Almagel: types of drug and their distinctive features

When coming to the pharmacy to buy Almagel, patients will definitely be faced with the pharmacist’s question: which one is needed? The medical staff will briefly list the main differences between the drugs, but an uninformed person may be stunned by surprise.

So that the pharmacist’s question does not take you by surprise, we will tell you what types of Almagel exist, how they differ, what their price is and in what case each remedy will be most useful.

All forms of Almagel are effective for stomach problems

pharmachologic effect

Almagel is an antacid drug.
Its action is based on local long-term neutralization of constantly formed gastric juice. According to the instructions, Almagel reduces the content of hydrochloric acid in gastric juice to the optimal level. The product has a local anesthetic effect. The effectiveness of this drug is also due to its specific gel-based consistency, which allows Almagel to be evenly distributed throughout the gastric mucosa, thereby providing a longer-lasting effect. The effect of taking the drug begins 3-5 minutes after a single dose, and its duration is approximately 70 minutes.

Therapeutic effect

A medicine from the group of antacids, it has an adsorbing, wound-healing and enveloping effect. The active ingredients of Almagel neutralize the increased activity of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Aluminum and magnesium hydroxide, in contact with an acidic environment, form neutral chlorides, minimizing the symptoms of the disease and preventing further development and complications. Thus, when taking the drug, damage to the walls of the digestive organ by hydrochloric acid contained in gastric juice is reduced against the background of gastritis with high acidity.

The enveloping ability of medicinal components creates an additional barrier against damage to the walls of the stomach, and thanks to this, the chloride, which appears as a result of the reaction of magnesium hydroxide with hydrochloric acid, has a laxative effect and prevents constipation.

Almagel A includes, in addition to the main composition, benzocaine (anesthesin), a local anesthetic. Thanks to this component, a quick and long-term analgesic effect is achieved. As a rule, a drug labeled A is prescribed for forms of gastritis accompanied by severe pain.

Almagel Neo includes the substance simethicone, which can prevent the appearance of gases. Under the influence of this component, the resulting gases are split.

Use during pregnancy

Doctors sometimes allow taking Almagel during pregnancy during heartburn attacks. With some conditions: not in the first trimester and lasting no more than three days. For an adult, the amount of aluminum that enters the body is extremely small, and severe side effects associated with this are rare. For the fetus, penetrating the placental barrier, the dosage may be critical.

It is known that aluminum, a neurotoxic metal, accumulates in the bones, liver, and brain, causing a number of complex pathologies. The reactions of the nervous system to intoxication are varied: the development of Alzheimer's disease, parkinsonian dementia. Promotes bone fragility, the occurrence of osteoporosis and rickets.

Characteristics of the drug

Almagel A is produced in the form of a white suspension with a light lemon aroma and pleasant taste. The drug is packaged in 170 ml dark glass bottles. Each package of the drug is equipped with a detailed annotation and a measuring spoon for convenient dosing. Almagel A differs from other types of drugs included in the therapeutic line by its yellow box.

Main active ingredients of the suspension:

  • aluminum hydroxide;
  • magnesium hydroxide;
  • sorbitol.

Having penetrated the stomach, they neutralize hydrochloric acid, relieving a person of painful heartburn and belching. During the chemical reaction, products are formed that are eliminated from the body with each urination and bowel movement. The use of Almagel A allows you to avoid the development of constipation, due to the presence of magnesium hydroxide and sorbitol in the composition of the drug.

Recommendation: “Unlike other antacids, under the influence of Almagel A there is no formation of carbon dioxide in the stomach. Therefore, the drug is indicated for use in patients who often experience negative symptoms of flatulence.”

The drug contains benzocaine, which has anesthetic properties. Many patients of gastroenterologists experience a spasm of the smooth muscle muscles of the gastrointestinal tract after eating. In addition to indigestion, a person experiences epigastric pain, which can spread to the abdominal area and radiate to the sides. Even a single dose of Almagel A quickly reduces the severity of pain.

The drug begins to work immediately after entering the stomach, and its therapeutic effect lasts 1-3 hours. The less food is in the gastrointestinal tract, the higher the therapeutic activity of Almagel A.

Cases in which Almagel A is prescribed

Experts prescribe the drug Almagel A for the treatment of the following conditions:

  • increased acidity of gastric juice. Special cells of the mucous membrane - parietal or parietal - are responsible for the production of hydrochloric acid. They absorb all the necessary components from the blood. The parietal cells are controlled by the nerve endings of the stomach and local chemical regulators - hormones. Most gastric diseases, including ulcers and gastritis, which occur with pain, are associated with increased acidity;
  • reflux esophagitis. This disease is also directly related to increased acidity of gastric juice. Only the target for the action of acid is not the stomach, but the esophagus. Its wall is not intended for contact with digestive juices at all. Under the influence of acid, ulcers and erosions (esophagitis) quickly appear on the esophageal mucosa;
  • duodenitis. And in this case, hydrochloric acid plays the leading role. High acidity is required only at the stage of digestion of food in the stomach. Further, an alkaline environment predominates throughout the intestine. The main protective mechanism is the pyloric valve between the stomach and duodenum. However, for a number of reasons, it may function intermittently, and large portions of hydrochloric acid irritate the intestinal mucosa;
  • stomach diseases associated with taking medications and alcohol. Some of the most popular and frequently used medications—antipyretics and painkillers—can negatively affect the gastric mucosa. They are usually collectively referred to as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs disrupt the process of protecting the mucous membrane from the action of hydrochloric acid. As a result, an acute ulcer or specific medicinal gastritis is formed.

Interaction with other drugs

Almagel can adsorb a number of medications, as a result of which their absorption decreases, so the difference between taking the suspension and other drugs should be 1-2 hours.

Almagel shifts the pH of the stomach to the alkaline side, as a result of which the effect of a number of medications may change when taken simultaneously.

While taking the medication, the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin, cardiac glycosides, tetracyclines, iron and lithium preparations, H2-antihistamines, quinidine, mexiletine, phenothiazine derivatives, isoniazid and ketoconazole may decrease.

When taking Almagel in parallel with medications coated with an enteric coating, due to a shift in the pH of the environment, it can be destroyed in the stomach and duodenum, resulting in irritation of the mucous membrane of these organs.

During therapy, some test results may be distorted:

  • reduce the production of gastric juice when determining its acidity;
  • increase the level of phosphorus in the blood;
  • change the pH values of urine and blood serum;
  • change test results using technetium-99.

Adverse reactions

Almagel's instructions indicate that the drug can promote the development of:

  • constipation, which is eliminated by reducing the dose of the medicine;
  • hypermagnesemia;
  • nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps;
  • taste disturbances;
  • allergic reactions;
  • osteomalacia (due to long-term use);
  • Long-term use of the medication may affect the mood and mental performance of patients with a history of kidney problems.

Almagel Neo can additionally provoke the development of thirst and a decrease in blood pressure in patients with a history of renal failure.

Indications for the use of Almagel for ulcers

Depending on the severity of the manifestation and the prevalence of symptoms, the following forms of Almagel are prescribed:

  • In suspension. It is recommended for general symptoms not associated with severe pain or increased flatulence.
  • Almagel A is prescribed for exacerbation of gastric or duodenal ulcer with significant pain. This drug is also taken for acute gastritis, duodenitis, and colitis.
  • Almagel Neo is prescribed for increased flatulence. In addition to its main functions, it successfully relieves bloating in the intestines, accompanied by colic, reduces gas formation and normalizes the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • In tablets, it is often prescribed as an alternative for patients who have intolerance to individual components of the suspension.

Side effects of Almagel

While taking the medicine, in rare cases, nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting, constipation, pain in the stomach, as well as changes in taste sensations may occur. As a rule, the above symptoms disappear after reducing the dose.

