Taking any medication is invariably accompanied by negative consequences for the body. For some medications they are pronounced, while for others they are weaker or not felt at all by the patient. We will find out what side effects of the drug Omez occur, how to minimize them, and in which cases therapy should be abandoned.
Omez is an effective remedy for the treatment of stomach diseases associated with high acidity
Drug interactions
How does omeprazole in Omez interact with other drugs? Let's figure it out:
- Against the background of this active component, iron is poorly absorbed (and, accordingly, drugs such as Maltofer, Sorbifer, Durules), some antifungals (Introconazole and Ketoconazole), as well as antibiotics from the ampicillin group (such as Sultasin , "Ampicillin").
- Taking omeprazole as part of Omez in capsules or powder increases the strength and duration of the effects of drugs such as Diazepam, Phenytoin, and indirect anticoagulants (these are Dicumarin, Warfarin).
- The effect of drugs that have a depressing effect on the hematopoietic system is enhanced (this includes “Cordox”, “Amicar”).
The simultaneous use of Omez D and the following groups of medications is prohibited:
- antacids (drugs that reduce the acidity of gastric juice - Almagel, Rennie) - the effectiveness of Omez D therapy decreases;
- anticholinergics (drugs that block cholinergic receptors - Diphenhydramine, Cyclodol) - the effect of Omez D is neutralized;
- macrolides (Erythromycin, Azithromycin), Nefazodone and HIV protease inhibitors (Ritonavir, Indinavir) - the level of domperidone in the blood increases.
If the drug is used for a long time, especially while taking diuretics (Furosemide, Diuvera), hypomagnesemia may develop. In this case, the doctor may additionally prescribe magnesium-containing medications.
Can Omez be taken with antibiotics?
There are three possible answers to this question: it is necessary, it is impossible and it is possible. Choosing the right one depends on the specific diagnosis and type of antimicrobial drug. In the first case, when Omez is necessary when taking antibiotics, we are talking about eradication of the causative agent of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Proton pump inhibitors, to which this drug belongs, have the following effects by reducing the acidity of gastric juice:
- prevent the destruction of antibiotics before they enter the bloodstream and begin to act (many antimicrobial agents are unstable to hydrochloric acid);
- reduce the risk of inflammation and ulcerative lesions of the digestive tract mucosa, since some antibiotics irritate it.
In other cases, when treatment with omeprazole drugs and antimicrobial agents are not interrelated, it is necessary to turn to a variety of the latter. For example, Omez cannot be taken with some antibiotics, since the low acidity of gastric juice prevents their absorption and, accordingly, reduces the effectiveness of treatment. This refers to antifungal agents - some derivatives of triazole and imidazole: itraconazole, posaconazole and ketoconazole.
Is it possible to take Omez with other groups of antimicrobial drugs? Yes, but sometimes its effect can be enhanced or weakened by antibiotics. For example, Rifampicin, used to treat tuberculosis, reduces the blood concentration and effectiveness of omeprazole, while Clarithromycin, on the contrary, increases it. In the first case, it is possible to increase the dose of the proton pump inhibitor; in the second, no correction is required.
Omez and antibiotics: how to take?
To eradicate Helicobacter, several antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor are prescribed simultaneously. Two schemes are most often used:
- three-component, 7 days - twice a day, 20 mg of Omez, 500 mg of Clarithromycin and 1000 mg of Amoxicillin (or 500 mg of Metronidazole);
- four-component, 10 days - twice a day 20 mg of Omez, three times 500 mg of Metronidazole, four times 500 mg of Tetracycline and the same number of times 120 mg of bismuth subcitrate.
With so many tablets, the question naturally arises about how to properly drink Omez with antibiotics. They should not be consumed at the same time; an interval of at least half an hour is required. In addition, omeprazole works better on an empty stomach, and antimicrobial agents are absorbed differently. The optimal dosage regimen is an Omez capsule 20-30 minutes before a meal, and then the rest of the medications according to their instructions for use.
Should I take Omez while taking antibiotics?
Often, antimicrobial drugs, especially in large doses, negatively affect digestion. In such cases, is it necessary to take Omez during and after antibiotic treatment? If symptoms indicate increased acidity of the gastric environment (heartburn, pain and heaviness in the stomach), then taking omeprazole is necessary. When indigestion manifests itself in the form of diarrhea, constipation and pain in the intestines, it is necessary to use medications that restore the balance of intestinal microflora. Omez is not suitable in this case.
Contraindications
Omez, like any other drugs, is characterized by the presence of contraindications
Despite the fact that there are few direct contraindications to the use of omez, the peculiarities of its pharmacological action force one to take certain precautions. They protect the patient from the development of side effects
In general, when used correctly, it is well tolerated, but in some patient groups its use is prohibited.
Omez is contraindicated for use in the following cases:
- individual hypersensitivity to omeprazole;
- children's age (up to 4 years – for capsules and up to 18 years – for intravenous administration);
- combined treatment with nelfinavir, atazanavir.
Thus, the drug is contraindicated for use in young children; for children over 4 years of age, dose adjustment is necessary. Nelfinavir and atazanavir are antiretroviral drugs that are used to fight HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). When using these drugs, omez cannot be used, as it reduces the concentration of antiretroviral drugs in the blood, which is very dangerous for HIV patients.
Omez has restrictions for use in the following cases:
- stomach cancer;
- liver failure;
- renal failure;
- osteoporosis;
- combined use of clopidogrel.
The presence of restrictions does not completely exclude the possibility of using omez, but warns against rash use. In case of stomach cancer, omez can hide the symptoms and complicate diagnosis; if the kidneys or liver are damaged, its removal from the body slows down. Use for osteoporosis increases bone fragility and can lead to fractures. Clopidogrel is a drug that reduces the formation of blood clots. Its combination with omez in practice can lead to unpredictable consequences for the cardiovascular system, so it should be avoided.
Hypersensitivity to omeprazole
One of the most important contraindications to the use of Omez is hypersensitivity to omeprazole or other components of the drug. It manifests itself in the form of various allergic reactions. Allergy to omeprazole is quite rare, but the patient may experience it. Allergy symptoms are quite unpleasant and can even be fatal.
Hypersensitivity to omeprazole when taking the drug may manifest itself as follows:
- the appearance of skin rashes;
- redness and swelling of the facial skin;
- nausea, vomiting, increased stomach pain;
- difficulty breathing;
- decreased blood pressure;
- loss of consciousness.
Why is Omez prescribed along with antibiotics?
This medicine is used in two forms: liquid for droppers and capsules. Taking Omez with antibiotics is recommended for almost all patients diagnosed with diseases of the stomach and duodenum:
- gastritis caused by pathogenic microorganisms Helicobacter pylori;
- Peptic ulcer disease of the gastrointestinal tract;
- reflux esophagitis;
- surgical intervention on the digestive tract.
The compatibility of antibiotics and Omez is preliminarily determined by doctors. If you take this drug as part of complex therapy, it reduces the acidity level of the stomach contents. In this case, the effectiveness of antibiotics increases. Additionally, to restore the mucous membrane of the digestive tract, the doctor may prescribe additional astringents.
When taking antibiotics, it is recommended to drink Omez for up to 2 weeks . It all depends on the severity of the disease. For severe pain, this remedy can be used at night. Reviews about the drug indicate that the positive effect develops within a few days, the product has a low level of toxicity. However, it can cause nausea and vomiting, and dizziness. Patients with hypersensitivity to antibiotics or omeprazole may experience hallucinations.
Release form and dosage
The drug can be purchased in the form:
- Enteric capsules, each of which contains 20 mg of omeprazole, as well as a number of additional components. They are clear gelatin shells with a pink cap and white granules. Each package contains 3 plates with 10 capsules.
- Omez D gelatin capsules. They are characterized by the presence of white powder in white capsules with a purple cap. Contains 10 mg of omeprazole and domperidone, as well as additional components. Sold in strips in cardboard packaging.
- Omez Insta powder. Available in sachets, each of which contains 20 mg of omeprazole and additional components, including mint flavor. Designed for preparing suspensions. You can purchase the powder in packages of 5, 10, 10 or 30 sachets.
Note! For any pathologies, the capsules are swallowed whole with a small amount of water. Chewing or opening them is not recommended, as this reduces the effect of the medication.
The fact is that enteric capsules are also acid-resistant, which ensures that they enter the intestines directly. Only if it is impossible to swallow is it permissible to open the capsule and mix its contents with 1 tbsp. l. applesauce and swallow immediately with boiled water. Mixing granules with other drinks is not recommended.
