Chondroxide: a drug for restoring joint tissue

Stimulators of tissue repair, otherwise known as chondroprotectors, are designed to normalize metabolism, improve nutrition, and restore areas of tissue lost as a result of damage or degeneration. The most effective medicine in this group is Chondroxide; we will study the instructions for use in detail.

Due to the natural aging of the body, injuries, overloads and other reasons, changes occur in the cells and intercellular substance, which lead to disintegration, ulceration, thinning of articular cartilage, loss of strength, elasticity and gradual destruction of the tissues of the joints, ligaments, and bones. Degenerative-dystrophic disorders lead to the development of chronic diseases, accompanied by constant pain, swelling of the joints, a feeling of numbness, aches in the limbs, and loss of mobility. The progression of the disease is facilitated by a lack of adequate cell nutrition, disruption of metabolic processes and physiological tissue regeneration processes.

Before starting treatment with Chondroxide, you should read the instructions for its correct use. In addition to chondroprotective, it also has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

pharmachologic effect

The drug provides an anti-inflammatory and regenerating effect for osteochondrosis and osteoarthrosis.
Chondroprotectors with the main active ingredient chondroitin are included in the complex therapy of all diseases of a degenerative-dystrophic nature. Long lasting.

Complex and regular therapy slows down the degenerative process. If treatment with chondroprotectors is started at the initial stage, the drugs can completely block this process.

Chondroprotectors are presented in all dosage forms: pills, injection solutions, external agents. One of the most popular and effective drugs in this line is considered to be Chondroxide, presented in external forms in the form of ointment and gel.

Thanks to chondroitin sulfate in bone and joint tissues under the influence of the drug Handroxide, the loss of calcium is blocked. Chondroitin in the drug slows down degenerative processes and regulates phosphorus-potassium metabolism at the cellular level.

Useful video:

Chondroxide inhibits the activity of enzymes that can destroy cartilage tissue. Under the influence of the chondroprotector drug, the formation of intra-articular fluids increases.

The second component of Chondroxide is the substance dimethyl sulfoxide (dimexide). This is an excipient.

Thanks to the conductive abilities of dimexide, chondroitin easily enters the pathological focus, bypassing cell membranes. Dimethyl sulfoxide also has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, fibrinolytic and analgesic effect.

Processes that occur in tissues using the external agent of the chondroprotector group Chondroxide:

  1. tissue in the joint is restored, filled with intra-articular fluid;
  2. synthesis of important proteins occurs, which are found in large quantities in synovial fluids;
  3. Stiffness is eliminated, physiological joint mobility is activated;
  4. pain at the site of the lesion is relieved.

After clinical trials, it was proven that the positive effect of treatment with an external agent for six months lasts from 3 to 9 months.

Therapeutic effect of the drug

The drug contains the following components:

  • chondroitin sulfate
  • auxiliary additives.

The components of Chondrolone contribute to effective inhibition and limitation of degenerative disorders occurring in cartilage joint tissue. This factor is decisive when prescribed as a remedy against osteochondrosis. At the same time, there is a positive effect on metabolic phenomena occurring in the area of hyaline cartilage.

There is a regenerative improvement in the condition of the tissue, and the indicators of intra-articular fluid are restored. Pain is minimized and eliminated as joint mobility improves.

During the treatment of degenerative processes in the joints, accompanied by activation of secondary type synovitis, positive results are achieved 14-21 days after the start of using the drug. There is a decrease in joint pain, elimination of symptoms of reactive synovitis, and increased mobility in damaged joints. The therapeutic effect can persist for a long time after a repeated course of therapy.

Composition and release form

The effectiveness of the drug is due to the optimal combination of components - meloxicam and chondroitin in the form of sulfate, which in combination give the maximum effect of pain relief and inflammation.

Meloxicam is an anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drug that has an analgesic effect and relieves inflammation. Does not have a direct effect on the condition of cartilage tissue.

Chondroitin sulfate is a high molecular weight mucopolysaccharide. This substance is a natural component of cartilage tissue. When it enters the affected area, it restores the exchange of calcium and phosphorus, stimulates the production of glycosaminoglycans, prevents the destruction of connective tissue, restores the surface of cartilage tissue, inhibits destruction processes and accelerates regeneration. Sore joints become more mobile, pain decreases.

Chondroxide in the form of a 5% ointment is available in 30 g tubes.

Instructions

The instructions for Chondroxide state that the drug is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

The advantage of the medication is that it quickly enters the bloodstream from the surface of the skin. Within 3-4 hours after using the ointment or gel, the active substances reach their maximum concentration in the body.

The rules for using the product differ depending on the form of release.

Gel and ointment should be used twice or thrice a day. Chondroxide is rubbed into the skin over the affected area with light movements for 2-3 minutes. The course of treatment is selected individually by the doctor and depends on the severity of symptoms and the severity of the disease. On average, you need to use the product from 2-3 weeks to 2-3 months.

Chondroxide tablets are taken twice a day, two tablets at a time. It is advisable to take the drug with water. The minimum duration of therapy is six months. After stopping the medication, the effect of the medication lasts for another 3-5 months.

Chondroxide injections are given once every two days. A single dose of solution is 100 milligrams. If no side effects have been identified, you can double the amount of the drug after the fourth injection. For complete therapy it is necessary to give from 25 to 30 injections.

Restrictions

This product should not be used if a person has had allergic reactions to the main and auxiliary components of the drug. If undesirable reactions occur, you should immediately stop taking the drug and consult a doctor. Do not apply the gel to the skin if the integrity of the epidermal layer is damaged.

These contraindications are strictly established and prohibit the use of the medicine

The drug is prescribed with extreme caution to pregnant women and women who are lactating, as well as to children under 18 years of age. All of the above categories should use medications only after consulting a doctor

To date, there is no evidence that the drug has a harmful effect on the health of a pregnant woman and her fetus. Due to the lack of this information, doctors usually recommend the gel only if the benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the baby. The use of the medication without medical advice is prohibited.

Special instructions and precautions

There are a number of drugs (tablets, injections), the effect of which changes (increases or weakens) when using Chondrolone. The effect of the last drug may also change.

It is necessary to consider what medications the patient takes and for how long before prescribing Chondrolone. Some drugs are incompatible, while others, on the contrary, are recommended to be taken in combination. Sometimes it is necessary to stop one drug in order to treat with another drug.

During pregnancy and lactation

Pregnant and lactating women are not prescribed Chondrolon injections. Studies have not been conducted on these groups of people, but a negative effect of the components included in the medicine on the child is expected.

During lactation with breast milk, the baby will receive breakdown products of the drug. If treatment with this medicine is necessary, a woman is advised to temporarily stop breastfeeding.

During pregnancy, doctors pay attention first of all to the woman’s condition. If treatment cannot be avoided, they try to select an analogue that is safer for the fetus.

If this is not possible, the benefits of therapy for the mother and the harm to the unborn child are taken into account. Based on this, the doctor decides how optimal the use of the product is.

Prescription for children

The medicine is not used in childhood. The ban is due to the lack of data on how safe it is for a small organism and how effective it is in treating a pathological condition.

Under 15 years of age, taking the drug is strictly prohibited. Older people can receive a prescription from a doctor, according to which therapy will need to be carried out with Chondrolone. If the medicine is used before the age of 18, you must carefully monitor your health. If unpleasant symptoms occur, you should contact a specialist immediately.

Interaction of the drug with other drugs

If Chondrolone is used simultaneously with drugs that affect blood clotting, the effect of the latter is enhanced. If it is necessary to carry out therapy with these two types of drugs, it is necessary to regularly do a coagulogram in order to cancel one of the drugs if side effects occur.

Chondrolone also enhances the effect of drugs whose action is aimed at getting rid of thrombosis. Drugs belonging to the group of antiplatelet agents also become more effective when given as injections.

Often, NSAID drugs are combined with Chondrolone injections. Therapy in this case is considered comprehensive, treatment proceeds faster.

Alcohol compatibility

Like other drugs, Chondrolone is not recommended to be taken along with alcohol-containing drinks. This is due to the fact that the ethanol contained in alcohol can exacerbate the side effects of the drug.

Since the treatment is carried out in a course and lasts almost a month, it is recommended to completely abstain from alcohol during therapy. If this is not possible for any reason, there should be a long time interval between drinking a small amount of alcohol and the injection.

List of analogues

If it is impossible to include the drug in therapy, the patient is advised to take its analogue. Cheap remedies include Akos and dietary supplements. Their cost does not exceed 65 rubles. Akos tablets affect the metabolic processes occurring in fibrous and hyaline cartilage. Taking them reduces degeneration in the joints and stimulates the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans.

