Medicine for joints Teraflex: indications, medicinal properties, effectiveness

Cost and storage conditions

Patients can purchase the drug at the pharmacy without a special prescription, but self-medication is still not recommended.
If we talk about a Russian-made product with the commercial name Teraflex Hondrocream Forte (cream 30 g), the price in pharmacies averages 500 rubles per pack. Its structural analogues may differ in cost, in particular, Chondroxide Forte ointment will cost up to 600 rubles. There is no need to create special conditions for storing the cream. However, the tube should be kept closed at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees. The room should not be damp and be away from sources of sunlight. The drug can be stored for 2 years from the date of manufacture.

Mode of application

Specialists use Theraflex Chondrocream Forte in the complex treatment of osteoarthritis and osteochondrosis. Also, indications for use of the drug extend to other degenerative-dystrophic pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, accompanied by joint pain.

The medicine is applied to the problem area of the body with a thin strip 1–5 cm long (depending on the size of the affected area), after which it is gently rubbed into the skin until completely absorbed. After each use of the drug, the patient must wash their hands thoroughly. The product should not be applied to damaged skin and mucous membranes. If the medicinal composition gets into your eyes, it is recommended to rinse them with plenty of water at room temperature.

Instructions for use of Teraflex, method of use

The instructions for use of Theraflex indicate that it should be taken three times a day, 1 capsule, regardless of meals and with a small amount of water. The minimum duration of treatment with chondroprotectors is 2 months.

Such treatment must be completed every 3-6 months, depending on the dynamics of recovery. If there is no result or the condition worsens, you should consult a doctor to adjust the treatment.

When taking the drug, it is important not to confuse it with the similar drug Teraflex Advance. Unlike Teraflex, this drug, in addition to chondroprotectors, contains the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen

It is recommended to take it in case of severe pain - 2 capsules three times a day for 20 days (no more!).

Ibuprofen (as part of Teraflex Advance), in addition to the analgesic effect, increases the list of side effects and contraindications of the drug, so you need to pay attention to this.

Side effects of Theraflex, contraindications

The big advantage of Teraflex is the almost complete absence of side effects. Very rarely, the following adverse events may occur:

  • stomach ache;
  • nausea;
  • diarrhea;
  • headache;
  • drowsiness.

The drug is not prescribed if there are allergic reactions to the components of the drug

Take Theraflex with caution if you have hypersensitivity to seafood. Due to the osmotic effect of chondroitin sulfate, there is a high likelihood of developing edema in patients with chronic heart and kidney diseases

The use of the drug for diabetes mellitus should be under close monitoring of blood glucose, especially in the first weeks of chondroprotector therapy.

No cases of overdose have been recorded.

Side effects of Theraflex, contraindications

When taking the medication orally, patients may experience: flatulence (increased gas formation), heartburn, epigastric pain, digestive disorders (diarrhea, constipation), insomnia, dizziness, drowsiness, migraine pain, as well as pain in the legs, rapid heartbeat, swelling of the lower legs. limbs, allergies.

Of the side effects of Teraflex M cream, only allergic reactions are known, which manifest themselves in the form of various types of itchy rash. Allergy to Teraflex M is rare.

It should be especially noted that all of the above phenomena disappear immediately after stopping taking Theraflex capsules or stopping applying the cream.

Overdose

Cases of overdose have not been registered and are not described in the medical literature. In theory, a hemorrhagic rash and vomiting are likely to occur. However, if a person overdoses Teraflex in capsule form, then the following may occur: bronchospasm, shortness of breath, stomach bleeding, heartburn, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, anemia, abnormalities in the blood count and other serious diseases.

If you accidentally take a large number of capsules, rinse your stomach, take enterosorbents and carry out symptomatic therapy.

Contraindications

  • chronic renal and liver failure (severe stage);
  • bearing a child;
  • breastfeeding period;
  • age up to 15 years;
  • phenylketonuria (a genetically determined disease manifested in children by mental retardation);
  • hypersensitivity to the main and auxiliary components of the drug.

The drug should be prescribed with caution for diabetes mellitus, bleeding tendency, and bronchial asthma.

Action of chondroprotectors

Such drugs appeared when the value of two substances was studied in medicine: chondroitin and glucosamine. It turned out that these are structural elements of cartilage tissue. They are responsible for its integrity, strength and proper performance of functions. Most articular pathologies begin with a decrease in the amount of these substances in cartilage. As a result, they become thinner, crack and no longer protect the articular surfaces from destruction. Arthrosis and osteochondrosis develop, and joint mobility is impaired.

It is chondroprotectors that can stop the destruction of cartilage tissue and prevent the progression of these pathologies. After all, they are created on the basis of natural glucosamine and chondroitin. These substances are gradually incorporated into the cartilage tissue, improving its functioning. But the peculiarity of all chondroprotectors is that they act very slowly and are effective only in the initial stages of pathologies.

There are many similar products on sale now. They are available in the form of tablets, capsules, injection solution, and cream. The most effective are third-generation drugs containing both glucosamine and chondroitin. These are products such as “Kondronova”, “Diaflex”, “Lifebox”, “Chondro”, “Teraflex” or “Arthra”. It is difficult to say which is better, since the perception of any medicine depends on the individual characteristics of the body and the stage of the pathology. Therefore, self-medication with chondroprotectors is unacceptable; these drugs should be prescribed by a doctor.

pharmachologic effect

Theraflex contains two main active components - glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, which promote the regeneration (restoration) of cartilage of articular surfaces in degenerative lesions.

Effect of glucosamine

Glucosamine takes part in the formation of glycosaminoglycans, including hyaluronic acid, which form the basis of cartilage tissue. The substance functions as antioxidants, which protect cartilage tissue from destruction by oxygen radicals that occur during inflammation.

Glucosamine protects the cartilage of articular surfaces from the harmful effects of metabolism during the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticoids. The component also has moderate anti-inflammatory properties.

Chondroitin activity

Chondroitin sulfate belongs to the group of mucopolysaccharides. The substance helps reduce the activity of enzymes that have a destructive effect on cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate stimulates the formation of collagen, proteoglycans and hyaluronan. It helps restore the structure of cartilage tissue, as well as maintaining the necessary viscosity of the joint fluid.

Chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine in combination potentiate each other's action. The use of Teraflex slows down the degeneration of articular cartilage and also helps improve metabolism in cartilage tissue. As a result, joint pain and stiffness during movements are reduced. The drug allows you to reduce the dosage of NSAIDs and painkillers. This drug is absorbed from the digestive tract.

Pharmacokinetics

Its highest concentration in blood serum is observed after 4 hours, and in joint fluid – after 4–5 hours. About a third of the drug concentration enters the cartilage tissue and joint fluid. At the same time, the low bioavailability of Theraflex is due to the rather large size of the molecules of chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine.

The drug is metabolized in the liver with the formation of safe metabolic products and is eliminated from the body through the kidneys within 24 hours.

Teraflex or Artra, which is better?

