helps to cough more effectively and quickly cope with inflammation in the respiratory system.

What to choose Lazolvan or Erespal?

Previously, Erespal more effectively fought inflammation, and Lazolvan – with sputum discharge. The latter drug is prescribed to patients who have a wet cough. Is it possible to take Erespal and Lazolvan at the same time? There are no contraindications, but only a pediatrician can prescribe a joint dose, since they must be taken according to a certain schedule. Moreover, such a need does not arise often. In most cases, you can get by with just one medication or no medication at all.

All of these drugs are different from Erespal, and after its harm has been proven, the doctor must decide which medicine is best to take, since depending on the type of cough, treatment should be different and only a specialist can accurately diagnose and select an adequate dosage regimen.

Three effects of Erespal tablets and syrup

The medicine has three main effects on the body:

  1. Antispasmodic.
  2. Anti-inflammatory.
  3. Antiallergic.

The active substance fenspiride prevents spasm of bronchial smooth muscles, which leads to obstruction during inflammation. The release of fluid (exudate) into tissues and cavities from small blood vessels also slows down significantly. This response occurs due to inhibition of the production of biologically active substances - histamine, bradykinin, serotonin. Due to the suppression of their secretion, swelling of the mucous membranes and vascular permeability are reduced. Therapy leads to a decrease in cough, runny nose, and pain.

In addition to inhibiting arachidonic acid derivatives, the drug blocks α-adrenergic receptors, which respond to adrenaline and norepinephrine - hormones responsible for vasoconstriction, blood pressure, and the production of bronchial secretions. Thus, treatment with the drug leads to the suppression of hypersecretion of inflammatory factors, stopping the development of inflammatory reactions and bronchospasm. As a result, viscous sputum thins, gas exchange in the lungs normalizes, and breathing improves.

Indications for use

Sometimes parents check with their doctor whether Erespal syrup is an antibiotic or not? Erespal is not an antibacterial drug ; it has an anti-inflammatory effect and is prescribed for the following diseases:

  • For the treatment of bronchitis caused by infection or allergens, which is accompanied by respiratory failure.
  • For the treatment of cough of unknown origin, which is accompanied by the discharge of a large volume of sputum.
  • In the complex treatment of respiratory diseases that occur with a severe cough.

This drug is approved for use in all patient groups, including children, pregnant and lactating women.

A special feature of this drug is that it significantly reduces the volume of sputum produced.

Dosage form

Erespal for cough entered the market about 10 years ago. As soon as it began to be sold in pharmacies, it gained popularity among otolaryngologists and therapists. This effective medicine is prescribed for respiratory diseases to relieve cough attacks, quickly transition to a wet cough and improve sputum discharge. For which cough to take the drug, what dosage to take - your doctor will tell you.

What is the difference between Erispirus and Erespal?

"Erespal" is an analogue of the drug "Erispirus", similar to it in composition and mechanism of action. Erispirus and Erespal have identical composition, as well as release form. The distinctive features of the drugs are that they are only produced by a pharmaceutical company from Slovenia. "Erispal" is produced by a Belgian company and is more expensive than "Erispirus", its cost is about 480 rubles. However, most doctors prefer to prescribe Erespal, claiming that it has the highest anti-inflammatory quality.

Side effects

The drug is well tolerated by adults and children and practically does not provoke a negative reaction to fenspiride. However, some patients may experience adverse reactions to the use of the drug.

  • With a severe allergic reaction, patients may develop angioedema, Quincke's edema, which requires immediate use of an antihistamine.
  • On the part of the central nervous system, the negative effect of the drug can manifest itself as drowsiness and dizziness.
  • From the gastrointestinal tract, pain in the epigastric region, vomiting or diarrhea may be observed; the skin reaction is characterized by a rash and erythema.
  • The cardiovascular system may respond with a decrease in blood pressure and tachycardia.

Occasionally, the drug may cause increased fatigue. An overdose of the medicine when taken correctly is impossible, but if this happens, you must contact the clinic.

Contraindications, side symptoms, overdose

Erespal syrup is recognized as one of the safest products, as it has a minimal list of restrictions.

Side effects of cough medicine

The drug is well tolerated by patients. In rare cases, adverse reactions occur, complaints of drowsiness and increased fatigue appear. When using the product, you need to take into account all possible side effects that are indicated in the instructions.

Possible adverse reactions:

  • dizziness, drowsiness,
  • vomiting, intestinal upset,
  • epigastric pain, nausea,
  • rash, urticaria, erythema pigmentosa, angioedema,
  • tachycardia, palpitations,
  • increased fatigue, asthenia.