Akos promotes rapid restoration of bone tissue. While taking the drug, pain decreases and mobility in the affected joint improves. The therapeutic effect is observed over a long period.

Akos is based on the substance chondroitin sulfate. It inhibits enzymes that cause damage to cartilage tissue. Under its influence, the joint capsule is restored and the production of intra-articular fluid increases. During therapy, phosphorus and calcium metabolism improves, and the loss of trace elements in cartilage decreases. Structurally, the active component is close to heparin.

Of the expensive medications that contain glucosamine, orthopedists and rheumatologists prescribe Teraflex. Its price is 970 rubles. The drug regenerates cartilage tissue. It contains glucosamine and sodium chondroitin sulfate. The components prevent the destruction of cartilage.

Pros of Glucosamine:

  • good matrix production;
  • protection of cartilage from damage;
  • protection of damaged tissues from metabolic destruction provoked by the action of NSAIDs.
  • good matrix production;
  • protection of cartilage from damage;
  • protection of damaged tissues from metabolic destruction provoked by the action of NSAIDs.

Chondroitin sulfate promotes the formation of healthy cartilage. This stimulates the formation of hyaluronan. Chondroitin sulfate is contained in the drug Structum. The price of the medicine is 1100 rubles. The drug reduces degeneration in joints and stimulates the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans. Taking it reduces pain and increases the mobility of the affected tissues.

Of the ointment analogues, Arthro-Active is prescribed. You will have to pay 150 rubles for it. The drug reduces and relieves inflammation, reducing pain in the affected part of the joint. Arthro-Active reduces swelling by activating blood circulation, improving the mobility and functionality of the affected joint.

The chondroprotector in question is not available as injections. If necessary, supplement therapy with injections of Chondrogard and Mucosat. They contain chondroitin. Chondrogard components accumulate in cartilage. The synovial membrane does not prevent the penetration of the drug into the joint cavity.

Experiments have shown that 15 minutes after the injection, the active substance penetrates into the synovial fluid. It then enters the joint. Its maximum concentration is reached after 2 days. Mucosat injections inhibit degeneration by stimulating the regeneration of cartilage tissue. The drug has anti-inflammatory, chondroprotective and analgesic effects. With the help of Mucosat, the elastic and mechanical integrity of cartilage is restored. During therapy, the joint capsule is restored. Pain decreases and quality of life improves.

Analogs

Since the medicine cannot always be found freely available in pharmacies in the form of a solution, the most accessible and cheapest analogues of the drug are its other forms of release: tablets, ointment and Chondroxide gel.

However, if you are looking for a medicine in the form of an injection solution, choose a substitute that is one of the closest to Chondroxide in composition:

  1. "Artradol". Lyophilisate 100 mg, ampoule 2 ml. The average price in pharmacies is 500-700 rubles. You need to breed it yourself.
  2. "Drastop." Ampoules 100 mg, 1 ml, 10 pcs. Sold from 700 rubles per package.
  3. "Mukosat." Ampoules 100 mg, 1 ml, 10 pcs. The price varies from 500 to 700 rubles. Also available in packs of 5 pieces.
  4. "Chondroguard." Ampoules 100 mg, 2 ml, 10 pcs. Cost – from 600 rubles and above. It is administered both intramuscularly and intraarticularly.
  5. "Chondroitin sulfate". Lyophilisate 100 mg, 1 ml, 10 pcs. The price in pharmacies reaches 750 rubles. You need to breed it yourself.

Indications for use

Chondroxide in the form of gel, ointment and liniment is intended for external use only. These forms of the drug are used to treat the following diseases:

  • osteoarthritis (a disease in which degenerative processes develop in the spine and joints);
  • osteochondrosis (a disease in which degenerative lesions of the intervertebral discs occur);
  • osteoporosis (a disease in which bone tissue becomes thinner, causing frequent fractures).

Chondroxide is also used to stimulate the process of fusion of the periosteum in bone fractures.

The drug in the form of a lyophilized powder for the preparation of solutions is mainly used for healing wounds, trophic ulcers, and newly formed bedsores. The solution is applied externally, locally. Although the ointment can also be used to heal wounds, better results have been seen when using a solution.

Side effects

The solution of the drug "Chondroxid", unlike other forms of release, has some side effects. During treatment with the drug, allergic reactions of various types are possible: severe itching, rash, urticaria, intense redness of the skin (erythema), dermatitis or swelling. Cases of bleeding at the injection site are rare.

Warning. If symptoms of an allergic reaction occur, stop using the drug until the attending physician makes a professional decision.

Features of use

Before starting to use Chondroxide ointment or gel, you should carefully read the instructions for the drug, and also pay attention to several features of its correct use:

  • Do not apply the drug to mucous membranes or open wounds.
  • Avoid getting the gel or ointment in your eyes. If this happens, the eyes must be rinsed with a significant volume of running water.
  • If the medicine gets on your skin or clothing, it is easily washed off with water and leaves no traces behind.
  • The use of the drug for pediatric patients is not recommended, since its effectiveness and safety remain unknown.
  • The interaction of Chondroxide ointment or cream with drugs from other pharmacological groups has not been described.
  • The drug does not have a direct effect on the functional activity of the structures of the nervous system.

In the pharmacy chain, Chondroxide gel or ointment is available without a doctor's prescription. It is recommended to consult a medical specialist before using them.

Cost of the drug, analogues

All existing forms of Chondroxide are available without a prescription. Tablets and gel are stored for 2 years at room temperature (not higher than 25 degrees). The ointment retains its medicinal properties for 3 years, but it must be stored in a dark place in compliance with the temperature regime - at 2-20 degrees. You can purchase Chondroxide at any pharmacy chain. Average price is:

  • tablets 250 mg 60 pcs. – 570 rub.;
  • ointment 5%: 30 g – 320 rub.;
  • gel 5%: 30 g – 360 rub., 40 g – 390 rub.;
  • Chondroxide Forte cream: 30 g – 420 rub.;
  • Chondroxide cream Maximum 8%, produced in Singapore: 50 g – 1050 rub.

If replacement is necessary, you can choose another chondroprotector based on chondroitin sulfate, for example:

  • Chondroitin-Akos ointment, Artrafik;
  • Artra tablets (with glucosamine), Arthro-Active, Artra MSM Forte (with glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, methylsulfonylmethane);
  • Structum capsules; with glucosamine – Teraflex and Condronova; with glucosamine and ibuprofen - Teraflex Advance;
  • Chondroitin gel;
  • cream with meloxicam – Teraflex Hondrocream Forte.

All chondroprotectors are made from natural raw materials; due to the difference in extraction, purification and production technology, analogue drugs cannot be exactly similar. Before starting treatment, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Cheap analogues of Chondroxide

If intolerance to the drug is detected, side effects appear, or the manufacturer’s pricing policy does not suit, the drug can be replaced. Of course, it is recommended to do this only with the permission of a doctor.

Complete analogues of Hondraxid ointment are Hondra Strength and Hondraflex. Their advantage is their relatively low price.

If you are looking for a replacement gel, Chondraitin is perfect. Analogues of solution for injections are Artiflex, Artrida, Teraflex, Mucosat and Arthrox. The tablets are replaced by Structum and Hondrex.

Mucosat and Chondroxide - which is better?

The release forms of Mucosat are quite variable - the product is sold in the form of a solution for injections, capsules, tablets coated with dragees. However, all types of the drug are intended for internal use.

The active ingredient is chondroitin. Mucosat - indications for use compared to Chondroxide include fractures and osteoparosis. The drug is also used for speedy recovery after operations on the musculoskeletal system.

Side effects include allergies and swelling at the injection site. Contraindications are similar to those described in the instructions for Chondroxide.

Prices are approximately the same. 5 ampoules with a capacity of 1 milliliter will cost 350-400 rubles, with a capacity of 2 milliliters - approximately 600-700 rubles.

Chondroitin or Chondroxide - what's the difference?

The release form of Chondroitin is capsules and gel. The drug is sold in 30 or 60 tablets in a bottle or in the form of a tube containing 50 milliliters of cream.

The active ingredients of the pills are sodium chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine hydrochloride. The active components of the gel are glucosamine and chondroitin sulfates. In addition to them, the cream contains extracts of medicinal plants and D-panthenol.

Indications for use are identical to diseases that are treated with Chondroxide. The side effects of both drugs are also the same.