Reviews from doctors, prices and features of use for these drugs are slightly different. Therefore, it is difficult to independently determine which drug to take. When prescribing treatment, the doctor is guided by the results of the examination, the individual characteristics of the patient, and the severity of the disease. The composition of the drugs "Arthra" and "Teraflex" is almost the same, but it is worth taking into account intolerance to the auxiliary components.

Often, when choosing one of similar drugs, the decisive argument is their price. The cost of treatment with Arthra is less, since 120 tablets cost about 2,000 rubles. For the same number of Teraflex capsules, the patient will pay 2,500-2,600 rubles. And since “Arthra” has a cumulative effect and has a high concentration of chondroitin, it can be taken for a shorter amount of time. But Teraflex has a more convenient release form; there is a cream for external use, as well as a version of the drug with ibuprofen. Therefore, the choice of medicine is strictly individual.

How Theraflex works

Thanks to many recent medical studies, it has been established that the basis for joint degradation is a change in the structure and/or function of glycosaminoglycans and chondroitin sulfate. These compounds ensure the formation of a healthy joint matrix. In addition, they reduce the activity of enzymes that destroy collagen and elastic fibers, and also eliminate the effect of substances that support inflammation - proinflammatory cytokines.

Scientists have found that the combined use of both substances enhances their positive effects. This served as a prerequisite for the creation of drugs based on glycosaminoglycan and chondroitin sulfate to obtain a greater overall effect compared to monotherapy with these drugs.

Due to the influence of two components at once, Teraflex has several important effects, which include:

  • anabolic - stimulates the formation of intercellular substance, increases the ability to divide chondrocytes;
  • anti-catabolic - suppresses the activity of proteases - enzymes that destroy proteins in integumentary tissues;
  • anti-inflammatory - due to suppression of the activity of the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1.

How to choose the right analogue

Nowadays you can find many analogues on the medicine market that cost much less than Teraflex

When choosing an analogue of a medicine, you should be careful. Because not all medications are effective and safe

Before buying an analogue, you need to consult your doctor. But if the possibility of consultation is limited, then you should use the tips below.

  1. It is necessary to select a chondroprotector that contains a small amount of additional elements, because otherwise the patient may experience an allergic reaction.
  2. It is better to buy a cheap analogue of Teraflex for joints, because it contains the main element in the same quantity as in the main medicine.
  3. It is better to purchase drugs that are produced by manufacturers with a positive reputation.

In order for the savings to be effective, before purchasing a medicine you need to pay attention to the dosage and the number of tablets in the package. There is no need to buy medicines that are too cheap, because their low cost indicates that the product is of low quality

You cannot purchase products labeled “dietary supplement,” even if the composition includes chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine. Dietary supplements do not undergo clinical trials and do not have an evidence base. Therefore, the effectiveness of such drugs is questionable.

Which analogues should you choose?

An analogue is always cheaper than a basic component. But what medications should you choose? Good alternatives to Theraflex include Indian drugs. Particularly popular among doctors and patients is a drug for joints called Condronova capsules. This medicine was produced in India; it differs from other analogues in its cheap price and effectiveness. Doctors prescribe this drug for the treatment of osteochondrosis and osteoarthritis.

  1. The medication contains chondroitin and glucosamine sulfate, which help the patient restore cartilage tissue.
  2. The drug helps restore tissue after inflammation. Kondronov's drug is a double of Teraflex.

Movax is also considered a well-known analogue of the Indian-made Teraflex medication; it is available in pills with different dosages.

Bottom line

Teraflex is a medicine of American origin. It has a high price, so not all segments of the population can afford it. Many patients are looking for Teraflex analogues so that they help well with diseases of cartilaginous joints and have the same composition as the basic medication. Many Teraflex analogues come to us from India.

They have a low price and good effectiveness, so medicines from India are widely used in medical practice. To achieve the necessary therapeutic effect from the use of analogues, they need to be used for a longer period of time in large doses.

Teraflex Russian substitutes

Since Teraflex appeared on the pharmacological market, Russian analogues have been created, which have a more affordable price compared to the American drug.

The most common substitutes for this domestically produced chondroprotector:

  1. "Dimexide" (115-130 rubles). It is a relative substitute for Teraflex. The active ingredient is dimethyl sulfoxide. Release form: liquid solution and gel 25 and 50%. Prescribed for muscle and joint pain. Contraindicated during pregnancy, lactation and under 6 years of age.
  2. "Chondrolon" (770-820 rubles). The active ingredient is chondroitin. The drug is available in the form of ampoules containing dry extraction of the substance. The medicine is sold complete with a solvent. Used as part of complex therapy for arthrosis, osteoarthritis, and arthritis.
  3. “Chondroxide” (495-515 rubles). Available in the form of ointment and gel for external use. The active components are chondroitin and dimethyl sulfoxide. It is used for osteochondrosis and osteoarthritis to slow down pathological changes in the affected joint.
  4. "Chondroitin" (470-485 rubles). The drug contains glucosamine and chondroitin. Prescribed for the treatment of diseases that cause degenerative changes in cartilage tissue. The medicine allows you to reduce the dosage of analgesics, as it has a moderate analgesic effect. The drug should not be used during pregnancy, lactation and under the age of 15 years.

Properties

Theraflex ointment can reduce degenerative-dystrophic phenomena that occur in the joints and spine as a result of excessive physical exertion, age-related changes, and hereditary predisposition to diseases.

The complex of components included in the ointment significantly reduces pain characteristic of arthrosis and osteochondrosis and prevents the development of the inflammatory process. It enhances the strength and elasticity of cartilage and intervertebral discs, which is necessary for patients suffering from osteoporosis. With the systematic use of Teraflex ointment, the strength of bones increases and their fragility decreases. Metabolic processes in cartilage tissues are improved, and the production of synovial fluid is stimulated.

Which is better Artra or Teraflex

The drugs are identical in composition and action, therefore the effect of taking them will be the same, but much depends on the characteristics of the course of the disease. Which medication is better to choose is a matter of individual preferences of the patient and his financial capabilities.

Artra can be taken in the treatment of arthrosis.

For joints

In this case, many people give preference to Teraflex, because It is possible to combine 2 methods of taking the medicine – internal and external. Regular application of the drug to the affected joint helps eliminate pain, so Teraflex cream is often used by athletes to protect joints from injury and restore them faster after intense exercise.

For arthrosis

Both Artra and Theraflex can be used in the treatment of arthrosis with equal effectiveness. The second chondroprotector may be preferable for most patients, because gelatin capsules contain ibuprofen, which helps eliminate pain and reduce inflammation.

Dosages and regimen of use

The drug is taken orally with a small amount of boiled water. The first three weeks you need to take one capsule three times a day

. After one month of treatment, adult patients take one capsule twice a day. The effectiveness of the medicine does not depend on food intake. But experienced experts recommend taking the drug 15-20 minutes after breakfast, lunch and dinner. The duration of the course can be from three months to six months. You should get the most accurate information from your doctor. In the most advanced cases, repeated treatment is recommended. Long courses individually.

Instructions for use of Teraflex Advance:

The drug must be taken orally immediately after meals.
The tablets must be taken with boiled water. Adult patients take two capsules three times daily
. The duration of the course should not exceed more than three weeks. Further use of the drug must be agreed with a professional specialist.

