Instructions for use of the drug Terzhinan for thrush

Terzhinan is a drug with a combined composition that is widely used in gynecological practice. Prescribed for local treatment with vaginal administration.

It has a powerful antibacterial effect against broad-spectrum antibiotics, as well as antiprotozoal and antifungal effects.

Due to the presence of prednisolone, it has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. It is due to the multilateral mechanism that it can be used for various types of inflammation and infections, especially when there is a combination of several agents at once.

Compound

Terzhinan is a complex drug containing several active components and having a multifaceted effect.

Among them are such components as:

  • 200 mg ternidazole. This substance is a derivative of metronidazole and has antimicrobial and antiprotozoal effects. Thanks to it, bacteria are destroyed and their harmful effects on the body are reduced.
  • Neomycin sulfate at a dosage of 100 mg , which will correspond to 65,000 IU. This component is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with an effect on gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
  • 100,000 IU Nystatin . A product that has an antifungal effect. It belongs to the field of new antibiotics and has a destructive effect on the cell wall of fungi, leading to an increase in its permeability and the release of cellular components into the environment. It is most sensitive to fungi of the genus Candida.
  • Prednisolone sodium metasulfobenzoate at a dosage of 4.7 mg. This would be equivalent to pure prednisolone 3 mg. Thanks to its mechanisms of action, it helps to have a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect and, to a lesser extent, an anti-exudative effect, thereby reducing the severity of tissue edema. Moreover, the effectiveness of such a substance is several times higher than that of the original one.
  • Geranium and clove oil. They have no effect on the cause of inflammation. In this composition they are used only to improve tissue distribution and increase solubility in the mucous membranes. Thanks to it, there is better penetration into the tissues and cells of the mucous membrane.

Which is better Terzhinan or Polygynax

The effect of the drug Polygynax is identical to the effect of Terzhinan. However, studies aimed at comparatively assessing the activity of the components of these two drugs in in vitro models showed that Terzhinan, unlike Polygynax, has no effect on MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), streptococci and enterococci. At the same time, it showed great activity against Gardnerella vaginalis (G. vaginalis).

  • Thus, Polygynax is effective only for the treatment of bacterial colpitis and thrush, and is completely useless when infected with Trichomonas. Also, Polygynax does not stop the inflammatory process, so its effectiveness in cases of severe colpitis or vulvovaginitis is very modest, as a result of which, after the destruction of pathogenic bacteria, you have to wait another 1 to 3 weeks until the inflammation goes away on its own.
  • Terzhinan is effective for the treatment of colpitis caused by bacteria, fungi and protozoa, that is, its spectrum of action is wider than that of Polygynax. In addition, Terzhinan contains an anti-inflammatory component, thanks to which, simultaneously with the destruction of the pathogenic microbe, vaginal inflammation is stopped. That is, the cure for colpitis or vulvovaginitis with the use of Terzhinan occurs faster than with the use of Polygynax.

Taking into account all these factors, we can say that Terzhinan and Polygynax are interchangeable in the treatment of thrush and bacterial colpitis. If a woman has any of these diseases, then she can choose any drug that she likes best for whatever reason. However, if there is a pronounced inflammatory process against the background of bacterial or fungal colpitis (a large number of leukocytes in the smear), then it is better to use Terzhinan rather than Polygynax, since it contains an anti-inflammatory component. If you have trichomonas, you should in any case choose Terzhinan.

Release form

The drug Terzhinan currently has only one release form.
This is a medicine contained in the form of vaginal tablets. Many women confuse this form with suppositories for vaginal use; in fact, it is a slightly different type, but the essence of its action remains the same.

A distinctive feature from suppositories is the lower content of oils in the composition, which leads to worse penetration into the vaginal cavity.

  1. Terzhinan can be produced in packages with different quantities, these are 6 or 10 vaginal tablets. The quantity chosen will depend on what the doctor deems most preferable. The tablets are packaged in foil strips that are fairly easy to open.
  2. The vaginal tablet itself is an oblong-shaped formation, slightly concave in the middle. There is a thin chamfer along the edge and a “T” engraved in the center. The color of the tablets will be yellow in various shades, from pale to rich. In some cases, the presence of small inclusions of a darker color is allowed.
  3. Each vaginal tablet does not have individual packaging ; the protective strip must be removed gradually in order to leave it in a protective coating without access to air and sunlight and other factors.
  4. The outer packaging is made of opaque cardboard of blue and silver color and has a rectangular shape.

