Antibiotic dosage forms
Cycloferon is available in different dosage forms:
- tablets (150 mg of active substance);
- ampoules with solution (250 mg for every 2 ml of solution);
- Liniment – liquid ointment (5% concentration).
There are a number of features relating to each medicinal type of pharmaceutical product:
- Cycloferon, used for injection, can be administered intramuscularly or intravenously. The injections are distinguished by the speed of their therapeutic effect, because the medicine does not penetrate the gastrointestinal tract, but immediately appears in the bloodstream;
- parenteral use of the drug makes it possible to achieve greater effectiveness during the treatment of diseases such as meningococcal infection, cytomegalovirus, herpes, and other viral and infectious diseases that occur with particular severity;
- inhalation therapy using the drug is indicated for the treatment of diseases affecting the organs of the respiratory system (bronchi, lungs). Direct penetration of the active substance onto the surface of the respiratory organs allows one to obtain high antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects. Inhalation measures are indicated for complex acute respiratory viral infections, or complications that arise after the flu (bronchitis, pneumonia, catarrhal rhinitis);
- It is preferable to carry out inhalations using a nebulizer; it has the ability to spray the drug with the finest dispersion, due to which the active substance is able to penetrate into those alveoli of the lung tissue that are of minimal size;
- There is no special form of Cycloferon that could be used for inhalation; for this procedure, you can use a solution packaged in ampoules, which is usually used for injection.
Conditions for dispensing in pharmacies and storage
When using it, a doctor’s opinion and a correct diagnosis are necessary, so they made a prescription.
It must be stored in a dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees. Also be sure to hide it from children.
Always check the expiration date on the ampoule before injection. Shelf life – 5 years from the date of production. After the expiration date, you must dispose of the medicine. When frozen, the drug does not change its therapeutic properties. If the color of the solution in the ampoules has changed or a precipitate has appeared, then it cannot be used and must be disposed of.
Instructions for use
The use of Cycloferon in injections requires strict adherence to the instructions. The dosage and frequency of use are determined by the specific disease. But in most cases, the drug is administered to patients according to a certain scheme:
- On the first and second days of therapy.
- Afterwards it is administered only on the fourth day, 6 and 8 days.
- Then on day 11, 14 and 17, 20 and 23, 26 and 29 days.
Ampoules are opened only before using the medicine. The solution is administered intramuscularly or intravenously. To improve immunity, treatment lasts about 10-12 days. If the desired therapeutic effect is absent, then a repeated course of Cycloferon is recommended.
Cycloferon is often combined with antibacterial drugs when the activity of pathogenic microorganisms is observed in the body. The medication is widely used in pediatric practice. The dosage is determined by the weight of the baby. It varies from 5 to 10 mg per kilogram of body weight. A more specific regimen is recommended by a medical specialist.
Drug interactions and special instructions
Cycloferon is often used in complex treatment of diseases. It combines well with any medications, including those with antibacterial properties. If you combine the drug with nucleoside analogues, the immunostimulating and anti-inflammatory effects are enhanced. The medication reduces the intensity of adverse reactions after chemotherapy.
During pregnancy and lactation, injections are not used, since clinical studies have not been conducted on the effect on intrauterine development. The instructions do not indicate the interaction of Cycloferon and alcohol, however, drinking alcohol against the background of a viral infection leads to a worsening of the situation, since the functioning of the immune system deteriorates.
No data on overdose have been recorded. Side effects develop extremely rarely, only in individuals who are sensitive to the active component or prone to allergies. Normally, the medicinal solution is a transparent, slightly yellow liquid that does not have solid inclusions, impurities, or sediment. If there is sediment at the bottom of the ampoule or the color of the liquid is different, then use is not allowed.
Opinion of patients who tried the drug
Most people who have been treated with Cycloferon speak positively about this drug. However, there are angry reviews online because the therapy was ineffective or the effect was weak.
The medication may not provide the desired result if the patient took a course with violations and did not complete it. Once you feel better, you should not stop therapy, as symptoms will return over time.