Instructions for use Teraflex M ointment:

The drug was developed for external use. It is intended for joints, treatment of muscle pain, skin defects. The product is applied in the form of a strip 2-3 centimeters long.

. It is not recommended to apply the drug to the site of inflammation itself. The ointment is applied over the affected area, rubbing in with massaging movements until completely absorbed. Application should be done two or three times a day. The duration of treatment depends on the extent of the affected area. When applying the product, you can either stand or lie down.

Side effects from use

"Teraflex" remains one of the safest chondroprotectors. As a result, side effects from its use are extremely rare. In fact, they can be as follows:

  • Diarrhea.
  • Stomach ache.
  • Attacks of nausea, vomiting.
  • Allergy (in this case, treatment should be stopped).
  • Headache.
  • Drowsiness.
  • Heart rhythm disturbances are the rarest side effect.

The negative consequences of taking Tetraflex Advance are largely due to ibuprofen:

  • Stomach ache.
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Development of gastritis, peptic ulcer.
  • Exacerbation of Crohn's disease.
  • Gastric and intestinal bleeding.
  • Drowsiness.
  • Headache.
  • Increased fatigue.
  • Kidney failure.
  • Cramps.
  • Jades.
  • Anemia.
  • Skin rashes and other forms of allergies.
  • Jaundice.
  • Hypertension.
  • The appearance of edema.
  • Heart failure.
  • Visual impairment.
  • Inflammation of the optic nerve.

As for the cream, the side effects are minor - redness of the skin, peeling at the site of application.

And now it’s time to consider analogues and reviews of Teraflex.

Side effects, overdose and combination

If the active components are used in doses prescribed by a doctor, they do not have a toxic effect and will not cause negative reactions. The drug causes side effects very rarely. Among them:

  • Gastrointestinal organs - constipation, flatulence, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, dyspepsia, pain in the epigastric region;
  • immune system - allergic reactions in the form of skin lesions, erythema, dermatitis, urticaria, angioedema, itching, etc.;
  • nervous system - dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, fatigue, headaches;
  • other reactions - blurred vision, alopecia, etc.

If the patient experiences one or another reaction, you should immediately consult a doctor. The drug may need to be discontinued or its dosage revised. If the patient accidentally swallows the ointment, urgent gastric lavage and absorption of absorbent drugs are required. If you do not feel better, you should consult a doctor. The use of ointment does not affect the speed of reactions, so after the procedure you can not be afraid to start complex work or get behind the wheel.

As for drug compatibility, there is no information on this in the instructions. But still, before starting therapy, you should notify the attending physician about what other medications the patient is taking.

Effect on the body

Teraflex is aimed at stimulating the regenerative processes of cartilage tissue. The active substances of the drug are participants in the synthesized process in the tissues of the human body, thus preventing wear and tear of the connective tissue, maintaining its firmness and elasticity. For injuries associated with joints, the use of Teraflex can stimulate their regeneration.

Glucosamine is a substance that is aimed at enhancing the production of cartilage matrices (intercellular space). Due to the fact that there are very few cells in cartilage tissue, the restoration process occurs through the formation of matrices. Glucosamine also has a mild anti-inflammatory effect on damaged cartilage, thereby protecting it from metabolic deformation.

The presence of chondroitin sulfate is also necessary to maintain a viscous structure in the synovial fluid, thereby stimulating the process of repair of cartilage tissue and suppressing active enzymes that contribute to its breakdown. Quite often, this medicine is prescribed to relieve symptoms of a disease such as osteoarthritis. This helps reduce the patient's dependence on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Analogs

  1. Glucosamine-chondroitin complex. Improves the condition of joints and connective tissue, prevents the destruction of cartilage tissue and promotes their restoration, eliminates inflammatory processes, affects the formation of ligaments and bone tissue. The cost of this drug averages 250-300 rubles per package.
  2. Doppelhertz active glucosamine + chondroitin. It is a biologically active food supplement that is used in the treatment or prevention of degenerative-dystrophic type of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The constituent components, glucosamine and chondroitin, are participants in the biosynthesis of connective tissue, as well as stimulators of cartilage regeneration, helping to prevent bone tissue resorption. The average cost for this product will be about 300 rubles for 30 capsules.
  3. Artra. Promotes the restoration of cartilage and bone tissue, improves joint mobility, and in case of degenerative-dystrophic diseases, reduces the severity of pain. Taking this drug slows down degenerative processes and prevents the destruction of bone and cartilage tissue, and also normalizes the production of cartilage matrix and reduces the negative impact of glucocorticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on connective tissue. The price of the drug is about 2000-2500 rubles for 120 capsules.
  4. Glucosamine.
  5. Chondroitin.
  6. Chondroitin-Acos.
  7. Chondroitin-Verte.
  8. Artradol.

Comparison of Arthra and Theraflex

Both drugs belong to the same pharmacological group, which means they can be considered analogues. But the drugs also have some differences that need to be taken into account when the question arises about choosing one or another chondroprotector.

Similarities

Similar characteristics include the following:

  1. Chondroprotectors, due to the identical composition of the active components, have the same mechanism of action.
  2. Both Artra and Theraflex are not drugs that are used as painkillers for severe, acute pain syndrome, because their analgesic effect is auxiliary.
  3. In the treatment of degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system, these chondroprotectors are recommended to be taken in combination with other medications.
  4. The same side effects and contraindications.
  5. The benefit of their use is possible only in the early stages of the development of pathological processes occurring in cartilage and joint tissue. If the disease progresses, only surgery will help.
  6. Duration of therapeutic courses. The medications are taken for 2-3 months. If there is no positive result in the first 2-3 weeks from the start of using medications, they should be discontinued and replaced with analogues.

What is the difference?

Despite the fact that the drugs are analogues in composition and mechanism of action on the body and joints, they differ from each other:

Based on the amount of active ingredient. Artre contains 500 mg of chondroitin, the second chondroprotector contains 400 mg. But Teraflex has an “extended” version - Teraflex Advance, where the number of components is increased. In terms of pharmacological forms, capsules with a gelatin shell contain the substance ibuprofen, and this provides the drug Theraflex with more pronounced analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. This medicine is also available in a form such as a cream for topical use. Artra was released much later, while the second chondroprotector has been on the market for a long time. Teraflex can be taken by asthmatics and diabetics

These diseases are relative contraindications to the use of Artra and require careful administration and dosage adjustment.

What is more effective?

It is difficult to say which product is more effective - Arthra or Teraflex, because... they have the same composition and spectrum of action. The difference between the amounts of active ingredients is insignificant. In addition, the degree of effectiveness and efficiency of using a particular medication depends on the clinical case and characteristics of the body.

Which is cheaper?

The cost of Arthra is about 2000 rubles. per pack of 120 tablets. The price of Teraflex is slightly higher - for the same number of capsules in a package you need to pay about 2,500 rubles. The difference in price is noticeable during a long therapeutic course.