Where to buy and what analogues are there

"Terzhinan" is sold in pharmacies without a doctor's prescription. However, it is better to coordinate its use with a gynecologist; it may be necessary to prescribe other medications. The cost of one package of tablets ranges from 360-480 rubles. (Data as of November 2019). The price depends on the number of tablets (six or ten), the trade markup in a particular pharmacy chain.

There are no exact analogues of Terzhinan on the domestic pharmaceutical market. If it is not available in the pharmacy, you should consult a doctor who can recommend other medications with a similar effect. However, in this case, it may be necessary to use several medications at once.

The following drugs have a similar effect to Terzhinan:

  • "Vagisept";
  • "Clomegel";
  • "Metromicon-Neo".

Thus, “Terzhinan” is an original pharmaceutical product that combines several medicinal substances with multidirectional effects. That is why it acts comprehensively, on several types of bacteria at once. This ensures the high effectiveness of this drug with a relatively low incidence of side effects.

Indications for use of Terzhinan

Since the drug has a combined composition, therefore, its spectrum of action is quite wide.

In gynecological practice, Terzhinan is prescribed for the purpose of drug treatment in local form:

  • The main indication is vaginitis of various etiologies. The causative agent may be chlamydia, mycoplasma, trichomonas, fungi, including Candida. It can also be a mixed nonspecific flora.
  • The inflammatory process can be both acute and chronic. The use of Terzhinan is especially important in chronic and often recurrent processes.
  • The main indication may also be discharge from the genital tract in which inflammation in the vagina is not detected. This is the so-called bacterial vaginosis.
  • Very often, Terzhinan is prescribed for the treatment of thrush , both new and recurrent.

In some cases, Terzhinan is taken for the following indications:

  • To sanitize the vagina before surgical interventions on the cervix , this can be a biopsy of the eroded cervix, diathermocoagulation, or cryodestruction.
  • Before diagnostic interventions on the uterus , these should include metrosalpingography, probing of the uterine cavity, as well as tissue sampling by puncture or aspiration biopsy.
  • Before inserting an intrauterine contraceptive device such as an intrauterine device.

What are the advantages of the drug

Various inflammatory pathologies of the vagina quite often have a polyetiological nature, that is, their appearance is provoked by several pathogens at once. For the treatment of such pathologies, many pharmacological drugs have been developed, differing in their spectrum and mechanism of action. However, none of them can be considered a universal remedy.

Quite often, medications that have a positive effect in one pathology promote the growth of other microorganisms. Thus, the use of bacterial agents provokes the growth of a fungal infection, leading to the appearance of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Also, some drugs can stop the restoration of the number of vaginal lactobacilli. This effect negatively affects the results of the therapy and can cause the process to become chronic.

Complications in the form of disturbances in the vaginal microflora are especially often caused by systemic pharmacological agents. That is why most gynecologists recommend using medications that act on the pathological focus only locally. This is exactly how Terzhinan is used, which is its great advantage over systemic antibiotics.

If a reasonable question arises - how does this drug treat men, excuse them, where should they insert vaginal suppositories? After all, in order to be treated correctly, both need to take the medicine. For men, they need an oral method of taking the medicine, in other words, they need to take Terzhinan tablets, and how and how much - a doctor will tell you, since the drug is hormonal and use without a doctor’s prescription is prohibited.

Terzhinan tablets instructions for use

The drug is prescribed according to the instructions in local form and the target organ in this case is the woman’s vagina.

Rules of application:

  1. Before using a vaginal tablet, a woman should carry out hygiene procedures , which will be aimed at treating the external genitalia, as well as the woman’s hands.
  2. Favorable time of use is evening or night time. This is due to the fact that a woman is not recommended to get up after inserting a suppository; if this is necessary, she should get up no earlier than after 15-30 minutes. This time is enough for the product to dissolve in the cavity and also act on the surface layers of the mucous membrane along with the microbes contained on it.
  3. To demonstrate the maximum effectiveness of Terzhinan, it is necessary to insert the vaginal tablet deep into the vagina, after moistening it in water for 30 - 40 seconds, so the substance begins to act in a shorter period of time. Also, the most favorable is the introduction of Terzhinan to the cervix, the woman can feel the emphasis. After some time, you may feel a burning sensation in the area of the mucous membranes, this may indicate the beginning of the manifestation of the drug.
  4. The course of therapy is selected exclusively by a specialist. In case of acute or exacerbation of a chronic process, a 10-day course of treatment may be sufficient. But if the process is recurrent in nature, then it is recommended to extend the duration of treatment to three weeks. During this time, several generations of the pathogen or its development cycles are affected at once.

