pharmachologic effect
Klion-D 100 is a broad-spectrum drug. The main active ingredient is metronidazole, which is a derivative of nitro-5-imidazole. The mechanism of action of this substance is to restore the 5-nitro group in anaerobic microorganisms and protozoa. This leads to the death of microorganisms due to the interaction of the reduced 5-nitro group of metronidazole with the DNA of the microorganism cell.
Klion-D 100 is active against a large number of microorganisms, such as Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, and it is also active against anaerobic bacteria - Bacteroides spp. Veillonella spp., Fusobacterium spp., Prevotella spp.
The use of this drug is also effective for the treatment of diseases caused by certain gram-positive microorganisms, such as Clostridium spp., Eubacterium spp., Peptococcus spp., Peptostreptococcus spp. Facultative anaerobes and aerobic microorganisms are insensitive to Klion-d 100, but its use is recommended for the treatment of mixed aerobic-anaerobic infections.
Klion-D 100 is very effective against fungi, including dermatophytes and yeast fungi. Suppositories for intravaginal use effectively fight Candida albicans. Miconazole is able to suppress the biosynthesis of ergosterol in fungal cells, which leads to their death. At the same time, the normal microflora and pH of the vagina do not change during treatment with this drug.
Which is better - Metromicon neo or Klion-d
The Russian analogue of Klion-D is the drug Metromicon-Neo. Available in the form of suppositories for the treatment of urogenital infections. Contains metronidazole and miconazole, provides antifungal, antiprotozoal and antimicrobial effects.
The same composition and content of active components as in Metromicon-Neo suppositories is characteristic of Neo-Penotran. It is distinguished by its high cost and imported manufacturer.
Differences between analogues:
- country of origin (the second drug is a joint production of Germany and Russia, the first is domestic);
- cost – Metromicon-neo is cheaper;
- dosage of active substances - Metromicon-neo contains 5 times more miconazole.
Otherwise, the substitutes are similar. Perhaps they differ in the quality of raw materials and the frequency of adverse reactions. Which is better depends on the individual.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- liver failure (when prescribing Klion in high doses);
- I trimester of pregnancy and breastfeeding period;
- organic lesions of the central nervous system, including epilepsy;
- leukopenia, including a complicated medical history;
- age up to 3 years (tablets);
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug and other nitroimidazoles.
Relative (diseases/conditions in the presence of which the use of Klion requires caution):
- liver/renal failure;
- II–III trimesters of pregnancy.
Side effects
The drug is well tolerated by patients, but in some cases the following adverse reactions develop:
- Change in urine color;
- Increased vaginal discharge;
- Changes in the clinical blood picture;
- From the digestive tract - in rare cases, stool disturbances, changes in taste, dry mouth, nausea, abdominal pain, increased gas formation;
- Allergic reactions - skin rash, urticaria, in rare cases, the development of angioedema;
- From the central nervous system – dizziness and headaches;
- Local manifestations - discomfort, itching, burning, swelling, redness of the mucous membranes, sensation of a foreign body in the vagina.
Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drug
This product exhibits local activity, killing pathogenic microorganisms in the vaginal mucosa. Metronidazole contained in suppositories is able to penetrate into the blood. The highest concentration of the substance is determined between 6 and 12 hours after the usual method of use.
Metronidazole enters the mother's milk, the embryo, overcoming the placental barrier, and into the spinal cord and brain. Part of the substance that penetrates the blood is excreted mainly through the kidneys (the urine turns a specific brownish or red tint due to the presence of metabolites in it). A small amount of metronidazole and its derivatives is excreted in the feces.
Candles Klion D
Miconazole does not have the ability to be absorbed into the bloodstream. It is not detectable in urine and feces. A significant portion of miconazole is present in the vagina for quite a long time. This fact explains the destructive effect of such a medicine on Candida fungi.
Drug analogues also have the same pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
special instructions
During the period of use of the drug, you should not drink alcohol (risk of developing disulfiram-like reactions). During the period of use of the drug, it is recommended to abstain from sexual intercourse. Simultaneous treatment of sexual partners is recommended.
Metronidazole can immobilize treponemes, resulting in a false-positive TPI test (Nelson test). When using Klion-D 100, slight leukopenia may be observed, so it is advisable to monitor the blood picture (the number of leukocytes) at the beginning and at the end of therapy.
If side effects from the central nervous system occur, you should refrain from driving vehicles and working with potentially dangerous mechanisms.