Characteristics of Teraflex

Chondroprotector, produced in capsules with a hard and gelatin shell and in the form of a gel. The gel contains peppermint and camphor. Thanks to the presence of these substances, a quick and long-lasting analgesic effect, warming, and joint mobility are restored.

The main components in Theraflex are chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine hydrochloride. Depending on the form of release, the drug may contain the substance ibuprofen (present in gelatin capsules). This component provides a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect and rapid pain relief. Auxiliary components – gelatin, stearic acid.

Indications for use:

  • osteochondrosis of the spine (including the cervical spine);
  • periarthritis of various types;
  • as a restorative and prophylactic agent after surgical interventions on cartilage and joint tissue.

Contraindications for use:

  • age limit – up to 15 years;
  • kidney diseases;
  • pathologies of the urinary system;
  • pregnancy;
  • breastfeeding period;
  • individual intolerance to some main or auxiliary components.

The ointment should not be applied to the affected area of the skin. Possible side effects:

Teraflex is indicated if there is osteochondrosis of the spine (including the cervical spine).

Directions for use: 1 tablet or 1 capsule 1 to 2 times a day. The drug is swallowed whole. The course of treatment is long (from 2 months or more). Using the ointment: apply a thin layer to the skin up to 2 times a day and rub in in a circular motion until completely absorbed. The duration of ointment therapy is 1 month, after which you need to take a short break.

Pharmacology of the drug

The standard drug Teraflex Forte is available in the form of capsules containing 500 mg of glucosamine hydrochloride and 400 mg of chondroitin sodium salt. The drug is taken 1 capsule 3 times a day for 3 weeks, then for 3-6 months - 1 capsule 2 times a day.

The drug, after entering the gastrointestinal tract, is absorbed into the blood, passes through the liver and is reabsorbed into the blood for transport to the tissues. The highest concentrations are observed in the liver, kidneys and joints. About 35% of the total volume of the drug enters the bones and muscles, creating a kind of depot. Bioavailability ranges from 25 to 40%.

The medicine is contraindicated in those with a tendency to allergic reactions, stage III-IV renal failure, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Teraflex should be taken with caution by people suffering from diabetes, bronchial asthma, and heart failure.

Side effects when taking the drug occur extremely rarely, the drug is well tolerated. However, in some cases, abdominal pain, stool upset, increased gas formation, headache, swelling in the limbs, and increased heart rate are possible.

As for the interaction of Theraflex with other drugs, it is worth noting that it enhances the effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which allows people to take smaller doses of NSAIDs. This leads to a reduction in the number of adverse drug reactions when taking anti-inflammatory drugs.

Interaction with other drugs

The use of the drug Teraflex helps improve the body's absorption of tetracyclines (a group of antibiotics aimed at a wide range of antimicrobial activities). It also helps reduce the impact of synthetic penicillin on the human body. The drug is compatible with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticoids.

The interaction of active substances such as glucosamine and warfarin can lead to an increase in the normalized blood ratio, which inevitably leads to bleeding. Accordingly, a patient taking medications whose active ingredients are glucosamine and warfarin is required to undergo blood clotting tests. This will allow you to monitor its performance and, in cases of exacerbation, respond to it in a timely manner.

Indications and contraindications

Before starting therapy, you should carefully study the indications and contraindications for use. The drug is mainly prescribed as part of a complex treatment of degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Among them:

  • vertebral osteochondrosis;
  • osteoarthritis;
  • other joint diseases, due to which the patient suffers from pain.
  • vertebral osteochondrosis;
  • osteoarthritis;
  • other joint diseases, due to which the patient suffers from pain.

But you also need to take into account cases when the product cannot be used. There are also relative contraindications when therapy is possible under strict medical supervision. An alternative should be sought if the patient has a high sensitivity to the components and other anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drugs, as well as if the integrity of the skin at the application site is compromised and in children under 12 years of age.

Treatment is allowed with caution in such cases as:

  • gastric ulcer at the acute stage and other severe gastrointestinal pathologies;
  • renal and liver pathologies;
  • severe disorders of the blood system;
  • age over 65 years.

Contraindications

Chondroprotectors in their pure form, which are present in Teraflex ointment, have virtually no contraindications. It should not be used in the following cases:

  • allergic reaction to any of the main or auxiliary components of the drug;
  • the presence of dermatological problems, since camphor present in the ointment can increase irritation if the skin surface is damaged (scratches, abrasions, wounds or burns);
  • severe renal or liver failure;
  • children under 15 years of age;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • severe respiratory diseases.

Before using Theraflex ointment, you should carefully read the instructions for use of the drug, which are included in each package of the medicine.

special instructions

Active substances do not affect reaction speed and concentration. It is allowed to drive vehicles and operate machinery.

With the simultaneous use of tetracycline-based antibiotics, the absorption of the active components accelerates. The effectiveness of semisynthetic penicillins and chloramphenicols may be reduced.

Chondroitin enhances the effect of anticoagulants. If you are taking this group of medications, you should notify your doctor about this.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

"Teraflex" stimulates regenerative processes in cartilage tissue. This occurs as a result of improved nutritional exchange in damaged areas. In addition, the active substances of the medicine not only slow down, but also prevent the further development of the destructive process.

The main functions of chondroitin included in the drug:

  • activates the synthesis of proteoglycans, collagen, hyaluronate;
  • restores the normal consistency of synovial fluid;
  • inhibits the activity of enzymes that destroy cartilage tissue;
  • relieves pain during physical activity and at rest;
  • activates the production of hyaluronic acid at the cellular level, which in combination restores turgor and the structure of cartilage tissue;
  • prevents premature death of chondrocytes;
  • prevents further spread of inflammatory mediators.

Glucosamine in Theraflex helps accelerate the formation of the cartilage matrix, preventing its damage by metabolic as well as chemical processes. In addition, this active component has an anti-inflammatory effect.

The activity of Teraflex in inflammation of cartilage tissue is in many ways similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. But at the same time, its therapeutic effect is slightly slowed down. The advantage of a chondroprotector is that it has much fewer side effects. Therefore, “Teraflex” is prescribed as part of complex therapy for degenerative changes in cartilage.

At the first stage of treatment, analgesics, corticosteroids and NSAIDs are used to relieve exacerbations. But these remedies do not prevent further thinning of cartilage tissue and are not able to prevent further destruction

Therefore, it is important to use Teraflex for 2-4 months at the second stage of treatment, which will stop degenerative changes

To achieve the maximum therapeutic effect, it is recommended to use the chondroprotector in several courses throughout the year.

The bioavailability of chondoitin when taken orally is 15%, and when applied as an ointment to the skin - 40%. Its maximum concentration in the blood plasma is recorded after 3-4 hours, and in cartilage tissue after 5 hours. The component is excreted in the urine within 10-12 hours.

The bioavailability of glucosamine is 25%. The substance penetrates into plasma, cartilage tissue, liver and kidneys. Most of the substance is excreted in the urine and partly in the feces. The half-life is 68-70 hours.