The correct dosage of the drug is also of considerable importance. Changing the dose size on your own, as well as violating the drug administration schedule, is prohibited.
Cycloferon practically does not cause the side effects that many other interferons lead to, but you should realize that each organism is unique, and the reaction to substances ingested is also different, sometimes it is unpredictable.
Some reviews report a significant increase in body temperature, rashes and other allergic manifestations. If you notice side effects of the medication, immediately inform the doctor who prescribed the treatment and is monitoring your condition. If necessary, the doctor will select another drug or change the daily dosage of Cycloferon.
Pharmacological effect
Cycloferon has 2 pronounced effects: antiviral and immunomodulatory, as well as anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative (suppresses excessive cell growth) and antitumor effects. In the body, meglumine acridone acetate potentiates the synthesis and accumulation of significant titers of interferons α and β in organs and tissues. At the same time, the highest content of interferons is observed in structures rich in lymphoid tissue: spleen, lungs, intestinal mucosa, liver.
Cycloferon activates bone marrow stem cells and ensures the formation of granulocytes. Normalizes the ratio of T-suppressors, which suppress the formation of antigens, and T-helpers, which enhance the adaptive immune response. Activates killer cells and T-lymphocytes. This effect is especially important for immunodeficiencies of various natures, since it leads to correction of the immune status. Penetrates into brain tissue.
Thus, cycloferon:
- leads to a pronounced improvement in common viral diseases such as influenza, herpes, enterovirus infection, and in less common pathologies: tick-borne encephalitis, hepatitis, cytomegalovirus and papillomatous infections;
- normalizes the immune status of HIV-infected people;
- has antimicrobial and antichlamydial effects;
- prevents the start of tumor processes due to antimetastatic and anticarcinogenic effects;
- suppresses autoimmune reactions, thereby reducing the severity of pain and inflammation in rheumatic diseases and systemic pathologies of connective tissue;
- causes an improvement in the balance of immunity; when applied topically, it is characterized by an antiproliferative effect and rapid elimination of inflammation.

How to give injections
2 ml of solution for 1 minute.
The dosage and course of treatment using Cycloferon for various diseases have certain differences: when treating an adult patient with this drug, the basic system involves administering the drug once a day on the 1st, 2nd, 4th 1st, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 18th, 23rd day.
- Herpes. When treating this disease, 10 injections of 2 ml each are administered, according to the basic scheme. A higher effectiveness of therapy is observed in cases where treatment is started immediately when the first signs of herpes occur.
- Viral hepatitis. Similar to the treatment of herpes, here the treatment regimen also involves 10 injections of the drug, which are done according to the basic regimen. However, in the case of this disease, the dosage of the solution can be increased to 4 ml. After completing the course of treatment, take a break for 14 days, and then repeat the therapy.
- Chlamydial infection. As in the treatment of viral hepatitis, therapy here is carried out in the same way. The only difference is that when chlamydia occurs, in addition to this, other medications are used, which are given to the patient, starting with the 2nd injection of the administered drug. From the 11th day of treatment with Cycloferon, the antibiotic must be changed to another.
- Rheumatic joint diseases. For the treatment of these ailments, 2-4 courses are carried out. The interval between each is 14 days. The course of therapy itself includes five injections of the drug. 2 ml of solution is administered per day.
- Immunodeficiency state. 10 injections of 2 ml each are given, after which a course of maintenance therapy is prescribed. It involves administering 1 ampoule every 10 days in an amount of 2 ml of solution for 6 months.

- In some cases, if due to the patient’s condition there is a need for this or depending on the severe course of the disease, the doctor may deviate from the standard treatment regimen with Cycloferon.
Experts consider immunostimulants in ampoules to be more effective drugs compared to drugs produced in tablets. However, only the attending physician can decide which form of the remedy is appropriate. He also determines whether the treatment will follow the basic scheme or whether certain adjustments will be made to the course of therapy.
Tablets instructions
Studies have proven that the drug in tablet form in the early stages of the disease restores the complete immune system in patients with HIV infection and contributes to a significant improvement in condition.