It is important to keep in mind that taking high doses of the drug may cause drowsiness. Since long-term use of Almagel in high dosages in combination with consumption of food poor in phosphorus can provoke phosphorus deficiency, increased excretion and resorption of calcium in the urine, it is necessary to ensure adequate phosphorus intake from food during treatment with the drug

In addition, patients with chronic renal failure may experience swelling of the extremities, hypermagnesemia and dementia. Rating: 5 — 1 vote

The effect of the drug is based on the long-term neutralization of continuously secreted gastric juice, reducing the concentration of hydrochloric acid in it to optimal values.

Due to these properties, the medicine is used in the treatment of many gastrointestinal diseases.

Reception scheme

Instructions for use of Almagel assume its internal use. According to the doctor's recommendation, you need to consume 1-3 teaspoons 3 times a day. If there is an ulcer, the drug is taken between meals. If a therapeutic effect is achieved, reduce the dosage of Almagel to 1 teaspoon 3 times a day. The general course will be 2-3 months.

For preventive purposes, the drug should be consumed 1-2 tablespoons. Almagel is given to children strictly on the recommendation of a doctor. If the child is under 10 years old, then 1/3 of the adult dose, and from 10 to 15 years old - ½ adult dose.

If there is a disease accompanied by nausea, vomiting, pain in the abdominal area, then the course of therapy should begin with Almagel A. If the symptoms have been relieved, then switch to regular Almagel.

In addition to taking Almagel and other effective drugs, success in the treatment of gastritis is impossible without following a diet. To learn more about healthy foods and the basic rules of a diet for gastritis, you need to watch the following video:

Composition and action

The composition of the drug includes the active substance and auxiliary components. It is the active components that determine the therapeutic effect of all forms of Almagel.

Almagel

Qualitative composition of the suspension: aluminum hydroxide gel (algeldrate) and magnesium hydroxide paste. Both components have an absorbent effect. They absorb substances that negatively affect the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines. Another therapeutic effect of these components is an enveloping effect. A powerful protective barrier is created on the surface of the stomach walls, facilitating uniform distribution of the medicine. This protective layer ensures long-lasting action of the active components.

Aluminum and magnesium hydroxide have a neutralizing effect on hydrochloric acid in the lumen of the stomach, resulting in the formation of aluminum and magnesium chloride. Subsequently, passing through the intestines, they are modified into alkaline salts. The proteolytic activity of pepsin decreases, and the environment becomes less aggressive. This is how the antacid effect of the medication manifests itself. The ability to digest hydrochloric acid decreases and, accordingly, its adverse effect on the walls of the gastric tract decreases. Accelerated healing of erosive and ulcerative lesions occurs due to the elimination of negative factors. Another advantage is the absence of such a phenomenon as “acid rebound”.

All aluminum compounds, including algeldrate, are characterized by a fixing effect. Magnesium hydroxide, on the contrary, manifests itself as an osmotic laxative, increasing the amount of water in the stool, accelerating its passage through the intestines. Sorbitol helps increase the secretion of bile, which has a laxative effect. Thus, these 2 substances complement each other, eliminating unpleasant consequences and causing normal stool.

Almagel A

The only difference between Almagel A and the base suspension is that benzocaine is added to the main components. This is a local anesthetic.

Thanks to this substance, the patient has a pronounced and rapid analgesic effect. Benzocaine, entering the gastrointestinal tract, blocks the conduction of nerve impulses, so pain and discomfort disappear.

It should be remembered that the duration of use of this type of medication is limited due to the side effects inherent in painkillers.

Almagel Neo

This type differs from the usual one in that it contains the additional component simethicone. This element belongs to the group of carminatives, and according to its chemical structure it is an organosilicon compound.

Simethicone reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive system, stimulating their rapid destruction and making further formation more difficult. Next, the released gases are absorbed into the intestinal wall and removed by peristalsis. This type of suspension acts gently and delicately, relieving dyspeptic disorders.

general information

Tablets and syrups belong to the group of antacid drugs. The basis of all types of liquid form is a suspension of aluminum and magnesium hydroxides. The tablet preparation contains magaldrate.

Any type of action is aimed at the symptoms of dyspepsia:

  • sour belching;
  • heartburn;
  • epigastric pain;
  • excessive gas formation;
  • bloating.

Additionally, medications affect the condition of the mucous membrane of the esophagus and stomach:

  • cover the walls with a protective film;
  • reduce the enzymatic activity of gastric juice;
  • neutralize excess acid in the stomach;
  • reduce the inflammatory response;
  • accelerate the healing of erosive and ulcerative lesions;
  • minimize the risk of developing gastropathy after taking aggressive medications, for example, analgesics, as well as hormones and food.

All forms are used to treat pathologies of the digestive system, accompanied by normal or increased acidity of gastric juice:

  • acute and chronic gastritis;
  • reflux disease;
  • pancreatitis;
  • erosions and ulcers;
  • dyspeptic symptoms caused by violation of healthy eating rules or taking medications;
  • hiatal hernia;
  • intestinal inflammation (colitis, enterocolitis);
  • gastroduodenitis.

The suspension protects the gastric mucosa from the aggressive internal environment - hydrochloric acid and enzymes

It is also possible to use syrup and tablets for prophylactic purposes together with medications that irritate the mucous membranes.

General contraindications for all varieties are:

  • hypophosphatemia;
  • individual hypersensitivity to components;
  • kidney diseases accompanied by severe impairment of their functions;
  • hypermagnesemia.

Depending on changes in composition, drugs have additional restrictions on use.

We advise you to read the information on how to take Almagel correctly.

Contraindications and unwanted side reactions

Like most medications, Almagel A is not prescribed under certain circumstances:

  • in case of individual intolerance to any of the chemical components of the drug. More often than others, allergic reactions to the anesthetic substance benzocaine are observed;
  • for severe renal dysfunction. Poor blood purification from waste and toxins can lead to the appearance in the body of a high content of chemical components of the drug;
  • in Alzheimer's disease. Aluminum, which is part of the algedrate, can enhance the neurological disorders characteristic of this disease, including severe rigidity of the muscles of the trunk, arms and legs;
  • in childhood up to 1 month;
  • during pregnancy, the medicine is prescribed only in a short course (no longer than 3 days). Doctors try not to prescribe Almagel A to nursing mothers. Otherwise, the specialist recommends transferring the child to artificial feeding.

Alzheimer's disease - video

Side effects when taking Almagel A are usually caused by high doses of the drug:

  • digestive disorders in the form of nausea and vomiting;
  • pain in the stomach;
  • stool retention (constipation);
  • drowsiness;
  • softening of bones (osteoporosis and osteomalacia) and a high risk of fractures. This side effect is observed in people with a hereditary predisposition to a special type of phosphorus metabolism in the body.

Contraindications

It is not advisable to take Almagel if the patient has:

  • severe constipation;
  • stomach pain of unknown origin;
  • suspicion of acute appendicitis;
  • ulcerative colitis;
  • diverticulosis;
  • chronic form of indigestion;
  • acute hemorrhoids;
  • violation of acid-base balance;
  • metabolic alkalosis;
  • cirrhosis of the liver;
  • severe form of heart failure;
  • toxicosis during gestation;
  • kidney pathology, in which the glomerular filtration rate is less than 30 ml per minute, since there is a possibility of an increase in the level of magnesium in the blood and an overdose of aluminum;
  • severe form of renal failure;
  • low levels of phosphorus in the blood;
  • Alzheimer's disease;
  • fructose malabsorption (sorbitol is included in the suspension);
  • individual intolerance to the drug.

The drug is not recommended to be prescribed for ileostomy or colostomy.

Principles of taking medication

Almagel A is used to treat adults and children older than one month. The suspension is taken orally thirty minutes before meals and before bedtime. The drug in the bottle must be shaken before each dose. The doctor will calculate the dose of the medicine depending on the patient’s age. It is convenient to measure the suspension using the spoon included in the kit. The duration of taking Almagel A depends on the specific disease and the severity of its manifestations. The suspension has an effect on average five minutes after consumption. The duration of action is about seventy minutes.

Since Almagel A has a pronounced antacid effect, it can significantly change the absorption of other drugs from the stomach and intestines. If a specialist has prescribed a combination treatment for the disease, the remaining medications should be taken no earlier than 2 hours after consuming the Almagel A suspension.

