Spazmalgon - instructions for use, price, reviews, analogues, indications and contraindications

pharmachologic effect

The described analgesic is a combination of 3 basic ingredients. Spasmalgon in ampoules and tablets contains identical components:

  1. Metamizole sodium is a pyrazolone derivative. This is a non-steroidal analgesic substance with a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. Another thing that Spazmalgon helps with is hyperthermia. The antipyretic (antipyretic) effect is explained by the correction of the thermoregulation center in the hypothalamus.
  2. Pitophenone hydrochloride is a piperidine derivative. This chemical compound works similarly to papaverine. It reduces the tone of smooth muscles and relaxes them. This ingredient is responsible for relieving pain caused by spastic contractions of the muscles of internal organs.
  3. Phenpiverinium bromide is an M-anticholinergic blocker with quaternary nitrogen in the structure. The component is also an antispasmodic. Additionally, it reduces the intensity of intestinal and gastric motility, relaxes the smooth muscles of the biliary and urinary tract.

Spazmalgon consists of 3 components - metamizole sodium, pitofenone hydrochloride and fenpiverinium bromide. The complex action of these active ingredients achieves the effect of relieving muscle spasms. So:

  1. Metamizole acts as an analgesic, antipyretic and, to a small extent, has an anti-inflammatory effect, primarily in relation to the smooth muscles of the genitourinary muscles.
  2. Pitofenon has an effect on the smooth muscles of the biliary and urinary tracts, relaxing the stomach, thereby reducing pain.
  3. Phenpiverinium has the ability to reduce muscle tone. These three components, when combined in Spazmalgon, enhance each other’s active action.

The drug contains metamizole sodium, pitofenone (antispasmodic myotropic agent) and fenpiverinium bromide (m-anticholinergic agent).

Spazmalgon tablets contain 500 mg, 5 mg and 100 mcg of active ingredients, respectively. Additional elements are: gelatin, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, wheat starch, sodium bicarbonate, talc.

The solution contains active ingredients in the amount of:

  • 500 mg 20 mcg 2 mg;
  • 1000 mg 40 mcg 4 mg;
  • 2500 mg 100 mcg 10 mg.

And also injection water.

Non-narcotic analgesic and antispasmodic agent.

How does Spazmalgon work?

The above active chemical compounds mutually enhance the effects they produce. This determines the way Spazmalgon works and its mechanisms of action. The ingredients of the tablets are well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and have high bioavailability. 30-120 minutes after administration, the maximum concentration of components in the blood plasma is reached, and the medicine begins to work. When administered by injection, the process is accelerated, and bioavailability increases to 85-90%.

Spasmalgon for headaches

The main cause of the described syndrome is tension in the vascular walls, their strong compression, which causes a deterioration in blood flow. Headache is one of the things that Spazmalgon helps with quickly and effectively. The medication relaxes the walls of blood vessels and restores the normal intensity of the flow of biological fluid. Spazmalgon headache tablets help with the following types of headaches:

  • tension (tension);
  • migraine;
  • cluster;
  • hypertensive (due to increased intracranial pressure).

The medicine will relieve pain even against the background of external unfavorable factors:

  • overwork;
  • cooling the body;
  • mechanical damage to the head;
  • stress;
  • insomnia;
  • congenital circulatory problems;
  • chronic vascular pathologies.

Spasmalgon for toothache

In this situation, even the injection form of this medicine does not help. The answer to the question whether Spazmalgon helps with toothache is often negative. The only thing it will be slightly effective against is inflammation of soft tissues in the oral cavity, such as gums. In other cases, the drug acts too weakly; it is better to replace it with strong combined analgesics as prescribed by the dentist.

Spasmalgon during menstruation

Menstrual pain occurs from tension of smooth muscles, so they feel like pulling. Algodismenorrhea is another condition that Spazmalgon helps with. The pharmacological agent quickly relieves discomfort, relaxing the muscles, and normalizes slightly elevated body temperature. Spasmalgon can be used throughout the entire painful period, but it is better to limit it to 2-4 days. If the medication does not help, you should consult a gynecologist and find out other possible causes of the problem.

How quickly does Spazmalgon work?