The course of treatment is determined by a specialist based on the test results and the diagnosis. Most often, in the case of Omez, it lasts 2–8 weeks, during which the patient drinks 1 capsule once a day in the morning. In severe cases, the dosage is doubled - up to 2 capsules per day.
If reflux or esophagitis reoccurs, the course of treatment may extend for 6 months. For the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the dose of the drug can be increased to 60–120 mg per day, taken in 2 doses.
Omez D is usually drunk twice a day, one capsule strictly 15-20 minutes before meals. Omez Insta is diluted in 1 - 2 tbsp. l. boiled water at room temperature and drink half an hour before meals. Due to the fact that its action is aimed at relieving heartburn attacks, it is recommended to drink it once a day when unpleasant symptoms appear.
Directions for use and dosage
Omez capsules should be taken early in the morning, without chewing and with a small amount of water. It is recommended to do this during breakfast or immediately before it. Let us consider in more detail what dosages are necessary for certain diseases:
For reflux esophagitis, exacerbation of gastrointestinal ulcers and NSAID gastropathy, the drug should be taken in the amount of 1 capsule once a day.
- For patients with severe reflux esophagitis, the dosage should be increased to 2 capsules once a day.
- For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, it is advisable to take Omez in the amount of 3 capsules. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 120 mg, but in this case it should be divided into 3 doses.
- To prevent relapses of gastrointestinal ulcers, the drug should be taken ½ capsule once a day.
- For patients who cannot be treated with other antiulcer drugs, this drug is prescribed 2 capsules per day.
- To destroy Helicobacter pylori, complex therapy should be used. To do this, you can use the following method: the drug “Omez”, “Amoxicillin” and “Clarithromycin”, or: “Omez” or “Omeprazole”, “De-nol” and “Metronidazole”.
Adverse reactions
Despite the fact that the medicine is well tolerated by patients, doctors do not exclude the development of side effects from various organs and systems. We are talking about the appearance of:
- symptoms of pancytopenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and other pathologies of the hematopoietic system caused by abnormal blood counts;
- depression, dizziness, headaches, insomnia, hallucinations, as well as increased excitability of the central nervous system, which are recorded in the presence of concomitant diseases;
- nausea, discomfort, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, changes in taste, stomatitis from the gastrointestinal tract;
- functional disorders of the liver, especially in patients suffering from hepatitis;
- exudative erythema, rash resembling urticaria, itching, alopecia;
- muscle weakness, myalgia.
Skin rashes most often occur due to an allergic reaction to the components of the drug. In severe cases, more dangerous manifestations may occur - anaphylactic shock, bronchospasm or Quincke's edema.
Note! It is extremely rare that taking the drug causes general malaise, swelling, and increased sweating. An overdose of omeprazole is characterized by:
An overdose of omeprazole is characterized by:
- drowsiness or increased excitability;
- visual impairment;
- confusion.
In this case, doctors prescribe gastric lavage and the use of enterosorbents - activated carbon. Additional medications may be prescribed to relieve symptoms.
Important! Long-term use of Omez is fraught with the development of granular cysts in the stomach. However, they are benign neoplasms and respond well to treatment.
Some patients note the appearance of intestinal spasms and hyperprolactinemia in women - a condition in which the pituitary gland produces too much of the hormone prolactin, resulting in disruption of the menstrual cycle and frequent headaches. Then the doctor reviews the dosage and course of treatment and, if possible, replaces the drug with analogues.
Use of Omez in the treatment of gastritis
Currently, the pharmaceutical market provides a wide range of drugs designed to treat various forms of gastritis. However, not all such drugs are highly effective and safe means for the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Today, many patients, having tried a lot of different medications, choose Omez. This is due, first of all, to the fact that Omez for gastritis allows you to quickly relieve all the main symptoms of this disease. It is also worth noting that this drug is almost always easily tolerated by most patients and only in rare cases can cause minor side effects.
When is Omez prescribed?
This drug can be prescribed by a doctor if the patient is diagnosed with gastritis with high acidity, since the pharmacological properties of Omez are aimed specifically at suppressing the production of gastric juice and hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
How does Omez work?
According to the instructions for use, this drug begins to act in full force 1-2 hours after it enters the human body. From the description it follows that even a single daily use of Omez provides round-the-clock control of the production of hydrochloric acid and gastric juice, creating the necessary conditions for the stable functioning of all organs of the gastrointestinal tract.
At the same time, the excipients of this drug reduce basal gastric secretion and block its main irritants. It is also worth noting that Omez is a fairly safe drug, which can be taken for the treatment of gastritis in patients who also suffer from various functional disorders of the liver and kidneys, due to the fact that it is almost completely metabolized in the liver and then eliminated by the kidneys.
Precautionary measures
Before you start taking Omez, you must undergo appropriate diagnostic procedures and seek advice from a gastroenterologist, since only a qualified medical specialist can accurately determine the diagnosis and prescribe the appropriate course of treatment.
Recommendations from a specialist are also necessary in cases where the patient plans to start taking Omez, and at the same time takes medications such as:
- diuretics (Acripamide, Diazide, Spironol, Bufenox, Furosemide);
- blood thinning drugs (Warfarin, Aspecard, Cardiomagnyl);
- antiplatelet agents (Cilostazol, Clopidogrel, Dipyridamole);
- anxiolytic and antiepileptic drugs (Diazepam, Valium, Phenytoin);
- drugs of the aversion group (Disulfiram, Colme, Alka-Seltzer);
- immunosuppressants (Cyclosporine, Azathioprine, Arava);
- antifungals (Ketoconazole, Ampicillin);
- cardiotonic drugs (Digoxin, Adoniside, Cardompin);
- drugs for treatment of AIDS and HIV (Reyataz, Invirase);
- various food additives and dietary supplements, iron content.
Side effects
The instructions list the following side effects:
- Problems with stool. Everyone may experience unpleasant symptoms differently. The drug can cause severe diarrhea and encourage frequent bowel movements. It can also cause a complete lack of stool and constipation;
- Painful sensations, bloating, heaviness in the abdomen;
- Severe nausea, rarely vomiting;
- Flatulence, severe gas formation;
- Liver disorders;
- Changed taste in the food the patient eats;
- Liver functions are impaired. In some cases, icteric hepatitis is possible;
- Stomatitis;
- Dry mouth;
- Disturbances in the composition of the blood. Rarely – leukemia;

- Deterioration of vision;
- Hair loss;
- Allergic reactions. Severe itching, redness on the skin and other manifestations of allergies;
- Possible swelling of the body;
- Increased sweating;
- Cysts in the stomach.
These side effects occur extremely rarely. If they appear, you should consult a doctor and change this medicine to another.
Appointment of Omez
The most common diseases for which a specialist may prescribe this drug are:
- infection of the stomach and intestines with bacteria that provoke severe functional complications of the gastrointestinal tract;
- dyspeptic pathologies of the stomach or intestines;
- stomach and duodenal ulcers;
- pancreatitis;
- release of food from the stomach into the esophagus;
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome;
- peptic ulcers;
- gastropathy due to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- erosive esophagitis;
- prevention of relapses of aspirin, stress and duodenal ulcers.
To treat with the drug, you must make sure that you have a disease from the above list.
Omez D capsules
Before taking the medicine, read the instructions. Omez D are capsules made from Omeprazole and Domperidone. With their help, you can reduce the production of hydrochloric acid and provide an antiemetic effect during the treatment of dyspepsia. The drug belongs to a group of drugs that inhibit the proton pump of the parietal cells of the stomach (the mechanism responsible for the production of hydrochloric acid). As a result of treatment, gastric secretion is normalized.
Omez D tablets are prescribed for various diseases, and they are needed to provide the following effects:
- preventing vomiting;
- rapid gastric emptying;
- improving the tone of the esophageal sphincter;
- improvement of peristalsis of the stomach and duodenum;
- reduction of aggressive effects and reflux of gastric juice into the esophagus.
Composition and release form
The product is available in capsules with a gelatin shell. There is white powder inside. The capsules are engraved with Omez D and DR.REDDY´S. The drug is sold in plates of 10 pieces with instructions for use, in cardboard packaging. What is the difference between Omez and Omez D
An important issue for gastroenterologist patients is the difference between the drugs Omez and Omez D. The second option includes not only Omeprazole, but also a similar concentration of Domperidone. Due to this, the capsules help not only normalize gastric secretion, but also prevent vomiting. In addition, Domperidone increases the tone of the lower sphincter, which separates the stomach and esophagus.