It is necessary to inform the specialist about the simultaneous use of Almagel A suspension and any of the following drugs:

  • antibiotics based on tetracycline, ciprofloxacin. They are often used to treat various infections of the kidneys and respiratory organs;
  • antibiotics containing isoniazid as an active ingredient. Such drugs are prescribed to treat various forms of tuberculosis;
  • antifungal drugs based on ketoconazole;
  • phenothiazine-based drugs. The most common drug in this series is Aminazine. It is often used in psychiatric practice and for the treatment of nausea and vomiting;
  • pain reliever and anti-inflammatory drug Indomethacin. The drug is often prescribed to eliminate gout attacks;
  • antiallergic drugs used to treat urticaria, allergic and seasonal runny nose, skin rash, Quincke's edema (allergic swelling of the face and neck). This series of drugs includes Zodak, Cetirizine, Suprastin, Tavegil, Erius, Loratadine;
  • iron-based drugs. These medications are prescribed orally to treat iron deficiency anemia (anemia). The most popular are Hemofer, Maltofer;
  • drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases - Concor, Coronal, Metoprolol, Betaloka-Zoka. These medications are often prescribed after a myocardial infarction, as well as for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders;
  • digitalis preparations. The most popular drug in this series is Digoxin. The medicine is prescribed for the treatment of heart and vascular diseases.

In these cases, dosage adjustments may be required.

The author of these lines has experienced the effects of the drug Almagel A more than once. The cause was always heartburn, which tormented between meals and on an empty stomach, especially at night. The feeling of a fire somewhere deep inside the chest was not pleasant. Almagel A became a real salvation. This snow-white substance from the bottle tasted slightly sweet and astringent. Within two to three minutes after taking it, the tongue and throat became slightly numb. However, these sensations passed rather quickly. The drug literally immediately relieved painful heartburn, extinguishing a kind of “fire” inside the chest. Similar sensations of heartburn occur every spring and autumn. Therefore, the drug Almagel A is always in the home medicine cabinet. A worthy product that is worth spending money on.

Understanding the types of Almagel

The drug has been known for quite a long time to almost everyone who has encountered problems with the stomach and intestines. The packaging is green, the medicine itself is a white suspension with a sweetish taste and lemon aroma. For a long time, Almagel was practically the only prescribed antacid for gastritis, duodenitis, peptic ulcers and other gastrointestinal diseases.

The variety of forms of this medicine is dictated by the existence of various clinical situations in which it is prescribed. Each drug has its own niche where its use is most justified.

There is information on the Internet about the tablet form of Almagel and that all types of the drug are available in sachets. They are registered and approved for sale in other countries (Ukraine, Kazakhstan), since they are produced by an international holding company. They do not yet have registration in Russia.

Instructions for use for children

Almagel can be given to children only from the age of one month. Some types of the drug are indicated only from 10 years of age. Tablets can only be given to children from 12 years of age.

The maximum duration of tablet therapy is 2 weeks. The medicine can be taken on an empty stomach or before meals.

Peculiarities

  1. The release form in the form of a gel allows the drug to be evenly distributed throughout the digestive tract, this ensures reliable protection of the mucous membrane and rapid onset of the desired effect.
  2. After consumption, there is no sharp decrease in acidity levels, this allows you to avoid problems with digestion of food.
  3. When acid is neutralized, carbon dioxide is not released, as a result there is no flatulence and, after a short time, a reverse reaction (as with absorbed antacids).
  4. With long-term use of Almagel, you need to know that it can increase the excretion of phosphorus from the body, this can lead to deficiency. This fact should be taken into account when preparing meals. For example, a large amount of it is found in nuts and legumes.
  5. There may be increased excretion of calcium ions in the urine and the appearance of edema. This should be taken into account by people with chronic kidney problems.

Features of taking the drug for stomach ulcers

The medication must be prescribed by a doctor. He also selects the optimal waste rate of active ingredients. In case of a pronounced pain symptom, treatment can begin with Almagel A; when the condition normalizes, the patient switches to Almagel.

When the drug enters the stomach, it begins to act quite quickly, and within 5-10 minutes the patient feels better. Pain sensations are relieved, heartburn and nausea disappear. This effect lasts for 3-4 hours.

When taking, the absorbent and enveloping properties should be taken into account. This reduces the quality of food digestion and absorption of nutrients. Therefore, it is recommended to take the drug in any form of release either an hour before a meal, or 1.5 - 2 hours after. Taking the drug before bed is also effective. The course of treatment can range from 1 to 3 months, depending on its effectiveness.

  • Ménétrier's disease: symptoms and treatment
  • Diet for gastroduodenitis with high acidity
  • Pylorospasm in infants

Side effects

After taking all types of Almagel, the following side effects may be observed:

  • Distortion of taste sensations.
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Stomach cramps.
  • Drowsiness.

Maximum doses of the drug in combination with a lack of phosphorus intake from food causes manifestations of phosphorus deficiency, increased excretion of calcium in the urine and the development of osteomalacia.

Contraindications

Contraindications for taking the drug are as follows:

  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
  • Alzheimer's disease.
  • Severe pathologies of kidney function.
  • At the age of up to 1 month, up to 10 years Almagel Neo.

Types of drug

The manufacturer produces three types of medicine, each with special functions aimed at combating diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. As already noted, the medication contains various components by type. A separate suspension is sold in a specially colored package so that the patient does not confuse the drug options when purchasing.

It is enough for the pharmacist to find out the customer’s complaints in order to decide which of the three suspensions to recommend. As a rule, the instructions for using variations of the drug differ only in the time of administration, before or after meals.

Anesthetic drug

Almagel A is sold in yellow packaging. Has exceptional properties. This is the only medicine that performs an anesthetic function. The benzocaine included in the composition makes it possible to eliminate discomfort in the stomach and relieves heartburn. The price of the product is acceptable, which allows the majority of the population to purchase medicine.

Typically, the drug is prescribed in cases where, in addition to typical complaints of diseases of the epigastrium and digestive organs, the patient experiences pain and nausea.

The task of Almagel A is to reduce the negative effects of hydrochloric acid on the stomach, which destabilizes the functioning of gastric juice. Does not provoke a re-increase in the secretory function of gastric juice. Acts as an anesthesia, weakening the pain effect in the affected organs. The suspension neutralizes further upset of the gastric mucosa.

The drug begins to act within 5 minutes after use. Duration of exposure to the body is 80 minutes.

Aluminum hydroxide makes it impossible for pepsin to secrete secretions and reduces hydrochloric acid, generating aluminum chloride. Aluminum chloride in alkali is converted into alkaline aluminum salts. Magnesium hydroxide in turn is converted into magnesium chloride, eliminating the possibility of constipation due to the presence of aluminum hydroxide in the body. The composition of the suspension does not affect the accumulation of magnesium ions in the blood.

When taking Almagel A, the risk of flatulence and stomach inflammation is eliminated. The medication creates a protective barrier; the stomach is enveloped in active substances that have a long-lasting effect without the appearance of carbon dioxide, which causes a number of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Studies have shown that the drug has mild toxic effects and does not cause disturbances in the development of the embryo. Special cases include an increase in tendon reflexes in infants whose mothers consumed Almagel A during pregnancy. It is noted that newborns are at risk of progression of hypermagnesemia; long-term use of the drug is contraindicated for pregnant women.

Carminative drug

Almagel Neo is a version of the suspension, which is called orange because of the color of the packaging. It is successfully taken for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

In addition to the main components, it includes simethicone, which helps neutralize gases in the stomach and other digestive organs. Due to its carminative effect, Almagel Neo is actively used by people suffering from flatulence. This includes sedentary people, mainly office workers. The drug is also recommended for people who often experience stress, are addicted to cigarettes or overeating. The medicine version tastes like an orange, which increases its popularity among customers.