The speed with which relief occurs after taking the medicine depends on the individual characteristics of the body, physical indicators, metabolism, and the intensity of discomfort. Spasmalgon works almost immediately for headaches, menstrual pain, and elevated body temperature. After 30-45 minutes, an analgesic effect is observed. The rest, which the drug helps with, especially acute digestive colic, takes longer to eliminate, within 1-1.5 hours.

At what pressure should you take Indapamide?

Magnesia is an effective remedy that dilates blood vessels in a short time. This will help normalize blood pressure, which affects a large number of people. This disorder is provoked by poor emotional state, weather conditions, illness, gestation, menopause - there are many reasons. As a result, a person feels dizzy and has a headache, feels nauseous, has a whistling sound in his ears, and his heartbeat accelerates. To quickly relieve the condition, you need to use magnesium to reduce blood pressure. What is its peculiarity?

Properties of the drug

Magnesia is nothing more than magnesium sulfate. It is introduced into the human body intramuscularly. This procedure is performed to reduce blood pressure. After it, the following changes occur in the body:

  • coronary arteries dilate;
  • vascular spasms are reduced;
  • heart rate returns to normal;
  • the person calms down.

Magnesia is often called a hot shot. This is due to the fact that during the administration of the drug, heat is felt throughout the body.

Injection rules

Mostly a 25% solution is used. An anesthetic drug is used to inject the product into the muscles, as this procedure is quite painful. Lidocaine or Novocaine is often taken for this purpose.

There are 2 methods of administration:

  • consistent;
  • simultaneous.

In the first case, an anesthetic is initially used, and then magnesia itself. During the simultaneous method, these agents are combined in one syringe. Usually you need to take an ampoule of anesthetic for an ampoule of magnesium.

In order for the medication administration procedure to be carried out correctly, the following rules must be followed:

The patient should lie down and relax the buttocks. The prepared solution should be at body temperature. To do this you need to hold it in your hands. The buttock area is divided into 4 particles. The needle must be inserted into the upper part, which is distant from the axis of the body

This place must be treated, for which an antiseptic is used (for example, vodka or alcohol). It is important that a sterile needle is used. It is inserted into the body at a right angle. This injection is given slowly

The whole procedure lasts more than 2 minutes.

Interaction with other drugs

Spasmalgon and non-narcotic analgesics, when taken simultaneously, can lead to increased toxic effects of the drugs. Allopurinol, COCs, tricyclic antidepressants disrupt the metabolism of metamizole in the liver, resulting in increased toxicity. Inducers of microsomal liver enzymes reduce the effectiveness of metamizole.

Tranquilizers and sedatives increase the severity of the analgesic effect. The simultaneous use of cyclosporine and spasmalgon reduces the concentration of the former in the blood. Spasmalgon enhances the effect of ethanol. Concomitant use with phenothiazine derivatives increases body temperature. Cytostatics and thiamazole increase the risk of developing leukopenia. The effectiveness of the drug is increased by H2-histamine receptor blockers, codeine, propranolol.

Simultaneous use of the drug with other NSAIDs increases its toxic effect. The same can be said about TCAs, hormonal estrogen-containing contraceptives. Barbiturates reduce the effectiveness of metamizole, sedatives and tranquilizers enhance the analgesic effect of the drug. Histamine H2 receptor blockers enhance the anticholinergic effect of the drug. Codeine also enhances the effect of the drug. It is not recommended to use Spazmalgon together with alcohol.

When treating urological and other diseases, it is necessary to take into account the compatibility of this drug with other drugs and a person’s individual intolerance.

Spazmalgon is incompatible with ethyl alcohol, and therefore with all medications containing it. Therefore, taking Spazmalgon together with other medications should be strictly monitored by a doctor.

Pharmacological properties

The drug “Spazmalgon”, from which its combined effect is manifested, has antispasmodic, analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. The effectiveness of the product is due to the work of its active elements.

Thus, pitofenone hydrochloride exhibits a myotropic antispasmodic effect. The substance relaxes the smooth muscles of internal organs. Metamizole is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory component. It slows down cyclooxygenase and stops the production of prostaglandins, thromboxane and prostacyclin.