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Omez D is a combination drug based on components that block centrally acting dopamine receptors. Domperidone increases peristalsis of the antrum of the stomach and duodenum. If the patient has a slower process of gastric emptying, the drug speeds it up. Also, due to Domperidone, the tone of the esophageal sphincter is stimulated, nausea and vomiting are prevented.
Another action of the component is aimed at stimulating the production of prolactin by the pituitary gland. Domperidone does not affect the production of hydrochloric acid by the body. The component in the drug is responsible for blocking type 2 dopamine receptors, eliminating the inhibitory effect of the pleasure hormone on the digestive tract. Omeprazole blocks the production of hydrochloric acid at the last stage, thereby reducing stimulated, basal secretion. In combination, the components of the drug reduce the aggressiveness of gastric secretion and its reflux into the patient’s esophagus.
Domperidone is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. 1 hour after consuming the capsules, the maximum concentration of the substance in the blood plasma is observed. The bioavailability of Domperidone is about 15%. The component is distributed throughout all tissues of the patient and binds to blood proteins up to 90%. The substance is metabolized in the walls of the intestines and liver. Excretion occurs through the kidneys and intestines.
Omeprazole begins to act 60 minutes after oral administration. The maximum concentration of the substance in the blood is reached after 2 hours. The component is active throughout the day. Omeprazole is absorbed quickly from the gastrointestinal tract. The bioavailability of the component is 30-40%. The substance binds to blood plasma proteins by 90%. The main part of Omeprazole is metabolized by the liver. 70% of the substance is excreted by the kidneys, 30% with bile.
What does Omez treat?
This drug is prescribed to patients with gastrointestinal problems. Familiarize yourself with the disorders for which Omez D is used:
- stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer;
- hypersecretory conditions (systemic mastocytosis, gastrointestinal ulcers caused by stress, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, polyendocrine adenomatosis);
- gastroesophageal reflux;
- NSAID gastropathy;
- destruction of helicobacter pylori microflora in patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers;
- prevention of aspiration of stomach contents into the respiratory tract during general anesthesia.
Omez - instructions: take before meals or after meals?
The drug is used in different ways. Much depends on what pathology the patient has. Let's consider how and how much to drink Omez if you have specific diseases.
If your doctor has prescribed Omez capsules, take them half an hour before meals. It is not recommended to chew the capsules or divide them into parts. When the patient cannot swallow the tablet, it is allowed to dissolve it in warm water. The drug cannot be dissolved in other drinks. You should also not leave the prepared solution for later. Drink right away.
Adults - dosages
If with a duodenal ulcer , then the drug should be taken once a day, 0.04 g . Capsules are prescribed in combination with other medications. The course of treatment for pathology is 15 days. If the desired effect is not achieved, the course is extended to one month. The same dosage of the drug is prescribed for gastric ulcers, only the course of therapy lasts from 1 to 2 months .
For reflux pathology ( GERD ), capsules in a dosage of 0.040 g are prescribed 1 or 2 tablets per day. The amount of the drug is selected by the gastroenterologist. The duration of treatment can vary from a month to two. The duration of the main course also depends on the severity of esophagitis and is 4-8 weeks .
If patients with gastric ulcers have Helicobacter pylori, complex treatment with medications with Omez is carried out. There are several treatment regimens:
- Triple line . With this regimen, the doctor prescribes Omez 0.040 mg once a day. Clarithromycin 0.5 g , 2 times a day, Amoxicillin 1 g , 2 times a day. To increase the effectiveness of the regimen, the gastroenterologist may prescribe the patient to take 2 tablets of the drug per day. The treatment period is 1-2 weeks .
- If the first scheme is ineffective, then a second one . Treatment can last about 10 days . The doctor prescribes Tetracycline 0.5 g 4 times a day , tripotassium bismuth dicitrate 0.12 g 4 times a day , Omez 0.04 - once a day , Metronidazole 0.5 g 4 times a day .
The doctor will prescribe other treatment options if the first two are ineffective.
For Zollinger-Ellison pathology , polyendocrine adenomatosis, systemic mastocytosis, the gastroenterologist himself selects the dosage of the drug. Start taking the drug with 0.04 g once a day . If necessary, the amount of the drug is increased to 0.08-0.12 g per day . Naturally, this dosage is divided into two or three doses .
An ulcer that occurs while taking non-steroidal drugs is treated with Omez 40 . The dosage form in the form of capsules must be consumed once a day. Duration of admission is 1-2 months.
To reduce the acid balance inside the stomach, drink 0.04 g of the drug once a day.
Children - Omez dosage
- For children under two years of age with a body weight of about 20 kg it is recommended to use Omez 20 times a day. This dosage is effective for GERD. The duration of treatment with this medicine is from one month to two. Pediatrics prescribe dosages of the drug at the rate of 0.7-3.1 mg per kilogram of the child’s weight.
- If the ulcer is caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, then Omez is prescribed to children over 4 years old , weighing about twenty kilograms at a dosage of 20 mg once a day. In this case, the drug is combined with other pharmaceutical products. Their list includes antibacterial drugs. Omez is calculated at the rate of one to two mg per kg of child weight.
How to take the medicine?
IMPORTANT : When using a powder solution, you must follow the rules. You cannot prepare the solution ahead of time. One hundred milliliters of the drug should be injected into a vein for almost 30 minutes.

Omez - instructions: components of the drug
The drug is an inhibitor that blocks the intensive production of acid (hydrochloric) in the stomach, preventing its irritating effect on the gastrointestinal tissue.
How to drink Omez correctly?
- Omez is produced in the form of multi-colored capsules. On the front side of the gelatin capsule there is an inscription in the form of the name of this drug. White granules are placed inside.
- The active ingredient of this product is omeprazole . There are also excipients. These are: purified water, NaPO4, lauryl sulfate (NaC12H25SO4), sucrose.
- The dosage form is presented in various dosages: 0.010; 0.020; 0.040 grams.
- For intravenous administration, Omez is produced in powder form. It is diluted with a special solution, after which droppers are made.
General information
Omez is an antiulcer medicine that belongs to the group of proton pump inhibitors, or proton pump. In fact, the latter is an enzyme that takes an active part in the process of producing hydrochloric acid. It is an excessive amount of hydrochloric acid that often leads to the development of various gastrointestinal diseases.
The active ingredient of Omez is omeprazole. It acts as a blocker of the enzyme necessary for the production of hydrochloric acid. Thanks to it, the level of basal and stimulated secretion decreases, regardless of the reasons that provoked it.
Note! Along with the drug Omez, the drug Omez D is also produced. It includes an auxiliary component - domperidone, which has a pronounced antiemetic effect
In addition, the drug tones the lower esophageal sphincter, enhances intestinal motility and promotes the removal of processed materials from it.
In medical practice, Omez is prescribed for a wide variety of diseases and conditions, from those characterized by a mild course to those that develop into chronic forms.

Omez instructions for use
Taking the drug depends on the type of disease and disease, as well as the age of the patient. The possible calculation and how often, the dosage is determined by the doctor.
Dosage
The drug is administered orally, without chewing, with the required amount of water. In the acute period of a peptic ulcer, take the whole thing about half an hour before meals. The course of treatment and therapy in this case is about 4 weeks. The drug can be used before and after surgery. For the prevention of ulcers, 40 mg is used. 2 times a day. To prevent relapses - 20 mg. facilities. Contraindicated for children. Full recovery occurs after a course of 2 months.
During pregnancy, how to take?
During early pregnancy and breastfeeding, the drug is contraindicated, since no risk to the fetus has been identified.
For gastritis, how to take omez before or after meals?
Omez is recommended for gastritis and is considered one of the most effective remedies for restoring the gastric mucosa. You should take the medicine before meals for 3 weeks. Helps get rid of symptoms of active irritable stomach and heartburn. If for some reason you miss a dose, then next time you should not take a double dosage of the drug, it reduces intestinal secretion.
How does Omez work?
As mentioned above, the active ingredient is omeprazole. The substance has inhibitor properties.
When is Omez effective?
- The medication activates an enzyme that is involved in extinguishing hydrochloric acid. The process balances the content of this solution in the stomach so that the acidity is normalized. Thanks to this, the patient gets rid of heartburn, belching, bloating and other unpleasant symptoms.
- With the correct dosage of Omez, you can maintain a normal acid balance for a long time and prevent the development of gastritis or ulcerative pathology.
- After 40-60 minutes, the maximum effect of the capsule is achieved. The great advantage of the product is that its effect lasts for a day, so it is enough to take the drug one capsule a day. But for certain patients, the doctor may recommend drinking Omez twice a day. In this case, you will have to divide the prescribed dosage into 2 doses.
