Methods of use of Cholisal and precautions

Cholisal gel is used in dentistry. It relieves pain and inflammation at the same time. Indicated for gingivitis, periodontitis, seizures, to facilitate teething in children and adults, to eliminate the consequences of dental operations, and dental prosthetics. It is used in the complex treatment of thrush, stomatitis, and lichen planus.

After rinsing and drying, apply to the affected area 2-3 times a day. For children, a column of up to 0.5 cm is needed, and for adults – 1 cm. The application is carried out before meals to facilitate chewing, after meals and at night. The course of treatment is 7-10 days. Use with caution in children under one year of age, pregnant and lactating women.

What is the difference between Cholisal and Cholisal Dental

Many people do not pay attention to one additional word in the name of the drug. How exactly Cholisal differs from Cholisal Dental can be determined by comparing the indications for use and the composition of these two medicines. The presence of the word Dental determines the specific focus of one of the types of medications. Dental means dental, that is, for the oral cavity. However, if you compare the insert papers from the two medications, there are practically no differences from each other. It should be noted that there is also Holisal Dental for children. Although the other two types of medicine are allowed to be used by children over one year old, during the eruption of the first teeth at the age of six to eight months, it is advisable to use the children's version.

What is Cholisal?

Cholisal gel is a broad-spectrum dental preparation. It has several key properties:

  • elimination of inflammatory processes;
  • infection control;
  • analgesic effect.

The main difference from numerous analogues is that it is suitable for children. We will return to this issue later.

Recommendations

Reviews and instructions for the Cholisal gel are only general in nature - for various diseases there are certain features of using the product. That is why it is best to consult a dentist before use.

For example, if periodontitis or gingivitis is detected, the product is used exclusively as part of a comprehensive treatment. If you neglect this rule and use the medication without removing plaque and tartar, the inflammation will decrease, but then become chronic, which can lead to the destruction of bone tissue. The standard therapeutic course lasts approximately 10 days.

In the case of stomatitis treatment, it is advisable to use a gel to reduce pain in the erosion zone. The remedy will not cope with the ulcers themselves, especially the aphthous or herpetic type. In case of wisdom teeth eruption, the gel helps eliminate pain, but before using it you need to make sure that there is no pus in the hood and that the cheek is not swollen. If such symptoms occur, you should go to a surgeon rather than try to correct the situation with medications.

Application for stomatitis

To treat aphthous stomatitis, which is often caused by allergies, it is reasonable to use antiallergic drugs. "Cholisal-gel" will only help to numb the affected areas, but will not cope with the problem.

For herpetic stomatitis, the cause of which is the herpes virus, it is more advisable to use antiviral drugs for treatment. Although “Cholisal” gel has an antiviral effect, which is very limited, it will help relieve soreness of the affected tissues.

Peculiarities

Often the medicine is used as a preventive measure to prevent various injuries. It is advisable to use the product, for example, when wearing dental onlays, braces, or dentures. After all, because of them, the oral cavity is regularly damaged, in particular, the inner side of the cheeks and gums. Although numerous ulcers, wounds and cracks may appear due to exposure to other conditions:

  • overly susceptible mucous membrane;
  • improper brushing of teeth;
  • eating food that injures the surface, for example, crackers, nuts, chips, seeds;
  • smoking, which worsens the general condition of the mouth;
  • metabolic pathologies.

Systematic use of Cholisal gel improves blood flow in tissues. They gradually begin to receive biologically active substances and nutritional products. Injured cells are regenerated quite quickly, and tissue healing is significantly accelerated.

Description of the drug

Holisal Dental is one of the representatives of the therapeutic line of dental products. A Polish manufacturer produces a drug for the prevention of damage to the oral mucosa. When wearing dentures, braces, or dental onlays, the gums and inner surface of the cheeks are often injured. Cracks, wounds, ulcers can occur under the influence of other external and internal unfavorable factors:

  • overly sensitive mucous membrane;
  • improper brushing of teeth;
  • eating food that injures the mucous membrane, for example, seeds, chips, salted nuts;
  • smoking, which worsens the condition of the oral cavity;
  • diseases occurring against the background of metabolic disorders.

Course use of the drug helps improve blood circulation in the tissues. They begin to receive biologically active compounds and nutrients. Damaged epithelial cells are quickly restored, tissue healing is accelerated.

You cannot compare Holisal Dental and Metrogyl Denta.

The latter is included in the group of pharmacological drugs for the treatment of dental pathologies. It will contain components that have bactericidal and antimycotic effects. Cholisal Denta exhibits such clinical activity to a much lesser extent. It is intended more for prevention, and is used in therapy as an adjuvant.

We recommend

In the article we will talk about the medicinal properties and use of Metrogyl Denta gel, an effective dental preparation with pronounced antimicrobial properties.

Clinical and pharmacological group

The gel refers to medications used to prevent dental diseases. It restores the integrity of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and prevents the development of the inflammatory process. Shows weak antimicrobial activity. Regular use of cosmetics helps maintain healthy mucous membranes.

Cholisal Dental contains ingredients that mutually enhance and prolong pharmacological actions. The drug is characterized by antiseptic activity. When the mucous membranes are injured, pathogenic bacteria quickly penetrate into the wounds. And with a decrease in immunity, they may become infected with pathogenic yeast-like fungi. This causes:

  • development of acute inflammatory process;
  • occurrence of dental diseases.

Most often, dentists diagnose gingivitis and stomatitis in such cases. After applying the gel to the gums, the oral cavity is sanitized. It is cleared of pathogenic microorganisms, and the affected tissues are gradually restored.

pharmachologic effect

The pharmacological properties of Cholisal Dental are based on the therapeutic activity of the ingredients. The cosmetic product contains aprotinin. It neutralizes the effects of adverse external factors on the oral mucosa. This organic compound inhibits broad-spectrum proteolytic enzymes. Aprotinin significantly reduces the activity of plasma and tissue enzymes. It is characterized by pronounced hemostatic effectiveness:

  • inhibition of the contact phase of coagulation activation;
  • decreased fibrinolytic activity of the blood.

If blood appears on the gums while brushing your teeth, dentists recommend using Holisal Dental. This problem often occurs when wearing braces that rub the mucous membranes of the gums. The cosmetic product quickly stops bleeding and accelerates the healing of damage. The therapeutic effect of aprotinin is also enhanced by other components of Holisal Dental:

  • propylene glycol. The chemical compound has the ability to retain water molecules in tissues. Propylene glycol moisturizes mucous membranes and protects them from drying out. It is the lack of moisture in the tissues that becomes the main cause of injury. Regular use of Cholisal Dental protects the gums, tongue, and inner surface of the cheeks from damage. Propylene glycol also exhibits weak antibacterial and antimycotic activity;
  • peppermint essential oil. The chemical composition of the plant is represented by menthol, organic acids, and bioflavonoids. After contact with mucous membranes, peppermint oil irritates cold receptors and stimulates the constriction of superficial blood vessels. It has pronounced antiseptic properties. When using Holisal Dent, the oral cavity is regularly cleansed of harmful bacteria and fungi.

This is interesting: The benefits of swimming or 11 reasons to be healthy!
The presence of a plant component in a cosmetic product strengthens local immunity. A course of use of Cholisal Denta increases the resistance of mucous membranes to bacterial, viral, and fungal infectious agents. The ability of aprotinin to inhibit enzymes that stimulate the synthesis of cytokines has been clinically confirmed. It is these bioactive compounds that are responsible for the development of gum inflammation.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

After applying Holisal Dent to the gums, its ingredients are immediately absorbed by the mucous membranes. This is clearly noticeable by the instant cooling effect of the cosmetic product. It acts on receptors located in the submucosal layer, providing an analgesic effect. Local anesthetic and distracting activity occurs 3-10 minutes after application of the drug.

The ingredients of the dental gel do not penetrate the bloodstream. This explains the small number of contraindications and side effects. The action of Holisal Dent lasts about 2-3 hours. The components are metabolized in liver cells and are evacuated from the body with urine and feces.