Terzhinan for thrush

When treating thrush, the drug is prescribed in various regimens:

  • If the process has arisen for the first time and it is not aggravated any other conditions, then a six-day dosage cycle may be sufficient.
  • If there is a recurrence or reappearance after antibiotic therapy, then treatment is carried out for three weeks.
  • When thrush appears against the background of decreased immune strength, three weeks of treatment is required, followed by monitoring and possible additional prescription for preventive purposes.

Terzhinan during pregnancy

  1. This drug is absolutely contraindicated for women during the entire first trimester of pregnancy. This is due to the fact that the active substances can have a teratogenic or embryotoxic effect at a time when the final formation of the organs and systems of the fetus has not yet occurred.
  2. From the second and third trimester, Terzhinan is allowed to be taken, but with caution. You should be wary of uncontrolled use of funds.
  3. During lactation, taking Terzhinan is not recommended. If necessary, it is necessary to stop lactation during treatment, as well as for several days after, until the drug is completely removed from the body.

In what cases is it indicated?

Indications for the use of Terzhinan suppositories are infections caused by protozoa, anaerobic and candida infections, as well as gram-negative and gram-positive flora. Terzhinan suppositories are prescribed to women for the following diseases:

  • trichomonas infection;
  • bacterial vaginosis (vaginitis);
  • vaginal thrush;
  • inflammation of the cervix (colpitis, cervicitis) and vagina caused by mixed flora.

Terzhinan is also included in a combined treatment regimen for certain urinary tract diseases (recurrent cystitis, pyelonephritis). It can be used together with other antibiotics in the fight against staphylococci, ureaplasma or mycoplasma, and other sexually transmitted infections. It is included in the complex therapy of endometriosis and ovarian cysts.

In addition, Terzhinan can be used as a prophylaxis against bacterial infections (endometritis, adnexitis). This is necessary before performing gynecological operations or interventions for cervical erosion (hysteroscopy, diathermocoagulation, etc.). It is allowed to use the drug before childbirth for prophylactic purposes - to reduce the risk of bacterial complications.

Terzhinan - contraindications

The drug has the following contraindications:

  • The medicine is contraindicated in cases of individual intolerance. In this case, it can only be any component of the product. Among the manifestations, this may be an allergic reaction or excessive sensitivity of tissues without an allergy clinic.
  • It is not recommended for use by children under 16 years of age. This is due to the effect of some components on the immature morphofunctional structures of tissues.
  • In addition, a contraindication to the use of Terzhinan is the period of pregnancy in the first trimester ; in later stages Terzhinan is allowed to be taken.
  • In some cases, the doctor may prescribe Terzhinan during lactation , especially if the child is not old.

special instructions

The active substances contained in the suppository are highly concentrated due to the emergence of bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics, so the drug remains effective.
Like all other drugs containing nystatin, Terzhinan can destroy the latex of barrier contraceptives. Some ingredients may enter the circulatory system. Considering this, patients with osteoporosis, heart failure or arterial hypertension using Terzhinan should do so under the supervision of doctors and after examination

The attention of specialists during the course of the drug is also required for glaucoma, tuberculosis, myopathy, epilepsy, severe stress or mental disorders, diabetes and hypothyroidism

Side effects of Terzhinan

Side effects may also occur:

  • There may be a feeling of severe itching and at the same time a burning sensation in the vaginal area, which appears several hours after insertion of the vaginal tablet. Many women are afraid to use this remedy for thrush in the future and do not carry out the full course of treatment, which will be a serious mistake. In the future, this leads to refusal to take Terzhinan for thrush.
  • An allergic reaction to Terzhinan is also less common. It manifests itself as swelling of the vaginal mucosa, the appearance of redness in the area of the external genitalia, and in rare cases it can be a rash of various types. In systemic form, an allergic reaction is quite rare.

Pimafucin

Long-term use of Terzhinan has shown that these vaginal tablets are very effective. Gynecologists very often prescribe this medicine to their patients. However, the drug is not suitable for everyone. Some women are not satisfied with the price, others have an allergic reaction. Such situations are not hopeless, because Terzhinan has several analogues.

One of the similar drugs is “Pimafucin” in the form of vaginal suppositories. This is an antifungal agent. The active substance in its composition is natamycin (an antifungal polyene antibiotic of the macrolide group). Most pathogenic yeasts are sensitive to this component. The medicine is used in the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis.

The duration of therapy is 3–6 days. For convenience, it produces packs of 2 types - small with 3 tablets and large with 6 tablets. The price of the first package is about 260 rubles, and the price of the second is about 500 rubles.