The main difference is the contraindications - Chondroitin can be used by children over 15 years of age.

The gel will cost the patient 100-150 rubles, tablets cost 350-450 rubles for 50 pieces.

Chondroxide and Structum - which is cheaper?

The dosage form of Structum is capsules. The drug is sold in 60 tablets in one package.

The indications for use of both drugs are identical.

The list of side effects is supplemented by the possible manifestation of dermatitis, urticaria, and Quincke's edema.

The contraindications are also the same, the only difference is that Structum is approved for use by children over 15 years of age.

60 tablets of the medicine cost approximately 1,500 rubles. In other words, Chondroxide is almost half the price.

Chondrogard or Chondroxide - which is better?

Release form Chondroguard is a solution for injections. The active component in the composition is chondroitin sodium sulfate.

The list of pathologies for which the drug is prescribed, in comparison with Hodroxide, has been supplemented with fractures. Contraindications and side effects are identical.

Chondrogard is a little more expensive than Chondroxide: 10 ampoules with a solution with a capacity of 2 milliliters will cost the patient approximately 1,500 rubles.

Main types

To understand what the most effective chondroprotectors for the spine exist, it is necessary to fully study the range of products that belong to this group. Doctors classify drugs into several types.

  1. The first is Rumalon and Alflutol.
  2. The second is drugs that are developed on the basis of glucosamine and hyaluronic acid.
  3. The third is products where the active element is chondroitin sulfate.

Taking into account which main active ingredient is included in the chondroprotector, the pharmacological effect of the drug differs. It is impossible to choose the best chondroprotector for the spine on your own. The prescription of medication should be entrusted to a professional doctor, who, after diagnosis, will be able to develop a comprehensive treatment regimen.

According to the method of administration, medications can be:

  1. For oral use (Piascledine, Structum, Artra). The results of the therapy can be observed after 10-12 weeks, but sustained relief occurs only after 6 months. The tablet form is well tolerated and causes almost no side effects.
  2. For injection use (Noltrex, Adgelon, Alflutol). The result can be observed after 4-5 weeks. The effect of the medicine lasts for a short time, so therapy is repeated every 6 months.
  3. Analogs of intra-articular injections (Synvisk, Ostenil, Sinokrom). They are administered intra-articularly and are used to restore synovial fluid during its shortage. The treatment complex consists of 4-6 injections. This, as a rule, is quite enough to obtain a pronounced and sustainable effect. Repeated treatment is carried out after 6 months.

Additional forms and varieties of the drug

In addition to Chondroxide ointment, additional varieties of this drug are produced with the same indications, contraindications, and, in addition, with similar instructions for use. So, the line includes drugs called “Chondroxid Forte”, gel “Chondroxide” and “Chondroxide Maximum”.

  • According to the instructions, “Chondroxid Forte” (there is no ointment with that name, the drug is available in the form of a cream) is a product for external use. It has a thicker consistency than Chondroxide. The course of treatment with this remedy is two weeks. In addition to chondroitin, this drug additionally contains meloxicam along with dimexide and auxiliary components for better absorption of the active substances.
  • The medication “Chondroxid Maximum”, like “Chondroxid Forte”, is produced in the form of a cream. Menthol is added to its composition, which gives the product a fresh smell and produces a slight analgesic and freezing effect. This variety of “Chondroxide” produces a stronger effect compared to classic ointment, since the main active component in this case is glucosamine. The fact is that its molecules are smaller, so they penetrate into cells much faster.
  • Chondroxide gel has a light texture and a pleasant smell. This variety has a more powerful analgesic effect than ointment. But the concentration of chondroitin in the gel is lower than that of the ointment, therefore the course of treatment with this drug will be longer and will range from two to three months.

In fact, the above means can replace each other if necessary. Thus, you can choose a drug with the most convenient composition, method of use, course duration and, of course, price.

Unfortunately, the instructions for use for Chondroxide ointment do not describe analogues.

Drug interactions and price

Chondroxide tablets in combination with anticoagulants and fibrinolytics enhance the effects of the latter drugs. With this complex treatment, blood clotting indicators are monitored. Simultaneous use of the drug with NSAIDs leads to an increased analgesic effect. Chondroitin changes the concentration of tetracyclines in the circulatory system. The drug in the form of an ointment enhances the effect of an antiplatelet agent, an indirect anticoagulant, and a fibrinolytic agent.

The price of Chondroxide tablets depends on the dose and manufacturer; they are sold in pharmacies with a doctor's prescription. Chondroprotector is considered a cheap medicine, since for a package of 60 tablets you will need to pay up to 700 rubles. The ointment costs 65 rubles and can be purchased without a prescription.

Mechanism of action and indications for use

No studies have been conducted on humans. During a clinical experiment on mice, it was found that the level of absorption of the drug was 14%. Scientists have found that Chondroitin in sulfate form quickly and selectively enters joint tissues, and after 30 minutes its concentration in the diseased joint is maximally therapeutic.

The drug is usually used for degenerative-dystrophic diseases of joints and cartilage. Osteochondrosis and osteoarthrosis of peripheral joints and spine can be treated with this gel. The product helps with knee pain and can be prescribed for preventive purposes. Additional indications can be read in the detailed instructions that come with the tube of medication.

Reviews about the drug

Specialists who prescribe Chondroxide in the complex treatment of osteochondrosis and osteoarthritis note that as a result, 11 out of 15 patients experience positive dynamics of the disease.

At the same time, 3 out of 5 patients who were diagnosed with an early stage of the disease no longer complain of symptoms of the disease due to their absence after a course of treatment with Chondroxide.

Here are some positive reviews about the drug "Chondroxid":

Liliya Drozdova, 55 years old: “I recently turned 55 years old. I am a former acrobat, and I do exercises from time to time to keep in shape. I clearly noticed this year that I had become “stiff”: it became harder to bend over and turn around when doing stretching exercises at home. And then my left shoulder started to hurt, and I had difficulty raising my arm. The doctor prescribed Chondroxide injections. I pierced them and became flexible and pliable. I highly, highly recommend everyone do them as they age. And I myself will do them regularly, as often as possible according to the instructions and the recommendation of the therapist.”

Sergey Vlasov, 34 years old: “I really like to go hiking in any weather, with evening gatherings around the fire and sleeping in tents. About a year ago I began to notice that my knees were aching more and more often, sometimes they really cramped, I didn’t know what to do with myself. At first I just used some kind of warming ointments, my wife bought them. I couldn’t stand it and went to the doctor. They diagnosed grade 1 arthrosis of the knee joints, prescribed UVT, advised me to sign up for a massage and prescribed Chondroxide injections. I was treated for a long time; I finished the course of Chondroxide a couple of months ago. Now I feel better, I can go out into nature on weekends again.”

Antonina Ignatieva, 61 years old: “I personally take chondroprotectors twice a year, and this allows me, at the very least, to live without pain. After a sports injury in childhood, she developed knee problems. Somehow, out of interest, I decided not to drink for a year, as a result there were pains, crunching, and wandering around hospitals. I returned to Chondroxide and everything went away.”

Vasily Nikiforov, 48 years old: “I have chronic spondylosis, as long as I can remember, I have always suffered from pain in the spine. I don’t like going to doctors at all, so in addition to the main treatment, I tried on myself everything that would delay my trip to the doctor. At home I wear a special corset so as not to hunch over, I went to acupuncture sessions, took pills and took injections of chondroprotectors, gave up smoking, and run an hour a day. For injections, I tried Khonsurid, I didn’t really like it, my vertebrae still clicked. I switched to Chondroxide, I’ve been using it for 4.5 years now, now I go to the doctor to get checked every six months and that’s it.”

Drug Artrafik

This medicine will be cheaper than most analogues. Available as an ointment. For comparison, Chondroxide costs between 360–430 rubles (30 g tube). The price of the same amount of Artrafik is on average 190 rubles. In both cases, the active component is chondroitin sulfate. It is contained in a concentration of 5%.

If you need to choose a cheaper substitute for Chondroxide, it is recommended to pay attention to Artrafik. This drug represents a group of tissue repair stimulators

The active compound in the composition has an effect on cartilage: it stimulates recovery processes and normalizes metabolism. In addition, chondroitin sulfate helps relieve acute symptoms: pain, inflammation. If you use Artrafik, with its help it becomes possible to prevent the further development of diseases such as osteoarthritis and osteochondrosis.