Release form and composition

Holisal Dental is produced at a Polish pharmaceutical factory. It is packaged in aluminum tubes, each of which contains 15 ml of product. The drug is a gel with a jelly-like substance and a specific menthol odor. Secondary packaging is a cardboard box with instructions for use inside. The presence of any foreign inclusions is not allowed.

The composition of Holisal Dental is represented by the following active and auxiliary components:

  • distilled water;
  • propylene glycol;
  • hypromellose;
  • methyl parahydroxybenzoate;
  • essential peppermint oil;
  • propyl parahydroxybenzoate;
  • disodium edetate;
  • aprotinin;
  • sodium hydroxide.

Auxiliary ingredients ensure optimal absorption of aprotinin and peppermint oil into the mucous membranes. Some components enhance the healing properties of active substances.

The absence of dyes in the composition significantly reduces the list of contraindications for use.

Storage conditions and periods

Holisal Dental should be stored at room temperature in places protected from sunlight. Small children who may be attracted to the sweet taste and strong aroma should not have access to it. The shelf life of the cosmetic product is 24 months. Do not use it if a foreign odor appears, color or consistency changes.

Indications for use of the drug Cholisal

  • stomatitis of various etiologies (including recurrent aphthous (ulcerative) stomatitis);
  • gingivitis of various etiologies (including acute ulcerative-necrotic Vincent gingivitis, chronic edematous gingivitis, hyperplastic and atrophic (desquamatous) gingivitis);
  • acute and chronic periodontitis;

Composition and its features

The main components of the dental gel "Cholisal":

1) Choline salicylate.

2) Cetalkonium chloride.

Additional components: methyl parahydroxybenzoate, hyethylose, anise seed oil, glycerol, water, ethanol.

Choline salicylate blocks inflammation in the gums and oral mucosa. That is, “Dental-gel” acts outside and inside tissues, unlike other dental gels. In addition, this active component of the composition has an antifungal and antimicrobial effect, has an analgesic and antipyretic effect (choline salicylate is not able to lower the temperature below normal).

Cetalkonium chloride is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial component.

A distinctive feature of the components of the composition of this dental gel is good penetration into tissues for an anti-inflammatory effect both inside and outside the affected area and good retention of the gel on the oral mucosa (the gel does not slip off or is not washed off by saliva).

Unlike most similar drugs, this gel does not contain lidocaine, which causes numbness in the entire oral cavity, which is very undesirable, especially for young children.

"Cholisal-gel" is a unique dental drug that relieves inflammation and relieves pain at the same time.

Impact

Before you start using this or that medication, you need to familiarize yourself with the full spectrum of effects on the body. Cholisal Dental gel for the care of the oral mucosa effectively fights against numerous diseases, if for each specific case you select another suitable medicine. If you use only it, you may not completely get rid of the disease. After all, the remedy only speeds up the recovery of the affected areas several times and helps to more easily endure all the painful and unpleasant symptoms of the disease. In general, it’s worth buying Holisal Dental because it:

  • It is a strong antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent;
  • Effectively eliminates pain in a short time;
  • Can be easily applied to affected areas without fear of swallowing;
  • Quickly penetrates deep into tissues and kills viruses, eliminates inflammatory processes.

Reviews

Ekaterina, Pyatigorsk: I recently went to the doctor with the question of which is better - Metrogyl Denta or Holisal Dental for gingivitis. The dentist said that only Metrogyl Denta should be used for therapeutic purposes. It will quickly eliminate pain, inflammation and swelling of the gums.

Anna, Kursk: I use Holisal Dental every day because I wear braces. It prevents chafing and the development of stomatitis. I love that it leaves my breath fresh for hours.

We recommend

In the article we will talk about the medicinal properties and use of Metrogyl Denta gel, an effective dental preparation with pronounced antimicrobial properties.

Interesting facts about teeth

  • The first teeth were called “milk” by Hippocrates. The name is directly related to breastfeeding. The great philosopher believed that they are formed only through breastfeeding. He was right! Without the huge proportion of calcium contained in mother's milk, the formation of not only milk teeth, but also molars is impossible.
  • Teeth remain healthy only thanks to saliva. It normalizes the acid-base balance and kills germs.
  • Prosthetics for damaged teeth began in ancient times in Egypt and Rome. They used both animal teeth as crowns and structures made of expensive metals in the form of bridge prostheses.

About the drug

Cholisal is widely used in dental practice; it can be purchased without much difficulty at any pharmacy. The drug has a complex effect, which can be expressed in the provision of:

  • Anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Analgesic properties.
  • Antifungal, antimicrobial and antiviral action.

Cholisal is intended for topical use.

Release form

The drug is available in the form of a transparent gel with a pronounced anise aroma, enclosed in a 10 ml aluminum tube.

Compound

The main active components of the gel are cholicin salicylate and tsetalkonium chloride. These substances can relieve inflammation and pain. Once on the oral mucosa, the drug, thanks to its active components, forms a protective film on it, which does not allow pathogenic microorganisms to penetrate deep into the tissues. The active ingredients also cause muscle numbness.

Indications for use

A doctor may prescribe Cholisal to a pregnant woman if she receives one of the following diagnoses:

  • Gingivitis.
  • Stomatitis.
  • Periodontitis and other infectious and inflammatory lesions of the oral cavity.
  • Candidiasis of the oral mucosa.
  • Injuries to the mucous membrane.
  • Upcoming dental surgeries.

Possible unwanted effects

The instructions prescribe using the drug with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, that is, the product must be recommended by a specialist, which involves monitoring its use and abandoning the gel, if necessary.

Thus, domestic medicine does not prescribe treatment with Cholisal gel during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Complications and negative consequences when using Cholisal gel were observed by practicing doctors extremely rarely. However, increased individual sensitivity to the ingredients of the drug can manifest itself as:

  • not a strong burning sensation in the areas where the product was applied;
  • redness;
  • itching

These side effects most often disappear within a few minutes.

However, when the first unwanted symptoms appear, experts recommend stopping using the gel, since the cause of an allergic reaction may be:

  • salicylates;
  • anise oil,

as well as other ingredients included in the product.

In addition, dentists advise using the optimal amount of the drug during procedures, avoiding overdose.

In addition, it should be taken into account that the use of cholisal with other analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antipyretic syrups can increase the concentration of active substances in the body, and an excess of antibiotics and antiseptics can also cause an allergic reaction.

Considering the free sale of Cholisal gel in pharmacies, before purchasing and using the drug, you should consult with a specialist, which will allow you to use the modern combined action product most effectively.

Contraindications, possible side effects and overdose

This medicine does not have many contraindications. Thus, it is strictly contraindicated only in the presence of individual intolerance to at least one of its components. This gel should be used with caution in children under 1 year of age, pregnant and nursing mothers.

Possible side effects include:

  • development of allergic reactions;
  • a short burning sensation in the areas where the drug was applied, which goes away on its own within a few minutes.

No cases of overdose with Cholisal have been identified.

Cholisal gel for teething

Using the drug when the first baby teeth appear in babies is quite dangerous, since the active work of the salivary glands will cause saliva flowing from the child’s mouth to irritate the delicate skin. In addition, excess saliva can lead to more tragic consequences, as the baby may choke.

However, at an older age, the use of a gel to anesthetize the process and relieve inflammation is quite justified.

Before applying the drug, it is recommended to dry the gum area with a swab and lightly apply the product. Usually, the procedure is repeated 3-4 times a day, but for children of the younger age group, experts advise using special products that are produced in the form of:

  • candles;
  • syrups;
  • tablets.

The appearance of wisdom teeth is also a rather painful process, however, the use of Cholisal gel in these cases is recommended if the following is not observed:

  • discharge of purulent masses;
  • swelling of the cheeks or gums;
  • pain when swallowing;
  • difficulty opening and closing the mouth;
  • temperature rise;
  • unpleasant smell

since, if such symptoms appear, you should immediately contact your dentist.