It is extremely rare to observe dermatological manifestations in the form of itching and erythema pigmentosa; there is also the possibility of epidermal necrolysis. The most common rare side effects will be disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. These are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, discomfort and pain in the stomach.

In case of an overdose of the drug, which was noted when taking more than 2300 ml of syrup, you should immediately seek help from a doctor. This is accompanied by nausea with vomiting, tachycardia and agitation. Treatment is symptomatic and includes gastric lavage and maintenance of vital functions. The patient is also indicated for ECG monitoring.

Instructions for using erespal during lactation and pregnancy

Taking this medicine during pregnancy is not recommended, as there is always a risk of adverse effects of the medicine on the embryo (if used in the early stages) or on the developing fetus (in later stages of pregnancy). Some sources contain data on the teratogenic effect of fenspiride hydrochloride with the development of an anomaly of the upper palate in the form of a “cleft palate”. But therapy with erespal is not a basis for termination of pregnancy, since in general there is no clinical data on its teratogenic effect, and in this case the protective properties of the fetoplacental barrier and the individual characteristics of the course of pregnancy and the activity of the mother’s excretory systems should not be excluded.

Also, when breastfeeding a child, taking Erespal is not recommended, since the active components of the drug that enter breast milk can enter the child’s body and adversely affect its organs and systems, in particular causing increased drowsiness or overexcitation, as well as sinus tachycardia. Taking this drug is possible only if you stop breastfeeding for a while, due to the fact that studies on the concentration of the active substance in breast milk have not been conducted and for a child, especially a newborn, they may exceed the maximum permissible dose of the drug for his weight.

Phakmacodynamics of Erespal

The mechanism of action of erespal is its pronounced anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous and antispasmodic effect on the mucous membrane of the upper and lower respiratory tract, as well as its anticonstrictor effect on the bronchial tree. Its action is based on active blockade of H1-histamine receptors, inhibition of arachidonic acid metabolism and blockade of alpha-adrenergic receptors. The effect of fenspiride on arachidonic acid metabolism occurs indirectly through calcium metabolism, which is a regulator of the activity of phospholipase A, which promotes the formation of arachidonic acid. Thus, it antagonizes the mediators of allergy and inflammation - histamine, serotonin and bradykinin, reduces the production of leukotrienes and prostaglandins, which are also stimulated by histamine, and reduces the secretion of bronchial glands and has a chemotactic effect. When used in high doses, fenspiride significantly inhibits the production of inflammatory agents in the mucous membranes: free radicals, cytokines, tumor necrosis factor alpha and arachidonic acid metabolites. Some of these inflammatory factors have a bronchoconstrictor effect, so a decrease in their production causes an antiasthmatic and bronchodilator effect. In this regard, the activity and release of a number of factors that contribute to the development of inflammation, hypersecretion of inflammatory agents and bronchial obstruction decreases. It also has a paperrine-like myotropic antispasmodic effect.

Fenspiride in its mechanism of action differs from all anti-inflammatory drugs (non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), since it has an original effect on the inflammatory process and affects all inflammatory mediators.

Application

The drug is used for diseases: laryngitis, nasopharyngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, as well as bronchitis and bronchial asthma. Erespal serves as an assistant for coughing or hoarseness in diseases such as whooping cough, measles, and influenza.

In addition, Erespal is often prescribed in the presence of cough of any form, in combination with other drugs for a better effect in treatment.

How to use the drug

Instructions for use of "Erispirus" contain information about the standard dosage of the drug, which is prescribed to children and adult patients. If necessary, the attending physician changes the dosage; this may be due to the specific cause of cough, individual characteristics of the body and age.

In all other situations, the drug is used in the amount indicated below.

"Erispirus" syrup. In the treatment of wet and dry cough in children, as well as in the treatment of respiratory tract pathologies, this form is often prescribed. It can be taken from the age of two. The duration of treatment is from a week to ten days. The required dosage is usually determined according to the patient's body weight.

If the child weighs less than ten kilograms, he is given 2-4 teaspoons (10 to 20 milliliters) of an anti-inflammatory drug per day. If you weigh more than ten kilograms per day, you can drink 2-4 tablespoons. The maximum amount is 60 milliliters.

If a child refuses to take cough syrup, it is recommended to mix it with vegetable or fruit puree, baby food, juice or milk.