Other properties of the drug:

  • improvement of phosphate-calcium metabolism;
  • acceleration of cartilage tissue repair;
  • suspension of degenerative processes;
  • Arthrafik acts as an inhibitor of enzymes that contribute to cartilage damage;
  • elimination of inflammation of the tissues of the joint capsule;
  • increasing the intensity of synovial fluid production;
  • restoration of mobility.

In addition to the active substance, the composition contains the compound dimethyl sulfoxide. It helps improve the penetration of chondroitin sulfate through cell membranes. Thanks to this feature, the drug acts faster. The maximum concentration is achieved half an hour after application. The effect of the medicine is observed for 5 hours.

Indications and contraindications

Artrafik is a good replacement for Chondroxide. It is prescribed for osteoarthritis and osteochondrosis of various joints (peripheral and spine). It is recommended to use the drug as an auxiliary medication. The main treatment for joints is usually injections or tablets. Contraindications:

  • deformed skin in areas where lesions of cartilage and hard tissue are localized;
  • hypersensitivity to individual components that make up the drug.

During pregnancy, as well as during breastfeeding, Artrafik is permissible to use only if the probable benefit outweighs the harm. Allergic reactions may occur during treatment.

Instructions for use

According to the instructions for use, Chondroxide ointment is intended for long-term course treatment. When diagnosing the initial stages of diseases of the spine and joints, the drug is used for several months. Treatment of deforming arthrosis with chondroprotectors lasts 1-2 years.

In most cases, treatment regimens include both local and systemic agents. If necessary, therapy is supplemented with parenteral, including articular, administration of chondroitin sulfate.

Indications and contraindications

Chondroxide is an effective agent for pathogenetic therapy of degenerative-destructive pathologies. But doctors often prescribe it not only for the treatment of arthrosis, but also inflammatory diseases. Psoriatic, rheumatoid, and gouty arthritis often occur with complications. One of them is the destruction of the cartilaginous surfaces of the bone heads.

The use of a chondroprotector accelerates the recovery of patients with tendinitis, tendovaginitis, epicondylitis, periarthritis, synovitis, and bursitis. Chondroitin sulfate stimulates the restoration of connective tissue structures - ligaments, tendons, muscles.

Main indications for the use of Chondroxide ointment:

  • osteoarthrosis, including deforming ones (coxarthrosis, gonarthrosis, spondyloarthrosis);
  • thoracic, lumbosacral, cervical osteochondrosis.

The drug is not used in children and in the presence of hypersensitivity to active or auxiliary ingredients. It is not prescribed to patients who have microtraumas (cuts, wounds, cracks) in the area of application.

Directions for use and doses

Single dosages of Chondroxide depend on the size of the joints affected by degenerative pathology. To treat coxarthrosis (osteoarthrosis of the hip joint), at least 4 cm of a strip of cream squeezed out of a tube is required. For gouty arthritis of the fingers, 1 cm of external remedy is sufficient. The duration of the therapeutic course of any articular pathology is determined by the attending physician.

The drug is applied in a thin layer to the area of pain and inflammation, and then rubbed in with massaging movements. The chondroprotector can be used under orthoses, bandages, and other fixing orthopedic devices.

Side effects and special instructions

Chondroxide gel or ointment rarely provokes the development of side effects. There have been cases of local allergic reactions. A few minutes after application, the skin turns red, swells, and small pimples form on it. The drug should be washed off, take an antihistamine tablet - Loratadine, Cetrin, Tavegil. Then you need to consult a doctor to change the therapeutic regimen.

During pregnancy and lactation, treatment with Chondroxide is carried out only with the permission of a vertebrologist or orthopedist. The results of clinical trials did not reveal the teratogenic effect of the chondroprotector.

Pharmacological properties of Chondroxide

All forms of the drug have a similar effect. In general, the properties of Hondoxide of any dosage form are as follows:

  • Regeneration of cartilage and joint tissues;
  • Normalization of material metabolism in them;
  • Active participation in the formation of bone and cartilage tissue;
  • Chondrostimulation;
  • Stops the degeneration of cartilage and connective tissue;
  • Has an anti-inflammatory effect;
  • Inhibits the production of enzymes that damage cartilage;
  • Stimulates the production of fluid inside the joints;
  • Stops destructive processes in bones, restoring their structure;
  • Normalizes calcium levels and prevents its excessive leaching;
  • Slows down osteoarthrosis, osteochondrosis;
  • Reduces pain;
  • Triggers proteoglycan synthesis;
  • Increases the range of motion of affected cartilage and joints;
  • Helps reduce the dosage of anti-inflammatory drugs.

Thanks to the main active ingredient - chondroitin sulfate, which is obtained from cattle tissues, calcium-phosphorus metabolism in cartilage is improved and the processes that destroy them are stopped.

Dimexide ensures better absorption of active substances into cartilage, bone, and joint tissues, and provides an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect.

The therapeutic effect is observed for a long time even after the end of treatment.

The effect of the drug Chondroxide Forte, in addition to those indicated, is complemented by an anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effect due to the presence of meloxicam in the composition. This non-steroidal drug provides analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects on affected joints and cartilage.

Meloxicam, without causing harm to cartilage and joints, helps reduce mediators of the inflammatory process and pain in the lesions. Optimal proportions of components ensure enhanced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

Mechanism of action

Chondroxide is based on unique components that are highly active. When they enter the body, they accelerate the restoration of articular and cartilage tissue, due to which a person recovers faster from fractures. The active substances stop the dystrophic and degenerative processes that occur in tissues. They also help maintain joint mobility.

With regular use of Chondroxide, it is possible to get rid of pain and inflammation in the synovial membrane. The drug perfectly relieves swelling of the joints, thereby restoring motor activity. Such therapy has a positive effect on calcium-phosphorus metabolism, thereby strengthening cartilage and bone tissue. Chondroxide has the following properties:

  • Reduces pain with regular use.
  • Stops the development of the inflammatory process.
  • Stops the removal of calcium from bone tissue.
  • Normalizes the metabolism of minerals in cartilage.
  • Increases the production of intercellular substance of bones and cartilage.
  • Stops degenerative processes.
  • Prevents the production of enzymes that stop metabolism.
  • Accelerates the production of joint fluid.
  • Restores damaged tissue.

Pharmacological properties of the drug

The drug Chondroxide is popular due to its complex effects. The drug affects the body as follows:

  • Stops the development of diseases of the spine and joints;
  • Relieves pain;
  • Relieves inflammation;
  • Accelerates the regeneration of cartilage tissue;
  • Restores natural joint mobility;
  • Relieves puffiness.

The active ingredient of the drug, chondroitin sulfate, is a component of natural origin. Thanks to this product, Chondroxide starts the process of renewal of cartilage tissue, while simultaneously minimizing the effect of destructive enzymes on the structure. In addition, the drug stimulates the production of glycosaminoglycans and prevents the collapse of connective tissue.

How to use the ointment

The drug is used externally. A small strip of ointment (1-5 cm long) is applied to the damaged joint. It is recommended to use the product 2-3 times a day. The amount of the drug depends entirely on the area of the painful area.

After rubbing the medicine in, be sure to wash your hands well. The duration of such treatment is determined by the doctor, taking into account the indications and the effect obtained.

As a rule, it is recommended to use the ointment for two weeks. If you need to use the product for a longer period of time, you should definitely consult a doctor.

Adverse reactions and overdose

The chondroprotector is well tolerated by patients. Severe adverse reactions are rare. The gastrointestinal tract is most often affected by therapy. Worries about diarrhea, vomiting, flatulence, nausea. A skin rash may appear in the first days of treatment. After 2 weeks, the negative clinic disappears on its own. Adverse reactions of the ointment include allergies.

When taking tablets in a dose of more than 3 g per day, the risk of developing overdose symptoms increases: nausea, weakness, vomiting. In this case, the use of the chondroprotector is discontinued. Treatment is carried out aimed at eliminating the negative clinic.

Side effects

Side effects from using the solution occur infrequently. One of the most common pathological reactions is allergies. It mainly manifests itself in the form of skin rashes, which are accompanied by itching and burning.

A small hematoma may form at the injection site, which quickly disappears after stopping treatment. The occurrence of bleeding during therapy with this drug is extremely rare, but may be present in isolated cases.

If an abscess appears at the site of injection of the solution, it is necessary to stop treatment. This may be evidence of infection if the necessary antiseptic rules are not followed. Painful symptoms may persist throughout the course of treatment. The therapeutic effect can be noticed only at the end of 2 months of administration of the substance.

If bleeding and thickening appear in the area where the solution was administered, you must inform your doctor about this. In case of exacerbation of arthrosis, the feasibility of using the product is considered by a specialist.