Let's sum it up

In general, Cholisal gel is a good drug that can relieve the symptoms of inflammation. If you do not perceive it as a panacea and do not try to use it for the treatment of periodontitis and stomatitis without specialized means, you will get the desired effect. It should not be used in children under one year of age or in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. By following these simple rules, you can count on receiving an anti-inflammatory and mild analgesic effect. However, we recommend consulting with an experienced professional and avoiding self-medication. By following your doctor's instructions, you will not harm yourself.

Gel Cholisal

This concludes our story. We wish you good health. Let problems with teeth and gums pass by. And don't forget about the need for regular inspections. By visiting the dentist just twice a year, you will complain about dental problems much less often!

Cholisal application and principle of action

The gel form used in the treatment of dental diseases allows for complex treatment of the oral cavity, since the active substances of the drug are capable of:

block inflammatory mediators in soft tissues;

  • effectively suppress the activity of pathogenic microflora;
  • anesthetize affected tissue areas.

Therefore, experts recommend Cholisal as one of the most effective means to eliminate several consequences of diseases.

In addition, the effectiveness of the composition can be enhanced by prescribing the use of the drug in conjunction with prescribed rinsing procedures with active antiseptics, for example, chlorhexidine.

In addition to its excellent healing properties, the use of the gel helps to provide:

  • prolonged effect of the drug on the mucous membranes;
  • high efficiency in eliminating inflammatory phenomena;
  • relief of painful sensations, which is facilitated by the rather viscous consistency of the composition, which helps the active substances to be quickly absorbed into the affected tissues, fighting foci of inflammation.

However, Cholisal, the price of which is quite high, cannot be used without appropriate doctor’s recommendations.

Cholisal gel, the instructions for use of which include purchasing the medicine without a prescription, can be successfully used to treat diseases in people of any age, but the smell and taste of anise oil can cause excessive salivation, therefore Cholisal is not recommended for use in infants.

Cholisal gel: instructions for use and indications for use

The antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effectiveness of the drug allows specialists to successfully use the drug in the treatment of such oral diseases as:

  • gingivitis;
  • periodontitis;
  • inflammation during the eruption of wisdom teeth;
  • inflammation of the mucous membranes as a result of wearing dentures;
  • traumatic injuries to the oral mucosa;
  • stomatitis,

It also helps reduce pain when molars appear in children.

For gingivitis and periodontitis

Based on the instructions for use of the drug, experts recommend using the gel in combination with other medicinal formulations and therapeutic measures.

So, when gingivitis or periodontitis is detected, in addition to cholisal, the following is usually prescribed:

  • removal of deposits;
  • antiseptic rinsing procedures;
  • using special cleaning pastes to reduce inflammation;

and in severe cases of the disease - antibacterial therapy.

Self-medication, which involves using only a gel composition, will not help complete recovery from the disease, but the disease can take a chronic form, which can cause tooth loss.

The course of treatment with Cholisal gel prescribed by the dentist is carried out for ten days. Applications are carried out twice a day, usually in the morning and evening hours, after eating, since the procedure requires:

  • thorough brushing of teeth;
  • mouth rinses with antiseptic agents;
  • drying the mucous surfaces of the gums

and only after this, apply the gel to the areas of inflammation.

The composition is applied both to the front and back walls of the gums, located on the side of the tongue, and such treatment requires avoiding the use of liquid for half an hour after the end of the procedure.

Some ingredients of the gel help increase salivation, so saliva should be swallowed without much fear, since the drug causes virtually no side effects.

How to use the gel

In general, using the medicine in question is not at all difficult. It is enough to know the main points that you should pay attention to, as well as adhere to some recommendations.

Did you know? Every 6 months a child develops approximately 4 teeth. In this case, the lower ones erupt before the upper ones.

For stomatitis

Stomatitis is a disease in which the oral mucosa becomes inflamed. This phenomenon requires immediate treatment.

At the first stage of the disease, the doctor may prescribe therapy with Cholisal gel. But if the disease has become chronic, then treatment with Cholisal alone will no longer be effective. In this situation, complex treatment will be required, which should also be compiled and prescribed by a medical specialist.

You can use the gel immediately after the first symptoms of stomatitis appear . As indicated in the instructions for use of "Cholisal" for children, it can help with both the bronchial and candidal stages of stomatitis.

If stomatitis is detected in a child, you need to use Cholisal twice a day. The gel should be rubbed into the affected areas with light movements. It is very important to use the drug only after meals and before going to bed. It is important to follow this rule so that the child does not swallow the gel with food, and also does not lick it off his gums with his tongue.

Important! The pharmacological drug "Cholisal" works effectively only at the early stage of development of stomatitis.
The chronic form should be cured only by a comprehensive method.

During teething

When a child's teeth begin to appear, the gel should be applied exactly to the places where the teeth should appear. Application of the product should be carried out with weak circular movements of the hands. The drug is absorbed by the mucous membrane quite quickly, immediately beginning to relieve inflammatory processes.

The swelling will noticeably decrease, and the child’s pain will subside. Pain relief occurs in a short time, literally in 2-3 minutes. The adhesive consistency of the drug is able to stay on the gums for a long time. In general, the pain subsides within about 7-8 hours.

It is recommended to apply the gel to the baby's gums 30-40 minutes before eating . As the pain subsides, the child will be able to eat in peace.

At the teething stage, children constantly put everything in their mouths, which significantly increases the risk of introducing various infections into the oral cavity. The Cholisal gel contains cetalkonium chloride, which works as a high-quality antiseptic and can destroy various pathogenic microflora.

An important point that you definitely need to pay attention to is the process of teething in infants. In this case, “Cholisal” should be applied immediately before feeding the baby. The drug will not affect the consumption of milk, since it does not have the property of being washed off by saliva.

Did you know? A child's first baby teeth usually begin to erupt between 6 and 10 months of age. All baby teeth will appear between the ages of 2.5 and 6 years. In girls, the process usually progresses faster than in boys.

Cholisal instructions for use

The gel is easy to use. According to the original instructions, Cholisal should be used as follows:

Adults apply a strip of the product up to 1 cm (children up to 0.5 cm) onto their finger, then distribute the gel over the surface of the affected area of the oral mucosa, rub the product in with light and massaging movements. The procedure must be carried out 2-3 times a day, but only after meals and before bed.

As you can see, the instructions tell you only the most important things about the application, but the method of using the gel in different clinical situations is completely different. Let's take a closer look.

1. Use of Cholisal for gum inflammation.

Gingivitis and periodontitis

– serious dental diseases that require complex therapy. Treatment should begin with removing deposits on the teeth, then you need to take courses of rinsing with antiseptics, include Cholisal in therapy and replace regular toothpastes with anti-inflammatory ones.

If you start using dental gel immediately, without affecting the cause of inflammation, then the effect of such therapy will be unjustified. Moreover, starting treatment with the gel can only worsen the situation, turning the disease into a chronic form.

Typically, gel therapy for gum inflammation lasts no more than 10 days. The product is applied twice a day - in the morning and evening, always after meals, rinsing with antiseptics and drying the gums with a gauze swab. After the procedure, you are not allowed to eat for the next 2 hours or drink for 30 minutes.

Cholisal, use for stomatitis

For herpetic stomatitis, Cholisal is used exclusively for pain relief from erosions. In case of aphthous stomatitis, there is no point in using the gel, since the disease occurs due to allergies.

3. Application of gel during teething

Adults, children and teenagers can relieve teething discomfort with Cholisal. It is not recommended to use the gel to relieve gum pain in infants, since anise oil stimulates excessive salivation, which can lead to irritation and choking.

The affected area must be treated with the product, after drying the mucous membrane with a gauze swab. The procedure can be repeated about 3-4 times a day. This medicine is used only in the absence of swelling of the cheeks, suppuration and other serious complications.

How to use Cholisal for stomatitis

The product is applied topically several times a day before meals. You cannot eat for 2-3 hours after applying the product, and you must not drink for at least 30 minutes.