The additional component ibuprofen, which is contained in the Teraflex Advance drug, is characterized by rapid absorption into the blood. Its maximum concentration is recorded 1 hour after swallowing the capsule. It is synthesized in the liver and excreted through the kidneys. A decrease in the concentration of ibuprofen in the blood occurs within several hours, and the component remains in the cartilage tissue for 24 hours.

Pharmacological properties of the drug Teraflex

Chondroitin sulfate is a high molecular weight mucopolysaccharide that takes part in the construction of cartilage tissue. Reduces the activity of enzymes that destroy articular cartilage and stimulates its regeneration. In the early stages of the inflammatory process, chondroitin sulfate reduces enzyme activity and thus slows down the degeneration of cartilage tissue. Reduces the severity of pain, improves joint function, reduces the need for NSAIDs in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee and hip joints. Glucosamine hydrochloride has chondroprotective properties, reduces glucosamine deficiency in the body, and takes part in the biosynthesis of proteoglycans and hyaluronic acid. Having an affinity for cartilage tissue, glucosamine hydrochloride initiates the process of sulfur fixation during the synthesis of chondroitinsulfuric acid. Glucosamine hydrochloride selectively acts on articular cartilage, is a specific substrate and stimulator of the synthesis of hyaluronic acid and proteoglycans, inhibits the formation of superoxide radicals and enzymes that cause damage to cartilage tissue (collagenase and phospholipase), prevents disruption of the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans induced by NSAIDs and the destructive effect of glucocorticoids on chondrocytes s .Pharmacokinetics. Absorption: after a single oral dose of the drug in an average therapeutic dose, the maximum concentration of chondroitin sulfate in the blood plasma is achieved after 3-4 hours, in the synovial fluid - after 4-5 hours. Bioavailability is 13%. Excretion is carried out mainly by the kidneys within 24 hours. 90% of glucosamine taken enterally is absorbed in the intestine. Over 25% of the dose taken passes from the blood plasma into the cartilage tissue and synovial membranes of the joints. In the liver, part of the drug is metabolized to form urea, carbon dioxide and water.

Indications for use

The instructions for “Teraflex” (we will look at analogues further) state that this is a broad-spectrum drug. It is shown in the following:

  • Osteoarthritis of various forms.
  • Osteochondrosis.
  • Arthritis, arthrosis. In particular, the knee joint.
  • Fractures of varying severity.
  • Spinal hernia of any location. Reviews indicate that the Teraflex Advance form is most effective here.
  • Joint diseases, accompanied by dystrophic and degenerative consequences, severe pain.
  • Gout. Judging by the reviews, the product eliminates inflammation and pain, increases joint mobility, and stimulates metabolic functions.

Analogues of “Teraflex” (we will look at the price as we go along) do not always have the same range of applications - you need to directly refer to their instructions.

Causes and mechanisms of joint diseases

Joint pathology is based on two main mechanisms: inflammation and degeneration. They can be primary and secondary, complementing and enhancing each other’s negative effect. Indicative in this regard is the example of the two most common pathologies - rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis occurs if several predisposing factors are present, for example, hereditary predisposition, female gender, age over 60 years. The triggering agent, that is, the direct cause of the disease, is not precisely known. They may be due to an infectious disease, taking medications, pregnancy and childbirth.

Under the influence of any triggering agent in the body, the cellular component of the immune system is activated, which begins to recognize the joint tissue as foreign. At the same time, other activated immune system cells begin to enter the joint, as well as chemicals that begin to destroy it. An inflammatory reaction develops, which in the later stages is replaced by a degeneration reaction, that is, the destruction of cartilage and bone tissue.

The situation is different with osteoarthritis. This pathology also has risk factors, which include genetic predisposition, high body weight, metabolic disorders, and low levels of physical activity. In this case, a situation arises when the breakdown of the chemical substances that form the basis of cartilage tissue begins to prevail over their formation. As a result, its death occurs, which is accompanied by local inflammation, which worsens the pathological process.

Alternatives for the active ingredient

Modern pharmacology is rich in the range of analogues (generics) of the popular “Teraflex”. Moreover, these are both Russian and imported drugs. The difference between them is in the manufacturer, the proportion of the active substance, and the release forms. And, of course, in price. Many analogues are cheaper than Teraflex, but are not inferior to the Swiss-American drug in effectiveness.

We warn you that substitutes may be registered as dietary supplements. This means that the effectiveness of their use, unlike the original, has not been clinically proven.

So, analogues for the active ingredient:

  • "Arthra" (USA). The drug is legally a full-fledged alternative to Teraflex.
  • "Chondroglucid" (RF).
  • "Chondroitin AKOS". Also an equivalent replacement for Teraflex, but made in Russia.
  • "Chondrosamine" (Republic of Belarus).
  • Movex-Comfort (Switzerland).
  • "Osteoartisy Active +" (Australia).
  • Flex-a-min Complex (United States).
  • Artron Triactive (United States).
  • "Hondro-Ritz" (Georgia).
  • "Protekon" (India).
  • "Chondroitin Complex" (Ukraine).
  • "Sanaflex" (Switzerland).

We continue to disassemble “Teraflex” - instructions, prices, analogues.

Teraflex

Teraflex Advance

The medication differs from ordinary Teraflex tablets in that in addition to glucosamine and chondroitin, it contains an element of ibuprofen in the amount of 110 mg. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that helps to quickly relieve inflammation and relieve pain in the patient.

Teraflex is prescribed during periods of exacerbation of diseases with severe pain. As for the Teraflex substitute, a drug that contains three active substances at a time does not exist at the moment.

Teraflex M ointment

Cream or ointment for external use contains 4 main components: chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine hydrochloride, camphor and peppermint. Substitutes for the drug include Sustavit balm, which contains glucosamine and chondroitin. The composition also includes other components: sea buckthorn oil, comfrey, cinquefoil and collagen. Theraflex for joints is considered the best medicine for relieving severe pain.

Theraflex capsules have a complex composition, which is based on two active elements: glucosamine hydrochloride, which contains 500 mg of the main substance in one capsule and sodium chondroitin sulfate, which contains 400 mg of the main substance in one capsule. These elements are the main components of cartilage tissue. If there is a deficiency in the body, the biosynthesis process will not proceed normally. But restoration of cartilaginous joints will not occur.

If glucosamine and chondroitin enter the body, they are very well absorbed and contribute to the following: eliminating inflammatory processes in the joints, renewing cartilage tissue and improving joint mobility.

Structure and function of joint tissues

The basis of the joint is made up of two bones that connect to each other. The bone tissue in the joint area is covered with cartilage. Depending on the location in the body, the function performed and the age of the person, cartilage tissue is of three types:

  1. Hyaline is the most common, part of the larynx, large bronchi, at the junction of the ribs with the sternum.
  2. Elastic - forms the basis of the ears and small bronchi.
  3. Fibrous - part of the intervertebral discs.

Regardless of the type, cartilage tissue is similar in structure. It consists of cells and intercellular substance or matrix. The intercellular substance is 60−80% water and also contains collagen and elastic fibers. The chemical composition of the matrix is heterogeneous: the leading tissue-forming substances are sulfated glycosaminoglycans (keratosulfates and chondroitin sulfates A and C), as well as neutral mucopolysaccharides.