Analogs

Currently, many analogues of this remedy have been identified; the choice will depend on the immediate reason for which the use is necessary.

Among the most popular analogues of Terzhinan are:

  • Polygynax is a drug with a combined composition reminiscent of Terzhinan; a distinctive feature is the absence of prednisolone, which can cause the development of hypersensitivity in some people. It also contains ascorbic acid, which has a detrimental effect on the cell walls of some bacteria, while Polygynax does not affect the number of lactobacilli. Another advantage is the possibility of direct administration without prior contact with water. The number of allergic reactions and side effects is much less, while the spectrum of use remains similar to Terzhinan. The course of treatment ranges from 6 to 12 days. You can buy certain packages specifically for this. Polygynax can also be used by girls before the onset of sexual activity; it is for this purpose that a special form is produced, which is an applicator with a thin atraumatic tip and liquid contents. Currently, Polygynax is recognized as a leader in the treatment of inflammatory and non-inflammatory diseases of the vagina.
  • Pimafucin. This is a well-known antimicrobial agent that is widely used by women to treat thrush in various forms of its course. Available in several dosage forms relative to Terzhinan. The most popular of which are vaginal suppositories. The mechanism of action is aimed at destroying the wall of the fungus and destroying the mycelium threads. It can be used in various durations, the optimal of which is a six-day course of therapy. Almost no side effects were found as a result of taking it, except in cases of hypersensitivity. It is allowed to take pimafucin during pregnancy in the first trimester. The main disadvantage compared to Terzhinan is its narrow spectrum of action, since it is used only for thrush and has absolutely no effect on the bacterial flora. If treatment with vaginal suppositories is impossible, vaginal cream can also be used, this is especially important for women with signs of genital prolapse or for girls before sexual activity.
  • Livarol. This is a remedy similar to Terzhinan, which is used for microbial processes in the vagina. The main indication for use is recurrent candidiasis or thrush in the genital area. Most often it is effective in cases of recurrent thrush, especially against the background of dishormonal disorders. The advantage is the short duration of administration of suppositories. The maximum duration is 5 days if the clinical course is advanced or there is a concomitant infection. Livarol, unlike Terzhinan, has no effect on other pathogenic agents of the vagina. The cost of Livarol is quite high and is equal to Terzhinan. It should also not be taken during the first trimester of pregnancy.
  • Betadine. The effect on bacterial flora is similar to Terzhinan. The main distinguishing feature is the absence of an antibacterial component in the composition. There is only an iodine-containing component that destroys both bacteria and fungi. Effective for thrush in various forms. The main advantage is the possibility of taking it during the first two months after pregnancy. The cost may differ only slightly from Terzhinan. The course that Betadine is prescribed ranges from 7 to 10 days.

During pregnancy

If there is a pathogenic fungal microflora on the vaginal mucosa during gestation, the use of the drug is possible from the second trimester of pregnancy. Unlike antimicrobial drugs in the form of tablets or capsules, after administration of Terzhinan its components are not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream, so they do not have a negative effect on the child.

Storage conditions

  1. It is recommended to store the drug in a dark place protected from light.
  2. The temperature should be from +5 to +20 degrees. This should be strictly observed in order to maintain compliance with the effectiveness of the components. If the storage temperature increases or decreases, the quality of the oil included in the composition may change.
  3. In addition, each tablet must be hermetically sealed until used, otherwise changes in humidity may cause a breakdown in the structure of the tablet.
  4. The shelf life should be 24 months from the date of manufacture, subject to proper storage.
  5. If the temperature or other storage conditions are not met, the drug should be discarded.

Dosage and treatment regimen

According to the instructions for use, the suppositories are inserted into the vagina as deeply as possible. Before administration, it is good to immerse the suppository in water for half a minute, this will make the administration process more comfortable and allow the active ingredients to dissolve faster. As a standard, one suppository is administered per day, the best time is just before bedtime.

The course duration is on average 10 days. However, when using Terzhinan suppositories to normalize the vaginal microflora or prevent infectious inflammation, the duration of use can be reduced to a week. If vaginal tablets are prescribed to combat thrush, the course is increased to 20 days, then a scraping of the mucous membrane is taken for examination. If necessary, the course is repeated.

For pregnant women, especially in the first trimester, the dosage and treatment regimen are determined by the doctor. This is due to the ability of the active substances to penetrate the placenta and influence the development of the fetus.

Description and active substance

Terzhinan suppositories: how to administer correctly?