Be sure to apply the product at night after brushing your teeth to ensure there is no pain during sleep.

The dosage for adults is a gel the size of a large bean, for children - the size of a pea. The drug must be applied from above to the foci of the disease. To treat the gums, it is recommended to take a new portion of the gel and rub it into the mucous membrane without excessive pressure.

During application, a short-term feeling of burning and discomfort sometimes occurs. Literally after a few minutes the unpleasant sensations disappear. The drug is recommended for use throughout the entire period of illness, as well as for prevention - in case of damage to the mucous membrane and an increased risk of developing stomatitis, gingivitis, inflammation or other dental diseases associated with infectious and inflammatory processes.

Pharmacological properties of the drug Cholisal

The drug uses the synergistic effect of components: anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antiseptic. The main active ingredient of the drug, choline salicylate, has a local anti-inflammatory and mild analgesic effect. The mechanism of the analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory action of salicylates is associated with inhibition of COX activity, as well as thromboxane synthetase activity. As a result, the synthesis of prostaglandins is inhibited, primarily prostaglandins E and F in tissues altered by inflammation, in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract and kidneys. Applied topically, in normal doses it does not have a systemic effect. Cetalkonium chloride enhances the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. The antiseptics included in the gel base, methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (in concentrations of 0.15 and 0.08%, respectively), have an antibacterial effect. Choline salicylate quickly penetrates the mucous membranes (approximately 2 times faster than acetylsalicylic acid). Salicylates easily penetrate most tissues and body fluids. They have a high affinity for blood proteins and tissues, binding (50–80%) to blood plasma albumins. The half-life of salicylates is 2–4 hours. The biotransformation of salicylates occurs in tissues, mainly in the liver to salicylic acid, from which salicylamic acid, glucuronides, acetal, and gentisic acid are formed. Biotransformation products are excreted in the urine (75% is salicylic uric acid). Approximately 10% of salicylates are excreted unchanged in the urine. Excretion occurs slowly, approximately 50% of the dose is eliminated within 24 hours.

special instructions

Despite the many advantages and high safety of the drug, dentists all recommend adhering to several rules:

  1. Gel in large doses can enhance the effect of antipyretics, analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs, so it is especially important to monitor the dose of the gel used if you take such drugs.
  2. Women during lactation and pregnancy, as well as children under 1 year of age, are advised to use the gel with caution.

When using Cholisal gel, it is important to consider the treatment rules:

  • if the drug causes soreness, burning, soreness or unusual symptoms, then you need to stop using it and consult a dentist;
  • applied only to the oral mucosa;
  • the course should not be more than 10 days;
  • Do not exceed the dose and number of applications per day;
  • if the pain does not subside, this means that there is a deep inflammatory process that requires special dental treatment;
  • Self-medication of teeth and gums often leads to complications.

If side effects occur, you should immediately consult a doctor. Also, drugs are used exclusively for medicinal purposes and only externally. The gels do not have a hypnotic effect and do not reduce a person’s activity or driving ability.

If you feel discomfort, you should not self-medicate; this will not lead to anything good, but will only delay treatment for a longer period. Without a correct diagnosis, therapy may not be started; time and money will be wasted.

If visiting a doctor is not possible due to some reason, strictly adhere to the instructions, taking into account contraindications. If the instructions do not contain a declared disease, then its use is pointless.

It is recommended to brush your teeth before rubbing in the gel.

Cholisala Dental is well tolerated by adults and children and does not have a local irritant effect.

The gel does not contain sugar.

Cholisal composition, release form

Cholisal is a modern dental drug with a pronounced analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect. The gel acquires its unique healing properties thanks to a combination of the following active ingredients:

  • Anise oil (1.6 mg per 1 g of gel) is a natural oil that has a calming effect on inflammation and kills pathogenic microorganisms;
  • cetalkonium chloride (87.1 mg per 1 g of gel) – a broad-spectrum antiseptic;
  • Choline salicylate (100 mcg per 1 g of gel) is an analgesic that also relieves inflammation.

Auxiliary components: 50 mg of glycerin, up to 1 g of water, 390 mg of ethyl alcohol, 20 mg of hyaetellose, 1.5 mg of methyloxybenzoate, 0.8 mg of propyl parahydroxybenzoate.

Why is this composition so good?

When most dental preparations that are used topically differ only in their superficial effect, Cholisal gel penetrates into the deep layers of the oral mucosa. This property is given to the gel by the active substance choline salicylate. The component formed from salicylic acid acts on the site of inflammation, blocking inflammatory mediators in the oral mucosa. The analgesic component has a light structure, so it penetrates quite deeply into the layers of the mucous membrane.

Cholisal gel acts simultaneously on bacteria, fungi and viruses; this universal property is given to it by a broad-spectrum antiseptic - cetalkonium chloride.

The product is available in gel form, 10 g in aluminum tubes, sealed cardboard packs.

Composition of the dental gel Cholisal

This unique drug is absolutely safe for children. The peculiarity of the Cholisal gel is that it does not contain lidocaine, which numbs not only the gums, but also the tongue. And this is very undesirable for a child, since sudden numbness can frighten the baby. The gel contains only gentle ingredients that are completely harmless to children.

  1. Choline salicylate. Blocks inflammation and has antipyretic properties.
  2. Cetalkonium chloride. Has an antimicrobial effect on the entire oral cavity.
  3. Anise oil. Softens, destroys bacteria and normalizes microflora.

Cholisal also contains excipients: glycerol, hyaetellose, ethanol and purified water. The soft consistency of the drug allows it to be easily absorbed into the gums, penetrating the tissue and providing an analgesic effect. The gel adheres well to the mucous membrane and is not swallowed along with saliva, but has a slightly pungent smell of anise.

Use of the drug Cholisal

Cholisal is used topically 2-3 times a day (for pain relief) or after meals and before bedtime

A column of gel 1 cm long for adults and 0.5 cm for children is carefully rubbed into the affected area of the mucous membrane for several minutes. When treating periodontal diseases, the gel should be placed in the gum pockets 1–2 times a day, and also applied in the form of compresses or gently rubbed into the gums 1–2 times a day. The duration of treatment is determined depending on the clinical situation

For 30 minutes after using the gel, do not rinse your mouth with water or eat food.

How and when to use Cholisal gel for children

Cholisal gel is used for children when they are teething, as well as for inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa. For application, less than 0.5 cm of the drug is enough; it is carefully rubbed into the area of redness and swelling of the gums. This helps reduce pain and protect against infection, as the child chews hard objects and sucks fingers during this period.

At what age can you

The instructions for the drug indicate that the gel can be used for infants, but up to a year it is used with caution. This means that the reaction must be carefully monitored after application, as saliva production increases in response to anise oil and other active ingredients. This can lead to coughing, drooling, and irritation of the delicate skin of the face and body.

When teething, it is recommended to use up to 0.5 cm of a column at a time. Before application, you need to dry the mucous membrane with a gauze swab and carefully rub in a little of the drug. For the first time it should be the size of a match head. If well tolerated, the procedure is carried out up to 3 times a day (before or after meals, before bedtime). In all doubtful cases, it is important to consult a doctor before starting medication treatment.

Can there be an overdose?

An overdose in a child is possible if the rules for applying the drug are not followed. In small quantities it quickly relieves pain, but with increasing doses it has the opposite irritating effect. Therefore, it is important to limit the use to 2-3 rubbing procedures per day and a single dose of 0.2-0.5 cm of gel column. There were no cases of severe reactions to increased dosages.

If a child accidentally swallows the drug, it is necessary to rinse the mouth as soon as possible and try to rinse the stomach. For young children, you should call a doctor immediately.