Almagel Neo, like other other options, fights hydrochloric acid, minimizing the peptic activity of gastric juice. The main function is considered to be the elimination of gas formation due to simethicone, which has no effect on human organs. After executing the functions, it is displayed in its previous form.

Prescribed for disorders of the gastrointestinal tract associated with the risk of flatulence. The drug will harm patients with chronic renal failure: Almagel Neo interferes with the removal of aluminum and magnesium from the blood, causing the level of substances to rise to toxic levels.

Contraindicated for patients during pregnancy and children under 10 years of age.

Release form and composition

The drug Almagel is available in the form of tablets and suspensions intended for oral use.

Almagel suspension is presented in three forms: Almagel, Almagel A and Almagel Neo. In addition to the main components - aluminum oxide and magnesium oxide - the last two drugs contain, respectively: benzocaine (an anesthetic) and simethicone (a substance that eliminates the cause of flatulence).

The classic Almagel suspension is white in color and has a lemon scent. During storage of Almagel, a layer of clear liquid is allowed to form, which disappears after vigorous shaking.

Listed below are the main active ingredients and their content in 5 ml of Almagel (1 teaspoon of medicine):

  • 2. 18 g of aluminum hydroxide gel, which corresponds to 218 mg of aluminum oxide;
  • 350 mg of magnesium hydroxide paste, which corresponds to 75 mg of magnesium oxide.

Almagel also contains additional ingredients:

  • 10.9 mg methyl parahydroxybenzoate;
  • 801.15 mg sorbitol;
  • 1.635 mg lemon oil;
  • 10.9 mg hyaetellose;
  • 1.363 mg butyl parahydroxybenzoate;
  • 98.1 mg 96% ethanol;
  • less than 5 ml of purified water;
  • 818 mcg sodium saccharinate dihydrate;
  • 1.636 mg propyl parahydroxybenzoate.

The composition of suspensions type A and Neo differs from the above.

Almagel tablets are packaged in 24 or 12 pieces.

The suspensions are located in 170 ml bottles, together with a measuring spoon they are packed in cardboard boxes. Each type of Almagel is located in a box of the corresponding color: classic - in green, Almagel Neo - in red, Almagel A - in yellow.

Contraindications and side effects

Instructions for use Almagel A warns against treating newborns who are less than one month old and patients with Alzheimer's disease with the drug. The antacid is not prescribed to people who have been diagnosed with:

  • pathologies of the urinary system;
  • serious liver dysfunction.

These diseases occur against the background of metabolic disorders, which causes the accumulation of medicinal compounds in the body. In these cases, an overdose of Almagel A and the manifestation of its side effects are possible:

  • attacks of nausea and vomiting;
  • chronic constipation or diarrhea;
  • neurological disorders.

With long-term use of the drug, the likelihood of destructive changes in bone, joint and cartilage tissue increases. There have also been cases of the development of edema in the lower part of the human body.

If you want to find out whether Almagel saves you from heartburn, then read the article. It describes the mechanism of action of this drug and its variants presented in the modern pharmacy assortment.

Mode of application

Almagel comes in the form of a suspension and tablets. Before using the suspension, be sure to shake the contents of the bottle so that it acquires a homogeneous composition.

The required dosage of the drug is determined by the gastroenterologist depending on the age of the patient and the severity of the disease itself. Adults are prescribed 5 to 10 ml. a single dose of the drug three times a day. Twice before meals 30 minutes, and drink the last part before bedtime. If after some time the patient’s condition does not improve, the dosage is increased. The maximum allowable amount per day should not exceed 80 ml. (16 scoops).

Pediatric Dosage Recommendations

The dosage of Almagel for children should be strictly determined by a doctor. Below are just recommendations.

  • Children under 10 years old: 1.7-3.5 ml.
  • Children aged 10-15 years: 2.5-5 ml.
  • Teenagers over 15 years old: 5-10 ml.

Use by adults

The Almagel suspension begins to act within 5 minutes, and the therapeutic effect lasts up to 2 hours. The liquid can be drunk only 30 minutes after taking the antacid. If, in addition to this medicine, you take other medications, it is recommended to maintain an interval of at least one hour between doses. During treatment, it is not advisable to take antibiotics, antihistamines and heart medications.

Almagel A is taken in the same way as classic Almagel in green packaging. The instructions indicate the following indications: exacerbation of gastric and duodenal ulcers, enteritis, duodenitis, exacerbation of acute and chronic gastritis, diaphragmatic hernia, acid reflux, colitis, indigestion, epigastric pain due to poor nutrition, diabetes. If you have severe, acute pain, nausea and vomiting, then a suspension with an anesthetic is better for therapy.

Almagel Neo is prescribed an hour after meals in a dosage of 5 ml. — this is the whole difference between this drug and others from the Almagel series. You can drink up to 60 ml per day. It differs from other drugs in its orange flavor. Allowed for children over 10 years old only in an amount of 5 ml. for one appointment.

Applications and dosages

for adults

The suspension is taken orally; the bottle should be shaken well before use.

When treating gastrointestinal pathologies, the drug should be taken 45-60 minutes after meals and at night.

The medication is prescribed in a single dosage of 5 or 10 ml, dosage frequency 3-4 times a day. If necessary, the dosage can be increased to 15 ml.

After the therapeutic effect is achieved, the single dosage is reduced to 5 ml, the frequency of administration remains the same, and the suspension is drunk for 15-20 days.

After taking the medication, it is not advisable to drink any drinks for a quarter of an hour.

For the purpose of prevention, Almagel is drunk 15 minutes before taking an irritant. Its single dosage can vary from 5 to 15 minutes.

for children

Children aged 10-15 years are given the drug at half the adult dosage.

For patients over 15 years of age, the drug is prescribed as usual.

for pregnant women and during lactation

The treatment regimen for pregnant and lactating patients should be selected by a doctor. The duration of therapy in these categories of patients should not exceed 5-6 days.

special instructions

The medicine is produced in the form of a suspension - a gel, which ensures its rapid and uniform distribution throughout the digestive system. The antacid begins to act gently, creating reliable protection and not leading to a sharp decrease in acidity, so problems with food digestion are excluded.

If the drug is taken for a long time, phosphorus deficiency may occur because it is able to remove it from the body. Therefore, the lack of phosphorus must be compensated for with special preparations or a balanced diet.

Almagel Neo contains alcohol

For this reason, it should be taken with caution by people who have impaired liver function, are alcohol dependent, or suffer from epilepsy. The presence of alcohol does not affect concentration or reaction speed in any way.

It is prescribed even to patients whose activities require perseverance and attentiveness.

Patients with fructose intolerance are not recommended to be treated with this medicine, as it contains sorbitol. It can cause mucosal irritation and diarrhea in this category of people.

Side effects

Side effects occur in isolated cases if the doctor’s instructions are not followed. Typically this is:

  • allergic manifestations;
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • change in taste sensations;
  • pain and spasms in the epigastrium;
  • drowsiness and thirst;
  • constipation or diarrhea.

When a patient suffers from renal failure and consumes high doses of the suspension, this can lead to negative effects that are significantly different from other consequences. These include:

  • the appearance of edema;
  • an increase in the concentration of magnesium and aluminum in the blood, and calcium in the urine;
  • pressure drop;
  • dementia and encephalopathy.

Possibility of overdose

Long-term therapy in large doses of Almagel Neo may differ from treatment with other types of the drug in the occurrence of an overdose. The main symptoms are: increased fatigue and nervousness, changeable mood, slow breathing, numbness and muscle pain, inadequate reaction to events, hyperemia (redness) of the face. To eliminate such negative signs, you need to cleanse the body of excess medication.

Measures such as gastric lavage, inducing vomiting, laxatives and sorbents are given.

Contraindications

Here are the contraindications for all forms of Almagel:

  • hypersensitivity to its components;
  • Alzheimer's disease.

This medication is considered one of the safest because it is not absorbed into the circulatory system and does not cause harm to the body during therapy. It quickly and effectively acts on an irritated stomach without stimulating metabolic disorders. All types of Almagel meet modern requirements, and their clinical effectiveness has been proven by many years of research.