- The gelatin capsule dissolves in the intestinal environment. After all, it has the ability to dissolve only in the intestinal walls. When the patient stops taking the drug, the glands that produce stomach acid gradually begin their work after 3-4 days.
Omeprazole interacts with plasma proteins. It is excreted from the patient's body through the kidneys.
note
Among the side effects of Omez, in rare cases, a decrease in the number of leukocytes and hypersensitivity of the immune system are noted; Insomnia and confusion are possible. Aggression is rarely observed. On the part of the nervous system, taste disturbances, often headaches, and infrequently dizziness and drowsiness may be observed. During studies of the drug, enlargement of the mammary glands in men was observed. Diarrhea, constipation, and candidiasis of the gastrointestinal tract are also possible.
Omez may cause headaches
It is recommended to consult a doctor before taking the medicine and rule out cancer. With long-term treatment, from three months, patients had an increased risk of fractures
Elderly people should be especially careful. Also, with long-term use, the amount of magnesium in the blood may decrease, which leads to depression, convulsions, and delirium.
It is strictly forbidden to take “Omez” if you are intoxicated with alcohol. Interaction of the drug with alcohol can lead to severe vomiting, bowel problems, depression, and increased nervous agitation.
During pregnancy, Omez is not recommended, but doctors prescribe it if necessary: heartburn, relapses of peptic ulcers, indigestion, etc. The absolute exception for use is the first trimester. All components of the drug penetrate the bloodstream and can adversely affect the development of the fetus
As during pregnancy, Omez is prescribed with caution to children. Although, in general, manufacturers do not recommend taking Omez to children
If the need nevertheless arises, the doctor reduces the dosage by half.
There is one more feature of taking Omez by children. As many parents note, Omez is inconvenient to give to a child due to the form of the medicine - a capsule. Diluting its contents with water or sweet drinks does not give the desired effect. Omez-INSTA is most often used in powder form. If for certain indications (for example, a child is underweight), Omez is contraindicated, then the doctor may replace it with another medicine.
Omez - instructions: when to use?
Treatment with this drug should be prescribed by a medical specialist. A gastroenterologist prescribes Omez in an amount of 0.04 g for manifestations of gastritis, erosion, ulcers, pancreatitis, reflux and other pathologies. Contraindications and additional recommendations
Taking Omez is not recommended:
- During pregnancy and lactation, despite the fact that direct evidence of the harmful effects of the medication on the body of pregnant women has not yet been identified. The exception is a condition in which the doctor is unable to select a harmless analogue. But even in this case, the woman is recommended to consult a therapist and gynecologist.
- In childhood. It is not advisable for persons under 18 years of age to take Omez, especially since during this period their gastritis is usually treated with diets, and in severe cases with light medications such as Phosphalugel, Almagel. As a last resort, the pediatrician can prescribe half the dosage of Omez Insta to the student.
- In case of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.
- For intestinal or gastric obstruction.
- For brain tumors.
Important! You need to be very careful when taking the drug in case of renal failure. The maximum dosage allowed for such patients is 20 mg.
Dosage
For children
For acute peptic ulcers, the drug can be prescribed to children. The dosage of the drug is prescribed 1/2 of the dose for adults. But not everyone is allowed to use the medicine. There is an age limit. The medicine can be prescribed to children over 18 years of age. Your pediatrician will tell you how to take Omez.
- We recommend reading: De-Nol for children with gastritis
If a child under 18 years of age has gastritis, the doctor must prescribe a special diet for treatment, and not Omez. Instead of this medication, children are allowed to take analogues such as: Almagel, Famotidine, Phosphalugel.
For adults
The dosage of the drug for adults depends on the disease and the degree of development. Usually prescribed from 30 to 90 mg of the drug per day. If a person is diagnosed with a peptic ulcer or gastroesophageal reflex pathology, then intravenous administration of the drug is prescribed at a dose of 50 mg per day. If Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is detected in the initial stages, the dosage of the substance is from 70 mg per day.
Increased doses may be prescribed if the pathology has reached an acute form. The course of treatment is prescribed from 10 to 30 days.
If internal bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract is observed, the drug is prescribed at a dose of 90 mg per day intravenously. After 3–4 days, the dose is reduced to 15–25 mg per day. The course of treatment ranges from 7 to 23 days.
In case of kidney failure, take the drug according to the instructions (30 mg per day). In case of liver failure, the medication intake per day should not be more than 15–20 mg. Use with great caution.
The drug is administered intravenously over half an hour. The substance must be diluted in a 5% dextrose solution or 0.8% chloride solution with a volume of 100 ml. The diluted suspension can be administered orally throughout the day.
Does the medication have contraindications?
Contraindications to the use of “Omeza” and “Omeza Insta” are:
- hypersensitivity to the components included in the drug;
- sucrase/isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption;
- simultaneous use of drugs based on erlotinib, posaconazole, nelfinavir and atazanavir;
- age up to two years (can be used in children over 2 years old strictly as prescribed by a doctor);
- body weight less than 20 kg.
"Omez D" is prohibited for patients with:
- internal bleeding;
- intestinal obstruction;
- perforation (perforation) of the gastrointestinal tract;
- prolactinoma;
- children under 12 years old;
- lactation.
In pregnant women, the use of any form of medication is possible only if there are strict indications. And “Omez” and “Omez Insta” are approved for use by nursing mothers, since omeprazole does not adversely affect the baby. But, in accordance with the instructions for use, Omez D should not be used during breastfeeding.
Why is this so? The fact is that the main difference between Omez D and the usual Omez is that, according to the instructions, Omez D contains another active component - domperidone. This substance stimulates the synthesis of prolactin, the hormone responsible for lactation. Preparations based on it are prescribed for insufficient milk production. This explains why lactation is on the list of contraindications, that is, the manufacturer thus insures itself against possible consequences. True, despite this, Omez D is sometimes prescribed for breastfeeding.
Pharmakinetic action of "Omez"
The antiulcer drug belongs to the inhibitors of the H+-K+-ATPase enzymes and belongs to the drugs that are called “proton pumps” in medicine. The action of this drug is to block the release of hydrochloric acid in the parietal cells of the stomach.
After the active substance enters the stomach, within an hour it is absorbed into the bloodstream, the maximum effect is achieved after 2 hours. The effect lasts for 24 hours. As soon as the use of the drug ends, the secretory activity of the stomach is restored within 3-4 hours.
Omeprazole is metabolized in the liver, quickly absorbed and excreted from the body by the intestines and kidneys.
"Omez" - indications for use
Indications for the use of Omez are given in the instructions:
- peptic ulcer - an ulcer occurs in the stomach and duodenum, often in the bulbs, regardless of the etiology of the disease;
- hyperacid gastritis;
- erosive lesions of the digestive tract;
- reflux esophagitis;
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is the name given to a neoplasm of the islet apparatus of the pancreas, in which the secretion of gastrin increases;
- diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the cause of which is the use of non-steroidal drugs;
- chronic pancreatitis;
- prevention of relapse of peptic ulcer;
- increased acidity caused by hormonal changes, endocrine disorders, infectious diseases, that is, conditions that are not related to gastrointestinal diseases.
The instructions for the drug also indicate contraindications for its use:
- individual intolerance;
- pituitary tumors;
- intestinal obstruction;
perforations;
- internal bleeding in the acute stage;
- child's age up to 12 years;
- pregnancy;
- renal and liver failure.
The following side effects may occur when using the drug.
- The most common side effects occur from the gastrointestinal tract - flatulence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, intestinal cramps;
- less often - a violation of the blood count: leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia;
- further – allergic reactions, bronchospasm, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, arthralgia, urticaria, itching;
- hallucinations, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances;
- depression, myalgia;
- muscle weakness;
- taste disturbance, fever, interstitial nephritis;
- paresthesia;
- visual impairment.
Side effects are reversible. As soon as the medication is stopped, the condition returns to normal.
If the doctor considers it possible to prescribe Omez for liver dysfunction, the patient must analyze his own condition - the instructions indicate that side effects in this case may include obstructive jaundice or encephalopathy.
Instructions for use "Omez"
The instructions provide recommendations for taking Omez, but the doctor can adjust the therapeutic regimen based on the clinical picture.
When administered intravenously, the medicine - in powder form - is dissolved in saline or 5% glucose solution, then very slowly injected into a vein.
Capsules should be swallowed whole and washed down with plenty of clean water. How to take the drug correctly depends on the disease for which it is prescribed.