Indications for use

The dental product has a wide range of uses, but most often this drug is prescribed for pathologies associated with infection of the oral mucosa, as well as for severe pain syndromes and serious inflammatory processes. According to the instructions for use and reviews, Cholisal gel helps with:

  • periodontitis;
  • cheilitis;
  • minor surgical interventions;
  • gingivitis;
  • stomatitis of various pathogenesis, including candidiasis;
  • injuries to the oral cavity of all possible etiologies;
  • deformation of the mucous membrane due to the use of prostheses;
  • teething;
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome;
  • Lichen ruber covering the oral cavity.

In any of the described cases, you must first consult with a specialist and go through all the relevant stages of the examination.

It should be borne in mind that when using the Cholisal gel in parallel with other medications, its antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties are enhanced. It is noteworthy that no cases of drug overdose have been recorded.

Use for other diseases and conditions

If you wear dentures or use braces, Cholisal gel can be effectively used as a means of eliminating traumatic inflammation. It reduces pain and swelling, significantly alleviates the general condition, eliminating pain in the affected areas of the mucous membrane.

Similar situations arise after surgical interventions in the oral cavity. Apply a small amount of gel to the area of mucous membrane that bothers you. After this, you need to not eat or drink for about an hour so that the components have time to have their effect.

Features of using Cholisal gel

Another indication for use is a disease such as cheilitis - inflammation of the lips, accompanied by redness, peeling, and swelling. The gel is used in complex therapy as a symptomatic remedy. Treatment of cheilitis is carried out with highly specialized means, the composition of which depends on the form and cause (allergies, fungus, viruses, lack of B vitamins).

Among the indications, one can often find mucosal lesions in lichen planus and Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome

Possible problems when using the drug

Dentists say that the product does not always have a positive effect. Some people may have an allergic reaction to Cholisal gel. In this case, analogues are selected with an alternative composition, and treatment continues.

Dentists also note that the anise oil included in the drug can cause excessive salivation. If for an adult this does not present any discomfort, then with small children everything is different. So, babies in the first year of life do not yet swallow all the saliva that comes out. In this case, liquid flows out of the mouth and irritates the skin. Dentists also say that children can choke on saliva. Most often, this problem occurs in babies in the first six months of life.

That is why the drug is prescribed for children with extreme caution and only in some cases.

If you use the drug incorrectly, complications may occur. The most common violation is neglect of sterility. So, applying medicine with dirty hands can cause an infection. In this case, dentists say that the patient not only does not experience relief, but also develops an infection. In this case, the person additionally needs antimicrobial therapy.

Contraindications

The gel has no contraindications as such.

It should not be used in the treatment of children whose individual intolerance to one of the active ingredients of the drug or auxiliary components has been identified.

During pregnancy and lactation, Cholisal should be used with extreme caution; it is necessary to begin use with minimal doses, as is the case with infants.

  • Kamistad.
  • Dental.
  • Dentamet.
  • Deoxynate.
  • Periodonticide.
  • Metrogil Denta.
  • Anti-Angin.
  • Faringosept and others.

Comparison with other drugs

As we can see, the choice of drugs for the treatment of the oral mucosa is considerable, but all these drugs have mainly a superficial and narrow therapeutic effect. For example, today there is a large selection of dental drugs that have only an antibacterial effect. Such products most often include antibiotics and antiseptic components (chlorhexidine, metronidazole). Such drugs include Asepta-balsam, Metrogyl Denta, Faringosept and others.

There are also dental products on the market that have only an anti-inflammatory effect (for example, “Parodontocide”) or an analgesic effect (for example, “Kamistad”, “Dentol”).

Analogs

When choosing what to prescribe to a patient - Cholisal or Metrogyl Denta, the dentist will prefer the latter remedy. It is characterized by pronounced anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activity. Holisal Dental is used only for preventive purposes. The gel analogues Stomatodin and Stomatofit have a similar effect.

Side effects of the drug

Cholisal ointment can cause side effects, especially as a result of an allergic reaction and neglect of the instructions for use.

When using Cholisal, the following side effects may occur:

  • allergic reactions and intolerance of the body to the drug (especially with hypersensitivity);
  • burning and pain in the gums and oral cavity (especially if the dose and instructions for use are neglected);
  • Cholisal ointment can disrupt the normal condition of teeth and provoke diseases (caries, gumboil, and so on).

The use of Cholisal for gum inflammation

In the treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis, the gel is used only in complex treatment. Together with it, dental plaque is removed, the mouth is rinsed with antiseptic solutions, and toothpaste with an anti-inflammatory effect should be used. In severe cases of inflammation, an antibiotic may be prescribed.

Using the product without getting rid of the cause that
caused the inflammation (tartar, microbial plaque) will not give a good effect.
Inflammation will decrease, but will go into a sluggish chronic stage. Because of this, the bone tissue around the teeth will begin to deteriorate faster, which will lead to their mobility. In case of inflammation of the gums, according to the instructions, the course of treatment for a child or adult is 10 days. The gel is applied twice: morning and evening. In the morning after breakfast, you need to brush your teeth well, rinse your mouth with an antiseptic solution for a minute, and then just use Cholisal gel.

This will help improve its effectiveness and the inflammation will go away faster. Before using the gel, the oral mucosa should be dried with a dry gauze swab so that it sticks to it better. After using the drug, you should not eat for 3 hours, and also not drink for half an hour. The treatment is carried out in the same way in the evening before bedtime.

For a child, you need to take 0.5 cm of gel, for an adult – 1 cm. For periodontal disease, you can put the product into the formed pockets.

Benefits of using gels

Unlike drugs that must be taken orally, gum gel during pregnancy is applied topically, although many of them are largely absorbed into the mucous membranes and enter the bloodstream, which can affect the development of the fetus. When using approved means, you can get the most positive results, including:

  • elimination of painful sensations in the gums;
  • providing anti-inflammatory effects;
  • antiseptic effect;
  • relief from itching;
  • rapid healing of injured tissues;
  • strengthening gum tissue;
  • elimination of bleeding.

Gels are prescribed much more often because they adhere better to the surface of the gums. The active ingredients of the drugs quickly penetrate into the source of inflammation and eliminate it. If the product is chosen correctly, it will not penetrate the bloodstream and affect the child’s body.

Solcoseryl

The drug Solcoseryl is made from the blood of dairy calves. It contains components that can eliminate the inflammatory process in the gums, as well as have the following effects:

  • improving oxygen transport to cells that are susceptible to hypoxia;
  • increased synthesis of intracellular ATP;
  • an increase in the amount of aerobic glycogen;
  • activation of regenerative and reparative processes in gum tissues;
  • stimulation of collagen synthesis from vascular walls;
  • improving fibroblast production.

The use of the drug ensures a good process for the supply of useful components to the cells, as well as oxygen. When applied, a special film is formed, which is an effective protection when weeping wounds appear in the mouth. With this remedy you can eliminate painful sensations for up to 5 hours. It quickly heals damaged mucous membranes. The gel is applied in small quantities to the affected gums, which need to be slightly moistened with water.

Gel Solcoseryl - combined action

The use of this drug during pregnancy is permitted, but with extreme caution. No special studies have been conducted, but as practice shows, it is quite safe and does not cause negative consequences.

If you use Solcoseryl incorrectly and exceed the dosage, an allergy may develop.

Holisal

When a pregnant woman has gum inflammation, Cholisan is often prescribed. This remedy is safe and can cope with various types of problems.

  • Providing analgesic effect for stomatitis.
  • Elimination of the inflammatory process in gingivitis and other dental diseases.
  • Analgesic effect during the growth of wisdom teeth.
  • Reduces pain and irritation when wearing prosthetic structures.
  • Accelerate the healing process of the oral mucosa.

The product can also be used during breastfeeding, but in small quantities. It has a local effect, but since it is applied to the mucous membranes of the mouth, a small amount enters the digestive tract. When it penetrates inside, the maximum concentration of the active component is achieved half an hour after application.

During breastfeeding, it is recommended to use the drug at those moments when the baby sleeps the longest. This will reduce the amount of active substance in the blood.

Cholisal is a combination drug that contains cetalkonium chloride and choline salicylate. The first substance allows you to suppress the activity of pathogenic microflora due to its bactericidal and antiseptic effect. The second component removes the inflammatory process and acts as a pain reliever.