Cycloferon for herpes is used according to a short regimen, in which the drug is taken 2 tablets 1 time per day for a week.
Cycloferon is used as monotherapy to prevent the secondary formation of herpes; in other cases, it is best combined with antiviral medications: Geprevir, Zovirask, Acyclovir.
Cycloferon tablets instructions for the treatment of ARVI and for the prevention of influenza infection at the first appearance of symptoms are only 10 tablets. For the first day, take 4 tablets at once. Then, on the 2nd, 4th and 6th days, the dosage is reduced by 2 times.
In 85% of patients suffering from tick-borne borreliosis, the clinical picture improved significantly after taking 2 tablets of 300 mg of the drug once during the first 2 days, after which another regimen was used - 10 doses every other day. Then Cycloferon was prescribed for prophylaxis (maintenance course) - once every 5 days, 2 tablets for several months.
If the treatment regimen is selected taking into account the characteristics of the disease and the physical condition of the person, then Cycloferon in tablets is practically not inferior to injections, and is much more convenient to use.

Medicinal properties
Cycloferon activates the synthesis of interferon in human tissues and internal organs.
Thanks to this biological activity, the drug exhibits the following properties:
- eliminates viral lesions;
- prevents inflammatory foci;
- corrects immune status;
- eliminates foci of chronic infections.
The medicine is prescribed for infection by tick-borne viruses, as well as in the combined treatment of herpes, hepatitis, cytomegalovirus, and immunodeficiency conditions.
With the parallel use of antibiotics for colds, Cycloferon enhances their effectiveness. The maximum productivity of combination treatment was noted when eliminating combined infections of intestinal localization.
Drinking Cycloferon during a cold is necessary in order to activate cells of the immune system and increase their concentrations in the tissues of internal organs, so that infections of any location in the body are eliminated faster.
The use of Cycloferon in the dosages recommended for colds does not lead to its accumulation in the body. Peak concentrations are observed in plasma within two to three hours after administration, then gradually decrease over the next eight hours
. After a day, the drug is found in the blood only in trace concentrations. The half-life from the body is 4-5 hours.
People's opinions about the drug
The antiviral drug "Cycloferon" has mostly positive responses. Many people claim that this drug helped them get rid of herpes, rashes on the face, helped them out in the midst of a flu epidemic, cured bronchitis, various infections of the genital organs, etc. Patients note that after therapy with this remedy their immunity significantly increased, their general well-being, relapses stopped, and chronic diseases began to appear less frequently. Other patients speak negatively about this drug and therefore purchase some analogue of Cycloferon. Some complain of side effects from it: headache, insomnia, allergies, ineffectiveness of the medication. However, such undesirable manifestations arise because patients simply do not know how to take the medication correctly. After all, those people who leave negative responses often went to the pharmacy on their own and purchased the medicine, took it in the wrong way or used the wrong form of release. Therefore, in order for the effect of the drug “Cycloferon” to really occur, you should not self-medicate, but should contact a specialist who, after a detailed diagnosis, will prescribe (or perhaps not) this medicine. Moreover, the doctor will prescribe tablets, ointments or injections at his own discretion, because everything depends on the specific disease, so the treatment regimen for any ailment will be different.
Features of injections and their effectiveness
According to the instructions for use for Cycloferon injections, the injections activate the activity of the stem, immune and lymphocytic cellular structures. Immunostimulating injections of this drug are considered especially effective against hepatitis, herpes, respiratory infections and influenza viruses.
This medication can be characterized by low toxicity; it dissolves quickly enough in the body tissue and is excreted naturally (through the kidneys) without any consequences. The medicine is especially valuable in the treatment of neuroinfectious diseases such as meningitis, encephalitis and other diseases of the nervous system, because its ingredients can easily penetrate the blood-brain barriers.