Cartilage contains hyaluronic acid, which forms compounds with proteoglycans and chondroitin sulfates. It is this compound that provides the mechanical strength of cartilage and high permeability to water and organic elements to maintain tissue function. This connection is fundamental in the pathological process of the joint.

The cellular composition of cartilage tissue is represented by two types of cells - chondroblasts and chondrocytes:

  • Chondroblasts are young cells that synthesize substances for the matrix.
  • Chondrocytes are mature cells that perform a mechanical role.

Composition and properties of the drug

Teraflex belongs to the combined chondroprotectors. It contains glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, which determine its pharmacological properties.

Its healing effect:

  • provides the joint with nutritional components that are required to create collagen fibers (the basis of cartilage);
  • stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid, which improves the composition and properties of synovial fluid;
  • protects against the damaging effects of enzymes and medications (corticosteroids, NSAIDs);
  • prevents delamination of cartilage and intervertebral discs;
  • restores motor activity;
  • has a moderate analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect.

It is equally important that taking Theraflex reduces the need for medications (NSAIDs: Diclofenac, Meloxicam, Ibuprofen).

Popular Russian-made substitutes

Russian Teraflex substitutes are much cheaper than the original product, but relieve pain in joints, bones and muscles with the same effectiveness as Teraflex.

Menovazin

The Russian medication Menovazin based on menthol, procaine and benzocaine is an antipruritic medication with a selective and cooling effect. The use of the drug causes reflex changes in skin receptors, affects the surface of the epidermis and deep inside the arterial membranes, producing an anesthetic effect.

Menovazine is prescribed for:

  • neuralgia of various etiologies;
  • myalgia and arthralgia;
  • dermatoses, which are accompanied by severe itching.

Menovazin is not used in therapy in these situations:

  • allergy to a medication;
  • impaired skin integrity;
  • patients under 12 years of age.

Menovazin should be prescribed with caution to women who are breastfeeding and during pregnancy. Menovazin is applied locally to the site of the pathology 2-3 times a day and rubbed with light massage movements

This drug is intended for topical use, applied to the surface of the skin with the exception of places where the integrity of the skin is compromised. To achieve an analgesic effect, it should be applied 2-3 times a day. The drug can be used in monotherapy, as well as in combination treatment. Menovazine rarely shows side symptoms, but sometimes patients complained of the following signs of negative effects:

Chondroxide

Most often, Chondroxide is used in the treatment of osteochondrosis of the spine, as well as joints of peripheral organs. You need to apply the gel or ointment 2-3 times a day for 14-90 days. The duration of the treatment course is prescribed by the doctor.

Tablets are used in the treatment of degenerative pathologies of the spine, as well as small and large joints.

Prescribed with great caution during pregnancy and lactation. It is recommended to suspend lactation at the time of therapy

The tablets are intended to be taken orally, without being tied to meals. Dosage – 500 mg (1 tablet) twice a day. Duration of taking tablets is up to 6 months.

If Chondroxide is taken in therapeutic dosages, then there are no negative effects at all.

Composition and release form

The manufacturer of the local product is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies, Sagmel. It produces the drug in the form of a thick white cream with a slight yellowish tint and a specific odor. The ointment is packaged in 28.0 and 56.0 g in aluminum tubes, the caps of which are equipped with protrusions for easy opening. The secondary packaging for the drug is a laminated cardboard box. In addition to the tube, it contains detailed instructions for use.

Chondroprotectors for the treatment and prevention of joint diseases

The active composition is represented by chondroprotectors chondroitin and glucosamine, camphor, and peppermint oil. And to form a dense creamy base, the manufacturer used the following ingredients:

  • lanolin;
  • macrogol;
  • cetyl alcohol;
  • dimethicone;
  • propylene glycol;
  • purified water.

Auxiliary components ensure the gradual release of chondroprotectors into the joints affected by pathology. This is what explains the prolonged (long-term) therapeutic effect of Teraflex.

One of the additional ingredients of the external product is aloe phytoextract. It is intended to eliminate local manifestations of joint diseases: hyperemia and swelling.

Aloe phytoextract provides quick relief from inflammation and redness

Recently, the therapeutic line was supplemented with a new dosage form. This is Teraflex Hondrocream Forte cream. The compositions of it and its predecessor are significantly different. Instead of glucosamine, the manufacturer added meloxicam from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to the product. Therefore, Teraflex Forte is used to treat pathologies that are accompanied by severe pain.

Teraflex Chondrokerm Forte for pain in joints with pathologies

Pharmacological properties

Teraflex cream has a powerful chondroprotective effect, which is determined by chondroitin and glucosamine. These biologically active substances are produced in the body to build hyaline and fibrous cartilage. If their production decreases, then the coordinated work of the joint structures is disrupted.

The use of ointment helps eliminate the deficiency of chondroprotectors that have various pharmacological properties:

  • glucosamine The chondroprotector stimulates the biosynthesis of proteoglycans and hyaluronic acid, improving the production of synovial fluid. Glucosamine helps increase capsule permeability and restore enzymatic processes. It facilitates the deposition of calcium in bone tissue, inhibits the development of degenerative processes in joints;
  • chondroitin. Participates in the construction of cartilage and bone tissue, has a positive effect on metabolic processes. Chondroitin inhibits the destruction of all joint structures, inhibits enzymes that cause damage to cartilage tissue.

Camphor has pronounced local irritating properties. Upon contact with the skin, it affects the receptors of the subcutaneous tissue, providing blood flow. Damaged cartilage receives the nutrients necessary for its regeneration. A pleasant cooling effect is due to the presence of natural mint oil in the ointment.

The active ingredients have a healing and analgesic effect

Teraflex eliminates morning swelling and stiffness of movement, relieves inflammatory processes. It improves the quality of synovial fluid, which acts as a shock absorber. After a course of use of the drug, clicks and crackling noises when bending or straightening the joints disappear.

Reviews

I took the drug for a severe bruise of the hip joint. As prescribed by the doctor, it was necessary to take the medicine three times a day. The treatment lasted more than two months. The condition returned to normal, the pain went away, although the doctor predicted recovery in at least 4 months.

Valentina, 32 years old, St. Petersburg

Teraflex Advance was taken on the recommendation of a pharmacist at a pharmacy kiosk. I took the full course at 3 months and was pleased with the result, although sometimes there were slight disturbances in the functioning of the stomach. But the drug coped with the main task, for which I thank you, although I am skeptical about both medicines and doctors. It's better to do without them.

Gennady, 37 years old, Ryazan

Which drug is better

Teraflex includes two active components, which gives it an advantage. This also leads to the fact that it has more contraindications and side effects. It has other advantages - high bioavailability, faster results, no cases of overdose, and can be taken from the age of 16. Teraflex is safer to use when there are no contraindications. Chondroxide is recommended for older people with calcium deficiency.

A doctor who considers each case individually will help you choose a drug. It must be remembered that self-medication can be dangerous.

Incomplete analogues

They contain only one active ingredient out of the two presented in Theraflex.