If the indication is peptic ulcer, reflux esophagitis or gastropathy caused by the use of NSAIDs, it is enough to drink 1 capsule per day - in the morning or in the evening, as is more convenient for the patient. If the patient’s weight is over 100 kg, or the manifestations of reflux esophagitis or peptic ulcer are acute, then it is recommended to take 2 capsules per day - at one time, or one in the morning, the second in the evening. Regardless of the instructions in the instructions, the doctor may decide to adjust the dose or course of treatment.
The course of treatment depends on the severity of the condition and can vary from 2 to 8 weeks. Prevention of peptic ulcers - take 1 capsule per day for 2 weeks.
For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the dose is increased - in this case, the instructions recommend taking 3 capsules per day (sometimes the dose is increased to 6 capsules). In this case, the medicine is taken in equal portions, 3 times a day, after an equal amount of time, preferably an hour after meals.
For Mendelssohn's syndrome, Omez is used in the form of an intramuscular injection - the first dose is administered before surgery, if the operation lasts longer than 2 hours, the drug is administered again.
In some cases, the intravenous injection is repeated after surgery at the discretion of the attending physician.
In case of liver and kidney failure, regardless of the type of disease for which Omez is prescribed, you should not take more than 1 dose of the drug per day.
Omez is also used in a therapeutic regimen to stop the activity of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. In this case, the drug is taken together with antibiotics and a drug containing the active substance - metronidazole. Triple therapy - antibiotics, an antimicrobial agent and an antiulcer drug - helps to get rid of pathogenic bacteria in 2 weeks.
Features of the use of "Omez"
If you take the drug simultaneously with Phosphalugel, it helps to get rid of the underlying disease faster.
If the patient simultaneously needs to take sedatives that contain sibazone, then their dosage must be reduced.
If side effects occur, omeprazole is discontinued.
If Omez does not help in the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, then it is canceled and analogues can be prescribed: Gastrozole, Pantoprazole, Nolpaza, Lanzaprazole. The selection of an analogue must be entrusted to the attending physician.
Mechanism of action
"Omez" is a drug from a group of drugs that have a pronounced antiulcer effect. While taking the medication, the production of hydrochloric acid is reduced and Helicobacter pylori (the main cause of stomach ulcers) is destroyed.
After the first use, the active substance “Omeza” is absorbed by only 30–40%, but if regular use is ensured, the absorption will double. The effect of the drug is quite rapid, the maximum concentration in the blood is observed 30–60 minutes after use. The effect lasts for a whole day. The secretory activity of the stomach is completely restored on the third to fifth day.
A type of medication "Omez D" also has an antiemetic effect. Thanks to this, the patient stops suffering from nausea. This occurs due to the fact that peristaltic contractions of the antrum of the stomach increase and the tone of the esophageal sphincter increases. The mechanism of action of this drug has not been fully determined. It can be assumed that they influence the area in the brain that is responsible for the activity of the digestive organs.
Description of the medicine
The active ingredient of capsules, suspension and solution for intravenous administration of Omez is omeprazole. The drug is prescribed in the following cases:
- ulcers of the digestive organs - stomach, esophagus and duodenum;
- reflux esophagitis - inflammation of the esophagus caused by the reflux of acidic stomach contents into it;
- long-term treatment with NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), which causes inflammation and damage to the mucous membrane of the digestive organs;
- excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach caused by tumors, stress and other diseases;
- operations under general anesthesia - to prevent stomach contents from entering the respiratory tract;
- eradication (destruction) of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which causes stomach or duodenal ulcers - in combination with antibiotics.
Because of the last point, the question often arises: Is Omez also an antibiotic or not? The main thing you need to know about antibiotics in order to distinguish them from other medicines is that they destroy pathogens (bacteria, fungi, protozoa). But Omeprazole and drugs based on it inhibit the production of hydrochloric acid by stomach cells and are not antibiotics. When eradicating Helicobacter pylori, they are used to prevent damage to the mucous membrane of the digestive organs and enhance the effectiveness of antimicrobial agents.
pharmachologic effect
Why do doctors prescribe the drug "Omez" to their patients? Indications for the use of this drug and its side effects will be described in detail in the following sections of this article. Now we will talk about the principles of action of this medication. When taken orally, the active substance omeprazole begins to have an antiulcer effect by reducing the levels of stimulated and basal secretions. According to the instructions that come with the drug, the therapeutic effect of the drug does not depend on the nature of the irritant. The auxiliary substance domperidone, which is part of Omez, has an antiemetic effect, increases the tone of the esophageal sphincter (lower), and also significantly accelerates gastric emptying (if this process has been slowed down). As practice shows, the therapeutic effect of the presented drug is observed in patients within the first hour after its use and lasts at least a day.
Omez dosage
The dosage and duration of use varies depending on the diagnosis made by the doctor:
- It is often necessary to administer the drug intravenously
Zollinger-Ellison disease requires taking one tablet three times a day. In some cases there is a need to increase the dosage.
- In case of exacerbation of duodenal ulcer, the medication should be taken one tablet per day. The duration of treatment is a month.
- In case of exacerbation of a gastric ulcer , as well as erosive and ulcerative digestive disorders resulting from taking non-steroidal drugs, a long course of treatment is required, about several months, more often two months.
special instructions
- It is possible to take capsules simultaneously with food, from which the medicine does not lose its effectiveness.
- Before you start taking capsules or administering Omez intravenously, you should rule out malignant processes, since therapy can mask symptoms, thereby delaying diagnosis.
- Sometimes there are circumstances when it is necessary to avoid swallowing a whole capsule, for which the drug is used in the following way: the capsule is opened and its contents are mixed with soft apple puree (1 tablespoon). You cannot take the contents of the capsule in any other way.
- The drug is unlikely to affect the ability to drive vehicles and operate precision equipment.
Omeprazole and alcohol: compatibility and consequences
Omeprazole is one of the most modern antisecretory drugs. It is used to treat stomach ulcers and gastrointestinal inflammation. Is Omeprazole compatible with alcohol or not? The answer to this question can be found below.
Description of the drug
Indications
Omeprazole and alcohol may be compatible with each other. The drug is used if:
Contraindications
Omeprazole should not be taken after alcohol. The main contraindication to prescribing the drug is intolerance to the components of the drug. It is also not recommended to take it:
- in the first trimester of pregnancy;
- during lactation;
- for gastritis with low acidity;
- for oncology of the stomach and duodenum;
- for osteoporosis;
- with a tendency to fractures (bone fragility);
- for intestinal infections;
- with renal and liver failure.
The drug contains the active substance - omeprazole. It also contains additional ingredients, namely:
- gelatin;
- glycerol;
- nipazole;
- titanium dioxide;
- sodium lauryl sulfate;
- water;
- dye.
The product is available in hard, opaque gelatin capsules. Can I take omeprazole with alcohol or not? Judging by the composition of the medicine, alcohol aggravates the patient’s condition, causes severe inflammation of the mucous membranes, and prevents the drug from working on the problem.
How to use
The standard dosage is 20 ml, but it is adjusted individually. The drug is prescribed in courses for up to eight weeks. For example, for stomach ulcers, the dose is 20-40 mg per day in two doses for one to two months. Combining omeprazole and alcohol is not recommended due to the high likelihood of adverse reactions and exacerbation of the disease.
If you take Omeprazole for a long time, a lack of magnesium occurs. The appearance of arrhythmia and convulsions is an alarming symptom, which will be eliminated by stopping use. High doses also provoke the leaching of calcium from the body, which leads to brittle bones, frequent fractures and dislocations. The medicine also has a negative effect on the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy, so its use is absolutely contraindicated. The active substance provokes the occurrence of fetal malformations and even miscarriages. You can take Omeprazole with caution only from the second trimester after consultation with your doctor. The drug does not inhibit psychomotor reactions and does not affect the ability to drive a car.
Omez contraindications
It is advisable to take any drug with a doctor’s prescription to prevent negative effects. The drug Omez also has its own peculiarities - contraindications are as follows:
hypersensitivity to components, allergy; age up to 5 years; pregnancy, lactation; the medicine cannot be used together with alcohol; take medicine with caution if you have liver failure or cancer; if you experience weight loss, vomiting blood and nausea for no reason, you should exclude the drug; long-term use is undesirable due to an increased risk of fractures of the hips, wrists and spine.
Intravenous use of omez
Omez in the form of a lyophilisate for intravenous infusion is available in a dosage of 40 mg. If severe diseases develop, the drug should be taken in powder form twice a day, 40 mg for invasive administration.
The solution should be prepared only immediately before use. Only a 5% glucose (dextrose) solution without preservatives can be used as a liquid. 40 mg of omeprazole is diluted in 100–200 ml of 5% glucose solution and administered intravenously using a dropper over 30 minutes.