"Erispirus" tablets. The drug in tablet form can be taken from the age of fourteen. You need to take it three times a day, one pill before meals, with a small amount of water. The maximum dosage allowed per day is 3 pieces of 80 mg.

The instructions for use for Erispirus tablets confirm this.

The duration of the treatment course ranges approximately from 5 to 10 days. If necessary, the duration of therapy can be increased by the doctor.

Erispirus was banned and withdrawn from sales in Russia

This is the third drug containing fenspiride that will be withdrawn from the Russian market; we have previously written about the withdrawal from sale and even discontinuation of the Erispirus analogue, the drug Erespal. See the full list of analogues below.

The active ingredient of the drug - fenspiride - which is also part of the already banned drugs Epistat and Erespal, can cause arrhythmia and tachycardia. The ban on Erispirus is based on an examination of patients who had previously taken the drug - patients were found to have prolongation of QT intervals on the electrocardiogram.

Roszdravnadzor also noted that when using Erispirus tablets and syrup, no such negative effect on heart function was noted, but the decision to withdraw the drug from sale was still made for safety reasons.

How to replace Erispirus?

The drug can be replaced either with analogs of the active substance that are still available for sale, or with drugs with a similar mechanism of action. For a complete list of analogues and possible replacements, see the “Analogs” section below.

It should be noted that in negative reviews of the drug, people often noted the development of side effects in the form of a sharp decrease in blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, angioedema, and severe drowsiness.

We recommend that you consult a doctor rather than choosing a replacement yourself.

Interaction with other medications

The annotation for the drug states that fenspiride has not been subject to studies regarding its interaction with other pharmaceuticals.

The use of Erespal leads to increased sedation. Therefore, it is better not to take it together with sedatives.

If you are taking other cough suppressants at the same time, you should consult your doctor. It is not recommended to take Erespal with sedatives and alcohol, since the drug, as an antihistamine, has its own sedative effect, which will enhance the sedative effect of other drugs.

Also, in the case of simultaneous use of Erespal, alcohol and other sedatives, one should be wary of a deterioration in the reaction rate. This should be taken into account by those who drive vehicles.

The drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation, since there is no data on its safety for lactating and pregnant women.

Erespal is available in the form of syrup. The liquid is transparent, with a slight orange tint. Presence of sediment is allowed. The main active ingredient is fenspiride hydrochloride, its concentration per 1 ml of syrup is 2 mg.

Auxiliary components include:

  • licorice root extract;
  • sucrose;
  • vanilla tincture;
  • glycerol;
  • potassium sorbate;
  • glycerol;
  • methyl parahydroxybenzoate;
  • propyl parahydroxybenzoate.

The flavoring composition determines the taste of the syrup, and the purified water determines the concentration.

To date, studies aimed at establishing the possibility of combining the use of Erespal syrup with other medications have not been conducted. Doctors do not recommend combining the drug with other drugs from the group of sedatives - this may cause an increase in the sedative effect of the syrup.

Erespal instructions

The medicine belongs to the group of anti-inflammatory and antibronchoconstrictor (preventing bronchospasms) drugs. Erespal is produced in France. Tablets are intended for adults, and for children the drug is produced in the form of syrup. The active ingredient of the drug is fenspiride hydrochloride, thanks to which the drug Erespal performs 4 functions in one. This is at the same time:

  • anti-inflammatory agent;
  • an antihistamine that prevents swelling of the mucous membranes;
  • an antispasmodic that prevents dangerous narrowing of the bronchi and suffocation;
  • mucolytic, thinning thick sputum.

For what diseases can Erespal be taken - the instructions for use indicate that these are pathologies of the respiratory tract. Indications of the medication:

  • rhinitis;
  • pharyngitis;
  • laryngitis;
  • tracheobronchitis;
  • bronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • asthma;
  • sinusitis;
  • otitis;
  • ARVI, influenza, whooping cough, measles, accompanied by cough.

For what cough is Erespal taken? The medicine is universal, effectively suppressing dry and wet cough in adults and children. In addition, according to the instructions for use, the medication eliminates:

  • sore throat;
  • nasal congestion, runny nose;
  • swelling.

Erespal syrup

When children have a strong cough, they readily drink this sweet orange medicine with a honey-vanilla aroma. Erespal in syrup is also suitable for adults, but it contains sucrose, which is not suitable for treatment for diabetics. The drug is sold in 150 ml bottles, although it is cheaper if you purchase the medicine with a capacity of 250 ml. 1 ml of syrup contains 2 mg of fenspiride hydrochloride. Erespal's abstract notes an important feature of the drug: the main medicinal substance is enriched with licorice, which is known for its powerful antitussive activity. The product begins to act after 2.5 hours.