Fenpiverinium bromide, which is part of Spazmalgon injections and tablets, creates an anticholinergic effect and relaxes smooth muscles. The combined action of the active components enhances their properties.

Side effects

Taking Spazmalgon in correctly determined doses is tolerated normally. But there are times when it can provoke the following side reactions:

  • itching and skin rash;
  • stomach discomfort, flatulence;
  • dry mouth;
  • headaches, drowsiness;
  • low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat;
  • difficulty urinating (urine turns red);
  • visual impairment;
  • erythema.

An extended period of administration can cause the development of leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. People prone to bronchospasm are at risk of having an attack. Sometimes anaphylactic shock can occur.

Indications and features of the use of Spazmalgon

Many people take a Spazmalgon tablet “with or without reason” - their stomach hurts, they feel heaviness in their head, their muscles “ache.” In fact, in the official instructions for the drug in question there is a clear differentiation of the conditions for which Spazmalgon should be taken:

  • colitis occurring in a chronic form;

  • intestinal colic;
  • bladder spasm;
  • biliary dyskinesia;
  • spasm of the ureters;
  • condition after surgical removal of the gallbladder;
  • painful menstruation.

It is also possible to take the drug in question in acute cases of myalgia, sciatica, neuralgia, arthralgia, but only as a short-term treatment.

The doctor may prescribe Spazmalgon during the recovery period after surgery, or after diagnostic procedures that are accompanied by pain.

Special instructions for use

Taking the drug in question also has some features - these are not just recommendations, but instructions that should be strictly followed:

  1. If you are taking Spazmalgon, drinking alcoholic beverages is prohibited.

  2. In case of prolonged use of the drug in question, it is necessary to monitor the blood and liver - their condition may change. If during the follow-up examination thrombocytopenia or agranulocytosis is detected, then taking Spazmalgon should be stopped immediately.
  3. It is strictly forbidden to take the drug for acute abdominal pain - such a pathological condition may indicate the development of severe pathologies, and Spazmalgon will blur the clinical picture and complicate diagnosis.
  4. Intravenous administration of the drug is permitted only if there are problems with the absorption of Spasmalgon in the gastrointestinal tract. The Spazmalgon solution must be administered very slowly, the patient must be in a lying position during the procedure, and the medical professional must constantly monitor blood pressure readings.
  5. When taking the drug in question, the urine may turn red - this phenomenon has no clinical significance.
  6. When administering Spazmalgon intramuscularly, it is imperative to use a long needle.
  7. If Spazmalgon is taken not once, but as a therapeutic course, then drivers and people with a potentially dangerous profession need to be careful and ensure that there are no changes in physical and mental reactions.

Spazmalgon description of the drug

Spazmalgon is an analgesic antispasmodic drug popular in the post-Soviet space. It is often taken for migraines, pain in the stomach and intestines, painful periods and even hangovers. “Spazmalgon” is a combined drug that has a strong antispasmodic and analgesic effect on smooth muscles.

Spazmalgon is a combined drug with a strong antispasmodic and analgesic effect on smooth muscles

The drug is supplied to the market in two forms - as an injection solution (ampoules of 2 or 5 ml) and tablets. One blister contains 10 tablets, and the package can contain from 1 to 5 blisters. Each tablet of the drug "Spazmalgon" contains 500 mg of metamizole sodium, 5.0 mg of pitofenone hydrochloride and 0.1 mg of fenpiverinium bromide. In addition to the active substances, the tablet also contains auxiliary substances, such as starch, talc, gelatin and others. It is produced by two Bulgarian companies, which are part of the international holding Actavis (in the form of tablets) and Sopharma.

Metamizole sodium is an analgesic, has an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effect. Pitophenone hydrochloride has an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of vascular walls and internal organs (stomach, intestines, bladder, bile tract, uterus).

Fenpiverinium bromide has gangliolytic and parasympatholytic effects. It reduces motility, relieves tension in the stomach and intestines, and relaxes the smooth muscles of the gallbladder and biliary tract. All three drugs work in tandem and enhance each other's effects, relieving pain, relaxing smooth muscles and reducing fever.