Dosage regimens

Chondroprotector tablets are prescribed for treatment and prevention at a dose of 500 mg per day. The daily dosage is divided by 2 times and, if indicated, increased to 750 mg per day. It is recommended to take the tablets with water. Treatment lasts 5 months. The therapeutic effect lasts for 3 months after treatment.

If Chondroxide or Chondroxide forte is used, the ointment is applied three times a day to the problem area. Duration of therapy is 2−12 weeks. A repeated course is carried out on an individual basis according to the doctor’s decision.

Pregnant women and breastfeeding are contraindicated in taking the tablets.

The ointment is used with great caution. It is recommended to consult a doctor first

Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.

Thanks to the optimal combination of gel components, there is a mutual enhancement of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. The use of the drug Chondroxide allows you to reduce the dose of NSAIDs taken. Chondroxide contains the natural component chondroitin sulfate (high molecular weight mucopolysaccharide), which takes part in the construction of cartilage tissue. Chondroitin sulfate improves phosphorus-calcium metabolism in cartilage tissue; reduces the activity of enzymes that destroy cartilage tissue; inhibits the processes of degeneration (destruction) of cartilage tissue; stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans; prevents the collapse of connective tissue. This leads to decreased pain and increased mobility of the affected joints.

Chondroxide gel is well absorbed. In accordance with data obtained in experimental studies on mice using radioactively labeled 3 H-chondroitin sulfate, the absorption rate of chondroitin sulfate is 14%. Dimethyl sulfoxide promotes better penetration of chondroitin sulfate through cell membranes deep into tissues.

After applying the drug Chondroxide gel to the skin, chondroitin sulfate quickly and selectively enters the joint, reaching Cmax after 30 minutes and subsequent two-phase removal of the drug from the cartilage tissue. Completion of the rapid elimination phase occurs 1 hour after application. The retention time of the drug in the joint is 5 hours.

Description of the drug

Osteochondrosis and arthrosis are diseases that cannot yet be completely cured. Therefore, the main goals of therapy are to eliminate symptoms and transfer the pathology to a stage of stable remission. The only effective way to influence the pathogenesis of degenerative changes is the use of chondroprotectors.

One of them is Chondroxide. The therapeutic line includes ointment, gel with a delicate consistency and enteric-coated tablets. The clinical effectiveness of all products has been confirmed by numerous studies.

What does Chondroxide ointment help with:

  • eliminates morning swelling of joints and stiffness of movement;
  • prevents the formation of inflammatory swelling of soft tissues;
  • improves the functioning of the ligamentous-tendon apparatus;
  • stimulates partial regeneration of hyaline cartilage;
  • reduces the severity of pain, crunching, clicking that occurs during movement.

Doctors include the drug in treatment regimens and to reduce the dosages of glucocorticosteroids, muscle relaxants, and NSAIDs. These drugs, when taken for a long time, have hepatotoxic, nephrotoxic and gastrotoxic effects. Thanks to the use of chondroprotectors, the pharmacological load on the body is significantly reduced.

Clinical and pharmacological group

Chondroxide cream is included in the clinical and pharmacological group of chondroprotectors for external use. The drug also belongs to the stimulators of regeneration of cartilage and connective tissue joint structures.

pharmachologic effect

The range of applications of Chondroxide ointment is based on the pharmacological action of its active ingredient - chondroitin. This bioactive substance is produced in the human body and is characterized by affinity for cartilage tissue.

Chondroitin promotes sulfur fixation during the biosynthesis of chondroitinsulfuric acid. A chondroprotector with a wide evidence base of therapeutic effectiveness accelerates metabolic processes. It initiates the restoration of the cartilaginous surfaces lining the bone heads.

Chondroitin sulfate is characterized by diverse positive properties:

  • slowing down the resorption of bone tissue due to the deposition of calcium in them;
  • improvement of phosphorus-calcium metabolism in hyaline cartilage;
  • inhibition of the processes of degeneration of cartilage and connective tissues;
  • inhibition of enzymes that destroy joint structures;
  • stimulation of glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis;
  • acceleration of regeneration of the joint capsule;
  • increased production of synovial fluid;
  • preventing the formation of blood clots in the microvasculature.

The more chondroitin enters the joint cavities, the more moisture is retained in the thickness of the cartilage. The quality of synovial fluid improves and its shock-absorbing properties increase. After 2-3 weeks of course use of the ointment, it begins to have an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and decongestant effect. The range of motion increases in both large and small joints.

Release form and composition

The domestic manufacturer produces Chondroxide in aluminum tubes, each of which contains 30 or 50 g of ointment. It is a thick yellowish mass of jelly-like consistency with a pleasant odor. Secondary packaging is a cardboard box with instructions for use included. The active ingredient of the drug is chondroitin sulfate.

The auxiliary composition is represented by the following components:

  • dimethyl sulfoxide;
  • lanolin;
  • Vaseline;
  • monoglycerides;
  • purified water.

Dimethyl sulfoxide is often listed as an active ingredient because it has anti-inflammatory properties. It prolongs and enhances the effect of chondroitin, ensures its transepidermal absorption into pathological foci.

When choosing whether to prescribe Chondroxide ointment or gel to a patient, vertebrologists and orthopedists take into account many factors. These are the size of the damaged joint, the degree of progression of pathology and destruction of hyaline cartilage.

The gel is better absorbed by the skin and has a faster therapeutic effect. The ointment penetrates the joint cavities more slowly due to the presence of fatty substances in the composition. But this dosage form exhibits clinical activity longer, which makes it possible to reduce the frequency of use.

The therapeutic line of chondroprotector also includes Chondroxide Plus cream. Its second active ingredient is meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The combined composition explains not only the powerful analgesic effect, but also a fairly wide list of contraindications.

Storage conditions and periods

The shelf life of the drug is 36 months. After opening the aluminum tube, it is limited to 3-4 weeks. Chondroxide should be stored in a dark place at a temperature of 2 to 20°C. If the temperature regime is violated, the ointment will change its physicochemical properties and become unsuitable for treatment.

Which is better to choose ointment or gel?

External Chondroxide products have an identical composition in terms of the main active ingredients.

The indications and purposes of Chondroxide in the form of an ointment or gel are also identical. The only difference is the texture of the external products. The ointment is made on the basis of oils and fats.

The gel base is hydrophilic, and its pH is closest to the pH of human skin. This allows the gel to absorb faster.

The gel structure releases the active medicinal components faster and more easily, and is evenly distributed without leaving a mark on the surface of the skin. No special effort is required to rub in the gel.

This can be very important if the procedure is performed on an elderly patient or a patient with severe pain. If we consider the economic component, then Chondroxide ointment is much cheaper than its gel analogue

Gel is more expensive, but is used up faster

If we consider the economic component, then Chondroxide ointment is much cheaper than its gel counterpart. The gel is more expensive, but is consumed faster.

Contraindications for use

In some cases, a pharmacological agent can harm the patient’s health. There are contraindications that are an obstacle to its use in therapy:

  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or tendency to allergic reactions;
  • period of bearing a baby and breastfeeding;
  • children and adolescents up to 18 years of age;
  • severe kidney pathologies in an advanced stage;
  • liver failure, liver cirrhosis;
  • internal bleeding of various etiologies;
  • exacerbation of peptic ulcer with the threat of perforation of the wall of the stomach or duodenum;
  • acute pancreatitis;
  • cerebrovascular accident;
  • colitis and enteritis in the acute stage;
  • calculous cholecystitis;
  • recovery period after major operations on internal organs or coronary vessels;
  • acute stage of myocardial infarction;
  • thrombophlebitis or tendency to thrombosis;
  • bleeding disorders due to various reasons.

With extreme caution, the drug is prescribed to elderly patients with coronary heart disease, heart failure, angina pectoris, arterial hypertension, arrhythmia and other chronic diseases. External forms of the drug should not be used if the integrity of the skin at the site of intended application is damaged.

It is not recommended to combine the medicine with other chondroprotectors, as the risk of developing negative reactions increases. Concomitant use with anticoagulants requires constant monitoring of blood clotting parameters in order to prevent bleeding or blood clots. It is strictly forbidden to combine the drug with alcoholic beverages, especially for patients with epilepsy and mental disorders.

Side effects, contraindications, overdose

When using the drug externally, local allergic reactions may occur.