Cholisal is an effective drug

Due to its gel-like consistency, the medicine adheres well to the mucous membranes and has a long-lasting effect. The effect occurs almost immediately after applying the gel. The pain goes away within 2 minutes. The period of activity of the active substance is within 2-8 hours, depending on the individual characteristics of the patient.

The product is available in the form of a transparent gel with anise and menthol flavor. Immediately after using it, you may feel a burning sensation and increased salivation, but the substance adheres well to the gums.

The drug is as safe as possible and has virtually no negative consequences. An allergy may develop, subject to individual intolerance.

Metrogil Denta

Another drug that is prescribed for gum inflammation during pregnancy is Metrogyl Denta. It can be used starting from the second trimester of pregnancy. It is prohibited in the first trimester.

The medicinal gel contains active ingredients such as metronidazole and chlorhexidine. The use of the product allows you to disinfect the oral cavity and suppress the activity of pathogenic microflora. Very often it becomes an alternative treatment option when the use of other means is prohibited.

The drug is used in the treatment of the following diseases:

  • gingivitis of various types;
  • inflammation caused by tooth extraction;
  • periodontitis and periodontitis;
  • stomatitis;
  • inflammation caused by wearing prosthetic structures.

The drug is applied topically. It is applied in a thin layer to the inflamed areas of the gums using a cotton swab. The procedure must be carried out 2 times a day. The course of treatment lasts about one week.

Metrogyl denta - gel for gums

For periodontitis, periodontal pockets can be treated with this product. The period of activity of the active substance is half an hour.

Contraindications for use may be individual intolerance to the components, the first 3 months of gestation and the lactation period.

Adverse reactions may include allergies. The drug is relatively safe and is often used to treat gum inflammation in women during pregnancy.

Apident Active

A relatively safe drug for the treatment of gum inflammation during pregnancy is Apident Active. It consists of various components.

  • Propolis acts as an antibiotic, has an analgesic and bactericidal effect, and also improves blood circulation in the gums, the process of regeneration and healing of gum tissue.
  • Bee venom – eliminates inflammation, disinfects and stimulates blood circulation in the gums.
  • Chitosan - ensures rapid healing of wounds, and also has antibacterial and antiviral effects.
  • Fir – eliminates bleeding gums, relieves inflammation and heals wounds.
  • Chamomile – has a tonic, calming and regenerating effect, restoring gum tissue cells.
  • Calendula - helps eliminate itching and bleeding, and also relieves pain and heals gums.
  • Sage – provides antibacterial and antiviral effects.
  • Millennial - tones gum tissue and eliminates pain.

This medication should be applied in small quantities to the affected areas 3 times a day. The duration of treatment is about 1.5 weeks. Also, ointments can often be used in the treatment of gum inflammation, among which the safest is heparin ointment.

Gel for gums Apident Active with bee products

The use of any gel or ointment during pregnancy requires special caution. The choice of remedy should be made together with a doctor. Gel for pregnant women should provide effective elimination of the inflammatory process in the gums and not harm the development of the fetus.

Can Cholisal be used for children?

Gel Cholisal, being a combination drug, allows you to relieve pain and inflammation.
It is used for a number of dental diseases, for microtraumas of the oral mucosa and for painful teething.

The instructions for use indicate that young children under 1 year of age can apply the gel, but it is not advisable.

In case of urgent need, it should be used with extreme caution, starting with minimal doses (less than 0.5 cm of gel).

For older children, the gel is indicated for use not only in the treatment of stomatitis, gingivitis and periodontitis, but also in case of injury to the mucous membrane by braces, as well as after surgical interventions.

Therefore, many parents purchase the drug even without consulting a dentist. In the medicine cabinet of almost every family with a small child, there will definitely be a tube of Cholisal, because most often it is used specifically in the treatment of children.

Cholisal during pregnancy

Pregnancy is not the most serene period in a woman’s life.
The discomfort of an “interesting” situation lies not only in nausea in the morning, but also in the weakening of the body’s protective functions, and, therefore, a tendency to colds and infectious diseases. Especially pregnant women begin to feel their teeth, and in general, all dental problems become aggravated at once: if there was a small caries before pregnancy, then during pregnancy it can develop so much that it will be necessary to undergo serious and thorough dental treatment. Often, pregnant women experience fungal infections of the oral cavity, bleeding of the gums increases or appears if there was none.

The diseases are painful and can negatively affect not only the well-being of the mother, but also the fetus, which is very sensitive to changes in the mother’s body, as well as to her emotional state.

Teething symptoms

You can understand that the baby has started teething by the characteristic signs that are invariably observed in a baby in this state. First of all, there will be severe redness and swelling at the site of the erupting tooth. The gums will be inflamed and extremely painful.

Additional symptoms of teething may include:

  1. Drooling in children. At the same time, copious secretion of saliva will occur both while the baby is awake and during his rest. This is the first signal about the imminent eruption of one or more teeth in the baby. It should also be noted that hypersalivation in children is usually observed between the ages of three and seven months. After this period, the incidence of excessive salivation in the child becomes much less frequent.
  2. Very often a baby in such a state becomes capricious. He can cry for several hours a day, even when he is warm, not hungry and is close to his mother. This condition is caused by discomfort and pain in the gums, which torments the baby for several days, until the moment when the tip of a baby tooth appears “on the horizon” of the gums.
  3. It is possible to increase body temperature, sometimes to critical levels.
  4. Children often refuse to eat and suffer from sleep disturbances. They find it difficult to sleep due to gum inflammation.
  5. Children in this state constantly pull various objects into their mouths and chew on them. These can be close-lying toys, your own fingers, and even your mother’s breasts.

    The gums itch, so the child puts everything in his mouth to scratch them and relieve the itching.

Important! You should not allow your baby to chew on dirty toys, as he could easily get an infection in his gums or accidentally swallow small parts of the toy. To alleviate the child’s condition a little, during this period it is recommended that he purchase special chewing devices.

Additional signs of teething may include:

  1. Formation of hematoma on the mucous membrane of the gums.
  2. The gums acquire a bluish tint.
  3. Abnormal stool (diarrhea).
  4. The appearance of a runny nose, which can easily be confused with a viral ARVI.

Instructions: how to take during pregnancy?

When the oral mucosa is subject to inflammation, eating becomes a real punishment. But the expectant mother needs to monitor the rationality and variety of her diet. Therefore, a drug that can anesthetize problem areas in the oral cavity is usually used 5 to 10 minutes before main meals.

The technique for using it is simple: twice a day, squeeze a small strip of gel (about 1 cm) onto your finger and apply it to the affected area with light massaging movements. A prerequisite is to wash your hands with hot water and soap first.

What is Cholisal ointment used for?

Cholisal ointment is needed to control the normal condition of the oral cavity, which is affected by inflammatory processes and bacteria.

Cholisal helps with stomatitis in this way:

  • stimulates the normal condition of the oral cavity, relieves pain, dryness and other unpleasant symptoms;
  • helps to recover from the disease and block further progress of stomatitis, which can develop into complicated forms and disrupt the structure of the teeth;
  • destroys all harmful bacteria and microbes that cause oral diseases and other inflammatory processes;
  • helps restore the structure of teeth if it is damaged as a result of the active progress of diseases.

Cholisal for stomatitis is unlikely to harm oral health if taken as prescribed by a doctor. First of all, the doctor who treats stomatitis must conduct a detailed examination and diagnosis, which will help determine whether Cholisal will be necessary and there are no contraindications or allergic reactions to it.

Overcame gingivitis during pregnancy? This gel plus a few more products will save you!

Good afternoon to everyone reading this post! I came across gingivitis gel here and remembered that I didn’t share with you a review about my savior!

During pregnancy, my gums began to bleed heavily. They write on the Internet that this is temporary and will go away on its own after childbirth, but nevertheless the problem existed and created a lot of inconvenience. Gradually, by 5-6 months, the situation worsened and the gums not only began to bleed more, but also terrible gaps began to form between the gum and the tooth. I panicked. It was decided to see a doctor without waiting for the birth.