Most often, the doctor decides to prescribe this drug in the following cases:

  • vaginitis, the appearance and symptoms of which are caused by the presence of a mixed infection in a woman’s body (there are cases when one patient is a carrier, for example, of Trichomonas and a fungus);
  • vaginitis, the cause of which is a fungus of the genus Candida;
  • vaginitis that developed as a result of trichomoniasis;
  • vaginitis developing against the background of pyogenic flora (causing the formation of pus);
  • before planned gynecological operations;
  • before abortion, before and after the introduction of an intrauterine device;
  • before natural childbirth.

Based on what is written above, we can draw the absolutely correct conclusion that this remedy is very effective for various conditions. This is not a publicity stunt! This is how it really is. The composition of the drug is designed in such a way that it allows you to solve several problems simultaneously.

  • The drug "Terzhinan" (suppositories) includes prednisolone, which allows you to fairly quickly neutralize the inflammatory process.
  • Nystatin, which is also contained in Terzhinan suppositories, is especially effective against Candida fungi; this component is an antibiotic.
  • Neomycin sulfate is a substance that is also an antibiotic, which has proven itself to be an effective means of combating aerobic organisms (in particular, gram-negative bacteria).
  • Ternidazole is a component that is active against many pathogenic microorganisms, in particular those belonging to the genus Gardnerella; Ternidazole also shows a good effect in getting rid of trichomoniasis.

It is necessary to administer the medicine before going to bed, but if you cannot do this, you can carry out treatment at a time convenient for you. The only and mandatory rule is no more than one candle per day.

Take a package of tablets and remove one piece, put it in cool water for 20 seconds, due to this the top layer will slightly dissolve and the effect of the drug will begin immediately.

Remove the tablet from the water and then find a comfortable position. It is this point that needs to be given more attention, since the instructions indicate that the best position for insertion is lying down. However, not every woman can insert a tablet in this position, since it is small in size and it will not be possible to push it as deep as possible. That is why experts insist that it should be inserted only in the position in which it is convenient for you.

The most convenient, according to many, are:

  • Squat down, spread your shins wide;
  • Take a standing position, lift one leg up and place it on something;
  • Lie on your back, bend your knees and gently press them to your stomach.

After a comfortable position has been taken, use the fingers of the hand that is uncomfortable for you (for right-handed people, the left hand and vice versa), spread the labia to the sides, and try to expose the entrance to the vagina. With your other hand, take the tablet and push it as deep as possible.

Remove your fingers from your vagina and lie down gently on the bed or sofa for 20-25 minutes. During this time, the tablet will have time to dissolve, and the active substances will be half absorbed into the mucous membrane. After this, you can get up and get dressed (preferably using a panty liner) and continue with your business.

Drug interactions

The combined drug is intended for local use in gynecology. It has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antiprotozoal effects. Ensures normal function of the vaginal mucosa and maintains normal pH.

No interactions with other drugs have been identified.

Alcohol

The instructions for Terzhinan do not prohibit its use with alcoholic beverages. However, it is known that alcohol can provoke unexpected adverse reactions when taking medications, especially if the drug is taken for the first time.

Therefore, it is recommended to exclude alcoholic beverages during treatment with Terzhinan and refrain from drinking them for some time after completion of the course (this period is approximately 1-2 weeks).

According to the instructions, menstruation is not a contraindication for use. But the tablet will take longer to dissolve, and in case of heavy menstruation, it may come out of the vagina with blood. If there are no direct indications for treatment with Terzhinan during menstruation, you should take a break until the end of your period.

At the beginning of drug therapy, many women note a burning sensation and itching in the treated area, but there is no need to stop treatment because of this, since this condition is a normal reaction of the pregnant woman’s body to the process of suppressing existing pathogens in the vagina. With normal treatment, such unpleasant symptoms disappear on their own after 2-3 days. But if after 3 days this does not happen and the burning sensation persists, you should consult a doctor.

The therapeutic effect of Terzhinan tablets occurs exclusively locally, so it does not have any effect on the expectant mother’s body as a whole, or on the development of the fetus.

Perhaps the only contraindication to the use of the drug is the presence of individual intolerance to any of its components, which is rare. The symptom in this case is an unbearable burning sensation and severe itching in the vagina, which occurs almost immediately after insertion of the pill.

To avoid re-infection and subsequent relapses of thrush, sexual contact should be excluded during therapy, and the partner must also undergo treatment.

Overdose

To date, there are no reports of overdose with Terzhinan. Since the components of the drug are practically not absorbed into the blood, an overdose is considered impossible.