“Spazmalgon” works best if you need to relieve pain associated with spasms of smooth muscles or with minor inflammations and simple infections. You can also take Spazmalgon for pain in the stomach and intestines. It helps relax the smooth muscles of the walls of the digestive tract.

"Spazmalgon" is taken orally, usually after meals. The Spazmalgon tablet does not need to be ground into powder or chewed, but can simply be swallowed and washed down with water. If necessary, it is divided into parts in advance. Adults and children over 15 years of age are recommended to take 1-2 tablets 2-3 times a day. You should not take more than 6 tablets per day. At the beginning of pregnancy, when taking the drug, the risk of developmental abnormalities in the fetus is increased. And in the third trimester there is a danger of damage to the internal organs of the unborn child. In the second trimester of pregnancy, taking the drug is possible, but only after consultation with a doctor and under his supervision.

Reviews from doctors

An effective and inexpensive antispasmodic. There are a large number of positive reviews about Spazmalgon. The drug is effective for toothaches, headaches, abdominal pain, and fever.

There is an opinion that only Spazmalgon helps with menstruation. When other medicines are powerless, it is he who comes to the rescue.

However, it is worth remembering the side effects caused by the medication.

Attention! The information presented in the article is for informational purposes only. The materials in the article do not encourage self-treatment. Only a qualified doctor can make a diagnosis and give treatment recommendations based on the individual characteristics of a particular patient.

Experts have come to the consensus that Spazmalgon is an excellent non-narcotic analgesic and antispasmodic agent. It perfectly, almost instantly, copes with pain and is not addictive.

Similar drugs

Many people, when they come to the pharmacy for an antispasmodic, try to find out from the pharmacist which is better Spazgan or Spazmalgon. The difference between these medications is not significant. It lies in the amount of active substances in the composition of the drugs. Their action is equally aimed at eliminating pain.

Other popular drug substitutes include:

  • Bral is a painkiller used for colic, spasms of the muscles of the urinary and bile ducts.
  • Bralangin is a powerful pain reliever. Often prescribed as part of complex therapy.
  • Baralgetas is a potent antispasmodic that quickly eliminates pain due to spasm of smooth muscles.

Patients should understand that by using Spazmalgon, headaches, intestinal spasms, pain in the bladder, renal and hepatic colic will go away quickly. But the underlying cause of persistent symptoms should be found out through testing and treated with other medications.

It is not advisable to endure a headache. When your head literally “breaks” and the usual remedies (Citramon) no longer help, you can use stronger drugs, for example, take a Spazmalgon tablet. The effect of Spazmalgon on headaches is somewhat similar to that of the long-known “troika”.

Contraindications

Despite the effectiveness of the antispasmodic, it is characterized by the presence of certain contraindications.

Drug overdose and measures to counteract the error

There are often cases when patients significantly exceed the permitted dose to relieve pain. If such a situation occurs, the picture of poisoning will differ from an overdose of drugs of similar groups.

The main symptom may be an allergy clinic mixed with a picture of acute poisoning. In this case, the symptoms of gastrointestinal tract damage fade into the background, and the patient is bothered by headaches, a drop in blood pressure, lack of consciousness and disturbances in the functioning of the cardiovascular system.

There is no standard antidote for such poisoning, and therefore first aid is provided in the old fashioned way:

  • gastric lavage with a large volume of warm alkaline or salt water;
  • massive doses of activated carbon, and, if necessary, a cleansing enema, control and stabilization of a woman’s vital functions and her blood pressure;
  • Massive poisoning with spasmalgon is most often possible in the form of suicide and requires medical care, including psychiatric care.

Use for stomach pain

You should not self-medicate; the dosage and duration of medication should be determined by a qualified physician, relying on the patient’s test results and his condition.

Usually, to relieve pain due to gastritis or other pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract, an antispasmodic drug is prescribed in 1-2 tablets. The medicine should be taken after meals; it is strictly not recommended to use Spazmalgon on an empty stomach. The next tablet can be taken no less than 6 hours later.

Very important! Savina G.: “I can recommend only one remedy for the quick treatment of ulcers and gastritis” read more.