Types of Almagel

Release form: liquid, tablets. The suspension has additional positive properties and is sold in three forms:

  • regular Almagel (liquid, tablets) contains only the main components (magnesium, aluminum hydroxide);
  • the product with the additional designation “A” contains benzocaine, which provides an analgesic effect;
  • Almagel Neo, in addition to the main components, contains simethicone, which eliminates excess gases.

All types of products are sold in boxes of different colors: regular - in green, "Neo" - red, "A" (with anesthetic) - yellow. For tablets, the designation Almagel T is used. The drug with the “Neo” additive is available in 10 ml sachets and contains orange flavor.

Pharmacological properties of almagel

Almagel (sometimes you can find drugs called almagel) is available in the form of syrup or tablets.

The main active ingredient aluminum and magnesium hydroxide (AMH) has three main therapeutic properties:

  • Enveloping. This is the effect of a film created on the gastric mucosa, which reduces the impact of the aggressive environment of gastric juice on the walls of the organ.
  • Neutralizes the concentration of hydrochloric acid (antacid effect).
  • Adsorbs a number of acids.

Pharmacological companies produce drugs based on three active ingredients with the addition of various excipients. Almagel A - has a stronger analgesic property, neo - in addition to AMH, contains active substances that help eliminate increased flatulence.

Indications for use

Indications for use of all types of Almagel are similar, with the exception of a few points.

The use of antacid suspensions is prescribed:

  • for the treatment of acute or chronic gastritis with normal or increased levels of hydrochloric acid;
  • in the treatment of ulcerative manifestations of the stomach and duodenum during periodic exacerbations;
  • for carrying out preventive measures;
  • in the complex treatment of esophagitis, duodenitis, enteritis, hernia;
  • to relieve food intoxication;
  • to protect the walls of the stomach from the negative effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

In addition, green Almagel is recommended for stomach disorders. This is the best option for heartburn attacks, to eliminate discomfort after poor nutrition or the influence of harmful factors.

Doctors prescribe yellow Almagel A in cases where the pain symptom is pronounced, accompanied by vomiting and nausea. When intense pain subsides and accompanying symptoms disappear, the patient is recommended to switch to the classic suspension.

Orange Almagel Neo, which is used for putrefactive or fermentative dyspepsia, effectively relieves bloating (flatulence).

Indications

Indications for use include diseases of the digestive system such as:

  • gastritis with normal or increased acidity of gastric juice,
  • ulcer of the duodenum or stomach,
  • enteritis,
  • diaphragmatic hernia,
  • esophagitis,
  • food toxic infections,
  • duodenitis,
  • various digestive disorders associated with taking medications, dietary errors, drinking alcohol or coffee, and smoking.

Action of Almagel

The medicine has an enveloping and antacid effect. All types contain basic active ingredients. Mechanism of action: they neutralize hydrochloric acid, protect the gastric mucosa. This prevents the formation of ulcers.

At the same time, substances that can negatively affect the gastrointestinal mucosa are neutralized. The composition of the medicine envelops and creates a protective barrier. It helps the active substances to be distributed evenly, resulting in a long-lasting effect.

Sodium hydroxide prevents and relieves constipation. Sorbitol increases bile secretion. Both substances contribute to the rapid normalization of stool. The protective layer saves the stomach from a feeling of heaviness and excessive production of hydrochloric acid.

The product relieves pain in the gastrointestinal tract. It is possible to use Almagel for heartburn. The effect of the medicine begins 3–5 m after administration. The duration of the effect is from 1 to 2 hours.

Almagel "A" has a longer and stronger analgesic effect. You can drink it if you are poisoned. The drug with the prefix “Neo” prevents. The bubbles are destroyed and absorbed into the intestines, and then excreted from the body. The medicine may cause side effects and has contraindications. Doctors prescribe it to pregnant women only in short courses.

Description of the medicine

The medicine has been used in the treatment of diseases of the digestive tract for a long time. Reviews are mostly positive. The product is available in the form of a suspension. Sometimes the medicine is called “green” because of the color of the box.

Doctors recommend Almagel for gastritis if the acidity of gastric juice exceeds the norm. A greater effect is achieved during the elimination of acute or chronic inflammation of the epigastrium. It is in demand as a preventative against stomach diseases. Before use, you should consult a doctor so that the doctor can recommend the type of suspension that is suitable for the patient.

Compound

In addition to the main one, two types of the drug have been developed - Almagel A and Almagel Neo. The composition of the three suspensions is similar, each with an additional component. The main composition includes a mixture of magnesium and aluminum hydroxide. The antacid effect of the drug is guaranteed - hydroxides concentrate in the gastric juice and weaken hydrochloric acid. The main substances of Almagel perform an absorbent function. The medicine coats the stomach, protecting it from irritants.

Yellow Almagel contains, in addition to the main components, benzocaine. It has an anesthetic effect on the stomach, reducing the pain effect. An additional component of Almagel Neo is simethicone. Designed to neutralize gas bubbles in the digestive organs.

pharmachologic effect

The medicine is classified in the group of antacid medications that eliminate damage from gastric juice to the gastric mucosa. The medication is considered an effective remedy for gastritis. Aluminum hydroxide significantly reduces the level of pepsin, which is responsible for digesting food. This substance interacts with hydrochloric acid, eliminating the harmful effects on the epigastrium. A similar role is played by magnesium hydroxide, which additionally blocks the possibility of constipation in a person.

5 minutes after use, the drug begins to have an effect on the body, the effect lasts a little more than an hour. If Almagel is used after meals, the medicine remains effective for 2.5 hours. The substances included in the composition are not absorbed by the blood and do not affect other organs and systems of the body.

Indications and contraindications

Like any medicine, the medicine has a list of prescriptions that specify its use for diseases and conditions. Almagel is recommended for patients with diseases:

  1. Inflammation of the stomach, often acute and chronic gastritis;
  2. Erosion on the duodenum or stomach, ulcer;
  3. Disease of the small intestine;
  4. Diaphragm hernia;
  5. Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the esophagus;
  6. Food poisoning;
  7. Duodenitis.

Contraindications include:

  • Age. Do not take to children under one month of age;
  • Alzheimer's disease;
  • Individual contraindications to the components of the drug;
  • The period of feeding the child with breast milk;
  • Kidney diseases.

Side effects

It happens that the drug has a negative effect on the body. As a rule, those taking Almagel may complain of abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, cramps and constipation. Under the influence of the drug, metabolism is disrupted. Fatigue is noted. Less commonly, dementia and bone deformities result. Other diseases associated with the drug are contained in instructions for use.

Effect on the body

"Almagel A" ("Almagel" with anesthetic) contains sorbitol. The substance, widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, initiates the active generation of bile. It has a mild laxative effect, combined with the influence of magnesium hydroxide.

Although the drug leads to an increase in the pH of the gastric contents, the process is quite long, there is no sharp jump. It is possible to stabilize the indicators to 3.5 units, that is, bring them to the physiological norm. This effect is also observed between doses of the medication. At the same time, a protective shell is generated that evenly protects the gastric mucous membranes and guarantees high-quality distribution of chemically aggressive compounds over the entire surface. The local effect is quite long-lasting and is not accompanied by the generation of carbon dioxide, which initiates flatulence. Taking the drug usually does not lead to a feeling of heaviness and does not initiate secondary activation of the release of hydrochloric acid.

The specialized Hodge and Sterner classification system allows us to classify Almagel A (Almagel with anesthetic), used orally, as a class of drugs that are characterized by mild toxicity. No toxic effects on the embryo were detected, no teratogenic effects or the ability to initiate mutation were detected.

In children born to women who took “Almagel” with an anesthetic (“Almagel A”) during pregnancy, tendon reflexes were sometimes recorded above normal. The condition was observed during the first time after birth. This was recorded only in children whose mothers used the drug for a long period of time.

If there is a need for the drug in question after birth, it is necessary to organize monitoring of the magnesium content in the child’s body - there is a possibility of exceeding normal values. This is more common in children whose bodies are dehydrated. The manufacturer in the accompanying instructions recommends refraining from using the product in question both for pregnant women and when treating infants.