Potentially, an overdose of drugs may increase the severity of adverse reactions. This requires discontinuation of the drug and the appointment of symptomatic treatment.

The medicine is inserted into the vagina. One suppository should be inserted deep into the vagina while lying down or sitting, preferably before bed. After administering the medication, you need to lie down for 15-20 minutes.

The average duration of pharmacological treatment for vaginal candidiasis is 7-10 days; in case of complicated mycosis of the vaginal mucosa, the duration of therapy can be increased to three weeks;

There is no clinically proven or laboratory evidence of an overdose of the pharmacological drug Terzhinan. There is a theoretical possibility of toxic effects of the substance nystatin on the kidneys and central nervous system.

Krystsina Yurievna Prudkova

Terzhinan is an effective antibacterial drug that quickly relieves inflammation. In rare cases, it provokes side effects in the form of burning. Many patients note that the therapeutic effect occurs after the first use, but I still recommend undergoing the full course of treatment.

Alena Igarauna Yatsko

I consider Terzhinan tablets one of the effective medicines for urogenital infections. In my practice, I often prescribe it as a stand-alone remedy or in combination with systemic antibiotics. Terzhinan eliminates itching, discomfort, and white discharge after the first use. The advantage of the drug is that it can be used by pregnant women. The tablets are well tolerated and rarely cause side effects.

Dzmitry Syarheevich Tsishchanka

In my practice, I stopped using this drug a long time ago because I did not notice any positive dynamics from treatment with it. There are many other more modern and effective medicines on the pharmaceutical market.

Iryna Alyaksandraina Sukhodoeva

Terzhinan is an excellent combination agent that has an anti-inflammatory effect. Among the disadvantages of the drug, I consider it inconvenient to use. If the tablet is not wet before insertion, it may not dissolve in the vagina and will be spoiled. It would be much more convenient if the drug was produced in the form of suppositories.

Katsyaryna Mikalayeva Sheveleva

I often prescribe Terzhinan for the treatment of thrush and inflammatory processes. According to my patients, the medicine sometimes causes itching and burning in the vagina.

How does the drug work during menstruation?

If you are unsure about use during menstruation, read the instructions before use. It says that the drug can be administered even during menstruation.

Terzhinan dissolves more slowly than conventional suppositories and is not washed out in case of heavy discharge, this is an advantage of the medication.

It is also necessary to highlight several features of the use of the drug during menstruation:

  • The medication does not affect the cycle, so there is nothing wrong with using it. There is a small chance of a delay in menstruation after Terzhinan for a period of no more than 2 weeks, but the gynecologist can prescribe hormonal medications to normalize the condition.

Terzhinan can also be used during menstruation

  • If you stop using Terzhinan before discharge and do not complete the course, there is a possibility that the effectiveness will be reduced. In the future, more time will be needed for treatment.
  • During therapy, the nature of the discharge may change. The secretion becomes liquid, viscous or mucus-like. The discharge changes as remnants of the pill and various bacteria come out of the vagina.

pharmachologic effect

The therapeutic effect of Terzhinan is due to the active components included in its composition. During the treatment process, the drug exhibits antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiprotozoal and antifungal effects. The combined product contains a successful combination of antibiotic, hormonal and antimycotic components, which determines its effectiveness.

The active substance ternidazole (imidazole derivative) provides a trichomonacid effect, causing the death of trichomonas, and is active against anaerobic bacteria Gardnerell.

  1. Nystatin is an antifungal component from the group of polyene antibiotics. Causes the death of pathogenic fungi due to damage to cell membranes. Fungi of the genus Candida, which are causative agents of vaginal candidiasis (thrush), vaginitis and other diseases of the female genital area, are particularly sensitive to nystatin.
  2. Neomycin is an antibiotic from the group of aminoglycosides and has a wide spectrum of antibacterial action. By suppressing protein synthesis in microbial cells, this component ensures their destruction. Gram-negative and anaerobic bacteria (listeria, Staphylococcus aureus, streptococci, shegella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) show sensitivity to neomycin.
  3. Prednisolone is a hormonal component (glucocorticoid) that provides local anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative (decongestant) and anti-allergic effects.

Additionally, Terzhinan vaginal tablets contain excipients (clove and geranium oils), which maintain the integrity of epithelial tissues during inflammatory and infectious processes and keep pH levels within the physiological norm. In the absence of an excipient, penetration of the active substances into the vaginal mucosa would be difficult, and therefore the therapeutic effect of the drug would not be as pronounced. In addition, geranium and clove oils help destroy protozoa (chlamydia and trichomonas), which multiply in the vaginal mucosa.