Chondroxide in the form of ointment is prohibited for use in the following cases:

  • individual intolerance to the components of the medicinal composition;
  • damage and non-healing wounds at the site of application;

The use of Chondroxide helps solve a large number of problems associated with diseased joints. Damage to cartilage tissue causes pain, inflammation, and in case of serious disturbances in its structure, degenerative changes occur in bone tissue. Treatment with ointment helps stop destruction, increases the volume of synovial fluid, which improves joint mobility and improves quality of life. The cost of the drug is high, so cheaper analogues and substitutes can be selected.

The main advantages of the medicine

Let's consider the advantages of Chondrolone:

Thanks to taking the drug, the protection of cartilage tissue is enhanced and intense synthesis is stimulated in the area of joints that are experiencing degenerative changes. The drug is often prescribed for the treatment of osteochondrosis and other injuries in the spinal column. It is important to achieve not just prompt relief of pain, but to activate the regeneration process, which will indicate recovery. A complete cure is usually not possible, but the drug helps limit the current destruction of tissue in the cartilage and prevent future destructive processes.

An important advantage of Chondrolon is its affordable price level. This is especially important since treatment of osteochondrosis with this group of drugs requires regular use over a long period of time. But a relatively low level of cost does not mean a low level of quality of the product. On the contrary, the drug is considered very effective; doctors often prefer it over other more expensive analogues.

Opinion of doctors and patients

Reviews about the Chondroxide gel are predominantly positive. Patients note that the medicine quickly eliminates pain symptoms and improves joint mobility. However, they also say that the gel only helps in the initial stages of the disease. If the problem is advanced, it is unlikely that it will be possible to get by with Chondroxide alone. You will have to undergo a full therapeutic course, including physiotherapy, medications, massages and special therapeutic exercises.

Another group of patients were dissatisfied with the use of the drug. Patients note that the gel brings only temporary relief, and after the end of the course of treatment, all painful symptoms return again.

Doctors unanimously say that the drug will give the expected result only in the case of complex treatment; it is not suitable for monotherapy.

Having examined the instructions for the Chondroxide gel and the price of the drug, we can conclude that the drug copes well with the task and is quite affordable for patients even with a small income.

How to use the medicine correctly

Injections with the medicinal drug are administered in the amount of 1 ampoule with 100 mg of the main component. Rules for using the drug:

  1. Injections are given intramuscularly every other day.
  2. To dilute the solution, the dry extraction is dissolved in 1 ml of water.
  3. If the body does not react with side effects and the drug is well tolerated, then it is allowed, if necessary, to increase the dose to 200 mg (contents of 2 ampoules).
  4. The dosage increases from the fourth injection.
  5. The duration of treatment corresponds to 25-35 injections of the drug.
  6. After six months, you can re-take the course of therapy. However, the duration of treatment when taking the drug again should be strictly determined by the treating specialist.

To experience a stable positive effect, it is advisable to take a course of at least 25 intramuscular injections. The achieved effect can be consolidated by undergoing repeated treatment.

The drug is approved for use in the treatment of adult patients. There is no experience of therapeutic effects in children.

A little more about chondrocytes

Chondrocytes are responsible for the restoration and production of substances necessary for cartilage. But the whole problem is that there are very few of them: only 5%, and the rest (95%) is cartilage matrix (collagen fibers).

In addition, among chondrocytes there are young, mature and aged cells. The parade is commanded, of course, by the mature ones. Others either STILL do not have enough strength to synthesize the substances necessary for cartilage, or ALREADY do not have enough.

But with adequate loads and normal nutrition of the joint, this is enough.

conclusions

Thus, for normal joint function you need:

  1. Mature chondrocytes receiving adequate nutrition.
  2. Normal blood supply to the joint.
  3. Adequate functioning of the muscles surrounding the joint.

Contraindications

Chondroskid is a fairly safe drug. Despite this, it is strictly prohibited to use it in the following cases:

  1. If the components are tolerable;
  2. For various bleedings;
  3. With thrombophlebitis;
  4. With a decrease in platelet aggregation;
  5. Children and pregnant women;
  6. With hypercalcinosis;
  7. If kidney function is impaired;
  8. For urolithiasis;
  9. For acute liver diseases.

Thrombophlebitis

Decreased platelet aggregation

Pregnant women

Pharmacokinetics of the drug

Is the drug in question absorbed? What does the instruction say about this? Chondroxide, when taken orally, reaches its maximum concentration in the blood within four hours, and after five hours it is detected in the joint cavities.

The bioavailability of this drug is 13%.

The maximum concentration of the drug in cartilage is observed within two days. It is excreted from the body along with urine in about a day.

Due to the content of dimethyl sulfoxide, the use of the gel ensures effective penetration of its active substance deep into the tissues. When applied to the skin, the maximum concentration of this medicine is observed after 30 minutes. The medication remains in the joint for five hours.

When do chondroprotectors “work”?

First of all, let's be clear about the following:

  1. Chondroitin and glucosamine are effective at stages 1-2 of arthrosis, when there is no destruction of cartilage and chondrocytes are alive.
  2. Chondroitin sulfate is a large molecule, approximately 100 times larger than glucosamine, so its bioavailability is only 13%.
  3. The bioavailability of glucosamine is greater, but also not much, only 25%. This means that 25% of the dose taken will reach the joint directly.
  4. The optimal therapeutic dosages of chondroprotectors for oral administration, according to practicing doctors, are as follows:
  1. To obtain a real result, 2-3 courses of treatment with these drugs are required, which will take up to 1.5 years.
  2. Practitioners advise taking chondroprotectors continuously for 3-5 months and repeating the course every six months.
  3. Chondroprotectors should be taken regularly, in courses, and not occasionally.
  4. There is no point in taking chondroprotective drugs if you continue to abuse the joint with excessive loads. To achieve the effect, you need to lose weight, and athletes need to give up regular training.
  5. You can take this group for a very long time and not see results if you do not provide normal nutrition to the joint. This requires special (!) exercises.
  6. For the production of chondroitin and glucosamine, cattle cartilage and extracts from marine fish are used. It is difficult to achieve 100% purification, therefore, when taking these drugs, allergic reactions and gastrointestinal problems occur (abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, etc.).
  7. Chondroitin sulfate reduces blood clotting, so it should not be used together with anticoagulants or if you are prone to bleeding.
  8. Chondroprotective drugs are contraindicated for pregnant and lactating women and children.
  9. Diabetics need to monitor their sugar levels especially carefully when taking these medications. It may increase (carbohydrates, after all).
  • Stimulates the activity of chondrocytes.
  • Necessary for the synthesis of chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid.
  • Reduces the activity of enzymes that damage cartilage.
  • Prevents the destructive effect of NSAIDs and glucocorticosteroids on cartilage.
  • Necessary for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid.
  • Normalizes the production of synovial fluid.
  • Reduces the activity of enzymes that damage cartilage.
  • Has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Reviews about the effectiveness of the drug

Natalya, 27 years old: Last spring my knees suddenly started to hurt. I tried everything, from folk remedies to antibiotics. As usual, I went to the doctor when all the methods had already been tried. Relief came unexpectedly in the form of prescribed Chondroxide - the pain completely disappeared after 10 days of daily rubbing.

Valeria, 35 years old : Chondroxide ointment has a high analgesic function, is easy to use and is simply irreplaceable for me, since I suffer from osteochondrosis. After six months of use, I would like to note the clear mobility of the joints, there is no inhibition or crunching. The possibility of cartilage restoration is questionable, but this will be noticeable over time.

Ruslana, 41 years old : The joints on my fingers were very painful, and various medications did not bring relief. Only Chondroxide saved me from pain. The duration of treatment at the moment is 2 weeks, and there is almost no pain. The ointment clearly has the ability to anesthetize the affected joint area, so I will continue to use it for prevention.

Composition of the drug

The main active ingredient of Chondroxide is chondroitin sulfate. This is a high molecular weight mucopolysaccharide that slows down the destruction of bone tissue and reduces calcium loss.

100 g of ointment contains 5 g of chondroitin sulfate, which is obtained mainly from the trachea of cattle, 10 g of dimethyl sulfoxide (promotes deep penetration of the substance into tissues, relieves inflammation and pain).

One tablet of Chondroxide contains 250 mg of chondroitin sulfate and excipients. Other drugs that are analogues may contain various additives in the form of vitamins, minerals and other components.

Chondroxide Maximum cream contains 8 g of active ingredient, and as excipients - peppermint oil and ascorbic acid.

The gel contains 5 g of active ingredient, dimexide and propylene glycol.