She gave me some tips for caring for my gums, which I share with you:

  1. Use Cholisal gel: rub a small strip of gel into the gums, wait a little, then rinse your mouth. Or put it on cotton wool and apply it as a compress. The gums may tingle or burn at this moment - this is normal;
  2. Use special toothpaste;
  3. Choose a soft toothbrush designed specifically for teeth and gums;
  4. Use mouthwash and dental floss.

Pregnancy and oral problems

Changes in hormonal levels lead to changes in food preferences, which can lead to irritation of the oral mucosa. Toxicosis is often accompanied by nausea, which also affects the teeth and oral cavity. The most common problem for which pregnant women use Cholisal is gingivitis. Symptoms of gingivitis:

  • sore gums;
  • plaque on teeth;
  • bleeding and swelling in the mouth.

It is useful to read about the symptoms of meningitis in children.

Information to note: is it possible to take echinacea during pregnancy?

Another common disease during pregnancy is stomatitis. This disease can be provoked not only by reduced immunity. Sour, spicy and salty foods, which expectant mothers love so much, irritate and injure the mucous membrane, opening the way for pathogenic bacteria. For stomatitis:

  • a pregnant woman feels a burning sensation in her mouth;
  • small ulcers appear;
  • salivation increases;
  • An unpleasant odor and redness appear on the palate.

Judging by the reviews of pregnant women, Cholisal relieves pain quite quickly and has no side effects, but this does not mean that it can be freely used on the recommendation of people far from medicine. The situation can be partially improved by changing your diet and taking vitamins and minerals. But it is very difficult to completely get rid of the disease without medical advice.

Despite the availability of Cholisal (it is sold without a prescription) and the almost complete absence of contraindications, it is very dangerous for a pregnant woman to self-medicate. Even if your gums are sore and bleeding, you cannot stop caring for your teeth. A soft toothbrush, rinsing and changing your diet will help relieve the pain. In extreme cases, when it is not possible to postpone a visit to the dentist, the doctor may prescribe a dental gel for the expectant mother to relieve pain. During treatment for a pregnant woman, it is important to follow the recommended dose of the drug so as not to jeopardize the unborn child.

From what age?

Despite the fact that it is not recommended to use the drug before 1 year of age, many parents still purchase Cholisal for infants.
As practice shows, this is one of the most effective means to relieve swelling of the gums and eliminate pain during teething.

From the age of 1 year, Cholisal is allowed to be used without fear of allergies or side effects.

In what cases is gel needed?

Inflammation of the gums can be caused by various reasons. Very often, it develops as a result of dental diseases, including periodontitis and gingivitis. The need to use gels arises with the following symptoms:

  • pain in the gum tissue while eating, tooth mobility;
  • pain in the gums and bleeding;
  • mucosal injuries and swelling;
  • development of the inflammatory process as a result of tooth extraction;
  • sensation of itching and burning in the gums;
  • unpleasant odor from the mouth;
  • high sensitivity of teeth and gums;
  • gingivitis, stomatitis and periodontal disease;
  • the appearance of ulcers on the mucous membranes of the mouth;
  • pain when pressing on the gums and its redness.

Visiting the dentist during pregnancy

All these symptoms can be observed in a pregnant woman. To eliminate them, it is necessary to use appropriate drugs.

The use of gels gives very good results. They are easy to use and quickly produce the desired effect. They differ from ointments in their rapid penetration into the affected gum tissue, as well as ensuring long-lasting action. The list of permitted gels during pregnancy is very minimal.

Mode of application

Depending on the disease for which Cholisal gel is prescribed, the methods of its use change. It is also necessary to take into account the age of the child.

When treating stomatitis, the drug is applied in the form of applications to the affected areas of the mucous membrane.

It is important to understand that the gel cannot cure the disease; it only has an analgesic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect.

Therefore, it is prescribed as one of the components of complex therapy. After application, you should not drink liquid for half an hour and eat food for 2 hours.

If a child has a microtrauma to the gums as a result of wearing braces, then Cholisal is rubbed into the affected area with smooth movements. The procedure must be performed after eating. Before using the gel, it is recommended to sanitize the oral cavity with a 1% soda solution and thoroughly dry the inflamed gum with a gauze swab. You should refrain from food for the next 1.5 hours, and from drinks for 30 minutes from the moment of applying the drug.

For periodontal diseases, the gel must be placed in the gum pockets (do not rub in). When treating young children, you can use special spatulas (sold in pharmacies) or soft silicone finger toothbrushes. If the disease is detected in an older child, you can apply the gel with a clean finger. The procedure should be performed as carefully as possible so as not to cause pain to the child and not to injure the inflamed mucous membrane of the oral cavity.

To relieve pain during teething, the gel is applied directly to the swollen areas and rubbed in with smooth circular movements. Can be used before feeding if the child refuses to eat due to pain. It is worth remembering that in this case the effect of the gel will last a short time, since almost all of the drug will be washed away by saliva and food that is offered to the baby.

The amount of gel used for one application, as well as the number of procedures per day, is determined by the attending physician - depending on the disease and its severity.

  • It is not advisable for infants, but if necessary, 2.5 mm of gel per use is sufficient. The number of procedures is no more than two per day.
  • For young children (from 1 to 3 years old), no more than 5 mm of the drug is recommended per dose. Number of procedures – 2-3 per day.
  • For middle-aged children (from 3 to 7 years old) and older children (from 7 to 13 years old), 5 mm of gel is enough for one dose, but the number of procedures can vary from 3 to 4 per day.

Cholisal by trimester

1st trimester

Treatment of dental and other diseases in the early stages of pregnancy requires a competent and thoughtful approach. The embryo is not yet protected by the placenta and is very vulnerable. Therefore, use alternative treatments whenever possible.

2nd trimester

The most favorable period for treatment. The use of certain drugs is allowed, including Cholisal.

3rd trimester

Dental interventions in the prenatal period should be carried out with great care so that the woman does not experience stress, shock and does not begin to give birth prematurely right in the dental chair. To avoid such situations, it is more advisable to use Cholisal and postpone going to the dentist until later - after childbirth.

Folk remedies and methods of prevention

Traditional medicine has been tested for years, its recipes were used by our great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers, so a woman carrying a child under her heart and caring for him, it is better to resort to folk experience in treating diseases of the oral cavity than to once again endanger her unborn child by resorting to the help of medicines.

  • Rinsing with a hypertonic salt solution (1 tablespoon of salt in half a glass of water) can help relieve inflammation and have an antiseptic effect.
  • 1 tbsp. pine needles per 1 glass of hot water - these are all the components of a healing infusion that can relieve inflammation and eliminate bad breath. The infusion is taken orally, ¼ glass three times a day after meals.
  • Where would traditional medicine be without herbs? Sage, chamomile, thyme, St. John's wort, string - natural antibiotics and antiseptics. Rinsing the mouth with herbal decoctions (1 tablespoon of dry and crushed plant parts per glass of water) will help not only eliminate problems in the mouth, but also increase the immunity of the pregnant woman.

A number of preventive measures will help prevent the development of oral diseases:

  • Regular oral hygiene 2 times a day. Don't forget about mouthwash and dental floss.
  • Eating solid vegetables and fruits, such as apples and carrots. These products will not only strengthen teeth, but also replenish the reserves of vitamins and minerals in the body of a pregnant woman. But you should forget about sweets: sugar has always been a catalyst for the proliferation of pathogenic microflora.
  • An expectant mother should avoid any stressful situations: peace and positive emotions are the key to a woman’s well-being and the good health of her unborn child.

Despite the fact that Cholisal is available for sale without a prescription and at a price, you should not purchase it without consulting a doctor. Even if he helped all your friends and acquaintances in an “interesting” situation, there is no guarantee that he will help you too.