The cheapest similar products for women

Terzhinan is in a high price segment, so for many patients a course of therapy with Terzhinan is very expensive. There are analogs of Terzhinan that are several times cheaper than the original.

Meratin Combi is an antibacterial and antiseptic drug that is effectively used in gynecology. The following microorganisms are sensitive to the drug:

  • trichomonas and lamblia;
  • amoebas and anaerobic microorganisms - clostridia, cocci, bacteroides.

The medication destroys the membranes of microbes, which leads to their death. Medicines are prescribed for the treatment of such pathologies:

  • vaginitis and vaginosis of bacterial etiology;
  • trichomoniasis and candidiasis.

The drug is also used for prophylaxis before surgical treatment of gynecological diseases, the procedure for installing intrauterine devices and vaginal diagnostics, as well as for sanitation of the birth canal on the eve of childbirth or before an abortion procedure.

The following medications are not prescribed:

  • if you are allergic to components in the medicine;
  • women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy.

With restrictions, Meratin Combi suppositories can be used in therapy for women in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy and while breastfeeding a child.

The tablet must be inserted into the vagina using an applicator once a day before bedtime, after soaking it for a few seconds in warm water. After its administration, you need to lie down for 12-20 minutes. At the time of menstrual flow, you should not interrupt treatment. The standard medication course lasts 10 days.

Very rarely, women report side effects from using the medication, but the manufacturer noted the following negative effects of the drug:

  • skin allergies;
  • discomfort and burning at the injection site;
  • formation of intravaginal erosions;
  • atrophy of the vaginal mucosa;
  • slower wound healing.

Polygynax

Polygynax vaginal capsules are produced on the basis of the active ingredients - nystatin, neomycin and polymyxin B. Polygynax is used for the treatment of the following infectious and inflammatory pathologies:

  • vulvovaginitis and cervicovaginitis;
  • vaginitis of fungal origin;
  • vaginitis caused by mixed infections.

The drug Polygynax is also used to prevent the development of infection:

  • before the abortion procedure.

It is prohibited to prescribe Polygynax to women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy and in case of hypersensitivity to the drug.

Prescribed with great caution in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, as well as for women during breastfeeding

When using a medication in treatment, it is necessary to concentrate on the fact that the medication reduces or completely blocks the effect of local contraceptives, and there is also a high risk of damage to the condom. Treatment with Polygynax increases the risk of unwanted pregnancy

Polygynax is used by intravaginal injection of a capsule, which is inserted deep into the vagina before bedtime. After inserting the vaginal capsule (1 piece), you need to lie in a horizontal position for 10-15 minutes. Therapy can last 10-12 days. For prevention, Polygynax can be taken for 5-6 days.

When using capsules, side effects may develop:

  • itching and burning;
  • hyperemia of the vaginal mucosa;
  • development of allergic erythema.

Symptoms of allergic reactions on the skin may also appear - hives, reddened areas and itching of the skin.

Indications for use

Most often, the drug is prescribed for vaginitis, inflammatory diseases of the vaginal mucosa. The cause may be different infections:

  • Candidal vaginitis is formed due to the activity of opportunistic microflora, which is represented by fungi of the genus Candida.
  • Trichomoniasis of the vagina is transmitted mainly through sexual contact due to the development of the simplest single-celled microorganisms Trichomonas.
  • Bacterial vaginitis - occurs due to a decrease in the number of beneficial lactobacilli in the vagina.

Sometimes the reason for prescribing the drug is ureaplasma, the reappearance of colpitis (it is also commonly called nonspecific vaginitis). In combination with other medications, it allows you to achieve the best results.

The prophylactic use of Terzhinan suppositories is also practiced. Reviews from doctors agree that the drug copes well with its task - it prevents the risk of infection in the vagina. This is especially true during the period of preparation for surgery, before childbirth, the introduction of an intrauterine device, abortion, and hysterography.

Clotrimazole is contraindicated in patients who are sensitive to its composition and in pregnant women.

The drug has a number of adverse reactions:

  • pain in the lower parts of the stomach;
  • rash;
  • itching

The pharmacological effect of the drug is due to a disruption in the formation of ergosterol, a component that is part of the membrane of fungal cells, subsequently changing the permeability and further elimination of the cell.

The drug exhibits high therapeutic activity against dermatophytes, yeast-like fungi Candida, as well as mold fungi and pathogens of lichen versicolor.