Glucosamine

The drug contains the active substance of the same name, which helps restore the normal structure of cartilage tissue.

ContraindicationsSide effects (rare)
Individual intolerance Abdominal pain

Digestive disorders, stool

Kidney failure Headache
Phenylketonuria Allergic reactions with skin manifestations

The product has various forms of release: tablets, powder from which a solution for oral administration is prepared, a solution for intramuscular administration.

What doctors and patients think

Doctors quite often prescribe the drug "Teraflex" to their patients. Experts know that the product is indeed very effective because it does its job perfectly. Regular long-term use promotes active restoration of cartilage tissue, as well as an increase in the production of joint fluid. However, in order for the effect of treatment to be truly noticeable, it is recommended to take it in several courses after short breaks.

But patient reviews about Teraflex are quite contradictory. For some, this remedy really helped a lot, while others noticed absolutely no results. First of all, it all depends on the severity of the condition. Of course, serious tissue damage requires a very long recovery, so you should not expect instant results.

Reviews from patients about Teraflex confirm that the product really works. However, you need to be patient and continue treatment

It is very important when using Theraflex tablets to regularly visit a doctor to monitor your health.

How it works

The action of the capsules is combined and is determined by the main active ingredients: chondroitin, glucosamine and ibuprofen.

  1. Glucosamine has a beneficial effect on the synthesis of the main cartilaginous components (hyaluronic acid, proteoglycans, etc.), intra-articular fluid and joint membranes;
  2. Chondroitin promotes the rapid formation of new cartilage tissue, blocks the formation of enzyme substances that destroy cartilage, reduces the intensity of clinical manifestations, and allows you to reduce the dosage of non-steroidal drugs used. In addition, this component returns the joints to their former mobility and protects them from destruction;
  3. Ibuprofen, an anti-inflammatory drug, can relieve pain and has antipyretic properties. And the complex chondroitin-glucosamine effect helps to increase the analgesic effect.

Due to the presence of an anti-inflammatory non-steroidal substance, the capsules provide rapid relief from pain. The analgesic effect occurs almost immediately after taking the medicine. Although there is also a negative aspect to this.

Chondroprotectors must be used for a long time, since they begin to have a therapeutic effect only when they accumulate in the body in the required concentration.

What and when is best

For athletes, if problems arise, it is better and safer to use Teraflex. Theraflex is also suitable for teenagers. For older people with calcium deficiency, it is better to stick to Chondroxide.

In women, during the period of hormonal changes in the body, pathologies of cartilage tissue may be observed. They also occur in people living in unfavorable ecological zones, working in factories and other enterprises associated with toxic substances, in the category of overweight citizens and a passive lifestyle. To eliminate the above problems, both drugs are equally suitable.

Medicine and healthComment

Description of the dosage form, composition

Main active ingredients:

  • Glucosamine;
  • Chondroitin.

D-glucosamine or 2-amino-2-deoxy-β-D-glucose (C6H13NO5, Mr = 179.17 g/mol) is an amino sugar that is easily soluble in water and hydrophilic organic solvents. Its structure is identical to that of glucose except for the amino group, which replaces the hydroxy group. In medications (ointments, creams) it is present in the form of glucosamine sulfate or glucosamine hydrochloride.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine is obtained from crabs and shrimp because the chitin found in the exoskeleton is a polymer of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine. Glucosamine can also be synthesized in the laboratory. "Biological" or "ecological" glucosamine is derived from the fungus Aspergillus niger, which thrives on corn crops and is suitable for allergy sufferers and vegetarians. Glucosamine is a component of N-acetylglucosamine, hyaluronic acid, heparins, chondroitin sulfate and glycosaminoglycans. Glucosamine is usually present in formulations and packaging in the form of a salt (hydrochloride or sulfate).

Chondroitin sulfate is a natural glycosaminoglycan and copolymer consisting of repeating sulfated disaccharides N-acetyl-D-galactosamine and D-glucuronic acid. It is a long linear polysaccharide with a high molecular weight. Chondroitin is obtained from terrestrial and marine animals, such as organs from cattle, pigs, chickens and fish (shark). Sodium chondroitin sulfate is a white, hygroscopic powder that is very soluble in water.

Teraflex (tablets): nuances of use

Chondroprotectors are not potent drugs, so the medicine can be purchased at any pharmacy without a prescription (the price differs depending on the form of release).

However, this is not a reason for self-treatment. Store Theraflex tablets and cream at room temperature out of the reach of children. The shelf life of regular capsules is 3 years, and ointments and Advance forms are 3 years. As a rule, taking Teraflex tablets is not accompanied by any unwanted reactions.

But if signs of indigestion appear, the dosage of the medication is recommended to be halved. The ointment should not be applied to damaged areas of the skin. Teraflex Advance is strictly contraindicated in combination with other NSAIDs; if combination therapy is necessary, it is better to use regular Teraflex (tablets).

In addition, the use of ibuprofen capsules requires regular monitoring of laboratory blood parameters and consultations with a gastroenterologist. It is not recommended to combine the drug with alcohol consumption and smoking. The appearance of symptoms of erosive damage to the intestinal mucosa is an indication for discontinuation of the medication.

Important

Teraflex tablets do not affect the reaction rate.

Theraflex tablets: what does the medicine help with?

From the instructions for the drug "Teraflex" it follows that the indications for its use are:

  • primary and recurrent forms of osteoarthritis;
  • treatment and prevention of degenerative lesions of vertebral structures;
  • disruption of metabolic mechanisms in the cartilaginous elements of joints;
  • glenohumeral periarthritis;
  • acceleration of callus formation after a fracture of bone elements.

The drug "Teraflex" can be included in the complex treatment of various pathologies of the musculoskeletal system in adolescents and adult patients, when significant degenerative as well as dystrophic conditions in cartilaginous structures are identified. Taking the drug in therapeutic doses helps slow down negative processes, and also actively helps improve metabolic processes in tissues.

During treatment, patients indicate that pain and unpleasant stiffness in their joints are significantly reduced. At the same time, the need for high doses of drugs from the NSAID subgroup is reduced.

What does the medicine “Teraflex Advance” help with? The drug relieves inflammation and pain well. It is also prescribed for osteochondrosis of the spine and osteoarthritis of large structures.

Analogs can serve as a substitute for the drug:

  1. "Chondroglucide".
  2. "Structum".
  3. "Chondroguard."
  4. "Teraflex Hondrocream Forte."
  5. "Chondroxide".
  6. "Dona".
  7. "Teraflex Advance" (instructions for use are in the package).
  8. "Glucosamine Chondroitin complex."
  9. "Chondroflex".
  10. "Arthra".
  11. "Arthra MSM forte."
  12. "CONDROnova".
  13. "Mukosat."

Does Teraflex have cheaper analogues?

Your doctor will tell you what to replace the medicine with. A cheaper analogue is “Kondronova” (price 175 rubles). Cheaper than Teraflex is Glucosamine Chondroitin Complex (you can buy it for 340 rubles). The Russian analogue is “Chondroglyuksid”.