Indications and contraindications

The drug is non-absorbable and does not cause metabolic disturbances. Almagel for heartburn is used during pregnancy. The medicine does not irritate the genitourinary system even with prolonged use. Indications for use:

  • intestinal disorders;
  • peptic ulcer;
  • duodenitis;
  • intestinal diseases;
  • flatulence;
  • from heartburn during pregnancy;
  • hiatal hernia;
  • enteritis;
  • from gastritis;
  • colitis;
  • stomach pain after drinking alcohol;
  • with reflux - esophagitis;
  • with exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis;
  • after the consequences of an incorrect diet.

Drinking Almagel is allowed as an adjuvant in the treatment of diabetes (but on the recommendation of a doctor). The drug can be prescribed together with others or after taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticosteroids.

It can cause side effects, for example, short-term numbness of the tongue, nausea. Relative contraindications for use include:

  • liver diseases;
  • epilepsy;
  • children's age from 10 to 18 years;
  • when breastfeeding;
  • alcoholism;
  • brain diseases.

Almagel and alcohol are incompatible, the therapeutic effect disappears. Other contraindications include individual intolerance to the components, as well as Alzheimer's disease. It is forbidden to drink it simultaneously with sulfonamides and if the kidneys are not functioning properly.

More about poisoning

In practice, we most often encounter food poisoning. They occur due to the consumption of low-quality food products, products with an expired shelf life. Poisoning is known to occur when drugs are mixed with alcohol. Let's consider how food and alcohol poisoning differ in terms of the nature of the course of intoxication and methods of treatment.

Food

Food poisoning occurs when manufacturers violate the requirements for the heat treatment of raw materials, the temperature conditions for the production and storage of ready-made dishes. Another group of poisonings is associated with the consumption of inedible berries and mushrooms. Symptoms appear during the first hours and are expressed in the form of weakness, nausea, vomiting and severe pain in the stomach.

Particularly dangerous for food poisoning are improperly preserved vegetables and fruits and homemade preparations with mushrooms. This is due to the high rate of development of intoxication and possible respiratory arrest. Treatment for poisoning at the initial stage consists of gastric lavage and taking adsorbents - activated carbon, antacids.

Alcoholic

The cause of alcohol poisoning is considered to be low-quality or excessively drunk alcoholic beverages. After poisoning, intoxication is manifested by dizziness, disorientation and weakness. Increasing symptoms may cause fainting and loss of consciousness.

Since alcohol is quickly absorbed into the stomach, inducing vomiting does not provide a cleansing effect. One way to stop the penetration of alcohol poisoning is to take antacids, which prevent further entry of toxic substances into the body.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The components of the medication are not absorbed through the mucous walls and do not enter the bloodstream. Proper use of the medication does not lead to electrolyte imbalance, resorption in the digestive tract and does not provoke the development of alkalosis or metabolic disorders.

It was noted that even with long-term therapy, the medication does not provoke the formation of stones in the urinary system and does not irritate the urinary tract.

Almagel is an antacid. Antacids neutralize hydrochloric acid, which is contained in gastric juice, which makes them effective for the treatment of acid-related diseases. Another component of the drug, aluminum hydroxide, also neutralizes acid. In addition, the product contains magnesium hydroxide, which not only reduces stomach acidity, but also eliminates the ability of aluminum hydroxide to cause constipation. Benzocaine has an analgesic effect, so the drug effectively copes with pain.

Almagel reduces the secretion of pepsin and reduces the activity of gastric juice, converting aluminum chloride into alkaline aluminum salts. The drug acts without the formation of carbon dioxide bubbles, so it does not cause flatulence. In addition, sorbitol has a laxative effect and enhances the secretion of bile.

Aluminum salts are absorbed into the intestines in small quantities, and magnesium ions - by 10%, but their concentration in the blood remains virtually unchanged. The drug also contains benzocaine, which has almost no effect on the body because it is absorbed in minimal quantities. The effect of Almagel for stomach pain occurs within 5 minutes, and its duration depends on the rate of gastric emptying.

The active components are not able to be absorbed into the systemic circulation, because form a protective film. Compliance with the dosage regimen and following recommendations for the duration of therapy allows you to avoid effects on electrolyte balance, the development of alkalosis and other manifestations of metabolic disorders.

Long-term treatment does not lead to the formation of stones in the urinary system and does not irritate the mucous membranes of the urinary tract. The therapeutic effect can be observed after 5 minutes. The duration of action of the medication is up to 70 minutes (depending on food intake and individual characteristics).

How to take Almagel

Almagel for gastritis is taken before bedtime and half an hour before meals. The exact dosage and frequency of use is determined by the doctor; some patients may require a double dose. According to the instructions for the classic drug, you need to drink 1-2 scoops of the product no more than 4-5 times a day.

Almagel A is taken 10 minutes before meals, no more than 4 times a day. A single dose should not exceed 3 scoops. Medicines like “Neo” are recommended to be taken an hour after meals, 1-2 ml. In particularly severe cases, the dosage may be doubled. The number of doses may vary, but the total volume of Almagel Neo per day should not exceed 12 spoons.

If the doctor chooses the maximum possible amount of the drug that can be taken per day (this is approximately 16 scoops), the duration of treatment should not exceed 14 days. The treatment regimen with Almagel also depends on the age of the patient - children are prescribed much less of the drug - up to a third of the adult dosage.

Contraindications and restrictions

You should not use this drug if you experience pain of unknown origin, as well as with prolonged constipation, diseases of the cardiovascular system, or ulcerative colitis.

It is also recommended to delay taking the medication if there are symptoms of appendicitis, acute hemorrhoids and toxicosis in pregnant women.

If you have kidney failure, you can use almagel, but only under the close supervision of your doctor.

Do not use this drug if you have the following problems:

  • Individual immunity.
  • Alzheimer's disease,
  • Acute or severe renal failure,
  • Breastfeeding period.
  • Children up to one month old.

It is necessary to pay attention to how you feel when taking the gel. It is recommended to discontinue it if symptoms such as:

  1. Severe bloating.
  2. Sudden change of mood.
  3. A sharp decline in vitality.
  4. Swelling of the arms, legs, or face.
  5. Violation of metabolic processes.
  6. Abdominal pain in the form of cramps.
  7. Vomiting, nausea, or severe constipation.

It can be used even for a disease such as diabetes, but only if it is type 2. That is, the pancreas is partially working.

Why is it prohibited to combine alcohol and medication?

What changes in the body can occur if you drink alcohol and use the drug Almagel at the same time? Like any other medicine, Almagel is not recommended for use in combination with alcoholic drinks, as this can lead to a decrease in the effect of the medicine, as well as a deterioration in the well-being of the body.

If you drink a medication before taking a dose of alcohol, the components of the active sample will not be able to fully implement all the actions aimed at preventing the development of pathologies that manifest themselves in the digestive system. You should also not take the medicine before drinking alcohol, because the healing effect will begin to appear more slowly. For this reason, it is recommended to completely abstain from drinking alcohol during treatment.

If you drink large doses of medication and alcohol at the same time, the following symptoms may begin to appear:

  1. frequent gag reflexes;
  2. signs of nausea;
  3. severe pain in the head;
  4. the occurrence of frequent dizziness.

Active compounds contained in Almagel can negatively affect certain groups of medicinal products. For this reason, the drug should not be taken during the action of sulfonamides.

In addition, Almagel should not be consumed before taking:

  • tartaric acid;
  • acetic acid;
  • lemon juice.

These products, like alcohol, can reduce the manifestation of the drug effect of anesthesin. If the patient has received a combined type of treatment procedure, then it is necessary to use other medications after the end of the 2-hour pause that begins with the period of use of the drug Almagel. Each of these recommendations can contribute to the great effect obtained from the treatment procedure.

Can Almagel be taken by nursing mothers?