In what form is it produced? Compound

In all drugs in this group, the main component is chondroitin sulfate. In pharmacy chains you can find several varieties:

  • Pills. The drug additionally consists of calcium stearate, crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose. Sold in contour cells. The tablets contain 250 mg of active substance.
  • Gel. Contains demitelsulfate, napazole, propylene glycol and others. Available in small tubes.
  • Ointment. Contains petrolatum, lanolin, monoglycerides. The release form is the same as in the previous case.

How is the joint nourished?

The nutrition of the joint leaves much to be desired.

It does not have an independent blood supply.

Its “nurse” is the synovial fluid, from where the cartilage, through osmosis, that is, seepage, takes the nutrients it needs. And they enter the synovial fluid from the blood vessels passing next to the joint.

But even here, not everything is so simple.

The cartilage absorbs synovial fluid only when it moves: when the leg is bent, synovial fluid comes out of the cartilage into the joint cavity, when it is straightened, it goes back into the cartilage, delivering the necessary “food” to it.

When moving, the muscles attached to the elements of the joint contract, and due to this, blood is pumped through their vessels, delivering more nutrients to the cartilage.

Chondroxide Forte in capsules for joint therapy

An Indian manufacturer produces Chondroxide Forte in capsules (about 300 rubles) for the treatment of diseases of the joints and ligamentous-tendon apparatus. They are packaged in aluminum foil blisters of 10 pieces. The secondary packaging - a cardboard box - contains 30 capsules. The dietary supplement is intended to regulate tissue metabolism and stimulate the regeneration of joint structures. It contains the following active ingredients:

  • glucosamine . Protects hyaline cartilage from metabolic damage and stimulates matrix production. The structure-modifying properties of glucosamine are ensured by its ability to accelerate the production of chondrocytes;
  • chondroitin . Additional substrate for the formation of cartilage matrix. Stimulates the formation of hyaluronic acid by inhibiting hyaluronidase. Improves the properties of synovial fluid, stimulates its production;
  • ascorbic acid and tocopherol . Fat- and water-soluble vitamins exhibit antioxidant activity. They destroy free radicals, prevent joint destruction, and increase local immunity.

The dietary supplement also contains essential phospholipids, which restore and strengthen cells. The daily dosage of Chondroxide Forte is 3-6 capsules. The dietary supplement is prescribed to patients with tendovaginitis, bursitis, osteoporosis, and spondyloarthrosis. A course of capsules promotes the formation of callus after fractures.

Despite the fact that Chondroxide Forte is available over-the-counter from pharmacies, it cannot be used without a prescription from a rheumatologist or traumatologist. It contains active ingredients, the effects of which can worsen your health and cause side effects. Chondroxide cream is a symptomatic remedy used only in complex therapy.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics: description of action

Saponins, triterpenes and flavonoids accelerate wound healing. They exhibit anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties. Polysaccharides isolated from plants can stimulate certain immune functions. Plant extracts promote wound regeneration and stimulate the formation of new and well-perfused tissue.

"Hondrex" is used locally to treat the following conditions:

  • poorly healing wounds;
  • inflammatory diseases;
  • radiculitis pain;
  • burns;
  • dry skin;
  • eczema;
  • thrush;
  • hemorrhoids.

Calendula is said to promote digestion and bile production and cure stomach ulcers and indigestion. It is said to have an “estrogen-like effect.” However, experimental data do not confirm this effect.

Depending on the conditions and climatic zone, the plants that make up Hondrex may contain up to 50% bisabolol. It is a colorless, slightly sweet substance, soluble in oil and alcohol. Chemically, it should be noted that there are several isomers (alpha and beta bisabolol).

Bisabolol

Bisabolol plays a relatively large role in both medical and cosmetic applications (sunscreens, mouthwashes, irritated skin creams, makeup). However, many products use only synthetic bisabol, as the natural substance may have an allergic effect on some people. The substance is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and soothing. Antifungal properties have also been observed in some studies, which may be due to inhibition of so-called ergosterol biosynthesis.

Important! The cream can be used for no more than 1 week. If symptoms do not disappear, you should consult a doctor. In some cases, stronger and more effective treatment will be required. If severe pain occurs, you should immediately visit a specialist to find out the exact cause of the disease. It is not recommended to self-medicate, as this can lead to unpredictable consequences and progression of the underlying disease.

Indications and contraindications

Chondroprotectors are prescribed for joint lesions of a degenerative-dystrophic nature. More often, these drugs are a component of complex therapy, complementing and enhancing the effect of other drugs and treatment procedures.

Indications for use of Chondroxide:

  • osteochondrosis;
  • arthrosis-arthritis of peripheral and intervertebral joints;
  • osteoporosis;
  • autoimmune joint damage, in particular rheumatoid arthritis;
  • condition after surgical operations on joints;
  • consequences of injuries and chronic overloads of joints.

The product has a number of contraindications:

  • previous myocardial infarction or chronic heart failure;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • allergic intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • age up to 12 years;
  • chronic renal and liver failure.

Instructions for use of Chondroxide ointment indicate the presence of contraindications such as damage to the skin and muscles, severe manifestations of allergies.

Composition of the ointment

The main active component of the ointment is chondroitin sulfate. It is a natural substance obtained from cattle cartilage. Chondroitin is a high-molecular polysaccharide that slows down the process of calcium loss from bone tissue, normalizes phosphorus-calcium metabolism, and stimulates the synthesis of hyaluronic acid. The second active substance is dimethyl sulfoxide, which promotes better penetration of the main component deep into the tissues. Chondroxide contains the following auxiliary components:

  • stearate monohydrate;
  • magnesium carbonate (aqueous);
  • crospovidone;
  • povidone K 30;
  • microcrystalline cellulose;
  • purified water.

Indications

To achieve the desired effect from the drug, it should be used only when indicated.

Knowing the peculiarities of the drug’s action, we can highlight the indications for the use of Chondroxide; the instructions for use of the drug recommend its use if:

  1. Primary arthrosis of joints of various localizations.
  2. Osteochondrosis of the spine, intervertebral hernia.
  3. Deforming osteoarthritis of the joints (deforming arthrosis of the foot).
  4. Osteoporosis – in the form of tablets.
  5. Bone fractures - systemic use to accelerate the formation of callus.
  6. In dentistry for periodontopathy.

The most common reasons for prescribing Chondroxide are osteochondrosis of the spine and osteoarthritis of small joints of the hands.

In deforming osteoarthritis, the cause of the inflammatory syndrome is primary damage to the articular cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate contained in the medicine can prevent the progression of the disease for a long time.

Both pathologies are accompanied by the formation of inflammatory and pain syndromes. With long-term use of the chondroprotector, the intensity of pain and symptoms of inflammation decrease, which affects the well-being and performance of patients.

Pharmacology of external agents

What determines the effectiveness of the drug “Chondroxide Maximum”? Glucosamine sulfate, which is part of this drug, has chondroprotective properties. It reduces the lack of glycosaminoglycans in the human body, and also represents a specific substrate and stimulator of the synthesis of proteoglycans and hyaluronic acid.

The mentioned ingredient restores the cartilaginous surfaces of the joints of the spine and peripheral joints. It also has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

In addition to all of the above, glucosamine sulfate can reduce pain, reduce the need to take NSAIDs, and inhibit the formation of superoxide enzymes and radicals (phospholipases and collagenases), which damage cartilage tissue.

When do doctors prescribe the drug?

"Chondroxide" is one of the most modern chondroprotectors. A medicine of this type effectively relieves the inflammatory process and relieves pain, while protecting against further destruction of the structural components of cartilage and promoting their active restoration. The medicinal composition is used in the treatment of many diseases of the human musculoskeletal system. Experts recommend Chondroxide ointment if you are worried about pain and have identified degenerative and dystrophic changes in the joints.

For osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and osteochondrosis, Chondroxide is often prescribed. It is prohibited to use the product other than as prescribed by a doctor, as side effects may occur. Before prescribing a drug, the attending physician fully examines the patient and analyzes the results of the study. Only on the basis of the patient’s diagnostic results is a medical professional able to prescribe Chondroxide ointment. Indications for use of the product in the instructions should not act as a basis for treatment.

Chondroxide ointment - what is it used for?

Chondroxide ointment is a medicinal product created for external use with an anti-inflammatory effect that improves the regeneration of cartilage tissue. Joint pain occurs for various reasons: due to connective tissue diseases, musculoskeletal injuries, and infectious diseases. But the most common cause of pathologies is osteochondrosis - a progressive chronic disease that causes a deterioration in the quality of life, often leading to loss of ability to work or even disability. Chondroxide ointment helps to cope with the problem.