  • Pitophenone. It has a pronounced antispasmodic effect, reduces tone and promotes relaxation of smooth muscles. Takes an active part in eliminating pain caused by spasms of contractile tissue of internal organs.
  • Metamizole sodium. It has a strong analgesic and antipyretic effect, helps relieve inflammation. The principle of operation of this component is the ability to inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenase, which entails a disruption of the metabolism of arachidonic acid and a decrease in the production of substances that provoke the inflammatory process. Thus, metamizole eliminates pain by reducing the effect of inflammatory mediators on pain endings.
  • Phenpiverinium bromide. This component of the drug reduces gastrointestinal motility and has a relaxing and antispasmodic effect.

There is no reliable data indicating the safety of using Spazmalgon during pregnancy.

The temptation to continue taking an effective pain reliever after joining the ranks of expectant mothers arises for many ladies. A nursing mother should choose an alternative or stop breastfeeding for at least a couple of days. A doctor's consultation is recommended to help you choose an analogue instead of Spazmalgon tablets when breastfeeding.

Analogs

If the patient has contraindications to the use of an antispasmodic, then he is recommended to use analogues

.

In most cases, patients are recommended to take:

  • Kaffetin,
  • Pentalgin,
  • Ketanov,
  • Ibuprofen.

Quite often, patients are prescribed Spazgan, which belongs to the category of analogues.

Spazgan and spasmalgon are characterized by the presence of antipyretic, analgesic and antispasmodic effects.
Since the drugs have the same amount of active substance in their composition, they have a similar effect. Spazgan and spasmalgon are also characterized by the same contraindications and undesirable effects. differences
are in the cost of the analgesic. Spazmalgon is a little more expensive than its counterpart.

Methods of using Spazmalgon

According to the instructions, Spazmalgon in tablet form is administered orally, without crushing the tablet, with plenty of water. According to indications, Spazmalgon can be taken in half the dose; to do this, break the tablet along the line.

Is spasmalgon useful for menstruation?

Since many representatives of the fair sex are bothered by pain during PMS or during menstrual bleeding, various painkillers come to the fore in the presence of such a problem. Does spasmalgon work adequately for this pathology?

This medicine is recommended for use in the presence of painful spasms of muscle tissue of various organs and systems:

  • First of all, experts advise using this drug in the treatment of pain syndrome accompanying various gastrointestinal pathologies. Spasmalgon is especially effective during attacks of intestinal colic, various gastric disorders, especially caused by a sharp contraction of the wall of the stomach and duodenum.
  • Quite often, this medicine is recommended for women whose kidneys and ureters are poorly functioning. This pathology can cause swelling of a variety of organs, so the use of spasmalgon is considered justified by most specialists.
  • In fairly rare cases, the anesthetic in question is used in the treatment of traumatic diseases. This is most often due to the lack of a muscle group that can be affected by this drug.
  • It should be noted that pain relief when using this analgesic is achieved not by blocking nerve endings, but by reducing spasm of the smooth muscles of the uterus. Therefore, the answer to the question whether spasmalgon helps with menstruation is a resounding yes.
  • And, of course, various pathologies of the liver, bile ducts, kidneys and ureters. The functions of these organs are different, but the tissue structure is the same. Therefore, spasmalgon has an excellent effect on the smooth muscles that form the basis of the mentioned organs.

The pharmacy chain has a large selection of fairly stronger painkillers, but the presence of a component for relieving smooth muscle spasms makes spasmalgon almost indispensable in the treatment of intense pain associated with menstruation.

Undesirable effects

A person must clearly know what helps

medicine, since its use may lead to the development of undesirable effects.

In most cases, they manifest themselves in the form of disturbances in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract - nausea, vomiting, pain in the abdomen. Patients notice that the urine takes on a bright red hue.

Some patients experience worsening urination. If nephritis occurs in the body, this can cause its exacerbation.

Improper use of an antispasmodic can cause disorders in the cardiovascular system. Patients may be diagnosed with arrhythmia. Sometimes patients complain of high blood pressure. Irrational use of antispasmodics can cause anemia.

The nervous system may be affected by Spazmalgon and insomnia may occur. You may experience irritability or frequent mood swings. In patients, undesirable effects appear on the skin. They complain of the appearance of rashes that are very itchy. Treatment may also be accompanied by urticaria or dermatitis.