Capsules with lactobacilli

Contraindications and side effects

Terzhinan is prescribed in the following situations:

  • Treatment of vaginitis caused by flora sensitive to the drug (including trichomoniasis, thrush, chlamydia, bacterial vaginosis).
  • Prevention of vaginitis before gynecological procedures (installation of an intrauterine device, surgical treatment of cervical pathology, childbirth, abortion).

Suppositories have no contraindications, with the exception of individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Treatment with the drug is carried out in several cases:

  • with bacterial vaginitis;
  • in the complex treatment of colpitis developing under the influence of chlamydia;
  • with thrush or otherwise fungal vaginitis;
  • with mixed forms of vaginal inflammation.

Due to its combined composition, Terzhinan is often prescribed if inflammation is caused by the proliferation of several groups of pathogenic microorganisms - fungi, bacteria, trichomonas.

Terzhinan is used not only for treatment, but also for the prevention of vaginitis. In the latter case, the drug is often prescribed to be taken before instrumental interventions in the uterus and vagina - abortions, gynecological manipulations and operations. The medicine is contraindicated for use in only two cases:

  • if the patient’s age is less than 16 years;
  • in case of individual hypersensitivity to any of the components of the medication.

Terzhinan during pregnancy in the 1st trimester, that is, up to 12 weeks, should be prescribed to the patient only by a doctor. The drug is used at this time only if its potential benefit is higher compared to the possible risk of penetration of the active ingredients into the placenta.

Terzhinan during pregnancy in the 2nd trimester can be used without fear, but in full compliance with the instructions for use. Very often, suppositories are prescribed to women with changes in the smear in the last weeks before childbirth. The purpose of this use of the medication is to prevent infection of the child during its passage through the birth canal.

Treatment of thrush with Terzhinan is carried out for certain indications. As a rule, gynecologists prescribe it in the following cases:

  1. Thrush.
  2. Colpitis.
  3. For the purpose of prevention during the development of the inflammatory process.
  4. After the IUD is inserted, tablets can also be administered for prophylactic purposes.
  5. Inflammation of the appendages.
  6. After treatment for uterine erosion.
  7. Trichomonas vaginitis.

It is allowed to use the drug while pregnant, breastfeeding, and during menstruation.

Treatment of thrush with terzhinan almost always goes well and there are actually very few contraindications. The only limitation is hypersensitivity to any component that is included in the tablets. As a rule, the female body tolerates the drug well.

The only condition is the correct dosage, as well as the frequency of use of the medicine. If suspicious symptoms occur, you must visit a medical facility and inform your doctor.

In order for drug treatment to be justified, you must first undergo a series of examinations and pass the necessary tests. Thanks to this, it is possible to identify the exact causative agent of the disease and establish sensitivity to the drug. If during research it turns out that the pathogens are not sensitive to the drug, then it can be taken. After a course of treatment, it is necessary to undergo a re-examination to ensure that the therapy was successful.

Under no circumstances replace Terzhinan with other drugs on your own without first consulting your doctor. If you have any questions regarding the use of the drug, be sure to ask your doctor. By following all the recommendations and observing the rules of treatment, you will quickly get rid of the unpleasant disease.

Conclusions on available generic drugs

The studied French-made medication has a sufficient number of positive reviews from the fairer sex who have used it. The only disadvantage noted was its high cost, which prevents less wealthy patients from purchasing the drug.

But on the Russian pharmacy market there is a sufficient share of manufacturers producing more affordable generics. This allows the treatment process to be carried out with low financial costs.

Gynecological diseases should not be shelved, but treated as soon as possible. Before this, you need to visit a doctor who can accurately diagnose and determine the appropriate medicine.

Consumer Reviews

Many people are interested in how to use Terzhinan during pregnancy? Reviews from women and doctors agree that it is first necessary to consult with the supervising gynecologist about the advisability of their use. It is advisable to first undergo a course of therapy with a more gentle method of treatment. If it does not give positive results and the pregnancy has “passed” the first trimester, then this drug can be prescribed.

Women who have been unable to find a suitable drug for the treatment of sexually transmitted infections for a long time are recommended to undergo an antibiotic sensitivity test. Most likely the reason lies in the fact that the body has already received therapy before and the viruses have developed immunity to the active components. By the way, experienced doctors share the same opinion.

There have also been a large number of positive reviews from gynecologists who prescribe Terzhinan to their patients in combination with other medications. Especially if they include immunomodulatory agents, lactobacilli. All together they allow you to achieve a positive effect and at the same time do not cause harm to the body.