The drug in question cannot accumulate in organic tissue and does not have carcinogenic properties; moreover, it does not cause mutations or allergic reactions. According to the results of the studies, the injection format of this medicine is able to maintain high interferon properties for three days or more. Cycloferon injections can be combined with medications of other effects such as vitamins, antibiotics, immune-strengthening agents, and others.
What they say about analogues
A couple of reviews from those who chose Cycloferon analogues:
When my son, at 2 and a half years old, had a bad cold, the pediatrician prescribed Anaferon. She said that you need to use it from the very first days of your illness. And even better - for prevention. The baby recovered within a week. I think that the drug played a role, because it stimulates the immune system. Now I use it for prevention, because we started going to the garden.
Lilia, 33. Orenburg
I took Amiksin when I got the flu. Unfortunately, I am not in the habit of taking preventive medications. The doctor said that during seasonal epidemics, you can simply drink the drug for preventive purposes. It strengthens the immune system well. You may not get sick at all. And if you suddenly get sick, everything will go away quickly and easily. I recommend this wonderful product to everyone.

The drug Cycloferon
The original Cycloferon is a medication with immunomodulatory and antiviral effects. It is used in the treatment of many pathological diseases. The main properties of Cycloferon are the production of interferon, a substance that successfully attacks harmful bacteria and viruses. Cheap analogues of Cycloferon have similar properties due to their similar composition.
Manufacturers offer customers several dosage forms of the drug to choose from:
- pills;
- injection;
- syrup and candles (currently not on sale);
- ointments.
The treatment regimen is drawn up by the attending physician. When drawing up a therapeutic course, the probable causes of the disease and the presence of other ailments, the patient’s test results, the degree of damage to the body by harmful bacteria and the general condition of the patient are taken into account. You can replace the drug Cycloferon with an analogue only after the doctor’s approval.
The main advantage of the drug is its availability in any form. For example, patients who are not recommended to take medications in tablet form can buy Cycloferon ointment and rub it into the affected area (for herpes, vaginitis, etc.). Also, the ointment can be replaced by injection of the drug into the body. Liquid for injection contains 120 mg of active ingredient. The number of injections and dosage should be prescribed by the attending physician. The course of treatment with Cycloferon can range from 14 days to 3-4 months, depending on the characteristics of the disease.
If periodontitis is detected, Cycloferon is applied to the gums without further rubbing. As for the tablet form of the medication, this type of Cycloferon is the easiest to take. One tablet per day is enough, half an hour before meals.
It is important to start treatment with Cycloferon when the first symptoms make themselves felt. If other members of the patient’s family begin to “catch” viral diseases, healthy cohabitants are strongly recommended to take Cycloferon with them - for preventive purposes
You can also use Cycloferon for inhalations – for both adults and children over 4 years old. Inhalations are excellent in the fight against ARVI, cough and runny nose. Cycloferon for inhalation is sold in the form of a special solution: the ampoules must be emptied and the contents mixed with saline (4 ml per 1-2 ampoules).
The duration of the procedure should not exceed 7 minutes. One session of healing inhalation per day is enough. The course of treatment, as a rule, is no more than 10 days.
Compound
Cycloferon tablets contain acridone acetic acid as an active ingredient. They also contain inactive components: calcium stearate, methylcellulose.
acridone acetic acid as an active ingredient ; the solution also contains auxiliary substances: a stabilizing and salt-forming additive, water for injection.
Liniment Cycloferon contains as an active component acridone acetic acid in the form of N-methylglucamine salt , as well as auxiliary ingredients 1,2-propylene glycol up to 100%, 0.1% catapol.
"Glatimer" as an analogue of "Cycloferon"
As mentioned above, there are no substitutes for the structural formula of Cycloferon. But the modern immunomodulating drug Glatimer is similar in action, although it has a much shorter list of indications for use.
Glatimer acetate belongs to the class of immunomodulators. But its scope of application is somewhat different than that of Cycloferon: it is more often prescribed to older people, and it has proven itself excellent in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The very complex pharmacological action of Glatimer determines its relatively low effectiveness in the prevention and treatment of pathological conditions of a viral nature.