In order to prepare the medicine for injection, you need to do the following:
- Fill a 5 ml syringe with 5% glucose solution.
- Add to the bottle with Omez.
- Shake the contents well.
- Draw the resulting solution into a new syringe.
- Add the liquid to a bottle with 100 ml of glucose.
- Perform the procedure for intravenous administration of medication.
Before starting the procedure, you must ensure that there are no impurities or suspensions in the solution. The intravenous administration of omeprazole should only be performed by trained medical personnel, a nurse or a doctor. Intravenous administration of omeza is preferred in case of severe exacerbation of peptic ulcer disease, reflux esophagitis.
For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, several infusions are performed throughout the day. The drug can also be used several hours before surgery to remove a gastrin-producing tumor or for Mendelssohn syndrome. This disease develops due to the entry of acidic gastric contents into the lower respiratory tract, lungs and bronchi.
What does it help with? Indications for use of Omez capsules
The remedy is most often recommended for gastritis and peptic ulcers, both for treatment and for the prevention of exacerbations. What else does the drug help with? Indications include various disorders of the stomach and esophagus caused by increased acidity:
- GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, including complicated by reflux esophagitis;
- chronic atrophic gastritis with high acidity;
- erosive gastritis;
- mixed gastritis;
- duodenitis;
- erosion, duodenal ulcer;
- idiopathic increase in acidity in the stomach (idiopathic hypersecretion);
- peptic ulcer, ulcer due to stress;
- ulcer, gastritis, erosion caused by taking anti-inflammatory drugs;
- systemic mastocytosis.
Omez tablets also help against infection - they help eliminate Helicobacter pylori, therefore they are prescribed in complex therapy along with antibiotics. The medicine is also given to patients with chronic pancreatitis - it has been proven that a course of treatment leads to an improvement in the functional state of the pancreas.
Omez is indicated for children in the following cases:
- The presence of a duodenal ulcer, which arose as a result of exposure to Helicobacter. Suitable for children weighing over 20 kg. and over 4 years old.
- The presence of gastroesophageal reflux in young patients over 2 years of age. Body weight should be from 20 kg.
Main indications
The drug Omez is prescribed for diseases accompanied by increased secretion of gastric juice. Also, the indications include pathologies in which the sensitivity of tissues to the acidic contents of the stomach increases.
Indications for use:
- Ulcerative diseases. Omez is used as part of complex therapy for ulcerative lesions of the stomach or intestines. The hydrochloric acid produced has an irritating effect, causing pain and preventing the ulcer from fully healing. The medicine can be used for both acute and chronic forms of pathology. Omez is also prescribed for therapeutic purposes, but with this use the risk of side effects is minimal.
- Reflux esophagitis. A pathology in which stomach contents regularly enter the esophagus. In this case, stomach acids provoke damage to the mucous membrane of the esophagus. The pathology is accompanied by pain, increased sensitivity to food temperature, burning behind the sternum, swallowing problems, and vomiting with blood.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. A pathology in which the pancreas is activated, which secretes substances that irritate the stomach. Because of this, the production of hydrochloric acid is accelerated, which leads to further damage to the mucous tissues.
- Ulcers due to medication use. Omez is prescribed for the treatment of ulcerative lesions caused by taking certain medications. In particular, we are talking about ulcers with long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Infectious lesion. The drug Omez is used in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases caused by the Helicobacter bacterium. The pathogenic microorganism provokes the formation of ulcerative lesions, which requires a decrease in stomach acidity.
Thus, Omez has a wide range of indications, including diseases accompanied by increased secretion of hydrochloric acid or the presence of ulcerative lesions.
Action of Omeprazole
Omeprazole is a structural analogue of Omez, since they contain the same active substance. The medicine is sold in capsules and lyophilisate for making a solution.
Considered a proton inhibitor. Promotes inhibition of ATPase in the parietal cell structures of the stomach. Against this background, the final stage of the formation of hydrochloric acid is blocked.
The therapeutic effect is observed 1 hour after application. The positive effect lasts throughout the day. Restoration of gastric activity occurs within 3-5 days.
Contraindications to treatment
If the patient is allergic to omeprazole, mebendazole and albendazole, then the medicine should not be taken. And in any case, only a good specialist should prescribe Omeprazole. You need to choose the dosage of the drug very carefully if a person has problems with the cardiovascular system, liver problems, or low levels of magnesium in the blood. A doctor’s consultation is also required if a person has the following symptoms before treatment:
- pain while swallowing;
- stomach ache;
- causeless weight loss;
- long-term (more than three months) heartburn;
- black stool (indicates the presence of blood);
- black vomit.
Omez: characteristics
The active ingredient is omeprazole , which can actively eliminate the symptoms of high acidity and unstable gastrointestinal tract function. Available in the form of capsules and powders for preparing solutions. Proton pump inhibitor prevents the production of excess hydrochloric acid. The effect after use occurs quickly (no more than an hour) and persists throughout the day. If you stop taking it, enzyme function is restored within a few days.
- Treatment of ulcerative lesions.
- Used in complex therapy of inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract.
- As a prophylactic.
Action of the drug, contraindications and side effects
The use of Omez for pancreatitis and other digestive diseases is justified because the antibiotic has a number of therapeutic effects. So, the medicine can inhibit the production of hydrochloric acid.
This reduces the production of gastric juice and reduces the intensity of painful symptoms. Omez can also act as a cytoprotector, protecting cells from aggressive acids, which promotes the healing of ulcers.
The active substances of the drug have a bactericidal effect. They destroy Helicobacter pylori and other pathogenic microflora that upset the gastrointestinal tract.
Reviews from doctors and patients indicate that Omez is a gentle medicine that has a number of advantages:
- quickly eliminated from the body;
- reduces the negative consequences that arise from taking antibiotics;
- prevents the development of ulcers;
- the drug is well tolerated by the body, which allows its use for up to 60 days;
- does not have a detrimental effect on the psyche and nervous processes.
Contraindications to the use of Omeprazole and antibiotics
Diseases often arise that require treatment with antibiotics that are incompatible with Omeprazole . Among these diseases is tuberculosis. It is caused by acid-fast mycobacteria - Koch's bacillus. These microorganisms are not sensitive to most drugs, so treatment of the disease must be approached with maximum responsibility. Rifampicin is an antibiotic that kills mycobacteria. It is not compatible with Omeprazole, as they reduce each other’s activity and the effectiveness of treatment is significantly reduced.
Also, these antibiotics in combination with PPIs are contraindicated during pregnancy. This is due to the teratogenic effect on the fetus and the development of abnormalities in the child.
Thus, not all antibiotic drugs are compatible with taking Omez. In addition, you should not drink alcohol during treatment, as this will negatively affect the treatment process. Omeprazole after antibiotics ensures the restoration of a normal environment in the gastrointestinal tract.
It is important to remember that any treatment entails consequences. In order to avoid this, you must follow the doctor’s recommendations and not skip doses of the drug to prevent the development of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

Every person experiences problems with the digestive tract at one time or another. The reasons may be different, but the result is always unpleasant. With gastritis, ulcerative manifestations, pancreatitis, special troubles are caused by:
- problems with appetite;
- pain in the abdominal area;
- nausea, vomiting;
- belching;
- flatulence and bloating;
- feeling of heaviness;
- stool disorders.
It is not always possible to completely remove the causes of such troubles. The consequence is problems of the digestive system, which are successfully treated by a number of modern drugs.
Side effects of antibiotics and rules for taking them
Diseases of the digestive system are very common and cause a lot of inconvenience. Most patients are concerned about abdominal pain, sour belching, stool disorders, and heartburn. The symptoms are very unpleasant, reduce the quality of life, require dietary restrictions, and often become chronic. Treatment is long, persistent, and expensive.
This is why effective medications are so important. Omez is widely used to relieve heartburn and improve well-being; its active component is omeprazole.
Forms of the drug for children
Contrary to the recommendations of the instructions, many doctors prescribe Omez to children for the treatment of diseases of the stomach and intestines. The drug does not have a tablet form. Therefore, it is impossible to crush the medication and mix it with something sweet for oral administration. Taking capsules does not involve opening them and mixing them with other substances, which significantly complicates the use of the drug in children who do not yet know how to swallow the medication whole. To be more precise, opening the capsule is allowed, but the effectiveness of omeprazole in this case will significantly decrease. Doctors recommend mixing the contents of the capsule with baby applesauce.