Each organism is individual, and what is good for many may become dangerous for you. Therefore, only after a qualified specialist examines you, weighs the pros and cons, and recommends this particular drug, can you go to the pharmacy with a clear conscience. Be healthy!

pharmachologic effect

Combined preparation for local use in dentistry with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

When applied topically, choline salicylate is quickly absorbed by the oral mucosa, providing local analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. It inhibits the activity of COX, the functions of macrophages and neutrophils, the production of interleukin-1 and inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins. It also has antimicrobial and antifungal effects in acidic and alkaline environments.

Cetalkonium chloride is an antiseptic that acts on bacteria, fungi and viruses.

The gel ethanol-containing adhesive base ensures rapid development of the effect and retains the active substances on the mucous membrane for a long time.

The analgesic effect occurs within 2-3 minutes, while its duration is 2-8 hours.

Cholisal® does not contain sugar, does not have a local irritating effect and is well tolerated by patients.

What does Kholisal contain?

One gram of Cholisal dental gel contains:

  • 87.1 mg anhydrous choline salicylate;
  • 0.1 mg cetalkonium chloride;
  • hydroxyethylcellulose;
  • glycerol;
  • methyl hydroxybenzoate (preservative for medicinal products);
  • propyloxybenzoate (propyl ester of salicylic acid, nipazole, preservative);
  • anise oil (antiseptic);
  • ethanol;
  • water.

There are 1000 mg in one gram, i.e., minus the active components, additional substances account for 912.8 mg of the total volume. Unfortunately, manufacturers do not indicate the dosage of each of them.

Important! Cholisal contains substances that are dangerous for pregnant women even in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. And at the beginning of pregnancy, the use of any drug must be agreed with a doctor.

Auxiliary components of Cholisal during pregnancy

Some of the excipients improve the absorption of Cholisal and act as an antimicrobial and antifungal agent. The relatively dense gel base does not allow saliva to quickly wash away the medicine; as a result, the drug remains in the right place for quite a long time so that Cholisal has time to act.

It is recommended to find out whether pregnant women can take Valerian.

Note: how childhood enuresis is treated.

Hydroxyethylcellulose is a water-soluble polymer, gelling agent, additive E 1525. This substance is not included in the list of food additives approved for use in the food industry. This means that it either has not been tested or is currently being studied, but there is no final result yet. Doctors say that supplements of this kind can pose a danger in case of overdose.

The situation is approximately the same with the preservative propyloxybenzoate (E 216). It is prohibited for use in the food industry. This substance is mainly used in cosmetics, as it has an antifungal effect.

Anise oil is used to treat colds, coughs, and soothe the throat, but during pregnancy it is not recommended to use it even externally. There is information that this oil can cause miscarriage in the 1st trimester of pregnancy or contractions in the later stages, which makes Cholisal dangerous for expectant mothers. And it’s unlikely that anyone needs to be reminded that alcohol in any form is harmful to the fetus.

Important! When using Cholisal, pregnant women must strictly adhere to the instructions and medical recommendations. Too high a dose can be dangerous.

Can pregnant women take it?

The auxiliary components of Cholisal (hydroxyethylcellulose and propyloxybenzoate) are prohibited in the food industry, which means that they can harm the unborn baby. There is no point in talking about the negative impact of alcohol, another component, on the development of the fetus.

But anise oil, thanks to which the gel has such a specific taste and smell, can provoke abortion in the early stages. Therefore, before buying the gel at the pharmacy, you should consult your doctor about the advisability of its use.

In 1st trimester

In the first months of pregnancy, complex biochemical processes occur in a woman’s body, interference with which is fraught with serious consequences. It would seem that what could be more harmless than the gel used to treat the oral cavity? Where is the mouth and where is the embryo? It turns out that along with saliva, some components can enter the bloodstream and, accordingly, to the placenta and fetus.

The embryo is practically unprotected in the first 12 weeks, but is experiencing the most important stage of its development - the formation of internal organs and vital systems. Therefore, if problems arise in the oral cavity, it is best for a pregnant woman to resort to alternative treatment methods.

In the 2nd trimester

The most favorable period for treating oral diseases with Cholisal is the second trimester. The fetus is reliably protected by the placenta, so the risk of undesirable consequences is minimized.

In the 3rd trimester

In case of emergency, the drug can be used instead of visiting the dentist, since any stress experienced by a pregnant woman can trigger premature birth. The right decision would be to postpone a visit to the dentist until the postpartum period.

Side effects

Children's bodies are most susceptible to side effects from the use of medications.

Kholisal doesn't have many of them, but it's worth knowing about them.

  • An allergic reaction with systematic uncontrolled use, especially in the presence of increased sensitivity of the child’s body to one of the constituent substances.
  • Burning of the mucous membranes at the sites of application, which goes away on its own.
  • Increased salivation.

It is precisely because of increased salivation that the drug is not recommended for use in children under one year of age. Babies are not able to cope with so much saliva produced on their own, so they often cough. For infants who are always in a supine position, this is very dangerous.

In addition, there may be an abundant accumulation of saliva in the cervical folds and around the mouth (under the pacifier attachment), which will lead to diaper rash and the appearance of rashes on the skin.

A slight burning sensation that appears almost immediately after applying the gel (especially to the injured mucous membrane of the oral cavity) is not an indication that the drug is not suitable. The discomfort goes away on its own within 10 minutes, so you shouldn’t stop using it because of this.

Contraindications to Cholisal

In addition to its positive effects on oral health, stomatitis gel has a lot of contraindications for which it is prohibited to use.

Cholisal has the following contraindications for use:

  • if strange sensations and pain in the oral cavity occur after using the gel for stomatitis;
  • if the body is intolerant to the substances of cholisal and to the drug itself (especially in children whose bodies are not able to properly produce antibodies);
  • if it only intensifies unpleasant symptoms and provokes an increase in intense pain.

Also, it is not recommended to use the drug for children under 3 years of age, because the teeth and gums are not fully formed, and this can only provoke inflammatory processes and the proliferation of microbes and bacteria. It is not advisable for women to use the drug during pregnancy, because as a result, antibodies can be actively produced, and this threatens the health of the fetus.

A mother who is breastfeeding is not recommended to use a product that can not only increase unpleasant pain, but also cause an allergic reaction.

We recommend that you read the article, which describes in detail the features of using Cholisal for children and pregnant women.

Reducing symptoms of stomatitis

Stomatitis is inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth. Cholisal is one of the drugs that are widely used for its treatment. The gel for stomatitis is recommended not only for adults, but also for children.

Symptoms of stomatitis:

  • the affected area turns red;
  • ulcers form at the site of redness;
  • burning, pain in the mouth (especially while eating);
  • the temperature rises to 390 C (in severe cases);
  • saliva production increases, and there is an unpleasant odor from the mouth.

These unpleasant manifestations are also reduced with dental products after professional hygiene. For emergency help with all types of stomatitis (bacterial, candidal, chronic), you can use Cholisal:

Directions for use: 1 cm of Cholisal gel (0.5 cm in children under 12 years old) is squeezed onto a cotton swab or clean finger, applied to the affected area and rubbed in for 2-3 minutes. The procedure is carried out 3 times. in a day.

Is it necessary to follow the instructions?

For each person, the method of using ointment for stomatitis in the mouth will be individual, but to be sure, you need to consult a dentist; independently determining the dose and time of use is strictly prohibited.

It is imperative to follow the instructions, as failure to comply may result in:

  • the appearance of an allergic reaction and intolerance of the body to the composition of the drug;
  • violation of the normal state of the oral cavity and the structure of the teeth (especially if the processes of suppuration have begun);
  • aggravate pain, unpleasant symptoms and inflammation, which can actively progress;
  • contribute to the further development of the disease, which can provoke others.

For adults and children, the instructions will be different, and this is another reason to consult a dentist, who will help determine exactly what dose will be necessary in this case. Ointment for stomatitis in adults will have its own special sequence of application and the dose for an adult is definitely higher than for children, it is worth paying attention to this.