Spasmalgon is characterized by the presence

a large number of unwanted effects, so it is recommended to consult a doctor before taking it.

Spazgan or Spazmalgon

Many patients are interested in the question of which is better: Spazgan or Spazmalgon? These drugs differ depending on the country of origin. In the first case, the company is located in India, and in the second, in Bulgaria. At the same time, Spazgan can be bought somewhat cheaper than Spazmalgon.

Another difference is the amount of active substance in the medicine, although this indicator is not very significant. Unless the patient has a high sensitivity of the body to the components. Both the first and second drugs cope well with eliminating menstrual pain syndrome, as well as migraine attacks.

Composition of Spazmalgon, dosage forms and pharmacological action

It is the multicomponent composition of Spazmalgon that explains the speed of blocking pain, as well as the relaxation of muscle spasms and the reduction of temperature:

  • Pitophenone - has the same effect as papaverine. It allows you to relax the smooth muscles of the organs. The substance is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Its maximum content is reached after 45 minutes.
  • Metamizole is a pyrazolone derivative. This component reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins, relieves pain and inflammation. After absorption, the substance binds to blood proteins by 55%. In addition, it may be excreted into breast milk. Metabolic products are excreted through the kidneys.
  • Fenpiverinium has an anticholinergic, antispasmodic effect, with relaxation of the smooth muscles of the stomach. An hour after taking the medicine, the concentration of the substance reaches its maximum. Excretion occurs through urine and bile.

Within 15-40 minutes after the medicine enters the body, pain decreases. In this case, the therapeutic effect is achieved after 1-1.5 hours. The effect of the drug wears off within 6-10 hours.

With long-term treatment, it is necessary to monitor the state of the blood (leukocyte content), as well as liver function. If signs of hematopoietic disorders appear, the medication should be discontinued.

We suggest you read: What time to take cardiomagnyl in the morning or evening: medications, prescriptions, suppositories, tablets

It is necessary to stop drinking alcohol for the period of treatment, as well as driving a vehicle and performing work that requires increased attention.

In the instructions you can find information about compatibility with other medications:

  • antidepressants (tricyclics) increase toxicity;
  • codeine, sedatives and tranquilizers can enhance the effect of Spasmalgon;
  • chlorpromazine and phenothiazine can provoke hypothermia;
  • barbiturates, Fethylbutazone reduce the activity of metamizole;
  • if you take Spazmalgon together with Thiamazole and cytostatics, leukopenia may occur;

The main reason to refuse Spazmalgon is individual intolerance to its constituent components; it is necessary to carefully study the composition. Among the leading contraindications are:

  • disruptions in the hematopoietic system (agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia);
  • upcoming surgery;
  • intestinal obstruction;
  • atony;
  • tendency to faint;
  • tachycardia, arrhythmia;
  • enlarged colon;
  • hepatic acute porphyria;
  • collapse;
  • severe liver failure;
  • pregnancy status;
  • underweight or infancy.

Long-term use of Spazmalgon, mainly in injection form, can provoke unpleasant consequences:

  • dry mouth, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, noise in the head;
  • exacerbation of ulcers, enterocolitis, gastritis;
  • tachycardia, increased blood pressure, arrhythmia;
  • irritability, passivity, dizziness, low mood, headache;
  • change in the amount and color of urine produced;
  • urticaria, anaphylactic shock, angioedema;
  • anemia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia.

Tablet forms of the drug do not tend to provoke the above-mentioned side symptoms, so you should not refuse to use the substance in tablets. A large list of contraindications and possible complications does not indicate the harm or terrible composition of the drug, but the responsibility of the manufacturers. It's clear that there has been some solid research when there is so much information available.

Spazmalgon tablets belong to Bulgarian companies, but their prices are affordable and not imported. The cost of an effective drug depends on the produced form and container volume:

  • small package (20 tablets) – 100-150 rubles,
  • large package (50 tablets) – 250-290 rubles,
  • small ampoules (10 pieces, 2 ml each) – 230-270 rubles,
  • large ampoules (10 pcs. 5 ml.) – 310-350 rub.