Dosage form

Chondroxide is available in the following dosage forms:

  • Ointment. Light yellow color. Sold in tubes or glass jars of 30 and 50 g. There is a smell of dimexide.
  • Gel. Available in tubes of 20-40 g. Has a fruity scent. The shade is yellow, the substance is transparent.
  • Pills. Available in blisters of 10 pcs. A pack contains 30-100 tablets. The color of the product is white-yellowish.
  • Chondroxide Forte cream. Available in tubes of 10-100 g. It has the smell of dimexide. The color of the product is yellow-green.

What is synovial fluid?

It is a filtrate of blood plasma, which contains hyaluronic acid, outdated joint cells, electrolytes, and proteolytic enzymes that destroy old proteins.

Hyaluronic acid binds and retains water in the joint cavity, due to which the synovial fluid moisturizes the articular surfaces of the bones, and they move relative to each other like clockwork.

And one more important point. The fluid in the joint cavity does not stand like in a swamp.

It circulates. Old cells die, new ones are born, the blood plasma filtrate is renewed, and for this process, like air, movement is necessary.

Composition of tablets

This drug is somewhat different from the above. "Chondroxid Forte" (tablets) contains the following active ingredients:

  • chondroitin sulfate;
  • glucosamine sulfate;
  • natural phospholipids;
  • vitamin E.

The chondroprotective properties of the drug are provided by 2 components, which are substrates for the construction of cartilage.

The beneficial effects of glucosamine sulfate are as follows:

  • replenishment of endogenous glucosamine deficiency;
  • stimulation of the synthesis of hyaluronic acid and proteoglycans;
  • restoration of the enzymatic process in the synovial membrane and cartilage;
  • increased permeability of the joint capsule;
  • normalization of calcium deposition in bone tissue;
  • inhibition of joint degeneration;
  • reduction of pain syndrome;
  • restoration of joint functionality.

Natural phospholipids provide the following properties:

  • antioxidant;
  • anti-inflammatory;
  • normalization and support of the functioning of cell membranes.

Vitamin E is different:

  • high antioxidant properties;
  • effective radioprotective effect;
  • stimulation of cellular metabolic processes.

Chondroxide gel and ointment - which is better?

What is the difference between chondroxide gel and ointment?

In fact, when treating degenerative changes in cartilage tissue, prescriptions for the use of medications are made by the attending physician. However, for preventive purposes or at the initial stage of development of the disease, it is possible to use Chondroxide independently, since the medication is safe for health.

Gel and ointment for joints Chondroxide have the same active ingredient chondroitin sulfate 5%. Dimexide is used as a conductor in both dosage forms. Excipients for the ointment include petroleum jelly, lanolin and monoglycerides; for the gel - propylene glycol, ethanol and some other chemical compounds necessary for the manufacture of a gel dosage form.

Indications for use of the gel and ointment are identical, these include:

  • prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis of joints;
  • therapy of osteochondrosis.

The undeniable advantage of Chondroxide gel and ointment is the absence of contraindications. This is because the drug does not cause side effects. In very rare cases, local allergic reactions in the form of itching and urticaria are possible. Naturally, preparations for external use are not used on damaged areas of the skin.

Pregnancy, lactation and childhood are a warning to the use of the drugs in question due to the lack of data on experimental observations. Use only with your doctor's permission.

The difference between Chondroxide ointment and gel lies in the very structure of each dosage form. Chondroxide gel does not require rubbing, after application it is quickly absorbed, forms a slightly noticeable protective film on the skin, and does not leave greasy marks on clothes. The ointment is the most oily and dense in consistency, more suitable for massage procedures. The active ingredient in ointment and gel, chondroitin, penetrates cell membranes equally well and quickly reaches damaged cartilage.

Chondroxide gel or ointment: which is more profitable?

If we turn to the issue from the point of view of financial benefits, then the ointment is slightly cheaper than the gel. Gels are somewhat more expensive in price, but this dosage form is consumed faster than a rich and rich cream.

Chondroxide joint gel is easy to use and is applied to the skin with patting movements. The ointment requires additional physical effort when rubbing, which is not very convenient for an elderly person.

Your attending physician will help you make the right choice between gel and Chondroxide ointment, who will also explain from a professional point of view all the advantages and disadvantages of using chondroprotectors for external use.

How is the joint structured?

So, a joint is a connection of the articular surfaces of bones, each of which is covered with cartilage.

The joint is enclosed in an articular capsule, or capsule, which is attached to the articulating bones. It ensures the tightness of the joint and protects it from damage.

Joint cartilage is a kind of lining necessary for the smooth sliding of the heads of bones relative to each other and for cushioning the loads that the joint experiences during movements.

Between the heads of the bones there is a slit-like space - the joint cavity.

The inner lining of the joint capsule is called synovial and produces synovial fluid into the joint cavity.

Synovial fluid is needed to lubricate the articular surfaces of bones, so that the cartilage does not dry out, and so that all functions of the ship work properly.

Cartilage in its structure resembles a sponge: when loaded into the joint cavity, synovial fluid is released from the cartilage, and as soon as the compression stops, the fluid returns back to the cartilage.

Medicinal properties

Chondroitin sulfate belongs to the group of high-molecular mucopolysaccharides and is a natural component of cartilage tissue.

The drug has the following properties:

  • The optimal combination of components in the drug provides the highest possible analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects
  • The use of “Chondroitin Forte” activates phosphorus-calcium metabolic processes in cartilage tissues
  • There is inhibition of degenerative processes and stimulation of the process of glycosaminoglycan synthesis
  • Enzymes that contribute to damage to cartilage tissue are actively inhibited
  • “Chondroxid Forte” cream protects connective tissues from collapse, enhancing the regenerative function of the joint capsule and cartilage.

The pharmacological effect of the drug is a regenerating, chondrostimulating and anti-inflammatory effect. The drug actively neutralizes joint pain, improving the mobility of the affected joints.

Why does arthrosis develop?

It most often develops as a result of one of four problems:

  1. Or they overloaded the joint (excess weight or sports loads that exceed the ability of the cartilage to absorb them).
  2. Or they UNDERLOADED it (hypodynamia, as a result of which the blood supply to the joint is disrupted, the cartilage does not receive adequate nutrition and begins to deteriorate).
  3. Or all together (overweight and physical inactivity).
  4. Or a serious injury that disrupts the metabolism in the joint and its nutrition.
  1. Chondrocytes do not have time (with OVERLOAD) or cannot (with UNDERLOAD) to form a sufficient amount of glucosamine.
  2. If there is no glucosamine, chondroitin is not formed.
  3. If chondroitin is not formed, hyaluronic acid is not formed.
  4. If hyaluronic acid is not formed, fluid is not retained in the joint.
  5. If there is little fluid in the joint, the articular heads of the bones are not moisturized.

Stage 1 arthrosis:

  1. Cartilage loses water, i.e. dries out.
  2. Collagen fibers are torn or destroyed completely.
  3. The cartilage becomes dry, rough and cracks.
  4. Instead of sliding unhindered, the cartilage of the articulating bones “clings” to each other.

Stage 2 arthrosis:

  1. The pressure on the bone increases.
  2. The heads of the bones begin to gradually flatten.
  3. The cartilage becomes thinner.
  4. The joint gap decreases.
  5. The joint capsule and synovial membrane “shrink.”
  6. Bone outgrowths – osteophytes – appear along the edges of the bones.

Stage 3 arthrosis:

  1. The cartilage disappears completely in some places.
  2. The bones begin to rub against each other.
  3. The joint deformity increases.

Stage 4 arthrosis:

  1. The cartilage is completely destroyed.
  2. The joint space is practically absent.
  3. The articular surfaces are exposed.
  4. The deformation of the joint reaches its maximum.
  5. Movement is impossible.

As a result of these changes, inflammation develops in the joint. It becomes swollen and the pain intensifies.

Now let's move directly to the drugs.

But first, a few basic points.

Precautionary measures

To prevent the use of Chondroxide from leading to serious complications, it is necessary to adhere to certain precautions. First of all, you need to take into account that injecting this medicine near open wounds is strictly prohibited. If you experience an allergic reaction or hemorrhage during therapy, therapy should be stopped immediately.

If injections are administered to older people, the specialist needs to take into account that the medicine reduces the level of cholesterol and triglyceride fats. Chondroxide should not be used if less than 3 months have passed since the treatment of periodontopathy. To reduce the likelihood of side effects, you should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages. Make sure that the components of the drug do not get into your eyes or mucous membranes.

To prevent serious complications from occurring, all precautions must be taken.