According to the instructions for use for Omez, for children the best option for treatment is a medication in the form of a suspension. Parents note that the suspension has an unpleasant taste, and the single dosage is quite large, which makes it very difficult for the child to take the drug. In addition, when taking the suspension, many children experience a gag reflex. However, sometimes this may be the only possible drug option for treating gastrointestinal problems in children.
To prepare the suspension, you need to mix the contents of one sachet of powder with two tablespoons of water. The prepared suspension must be used immediately; it is not allowed to be stored, since omeprazole quickly loses its properties.
A powder for preparing a suspension called “Omez Insta” is produced. It is taken 30 minutes before meals. However, if the child complains of heartburn or other manifestations of gastrointestinal problems, the drug is taken as needed.
The instructions for the suspension are similar to “Omez” in capsules; the main difference between them is the prescribed dosage and indications for use. Independent use of omeprazole can lead to problems with the gastrointestinal tract. In general, children tolerate drug therapy well, which, as a rule, leads to complete recovery. Therefore, despite the existing contraindications, pediatricians widely use the drug in their practice.
We found out whether Omez can be prescribed to children.
Dosage and Use
Therapy for ulcerative pathologies and gastritis is carried out in an amount of 20 mg 1 time per day, half an hour before meals. The duration of the course is from 2 to 4 weeks. If necessary, the doctor can increase the dose to 40 mg and extend treatment to 5-8 weeks.
Prevention of ulcerative lesions of the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestines - from 10 to 20 mg of Omez (30 minutes before meals).
For the treatment of GERD, 20 mg of medication is prescribed. It is necessary to take Omez 30 minutes before meals 1 to 2 times throughout the day. The duration of the course is from 2 to 4 weeks. It is possible to increase the course to 8 weeks, based on the patient’s condition and the course of the disease.
To prevent damage to the mucous membranes of the digestive system during therapy with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory substances, Omez is used in a dosage of 20 mg daily. The tablets are taken 30 minutes before meals. The duration of the course is from 2 to 3 weeks.
For ulcerogenic pancreatic adenoma, therapy begins with 60 mg per day (half an hour before meals).
If necessary, the amount of the drug used can be increased to 80 - 120 mg (the dose is usually divided into several doses). The duration of therapy in this case is prescribed by the attending physician.
Preventive therapy for Mendelssohn's syndrome, which occurs during surgical interventions under general anesthesia, requires the use of 40 mg of the drug 60 minutes before the procedure (once).
For damage to the mucous membranes of the digestive system associated with Helicobacter pylori, 20 mg of Omez is prescribed twice a day (30 minutes before meals, morning and evening) in complex therapy together with Amoxicillin or Clarithromycin, for 7 - 14 days.
Features of using the drug Omez
Omeprazole is included as a component in other drugs used in gastroenterology. These include omez D. This is a complex drug that contains, in addition to omeprazole, domperidone (hence the added letter “D” in the name).
Effects
The medicine has a variety of effects:
- reduces nausea and vomiting;
- increases the tone of the esophageal sphincter;
- enhances peristalsis and accelerates emptying of the duodenum;
- improves digestion.
Indications
Omez D is recommended to be taken primarily for the following pathologies:
- erosive-ulcerative esophagitis, in which, due to weakness of the esophageal sphincter, gastric contents are thrown into the esophagus, which causes heartburn, cough, and sour belching;
- dyspepsia accompanied by symptoms of heartburn.
Side effects
More often they occur when the recommended dose and duration of treatment is exceeded, liver and kidney diseases. Headache, visual disturbances, dizziness, drowsiness, depressed mood, and weakness may occur.
With prolonged use in the stomach, due to suppression of the secretion of hydrochloric acid, benign cysts can form, which disappear after discontinuation of the drug. On the part of the skin and the muscular-articular system, skin itching and rash, muscle and joint pain are possible.
Occasionally, fever, sweating, swelling, and changes in blood tests are observed. Against the background of liver diseases, hepatitis and jaundice are possible. It must be remembered that with constant use, addiction develops and the effectiveness of Omez D decreases. The doctor will select a drug with a similar effect.
Omez D, in addition, can give specific side effects:
- abdominal pain due to cramps;
- extrapyramidal disorders.
If side effects occur, you should consult your doctor, who will tell you how to take Omez D correctly or replace it with another medicine.
Contraindications
These drugs are potent and have serious contraindications:
- intolerance to components;
- age up to 12 years;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal obstruction;
- pituitary adenoma.
Important Notes
Only for strict indications is it prescribed to the elderly, patients suffering from liver and kidney diseases, since the elimination of the drug slows down and symptoms of overdose may occur.
It is advisable to undergo an FGDS before and after treatment to exclude oncology and to objectify the scarring of the defect. For reflux esophagitis, a biopsy and x-ray examination are prescribed.
How to use
In case of exacerbation of a chronic disease, use it for about a month, after which the dose is reduced according to medical recommendations. For chronic diseases, to relieve persistent heartburn, it is better to take it in courses, alternating with other antacids.
Overdose
Characterized by nonspecific symptoms of poisoning: Disorientation, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, arrhythmia. After gastric lavage and taking adsorbents, immediately consult a doctor.
Speaking about interactions with other medications, it can be noted that there are certain restrictions. Thus, Omez is not recommended to be combined with phenytoin, diazepam, warfarin, since in such combinations omeprazole significantly inhibits the elimination of the above drugs, which requires a reduction in their dosage.
It is also important to remember that before starting such treatment, it is necessary to undergo an endoscopic examination of the duodenum and stomach to make an accurate diagnosis.
Doctors' opinion about Omez and Omeprazole
Stanislav, 39 years old, Kurgan
Gastritis and stomach ulcers are frequently diagnosed diseases. To eliminate the symptoms of dyspepsia and avoid relapse, I prescribe Omeprazole to patients. I choose this drug because it fights the cause of the disease - Helicobacter pylori. It is inexpensive and therefore accessible to all patients. It is also effective for other pathologies. But it is better to use it in combination with other medications.
Alla Ilyinichna, 43 years old, Rostov-on-Don
Omez is not effective if taken alone. The drug is used to eliminate unpleasant symptoms. Normalizes the production of hydrochloric acid. If the medication is not on sale, it can be replaced with Omeprazole. But before use you need to study the instructions.
Interaction with other drugs
When treating various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, an integrated approach is possible.
Omez interacts with other drugs in different ways:
- With De-nol. The simultaneous use of these two drugs is permitted if prescribed by the attending physician. Sometimes they are included in the same treatment regimen,
- With Diclofenac. It is possible to combine medications. Omez is able to protect the stomach from the harmful effects of diclofenac,
- Omez is compatible with the drug Concor,
- It is allowed to take Salofalk and Omez at the same time,
- The simultaneous use of Omez and Trimedat will not bring any complications,
Omez is often prescribed by doctors when using antibiotics. This is necessary to protect the stomach from the negative effects of antibacterial agents on the stomach.
Why are drugs prescribed together?
Due to the fact that Omeprazole reduces the acidity of gastric contents, the effect of antibiotic drugs is enhanced. The combination of drugs is effective in eliminating the spread of dividing microorganisms, and Omeprazole, when taking antibiotics, promotes the antimicrobial activity of the drugs.
To reduce the negative impact of such a number of drugs on the stomach, you can prescribe the astringent drug De-Nol (it contains colloidal Bismuth Subcitrate). This is also used to stimulate the healing of deep and superficial defects in the mucous membrane of the organ. It, through the formation of chelate compounds, precipitates proteins and thus creates a thin protective film. The drug normalizes acidity and thereby minimizes the harm from taking Omeprazole and antibiotics.
What's better?
Pariet is considered a more effective remedy . It is used mainly in situations where the patient, in addition to problems with the stomach and intestines, also has other diseases or pathologies, and takes a significant amount of various medications. Rabeprazole interacts less with other dosage forms, which allows for better results. Used for ulcers, for prophylactic purposes, for eradication and in the complex treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is often used during treatment, taking into account the fact that the patient has liver failure; it is used with caution in cases of renal failure.
The advantages of Omez lie in its affordable price. It is used in complex therapy of various diseases, gastrointestinal inflammation (including ulcerative lesions). Absolutely contraindicated in case of liver or kidney failure.
Effective aid to the digestive tract
Diseases of the digestive system require medical intervention. Usually, the attending physician prescribes antiulcer drugs to reduce the intensity of hydrochloric acid production in the stomach. Omeprazole, a modern antisecretory agent, is considered an effective medication of this type. Belongs to a large group of proton pump inhibitors. Most often, it is used in the treatment of ulcerative manifestations, heartburn, gastritis, pancreatitis. Designed to suppress the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, reduce its activity, and protect the mucous membrane from aggressive effects with increased concentrations of gastric juice. Therefore, it is better to use the product before meals.