Which is better: Teraflex or Dona?

The analog contains only glucosamine. It is produced both in tablets and in injections. The effectiveness of the drug is also high, but it is used for a less wide range of diseases.

"Chondroxid" or "Teraflex" - which is better?

In this case, the situation is the opposite. "Chondroxid" contains only chondroitin.

"Arthra" or "Teraflex" - which is better?

The drugs are identical in action and composition. Is that the analogue of "Arthra" contains 100 mg more chondroitin. The cost of medicines is also comparable.

"Structum" or "Teraflex" - which is better?

The drug contains only chondroitin.

Drug interactions

The combined use of Teraflex Advance and tricyclic antidepressants, barbiturates, rifampicin increases the hepatotoxic effect. Combining it with antihypertensive drugs will cause a decrease in the effectiveness of the latter. Teraflex Advance enhances and prolongs the effect of drugs that normalize blood clotting, provoking the development of bleeding. If chondroprotectors are taken simultaneously with antacids, their clinical effectiveness is reduced.

Teraflex Advance is not used without the prescription of a rheumatologist, orthopedist, or traumatologist. It is characterized by pronounced side effects, which limits the range of applications. Without preliminary diagnosis, long-term use of Theraflex Advance will lead to the development of serious complications. Only timely consultation with a doctor and a properly designed treatment regimen will speed up recovery.

Side effects

Capsules have an impressive list of adverse reactions.
Patients often experience flatulence, gastralgic pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, constipation, and various allergic manifestations. The vast majority of side effects are caused by the presence of ibuprofen. When you stop taking it, all side symptoms go away on their own.

Possible adverse reactions can affect almost any system of the body:

  1. Heart, blood vessels - pressure increases, heartbeat increases, myocardial failure may develop;
  2. Hematopoiesis - the occurrence of a predisposition to bleeding, anemia, thrombocytopenia (pathologically low platelet count), bleeding and subcutaneous hemorrhages that occur against the background of low platelet levels;
  3. Respiratory system – shortness of breath and bronchospasms;
  4. Urinary excretion - cystitis, nephritis, acute kidney failure, nephrotic syndrome (severe swelling and an increase in the amount of fat and protein in the urine, excessive blood clotting);
  5. Nervous system abnormalities - headaches and sleep disorders, dizziness and irritability, depression and drowsiness, confusion and hallucinogenic manifestations;
  6. Digestion - gastralgic pain or dry mouth, nausea and vomiting or heartburn, stomatitis, diarrhea or constipation, bloating, hepatitis, pancreatitis;
  7. Allergic symptoms - itching, multiple rashes, urticaria, bronchospasms or Quincke's edema, anaphylactic shock or allergic rhinitis, pustular rashes, Lyell's syndrome (an acute process of necrosis of skin and mucous tissues, accompanied by numerous toxic lesions of internal organs);
  8. Sense organs – double and dry eyes, conjunctivitis or swelling of the eyelids, auditory disorders such as poor hearing or extraneous noise in the ears.

Why are analogues cheaper?

Teraflex - analogues are cheaper than the basic drug, many buyers know about this. But they don’t know why the analogue is cheaper. Analog medications are manufactured by pharmacists around the world. But a large amount comes from India. These are very affordable drugs that are highly effective and safe.

They are often used in medical practice. For the therapeutic effect of such medications to be noticeable, they must be used for a long period of time and in large doses. The Teraflex analogue is not always indicated for the patient. As a rule, the medication contains glucosamine hydrochloride, and not glucosamine sulfate, which differs from the base medication in characteristics and bioavailability.

  1. Many medicines were produced in Russia.
  2. Medicines produced in Russia are considered to be of higher quality than those from India.
  3. Glucosamine sulfate, like hydrochloride, can replenish damaged cartilage tissue in the initial stages of the disease.
  4. The therapeutic capabilities of the element are lower than its chemical analogue and it is used everywhere in pharmaceutical production for the preparation of chondroprotectors.

Therefore, before purchasing an analogue of Teraflex, you must consult with your doctor. The Teraflex analogue should be used under the supervision of a doctor. The doctor will definitely help you purchase the most suitable medication.

Analogues of Teraflex

Now in pharmacies you can find many analogues of the drug, which are available in the form of capsules or tablets. You can easily buy medication for oral or external use.

These medications are produced by different manufacturers. They differ in the amount of the main substance that they contain and differ in the list of auxiliary elements. Many of the analogues include an additional active substance. Several drugs and the active components in them will be listed below:

  1. Doppelherz Aktiv - glucosamine + chondroitin. It contains glucose 750 mg, chondroitin 100 mg.
  2. The medicine Chondroflex contains 250 mg of glucosamine and 200 mg of chondroitin.
  3. The next medicine is called Artra, it contains 500 mg of glucosamine and 600 mg of chondroitin.
  4. Artra MSM forte - contains 500 mg of glucosamine, 450 mg of chondroitin, 350 mg of methylsulfonylmethane and 11 mg of sodium hyaluronate.
  5. The drug Arthrocin contains 150 mg of glucosamine, 200 mg of chondroitin, 6 mg of vitamin E, 5 mg of vitamin C, and additionally contains plant extracts of willow and horsetail.

Teraflex is a drug of American origin, its price is quite high. Therefore, patients often wonder whether it is possible to purchase a Teraflex substitute cheaper, but so that the composition remains the same. You can find a drug substitute in pharmacies. There are analogues of foreign and domestic production. Substitutes are similar to the base drug, but they have the same pharmacological effects and effectiveness.

The difference between the drugs is only in the composition, but the effect of many of them is almost the same. Many substitutes have a lasting therapeutic effect, but the analogue can be much cheaper.

Form of release of the medicine and order of administration

The release form of Teraflex Advance is tablets or hard opaque gelatin capsules, which consist of a white body and a blue cap. The capsules also have the inscription “TERAFLEX ADVANCE” in blue. The capsules contain a heterogeneous white powder. Available in bottles of 30, 60 and 120 capsules.

One capsule of the drug contains 250 mg of glucosamine sulfate, 200 mg of sodium chondroitin sulfate, 100 mg of ibuprofen, as well as a number of excipients (cellulose, pregelatinized and corn starch, stearic acid, crospovidone, sodium carboxymethyl starch, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide and povidone).

It should be noted that tablets are taken in this way, Teraflex ointment is used somewhat differently, it has its own instructions for use.

Characteristics of the drug's action

Chondroitin sulfate has analgesic (pain relief), antioxidant, immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Chondroitin is also found in skin, connective tissue, bones, blood vessels, ligaments and tendons. In the intestine it is partially decomposed into monomers, which are then absorbed.

Glucosamine is an endogenous substance that is required for the synthesis of cartilage components - glycosaminoglycans or glycoproteins. The substance can have an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and chondroprotective effect. Glucosamine is relatively well studied compared to other supplements. However, clinical effectiveness is highly controversial and has not yet been clearly studied. The mechanism of action is unknown. Glucosamine may act as a substrate for proteoglycan synthesis or inhibit inflammatory mediators. Additional information can be found in the annotation for the drug.