Adverse reactions
If you take Cycloferon correctly for colds, following therapeutic dosages, no undesirable effects are observed. In the presence of individual hypersensitivity, patients exhibit allergy symptoms
. These include skin rash, itching and peripheral edema.
Angioedema, urticaria and fever may develop. If such manifestations are detected, you should stop taking Cycloferon for a cold and consult your doctor to change treatment tactics.

I have an opinion
If you analyze the reviews on the Internet, most of them are positive. There is information that the drug has helped people cope with various types of infections, herpes, and rashes. First of all, reviews indicate that the product is effective against colds, ARVI, and flu. The huge advantage of Cycloferon is that it is also effective for the prevention of these diseases. Doctors recommend using it in the midst of seasonal epidemics.
Patients emphasize that they noticed a clear increase in immunity after using the drug.
This may indicate that immunity has increased. It is especially recommended to use the drug for treating children. This remedy also helps to cope with chronic diseases and alleviates their form.
There are separate references to the side effects of Thymogen. It is mentioned that after using it, sometimes headaches and insomnia bothered me. Some patients developed allergies, but such complaints are extremely rare. Also, some believe that the medicine was ineffective. Many of these shortcomings may be due to the fact that the drug was taken incorrectly
It is important not to mix it with food or other medications. The recommended dosage must be followed exactly
The drug treatment regimen must be prescribed by a doctor. Only in this case will you get maximum effect and minimum side effects. It is the doctor who must select the form of the drug that will be most effective in a particular case.
Those who did not like Cycloferon prefer to use its analogues.
Children's "Anaferon": placebo or medicine?
This drug at one time caused heated debate among pharmacists and doctors. Many still consider it a placebo. However, laboratory studies have proven that this is not the case. "Anaferon" has proven its antiviral effectiveness and is quite capable of being considered a full-fledged analogue of "Cycloferon" in terms of its properties. The instructions for use of the drug recommend that children under 18 years of age use a special children's "Anaferon" to avoid overdose.
"Anaferon" is created on the basis of ultra-low doses of antibodies to interferon gamma. Because of this, there is a false belief among people that the drug is homeopathic and is not able to speed up the patient’s recovery from diseases of a viral nature. However, laboratory studies have proven the presence of specific pharmacological activity against many groups of viruses, which made it possible to include Anaferon in the list of immunopharmacological drugs. For medical reasons, this analogue of Cycloferon has proven itself to be an effective remedy for acute respiratory viral infections, influenza and their accompanying symptoms. Parents especially loved using it as a preventative against childhood colds.
Effective against colds
It is recommended that adults take Cycloferon for colds from the moment the first signs are detected . Taking medicine for a cold activates the body's own defense mechanisms and prevents the development of infection
. When Cycloferon is used at the onset of a cold, the recovery period is significantly reduced and, according to patients, is two to three days.
If within three to four days of starting to take the drug the condition does not improve or new symptoms of the disease are discovered, you should stop taking it and consult a doctor. He will adjust the treatment regimen or prescribe other medications.
Dosage regimen for adults
The dosage of Cycloferon for colds for patients over twelve years of age is 2-4 tablets per dose. You should take the tablets half an hour before meals on the days indicated in the table below.
Days of treatment | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
Number of tablets | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
The table shows the course of minimum therapeutic dosages for colds, which can be doubled by the attending physician according to indications. The course includes from ten to twenty tablets.
If the condition of acute respiratory viral infection or influenza is severe, it is permissible to use the first shock dosage - 6 tablets, and then according to the given scheme. Additionally, if you have a cold, you can take symptomatic medications for fever, cough, and pain.
Dosage regimen for children
In pediatrics, from the age of four it is allowed to take Cycloferon; the dosage regimen for acute respiratory infections is as follows:
- up to six years – one tablet once a day;
- from six to eleven years – two tablets once a day;
- from twelve years old – three tablets once a day.
The duration of treatment for acute respiratory infections in a child is determined by a pediatrician or infectious disease specialist. The standard course of therapy is from five to nine days.