Comparison of Omez and Omeprazole
The drugs are considered structural analogues. They have one active ingredient. Despite this, there are not only similarities between the drugs, but also differences.
Similarities
Medicines are included in one category. They are proton pump inhibitors. Their effect is based on reducing the production of hydrochloric acid, which prevents re-irritation of the gastric walls.
They have the same list of indications. Drugs are prescribed for:
- peptic ulcers of the duodenum and stomach;
- erosive and ulcerative esophagitis;
- benign ulcer;
- prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- gastroesophageal reflux disease.
If medications cannot be taken orally, they are administered intravenously.
Not prescribed in cases of increased sensitivity to the components of the drug, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Differences
One of the main differences is the presence of auxiliary components. Omez contains:
- dibasic sodium phosphate;
- sucrose;
- sodium lauryl sulfate;
- purified water.
Omeprazole consists of E-additives, sodium dodecyl sulfate and hydrogen phosphate, dodecahydrate, cetyl alcohol, sucrose and hypromelose. This composition improves the absorption of the active component.
Has a large list of indications. Capsules and injections are prescribed for stomach lesions of Helicobacter pylori, ulcerogenic pancreatic adenoma, and dyspeptic syndrome. Used to prevent aspiration of gastric contents.
The country of production also differs. Omez is produced by the Indian company Dr. Reddy'S Laboratories Ltd., Omeprazole - in Russia, Israel and Hungary.
The second drug is approved for use in children over 5 years of age. But only the doctor prescribes the dosage, based on the indications and weight of the patient.
Which is cheaper?
Omeprazole is produced by several pharmaceutical companies. But this does not affect the price. It is cheaper than its analogue and costs between 43-150 rubles.
Omez will cost more. The price is 74-362 rubles.
Analogues of the drug
The medicine has analogues both Russian and foreign. You should not choose an analogue without consulting a specialist.
The following Omez substitutes exist:
- Omeprazole,
- Nolpaza,
- Omecaps,
- Gastrozol,
- Demeprazole,
- Ultop,
- Chrismel,
- Omezol,
- Ranitidine,
- Orantol,
- De Nol.
Ultop Ornatol Ranitidine Omeprazole Nolpaza Gastrozol Omezol Demeprazole De-Nol
Prices for these medications will vary depending on who produces the product.
Omez and Nolpaza
The effects of these drugs are approximately the same. They both help the body reduce hydrochloric acid levels. They also reduce symptoms of serious gastrointestinal ailments.
Nolpaz contains an active substance. It's called Pantoprazole. The advantage of Nolpaza is that the effect of this drug on the body sometimes occurs more quickly than that of Omez.
Omeprazole
The therapeutic effect is similar. The difference between the analogue and the original is only in additional components. The manufacturer is also different. The analogue contains the maximum content of the active ingredient.
There is much less of it in Omez, but thanks to its additional substances, the likelihood of side effects is minimized.
Omeprazole has a more affordable and lower price.
De Nol
This is an antiulcer medicine. Acts in the same way as Omez. The difference is the presence of bismuth subcitrate.
Omeprazole and alcohol
Chemical components can react with alcohol, and unpredictably. Various factors can greatly change the body's response to alcohol during drug treatment. The most common symptoms that may occur are:
- nausea;
- repeated severe vomiting;
- allergy to Omez;
- fatigue;
- stress, depression;
- headache.
The presence of such signs indicates liver sensitivity. This means that the combination of Omez with alcohol can lead to hepatitis. In addition, even the instructions for use indicate that the drug should not be taken by people suffering from liver disease. And people with gastritis are contraindicated to drink alcohol, because alcohol makes the stomach environment more acidic, and this is harmful to humans. Omez reduces stomach acidity, and ethyl alcohol increases it. As a result, the effect of the drug wears off.
Of course, with moderate alcohol consumption (just a little) nothing bad will happen. And if you drink a large amount of alcohol, a person will get drunk much faster. Abuse of medicine and alcohol can easily lead to poisoning .
Thus, if there is a feast ahead that cannot be avoided, it is better not to take the drug on that day, since taking it will be useless. And it’s better to remove drunken get-togethers with friends from your life altogether, and not just for the duration of treatment. After all, alcohol causes the very diseases that Omez treats.
What is better to take - Omez or Omeprazole?
What is most suitable for the patient for treatment depends on the indications. For stomach ulcers and gastritis, you can take any of the medications presented. They both inhibit the secretion of hydrochloric acid. But Omeprazole will be more effective, since it fights the cause of gastric diseases - Helicobacter pylori.
Omeprazole has a large list of indications, so it is more often used in therapeutic practice.
The price of medicines also differs. Patients are trying to buy medicines cheaper. But just because it’s inexpensive doesn’t mean it’s ineffective.
How to take the drug correctly
There is a standard dose for an adult patient - 20 milligrams of omeprazole per day. Omez tablets and capsules have exactly this dosage, which makes life much easier for the patient. It is best to take the product in the morning on an empty stomach. This will provide a healing effect for the whole day, until the next dose, and will also help digest and absorb food.
But the treatment regimen varies depending on the diagnosis and condition of the patient. For example, with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the daily dose of omeprazole is tripled - up to 60 milligrams. Sometimes doctors consider it necessary to prescribe even 120 milligrams per day. And for gastritis caused by bacteria, the volume of medicine can be twice as large as the standard one.
You should always remember: only the doctor prescribes the dosage of the medicine and the duration of treatment! And only after a clearly established diagnosis.
Gelatin capsules "Omez D"
Capsules come in several subtypes - “Omez”, “Omez D” and “Omez DSR”. What is common to all is the prohibition of damage.
They are not allowed:
- break;
- chew;
- disclose;
- extract contents.
Regardless of the type, the capsules should be swallowed with plenty of water.
Unlike Omez, the other two also contain Domperidone. This component is designed to prevent attacks of hiccups and vomiting, and to tone the lower sphincter.
Again, the number of capsules per day depends on the diagnosis. For example, for gastroesophageal reflux and acute gastric ulcer, the doctor will prescribe the patient two capsules twice a day, for a course of four weeks to two months. To eliminate pathogenic bacteria Pylori - two pieces twice a day for a week. Taking one Omeza D capsule daily will help protect against re-occurrence of wounds in the stomach and duodenum.
Pills
Since Omez tablets contain the same amount of omeprazole as capsules, their mode of use is no different. Let us take as an example stomach and duodenal ulcers, which are so common today. With such pathologies, the remedy is usually used for a month or two, drinking one or two tablets every day. It is recommended to do this on an empty stomach, before breakfast. But, judging by the reviews of many patients, this requirement can be completely ignored: before or after meals does not matter.
When the treatment itself is successfully completed, there is no need to abandon Omez. To prevent relapse for some time, one tablet a day will not hurt.
Solution for intravenous administration
Intravenous injection is prepared from lyophilisate powder and injection solvent.
For administration via a dropper (so-called infusion):
- dissolve 40 milligrams of Omez in 10 milligrams of liquid:
- adjust the volume to 100 milligrams by adding 5 percent glucose or sodium chloride (0.9%);
- The solution is introduced gradually over 20-30 minutes.
To give an intravenous injection, proceed according to the first subparagraph. The administration of the medicine is also slow, over five minutes.
"Omez Insta" in powder form
Omez Insta powder is used in the form of a suspension. In the morning, an hour before breakfast, the contents of one sachet are diluted with two large spoons of water and taken immediately. Add water to the glass with the remaining solution and drink it all to the end.
The drug must not be mixed with any other liquids or food!
If a child is treated in this way, he must be over 12 years old.
Brief information about Omeprazole
This drug from the group of antiulcer drugs belongs to proton pump inhibitors. In other words, Omeprazole, when entering the human body, affects the cells of the gastric mucosa, which are responsible for the production of hydrochloric acid, and suppresses their work. Thus, acid secretion is significantly reduced and acidity levels drop.
In addition, Omeprazole has a neutralizing effect on gastric juice, reducing its acidity. All this creates favorable conditions for the healing of wounds and erosions, as well as for more effective antibiotics if the ulcer was caused by Helicobacter pylori bacteria.
Indications for the use of Omeprazole are the following diseases:
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers, both in the acute stage and for the prevention of relapse;
- Reflux exophagitis;
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome;
- Gastropathy caused by taking medications;
Contraindications to taking the drug are:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding period;
- Childhood;
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
- The drug should be taken with caution in patients suffering from renal or liver failure.