There are several drugs available for sale under the name Almagel. The main active substances in them are always aluminum and magnesium hydroxides.

There is a difference regarding auxiliary connections:

  • Almagel A is benzocaine, which is not recommended for use by children under one year of age. Accordingly, it is also better to avoid using it during lactation.
  • Almagel - it does not contain additional excipients. There are no studies confirming the negative effects of algedrate (aluminum hydroxide) on a child during breastfeeding. More precisely, its presence has never been recorded in milk.
  • Almagel NEO is simethicone, which is a means to reduce flatulence. This substance is not absorbed into the body and does not enter the blood. It is excreted unchanged through the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, the drug can be prescribed to nursing women.

Despite its apparent safety, Almagel is not. The reason for this is the presence of algedrate. The substance eliminates excess concentration of hydrochloric acid in gastric juice, without causing its hypersecretion after a certain period of time.

Laboratory studies have proven that long-term use of the medicine changes the composition of the patient’s blood. The amount of aluminum and phosphates increases in it. At the same time, serum calcium levels drop to an abnormally low level.

Negative changes affect the entire body as a whole. Adverse reactions such as renal failure, osteoporosis, deterioration of bone mineralization, and encephalopathy may develop.

Important: Almagel, regardless of its type, is initially prescribed by a doctor after a thorough examination. Uncontrolled use leads to serious systemic diseases.

It should be noted that the use of Almagel during breastfeeding, its dosage and frequency of use, differs somewhat from that given in the instructions. This is explained by the fact that in this case the drug is conditionally safe.

The attending physician explains the specifics of using the medicine to the patient. Moreover, it is necessary to contact him with a question about the possibility of taking Almagal during lactation every time if the period of the prescribed course has ended.

Find out if you can take Omeprazole instead of Almagel while breastfeeding.

With frequent use of this drug, it is possible to get rid of pathological manifestations in the stomach, as well as heartburn. The drug Almagel is also characterized by highly effective analgesic properties. In this regard, the medication should be taken during the period of pathologies manifested in the digestive organs.

This is necessary so that the active type compounds contained in the drug itself are able to easily overcome pathological barriers. You should take the drug Almagel a few minutes before meals. If everything is done according to the instructions prescribed by the attending physician, then it will be possible to achieve the maximum effect in the treatment of pathological manifestations with the help of the drug Almagel.

It is forbidden to independently change the dose of the medicine used, so as not to provoke even greater deterioration. The medication is taken only after prescription by the attending physician. The treatment course can last from 3 to 4 days. After using the medicine, side effects may begin to appear. They manifest themselves in the form of stomach pain, vomiting and nausea. If side effects occur, you must immediately stop using the medication so as not to worsen the situation. After this, you must immediately visit your doctor.

Almagel A

The drug "Almagel A" is similar to "Almagel", but there are still some differences.

Compound

The drug also contains magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide, but another component is anesthesin.

pharmachologic effect

This drug is also an antacid, but at the same time it has a local anesthetic effect due to the anesthesin included in the composition.

Indications and contraindications

"Almagel A" is used for the same diseases of the stomach and other digestive organs as "Almagel", but in cases where they are accompanied by severe pain, vomiting and nausea.

Contraindications will be the same.

Directions for use and dosage

Adults should take the product 10 or 15 minutes before meals three or four times a day. It is also necessary to take it before bedtime. A single dose can range from one to three measuring spoons, depending on the severity of pain and the severity of the disease. Children under ten years of age should take one-third of the adult dose, and adolescents under ten and over fifteen years of age should take half the dose.

The duration of the course of treatment can be two to three weeks (it must certainly be agreed with the attending physician). But most often, when eliminating pain, it is recommended to start taking Almagel.

Side effects and interactions will be the same. You can see the description of the drug "Almagel".

What can be caused by the wrong combination of elements?

A combination of components of two substances with different properties and composition can cause heartburn or ulcers. When combining elements of a drug and an alcoholic drink, intoxication in the bone marrow area can occur.

When the components of Almagel and alcohol interact, the process of absorption of ethyl alcohol elements into the blood occurs. Because of this, a relaxing effect is produced on smooth muscles. Also, an alcohol-containing product can lead to intoxication of the nervous system and also damage the liver.

Trichopolum, Diprazine, Ketotifen can also be used as drugs that are not compatible with alcohol. The compatibility of drugs and alcohol causes a hangover. In especially severe cases, the combination of different components can provoke the spread of a large number of toxins in the body. Intoxication in a particularly strong form can cause great harm to internal organs.

Alcohol and medications should not be taken at the same time

If alcohol is mixed with Amitriptyline, loss of consciousness may occur. However, the situation could turn out to be more dire. If the components interact very actively, damage to the central nervous system may occur. Combining the components of two substances can provoke a decrease in blood pressure. If the reduction process reaches its minimum point, death may occur.

If you mix alcohol with Diprazine, then instant intoxication will occur if you consume even the smallest dose. The combination leads to the spread of inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract, which ultimately becomes the cause of exacerbation and the occurrence of an ulcerative membrane. In other cases, exacerbations occur exactly according to the same pattern as is observed when combining alcohol and Almagel.

If you drink the drug Almagel before drinking alcoholic beverages, then its components will not have time to carry out all the required actions to neutralize diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Taking the medicine after drinking alcohol does not give any therapeutic effect at all. It is imperative to separate the introduction into the body of these two substances, which have different compositions and properties.

Almagel Neo

“Almagel Neo” is another variation of a time-tested product. This remedy is also used for gastritis of the stomach and other diseases of the digestive tract.

Compound

"Almagel Neo" is prescribed for diseases of the stomach and other digestive organs, accompanied by increased gas formation and bloating.

Contraindications

Contraindications include:

  • pregnancy,
  • lactation period,
  • kidney dysfunction,

  • children up to ten years of age.

Directions for use and dosage

For adults, the drug is prescribed one or two measuring spoons an hour after meals. If there is no effect, the single dose can be increased to three or four spoons, but the total daily volume should not exceed 12 spoons. Children (over ten years of age) are prescribed half the adult dose. Usually the course of treatment is 3 or 4 weeks.

Side effects and interactions are the same as in the description of Almagel.

The use of any remedy for gastritis of the stomach should be started only after examination and consultation with a doctor.

Interaction with other drugs

The medicine contains benzocaine, so its simultaneous use with sulfonamides is contraindicated. The use of enteric tablets and Almagel causes irritation of the gastric mucosa. The drug reduces the absorption of certain medications, so the interval between taking them should be 1 to 2 hours. Such means include:

  • reserpine;
  • histamine H2 receptor blockers;
  • cardiac glycosides;
  • iron salts;
  • lithium preparations;
  • quinidine;
  • mexiletine;
  • phenothiazine drugs;
  • tetracycline antibiotics;
  • ciprofloxacin;
  • isoniazid;
  • ketoconazole

Concomitant use of Almagel A may reduce the therapeutic effect of digitalis glycosides, tetracycline antibiotics, iron salts, histamine H2 receptor blockers, ciprofloxacin, isoniazid, phenothiazines, beta-blockers, ketoconazole, indomethacin and other drugs.

  2. digitalis glycosides;
  3. Tetracycline and all tetracycline antibiotics;
  4. iron salts;
  5. antihistamines;
  6. beta blockers;
  7. Phenothiazines;
  8. Ciprofloxacin;
  9. Ketoconazole.

What kind of Almagel is there?

Medicines have been created to alleviate the patient’s condition with gastritis, stomach ulcers, and heartburn associated with increased acidity. What these medications have in common is their antacid ability to quickly relieve pain and eliminate stomach discomfort. The components of the drug act on internal tissues, lowering acidity and reducing pain. Almagel is recognized as one of the most common representatives of this group.