Erespal tablets

The drug reaches its maximum concentration in the body 6 hours after administration. Erespal is in film-coated tablets that have a standard biconvex shape, packaged in 30 pieces per package. Each contains 80 mg of fenspiride hydrochloride. Excipients - calcium, silicon, magnesium compounds and other ingredients. The use of Erespal in tablets, as indicated in the instructions, is intended for adult patients and adolescents.

Contraindications for use and consequences of use

It is known that any form of the drug "Erispirus" is contraindicated for persons with hypersensitivity.
The syrup is also not prescribed for sucrose deficiency and patients with fructose intolerance. Children under two years of age are not recommended to use the suspension. The tablets are prohibited for use by children under 14 years of age. The active ingredient fenspiride hydrochloride is contraindicated for expectant mothers and women during lactation. If you additionally use antidepressants or suffer from diabetes, you should definitely consult your doctor about this before starting treatment. The drug "Erispirus" (syrup) has side effects. When used correctly, they occur quite rarely. But the consumer should always be aware of the possible negative impact. Adverse reactions include allergies, dyspepsia, and digestive disorders. There are cases where the medicine caused drowsiness and dizziness and contributed to the development of tachycardia. If during treatment you suddenly feel worse, you should immediately consult a doctor to adjust further therapy.

Mechanism of action

Side effects of Erespal are mainly associated with individual intolerance to the active substance or with an allergic reaction to the auxiliary components of the product. If there is no allergy to the drug, it turns out to be very effective for coughs of any origin. After all, fenspiride hydrochloride has a complex effect on the body. Unlike most other antitussives, Erespal does not affect the brain and does not dilute mucus, increasing its quantity. Its action is aimed at the mechanism of cough. Therefore, the side effects of Erespal manifest themselves mainly in the form of allergic reactions.

The main advantage of the drug is that it has a strong anti-inflammatory effect. This is why the drug is so effective for viral infections when antibiotics are not used. The active substance of the drug prevents the production of the main enzymes that provoke inflammation: cytokines, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, free radicals and arachidonic acid. And the blocking effect on alpha-adrenergic receptors helps to reduce the production of mucus by the bronchi.

In addition, the antispasmodic properties of the drug contribute to the dilation of the bronchi and easier breathing. And the main antitussive effect is explained by the effect on histamine receptors. As a result, the production of mucus in the body decreases, which makes coughing easier. Some of the most common side effects of the drug Erespal are associated with this. But the complex effect allows it to be used in the treatment of any bronchopulmonary diseases. This drug prevents the narrowing of the bronchi, relaxing the muscles of their walls, and also has an antihistamine effect.

Erespal side effects

  • From the gastrointestinal tract : vomiting, painful sensations in the epigastrium, diarrhea, nausea;
  • From the blood vessels and heart : decreased blood pressure, tachycardia, palpitations;
  • CNS : dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Skin : epidermal necrolysis, itching, angioedema, urticaria, erythema;
  • General manifestations : fatigue, asthenia;
  • The use of syrup may cause allergic reactions associated with the dye (Sunset Yellow S).

Erespal for children and adults for which cough to take

The anti-inflammatory drug "Erespal" in children and adults will significantly reduce allergic manifestations and help cope with spasms in the bronchi in combination with other drugs. Erespal should be used to reduce infectious, inflammatory and allergic phenomena in the respiratory tract.

Effect of the drug

By taking Erespal, you will prevent spasms and swelling of the bronchi, since Erespal antagonizes histamine, bradykinin and serotonin, which provoke inflammation and allergic symptoms. The drug will relax muscles and blood vessels, as it is an antispasmodic. "Erespal" in large doses will reduce the effects of inflammation. The safety of the antipyretic and anti-inflammatory Erespal has been proven.

The drug does not allow the production of the main biologically active provocateurs of allergies, inflammation and bronchospasm. As a result, the impact of provoking factors on the body is reduced. Shortness of breath decreases, coughing attacks and painful phenomena associated with it decrease.

Erespal tablets are absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and begin to act in the body in about six hours or even faster. The active substance of the drug, fenspiride hydrochloride, is excreted from the body in urine (mainly) and feces.

Erespal is produced in tablets for adults and in the form of syrup for children.

When to use

The drug is very effective:

  • If you are suffering from respiratory symptoms accompanying acute respiratory diseases, whooping cough, measles, etc.
  • For chronic bronchitis with obstruction.
  • For the treatment of rhinitis, otitis, pharyngitis and sinusitis.
  • For chronic bronchial asthma.
  • To reduce and get rid of allergic rhinitis.

The use of Erespal for infectious diseases and allergic manifestations is indicated since it acts only on the tissues of the respiratory system. An allergic cough in a child is also an indication.

What cough should I take it for? "Erespal" has proven itself well for dry and wet coughs.

For children with a dry cough, the drug is given before meals, a teaspoon. In advanced conditions, it is possible to take up to 320 ml of syrup per day. When fighting a wet cough, the dose should be calculated according to the patient’s weight: 4 milligrams per kilogram, 2 teaspoons before meals.

For a protracted, exhausting “barking” cough, “Erespal” is also an indispensable drug. For exacerbations of bronchitis, tracheitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, otitis, the use of the drug is justified in combination with antibiotics and expectorants. The inflammatory process will stop developing with the use of Erespal, and when taken together with antibiotics prescribed by the doctor, it will defeat the infection, significantly speeding up the healing process.

If bronchial obstruction appears after a long inflammatory process, with chronic pulmonary obstruction, taking Erespal for three months will prevent relapse and reduce developing shortness of breath.

For bronchial asthma, it should be used in combination with other drugs to suppress the development of bronchospasms and allergy attacks.

The course of treatment with Erespal can last from a week for acute diseases and up to three months for chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs.

Instructions for use

"Erespal" cough syrup, both to get rid of dry or wet cough, should be taken before meals.

Children over 14 years of age and adult patients take Erespal 80 milligrams (equal to one tablet or 45 - 90 milliliters of syrup) in the morning and before bed. The dose can be increased up to a volume of 320 milligrams, in two or three doses during the day.

Syrup is given to children depending on the number of years and body weight:

  • up to a year (weighing less than 10 kilograms) one to two spoons of syrup two to three times a day,
  • children a year and older (weighing 10 kilograms) one to two tablespoons up to three times a day.

Pregnant women and nursing mothers are not prescribed Erespal, since some of its safety indicators have not been clinically proven.

What's the price? The cost of Erespal in tablets ranges from 210 to 280 rubles.

Overdose

An overdose of a drug occurs when the drug is taken in dosages exceeding the average daily allowable dose, when the drug accumulates in the body, which occurs when it is taken for a long time or when excretion is impaired.

Symptoms of an overdose of erespal are agitation or drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and sinus tachycardia.

Sometimes situations arise when a small child drinks a large amount of the drug. In the case of erespal, this can be extremely dangerous due to its adrenergic blocking and histamine blocking effects, which can provoke an attack of sinus tachycardia, accompanied by severe weakness, drowsiness or overexcitation.

All organs and systems of the child’s body are characterized by ongoing differentiation, and therefore insufficient stability and a paradoxical reaction to a large simultaneous administration of the drug, and the delicate gastric mucosa contributes to faster absorption of the drug into the bloodstream. Therefore, if a situation arises where a child, out of ignorance or out of curiosity, takes a large dose of erespal, it is necessary to immediately contact a medical institution for medical help for gastric lavage and, if necessary, symptomatic drug therapy, detoxification measures and ECG monitoring.

Also no less dangerous when taking a large amount of the drug, both in children and adults, especially in old age, is the occurrence of allergic reactions in the form of angioedema or Quincke's edema, which are immediate-type allergic reactions and are characterized by a rapid course. Therefore, if they occur, you must immediately contact a medical facility.

"Erespal": patient reviews

Side effects from taking the drug do not appear so often, especially if you follow the instructions and recommendations of the doctor. That's why there are so many positive reviews about it. Patients note that within a few days the drug helped cope with a painful dry cough. It is especially effective for respiratory viral infections. In addition, as part of a complex treatment, the drug helps patients with bronchial asthma to reduce the frequency of attacks.

In reviews of the side effects of Erespal, patients note that these are mainly allergic reactions and abdominal pain. If you take into account contraindications and follow all the doctor’s instructions, then this remedy is well tolerated. Therefore, many doctors like to prescribe Erespal for various respiratory diseases. It is especially effective for respiratory viral infections, as it has an anti-inflammatory effect. But it is worth remembering that the drug does not replace antibiotics; you must take all medications prescribed by your doctor.