The name unites the line of drugs produced under this brand. For better recognition, the names of the medicines include a special symbol, and the packaging is made in different colors to guide buyers. Pharmaceutical companies offer 4 types of Almagel, with different forms and properties of the drug:

  1. Almagel. Available in green packaging, it is considered the basic form of the drug, in the form of a suspension, the main active ingredient is algeldrate, magnesium hydroxide. The medicine quickly relieves heartburn and reflux; use in combination with anti-inflammatory drugs is indicated.
  1. Almagel A. The dosage form of the drug is suspension. The composition is similar to the base one with an additional substance in the form of benzocaine. Packaging color is yellow. The medicine reduces acidity, and benzocaine anesthetizes, quickly relieving discomfort in the stomach.
  2. Almagel T. The only drug in the series produced in tablet form with the active ingredient magaldrate. The medicine reduces the feeling of heaviness in the abdomen, produces an analgesic effect, reducing the symptoms of gastritis and stomach ulcers. The drug has the greatest effect when taken before bed or after meals.
  3. Almagel Neo. The main components are algeldrate, magnesium hydrooxide and simethicone. Available in separate red sachets, designed for one-time use of the medicine. This is a new product among antacids; it contains simethicone, which provides a long-lasting effect of the drug in reducing acidity, without “withdrawal syndrome”. Due to the ability to prevent the formation of gas bubbles, Almagel Neo helps with flatulence and bloating.

The main purpose of all drugs in the Almagel group is to eliminate unpleasant symptoms caused by disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract. But there is an additional property that is focused on providing assistance with alcohol poisoning, excessive consumption of coffee and medications.

Specially selected additional components give the drug absorbent properties. But you should not take antacids without consulting a doctor to avoid unwanted consequences. Any intoxication requires a professional approach to treatment!

Almagel for gastritis with high acidity

The drug "Almagel" effectively eliminates the symptoms of gastritis and other diseases of the digestive system. This medication is suitable for use when the level of acid in the gastric juice increases. There are several types of medications, and before taking any of them, you need to learn about the specific effects of medications on the body.

The medication belongs to the group of drugs classified as antacids. According to the instructions, “Almagel” protects the surface of the mucous walls of the abdominal cavity from various damages that can be caused by the activity of gastric secretion. The medicine is released in the form of a gel. The combination of ingredients allows the medication to evenly cover the mucous membrane. Due to this, it has a longer and more effective effect.

Aluminum hydroxide slows down the production of pepsin #8212; one of the enzymes of gastric secretion, which is responsible for the process of digesting food particles. In addition, when combined with an acid, the substance enters into an active reaction with it. Thanks to this interaction, the activity of hydrochloric acid is neutralized. Magnesium hydroxide also helps reduce the effect of acid on the stomach lining. "Almagel" works for a long time. The therapeutic effect begins to be felt a few minutes after taking one dose of the medication. The duration of exposure is just over an hour.

The medication does not contribute to a secondary increase in acidity and does not provoke the appearance of flatulence, since regulation occurs in a balanced manner and without the formation of gases. Treatment with Almagel does not cause a sharp drop in the pH level in the abdominal cavity, nor does it provoke an increase in the alkaline environment and pH in the blood. In addition, the drug formula will protect the patient from the formation of stones in the urinary system. Among the components of Almagel A is benzocaine, which provides an anesthetic effect at the local level for pain in the abdominal area.

The drug "Almagel" has found successful use as part of complex treatment for gastritis. It is produced in the form of a medicinal gel. The instructions note that when taken after a meal, the effect lasts for several hours. It should be noted that the ingredients that make up the drug are almost not absorbed from the digestive system into the blood. Thus, the drug is not capable of having a noticeable effect on other systems and organs.

"Almagel" is considered one of the most affordable, effective, safe and at the same time highly effective medications prescribed for the treatment of gastritis symptoms. The product helps relieve the unpleasant manifestations of gastritis in a short time, but for a complex effect on the gastrointestinal tract, several medications should be selected. To do this, you should consult a doctor.

There are 3 types of medicines on the pharmaceutical market:

  1. "Almagel". The therapeutic effect of its use is to neutralize increased acidity through a chemical reaction that neutralizes the acid and protects the surface of the mucous membrane from damage by gastric secretions. It helps treat gastritis and its symptoms.
  2. "Almagel A". The medication is similar in components to the traditional “Almagel”, however, there are additional components that provide an additional therapeutic effect of the drug. Among the components of the drug, in addition to aluminum and magnesium hydroxide, there is anesthesin. This ingredient also belongs to antacids. The peculiarity of its action is that it anesthetizes at the local level. "Almagel A" is used to treat the same category of gastrointestinal diseases as regular "Almagel". The difference is that Almagel A is necessary for those patients who experience severe pain and complain of vomiting and nausea. Typically, the duration of the course is 2-3 weeks, however, the specifics of use for gastritis, which is accompanied by high acidity, should be discussed with a specialist. After eliminating the pain, you can start taking Almagel.
  3. "Almagel Neo". Another type of effective remedy, the effectiveness of which has been proven by many years of medical practice. This medicine is prescribed for the development of gastritis and other diseases of the digestive system. Among the ingredients are the same components that are added to the traditional medicine, as well as simethicone. "Almagel Neo" is used as an antacid. Simethicone, listed among the ingredients, prevents the formation of gas bubbles and eliminates them. Doctors prescribe Almagel Neo for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, which are accompanied by severe gas formation and bloating.

"Almagel" is used against gastritis, which is accompanied by an increase in the level of acid in the secretion of the stomach. This medication should be taken during exacerbation and chronic inflammation in the abdominal cavity. It is a prophylactic agent, especially in the treatment of concomitant ailments with non-steroidal drugs and glucocorticosteroids.

Before taking the medication, the bottle of gel should be shaken. Doses prescribed for adults are 1-2 small spoons of the drug. It should be taken orally 30 minutes before meals. If necessary, another 1 dose can be taken at night. The maximum dosage for the treatment of gastritis should be 16 small spoons.

If the maximum daily dosage is prescribed, the duration of the course should not be extended beyond two weeks. The medicine can be prescribed to children under ten years of age. The dosage is calculated as the 3rd part of the adult dose. Children aged 10-15 years should be given half the adult dose.

"Almagel A". Adults need to drink the medicine before meals (10 minutes before) 3-4 times a day. If necessary, you can take the drug at night. A single dosage is 1-3 scoops, and depends on the severity of the pain and the severity of the disease. Children under 10 years old need to take 3rd part of the adult dose; adolescents 10-15 years old are recommended to take half the adult dose.

"Almagel Neo". Adult patients should take the medicine 1-2 measuring spoons an hour after meals. If taking the medication does not give the desired effect, the dosage is increased to 3-4 spoons. At the same time, the volume of medication taken should be no more than 12 spoons per day. Children over 10 years of age are prescribed half the adult dose. As a rule, the therapeutic course lasts about a month.

Contraindications include:

  • age up to a month;
  • intolerance to the ingredients of the medication;
  • Alzheimer's disease;
  • lactation;
  • severe renal dysfunction.

The drug "Omeprazole" effectively reduces the level of acid in the secretion of the stomach by suspending the activity of certain enzymes that stimulate its secretion.

The simultaneous use of Almagel with Omeprazole allows you to achieve a greater effect - general, local.

Miracle pill in the treatment of gastritis. one that can cure gastritis of the stomach in the shortest possible time . When choosing a drug for the treatment of gastritis, the doctor takes a comprehensive approach, taking into account both the degree of damage to the walls of the stomach and the level of increased and decreased acidity of the stomach, and recently also the presence of such a bacterium living in the stomach, a seemingly unconducive environment such as hydrochloric acid of the stomach - this bacterium Helicobacter pylori.

Low acidity is characterized by insufficient production of hydrochloric acid, pepsin and trypsin by the stomach, which are used for normal digestion of food. Such patients are prescribed drugs that increase the acidity of gastric juice, containing artificial or natural gastric juice. These medications should be taken strictly after meals.

stomach ulcers is very high . The risk increases significantly if the patient does not eat regularly, eats a lot of spicy and fatty foods, abuses alcohol and smokes. To reduce the harmful effects of acid, a patient with gastritis with high stomach acidity is prescribed antacids and hydrochloric acid blockers. These are medications such as:
